Unidentified Stone |
The common stone for the children of William and Mary Daugerty is broken to pieces. Foot stones are intact with the initials of the two children. The most readable stone in the cemetery is of Abraham Dawes. I know from several accounts that Dawes' uncle Major James H. Bridgewater is buried in the cemetery. I have spent countless hours trying to find Major Bridgewater's grave but despite all my efforts, his grave cannot be located. It is presumed that the Wm Daugerty whose children are buried near Abraham Dawes is the same man who served in the Halls Gap Btn under Bridgewater. Howell Lane separates the white and the African-American sections of the cemetery. The stone for Mrs. W.H. Ousley is on the African-American side. The stone of Phillip Shanks an African-American Civil War soldier has apparently been stolen from the cemetery. I saw it in the cemetery a few years ago but it is now gone.
