From: "D Oz" Date: Sunday, June 08, 2008 10:51 PM Hello, I have quite a brick wall and pray you can help. In the Family Search website. Someone has posted my ancestor - Margaret Hays as being from Lincoln County, KY. I have no evidence that Margaret was from Lincoln Co. But someone seems to know it's true. But clearly she consistently states that KY is her state of birth. This is what I know: Oct. 31 1844 Lafayette Co MO Isaac Hayes married Margaret Hays. (I called the court Clerk there - She said Margaret's last name is down as "Hays" a slightly different spelling than her new groom) 1850 Saline Co Mo. Census Isaac Hays b. 1823 KY. (Pulaski) Margaret Hays b. 1828 KY. Samuel (son) b. 1846 MO. Zachary G. (son) b.1849 MO. Isaac A. Hays b. 1832 KY Student (this is some relation, but not their children obviously) John P. Hays b. 1833 KY Student 1860 Andre Co MO. Isaac Hays b. 1823 KY Margaret " b. 1826 KY Samuel 1846 MO Zacharah 1847 MO Craig 1850 MO Wesley 1852 MO Charles 1854 MO Jerusha 1856 MO James 1859 MO This family left MO bound for Oregon in 1863/64. There was one more child (Nancy Hayes) born in OR. In 1867 and by the 1870 it looks as though Margaret has passed on. No record of her death. Isaac remarried in 1869. I have searched all I can search and I have no idea who Margaret's parents were. One person told me she was a Cowan - can't find any evidence of that. My clues are some of the names that Margaret named her children - that were not names from Isaac's side of the family. John Wesley Charles Murray Craig Zachary As I can not find these names in the Samuel Hayes - Jerusha Logan side which is on Isaac's side. Last Clue. My grandmother insists that this Margaret was of Spanish decent. In fact, Margaret's grand daughter was called Margaretta or Margretta - after her grandmother. I don't know where this Castilian, Spanish blood was supposed to come from in the land of the Scotch - Irish? Is it possible, or known that there were people from Spain in Lincoln County KY in the early 1800's? Before 1826/28?? Sorry such a long letter. Please help. Renee
