From: Subject: Lincoln Co Ky Brick Wall Date: Thursday, March 18, 2010 11:33 AM HI, My great, great great grandfather was Charles/Charley Wilcher, who was married to Elizabeth/Betsy Fitzpatrick . his son. George, was the father of William, who was the father of Joda, who was the father of Dwain, who was my father. Until the 1940s when my father moved, all lived in Casey or Marion County KY (or Lincoln, from which Casey was created) since the early 1800s at least. I am trying to find Charley's parents. Some speculate that his father was John, who married Jane Combs in 1809, but I have found nothing definitive linking them. I would like some help in finding Charley's father and then possibly finding which Wilchers were his ancestors (GA, VA, NC) Here is what I have found: Charles Wilcher (Charley) shows up in Casey County census in 1850, Marion County in 1860, Marion County (Witcher) in 1870 and Casey County in 1880. Based on the Census records he was b around 1816-1820 Married Elizabeth Fitzpatrick (Betsey) b. around 1824-1825 Married 1837? based upon ages of children in census, but the oldest, James, may have been a relative taken in. I found a death certificate for a James which lists Jeremiah as his father, and the KY Jeremiah disappears somewhere along 1840, so maybe we can't rely on the oldest child (James) as an indicator of marriage for Charles and Betsy. Going back, there is a Charles in the early lincoln county tax records (around 1804-1810) along with a John and Joseph. The 1810 census tracks that, listing John Wilsher and Joseph Wilsher (listed in the index on Ancestry as "Welsh" or Wilsher). Joseph Welcher m. Susanna Hunter 6 May 1806 Kentucky Lincoln County There is a Charles Welcher in Burke County NC in 1810. Various other Wilcher Wilsher Wilshire Wiltshire Welcher Welsher Witcher Wiltshire names appear, including a Thomas in Ohio County in the early 1800s. there is a Charles Wilcher in 1830 Lincoln County census, listed as 70-80 years old. Perhaps he is the father I am looking for. I have various other info that might be useful, and if you let me know whether you are able to help me I will send to you. Thanks, LaJuana Wilcher
