From: "Leland Garton" Date: Wednesday, October 20, 2004 5:00 PM Hello My Jesse Graham family settled in Crab Orchard after the Rev. War. Jesse had married Jane Cock in Scotland and moved to Va. Jane was a Boone descendant and related to Daniel Boone. Her son, Isaac was at Daniel's death bed. My ancestor was Dr. John M. Graham, perhaps married 1st to Eleanor Middleton in Lincoln Co. 6 May 1806. His first wife died leaving him with a son, Napoleon D. Graham. He moved to Tn where he married Elizabeth "Becky" Brantley. 21 May 1826. John M. Graham was born 17 Mary 1787 in Botetourt Co., Va. Another son proven of Jesse was Isaac Graham. Family says other ch. were Moses, Andrew, perhaps David, Enoch. A son or close relative was "our own George Washington Graham". Jesse Graham is said to have died in Crab Orchard in 1803. Haven't found any records for him. Dr. John M. Graham is said to have attended Med. school one year and then read with a doctor, taking his tests by mail. Said to have served as a Dr. in War of 1812. His brothers are said to have served in same war in Battle of New Orleans under Gen. Jackson. Ten to Twelve brothers. Dr. John M. Graham was an adventurer a "long hunter" in his youth (or perhaps his father--said to have hunted with Boone.). John M. was captured 6 times by 3 different Indian tribes and made to run the gauntlet each time. The last time he ran the gauntlet the Indians were determined that he would not make it. They placed the heaviest squaw they had at the end of the line. He knew he had to hit her hard to escape and he did. She was injured and the tribe was very angry. But they let him go with a head start. Family members took the lead in tracking him. He ran for days as they were determined to kill him. Finally, in desperation, he swam to an island in a river and hid under water. He wrapped his arms and legs around tree limbs and breathed through a reed. The Indians burned off the island to find him. After this,he decided it was a wise move to leave Ky. He moved to Tn. where he married a 2nd time. Hope this helps and that you have some info. on the Jesse Graham family. Leland Garton Moviegar47@juno.com 1229 F. Street Reedley, CA. 93654 559 859-4812
