From: Gene Martin Date: Saturday, March 03, 2007 6:36 PM Chamdain/Shadowens in mid 1800’s My Great X 3 Grandparents are shown in 1860 Lincoln County census as Samuel and Priscilla Chamdain, ages 66 and 61. I have been unable to find any trace of them after the 1860 census. Each recording of the name seems to bring a different version of this French Huguenot name “Chaudoin”. In the 1850 census they were in Whitley County shown as “Samuel Shadowns”. Listed nearby in the 1860 Lincoln census are children: John Chamdain, age 33; William Chamdain, age 21 in house hold of George W Turnbull, whose wife, Anna, age 24 is William’s sister. Also listed in this 1860 Lincoln census is Bennett Powers, whose wife Emaliza, age 30 is also a daughter of Samuel and Priscilla. Any information for Samuel and Priscilla will be greatly appreciated.
