From: "Emily Morris" Subject: Lincoln Co Ky Brick Wall Date: Monday, July 04, 2011 5:44 PM I am searching for information concerning my gggrandfather, John Morris, who died in Lincoln County about 1841. His Inventory of Estate was filed in February, 1842, and his Estate Settlement was not finalized until 1847. I have a listing of his heirs. I had a private researcher find his will at the Lincoln County Courthouse listing his heirs. He married Nancy Pennel in 1808 in Casey County. She was the daughter of Pierce Butler Pennel/Pennell a RWS who obtained a land grant in Casey County. John and Nancy lived in Hustonville, and when he died he left five minor children. Lorenzo Dow Goode, who was the father-in-law of Thomas Morris, John's son, was appointed guardian of the minor children. Thomas Morris, was the highest bidder and obtained the house and lot where he lived and raised his family until finally moving to Missourii by 1880. Some of his siblings had already moved to Illinois and Missouri. In 1844 Lorenzo Dow Goode was made the guardian of the five minor children and remained so even after the girls had married. John's heirs are Eliza Ann, born 28 Aug 1809 married Moses Yowell in Lincoln County in 1837 and moved to Macoupin County Illinois and died there in 1882. John Morris, unsure birthdate, married Francis Elizabeth Johnson, 23 Aug. 1843 in Lincoln County. They also moved to Illinois about 1850. Thomas Morris, born 1812 in Lincoln County, married Nancy Jane Goode, 3 May 1844. This is my ggrandfather. Mary Jane, born about 1824 married Charles W. Terry in Barren County. They located to Barren County in 1880. Sarah Ann, born 9 Nov 1825 married Henry White Bradford about 1844 in Lincoln County. In 1860 they are living in Bradfordsville, Marion County. She died in Jan, 1905 in Bradfordsville. In the 1900 census she states her father was born in Virginia. Lucinda, born 25 Dec. 1827, married Adam James Bradford about 1844. He is the brother of William White Bradford. In 1850 they are living in Marion county. In 1880 she is a widow and later marries Robert C. Daniels. Rice Morris, born 12 April, 1836 married Catherine Nelson 30 July 1868 in Linn County, Missouri. He died March, 1916 and is buried in Linneus City Cemetery in Linn County. Ellen M Morris, unsure birthdate, I have no information on her, but she is listed as one of the five minor children. William Morris, born 1833 is listed on the 1880 census in Linn County llving with his brother, Rice. Elizabeth, unsure birthdate, married Alexander Helm 4 May, 1839 in Lincoln county. Frances Morris, born 17 April, 1821, married William Pennington on 5 June, 1838 in Lincoln County. She moved to Kansas and died 26 Aug 1891 in Douglas County., At the time of John's death, Sarah Ann, Lucinda, Ellen M., William and Rice are listed as minors. In 1844, Lorenzo Dow Goode appointed their guardian. I have no information about Nancy, John's wife, at the time of his death. Her father was Pierce Butler Pennell and her mother was named Elizabeth. Also, other records found in Casey County show John Morris on 29 May, 1809 as a witness on Casey County Deed, where James Spraggins sells to Pryce Pennell 100 acres on Rollling Fork of Salt Creek for 70 pounds. On 27 June 1823 Pryce Pennell appointed John Morris as one of the executors of his will, and on 26 Sept 1825 John Morris and James Swiggett, two executors at the probate of his will. On 2 July, 1827 Indenture was made between James Swiggert and John Morris of Casey and Lincoln County & State of Kentucky, administrators of the estate of Pierce Pennell deceased. John Morris is listed in the 1830 and 1840 census for Lincoln County. I also have a John Morris born about 1804 who married Margaret Allen in 1824 in Casey County. John is listed as born in Tennessee. This could not be the son of Nancy Pennel since she did not marry John Morris until 1808. In the 1850 census of Casey County John is 46 (1804) TN and Margaret 45 born in KY. Their children are William M, 24; Benjamin, 17; Sally, 17; John W., 15; Elizabeth, 13; Florundy, 10; Savisa, 7. This may be the son of my gggrandfather by a different mother, since John was born about 1780, so that would make him 28 when he married Nancy Pennel. Then Allen name is a name that has been carried on as middle names in my family, as well as Anderson, Bell, Lee, Potter, Thompson and others. While I do know that John died in Lincoln County, I don't know where he is buried. Also, I don't know what happened to Nancy Pennel. I also do not know who the parentage of John is, all I know is that he was born in Virginia. It is possible that he has a brother by the name of James. I have no documentation about John;s birth, but someone else in my family tree says that he was born in 1780 in Virginia, and Sarah Ann does state her father was born in Virginia. The researcher that found his will does not know this too. She did find quite a bit about the Lorenzo Dow and Mildred Stigall, who were the parents of Nancy Jane Goode, my ggrandmother who married Thomas. I am at a brick wall until I can find more about John Morris who came from Virginia. It is possible through DNA testing that my brother had done that his family originated from Pennslylvania. If anyone can help me with this family, or give me more info on the siblings, I would most sincerely appreciate the assistance. The name of Rice is also part of the family tree. I would be very interested in finding more about this family. Several members of the Morris family named thier children Rice, such as Sarah Ann, who named one of her sons Rice Bradford. There have been others also. Thank you for your assistance. Blessings, Emily Morris e_morris51@yahoo.com
