From: "Sandy and Morry Hansen" Date: Tuesday, September 16, 2003 12:04 AM My family line is: D. R. (possibly William R., b abt 1841)DISHON. I was always told Susie Jane's father was Willie Fortner Dishon. wife Elizabeth (b abt 1842) and their three children: Susan Jane (b 13 Sep 1863 and d 3 Nov 1914 in Mercer County, MO; burial place is Girdner Cemetery; Mercer County, MO), W. F. (Willie Fortner, b abt 1866), and Mary E. (b abt 1868). The 1880 census has been interpreted by ancestry.com as D. R. Dishon. Now, lets see what the official documents say. I HAVE FOUND THE FAMILY in the 1880 Stanford, Lincoln County, KY census, family household #35. Census indicates D. R.'s father was born in North Carolina and mother in Kentucky; Elizabeth's parents both born in Virginia. D. R. was a farmer. Susan Jane is my g grandmother. She married Union Lemons (or Lamon) on 2 or 7 Feb 1884 in Laurel County, Kentucky. To this union were born 4 children (Leslie David, Jerry Maire, Leroy and Claud Pearl) before the family boarded a train on 16 Jan 1891 at East Bernstadt, Ky for Mercer County, MO (note: this info appeared in the Jan 16 GENERAL NEWS newspaper). Six additional children were born to Susan and Union while living in Mercer County, MO; they are: Ruth, Mary, Tavia Allie, Willie Fortner, Fred and Maxine. SEEKING INFO... 1. birth, death and marriage dates for D. R. (or William), Elizabeth, Susan Jane (have dates but not place), Willie Fortner and Mary E. 2. Spouses for Willie Fortner (believe he may have had 2 wives; 1920 census indicates Ellen age 30) and Mary E. 3. D. R. (or William) parents names? 4. Elizabeth's parents names (surname unknown). 5. Are any obituaries available for D. R. and his family? 6. Does Willie Fortner Dishon have any survivors currently living; and if so, where? Any assistance you may provide is deeply appreciated. Sandy Hansen Iowa UPDATE INFO... After searching the 1870 census on ancestry.com, I have learned: 1) D. R. Dishon stands for David R. Dishon The 1870 census taken July 14, 1870 in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, KY indicates that David is age 26 a farm laborer and born in Kentucky; wife Elizabeth age 25, keeping house, born in Kentucky; 2 children: Susan age 6 and born in Kentucky and Wiley F. age 3 and born in Kentucky. Evidently, third child Mary E. (mentioned in 1880 census at age 12) probably has not been born yet or was absent when census was taken. Thank you for your assistance. I am determined to learn more about my g and gg grandparents.
