50th Anniversary

AUSTINS – 50 Years
Glen and Betty Austin celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 8 at the New Salem Baptist Church fellowship hall with a dinner hosted by their families.

  Attending the celebration were Rep. Danny and Sue Ford, Matt and Angie Ford, Ben Allen: Bro.   The Austins were married Dec. 5, 1946. They reside in Somerset.

Rep. Danny Ford presented the couple a congratulatory plaque from the State of Kentucky House of Representatives.

Collier -  50 Years

 Mr. and Mrs. Mallon Collier celebrated 50th Wedding Anniversary Sunday at their home in Stanford. The Colliers were married in Stanford in 1926, by Bro. Will Severance.

 They have two sons, Fred of Lexington and Marion of Tyler, Texas. They have seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

DAVIDSON – 50 Years

  The children of Mr. and Mrs. Junior Davidson request the honor of your presence at the 50th wedding anniversary of their parents.

  Mr. and Mrs. Junior Davidson were married in Harrodsburg on Sept. 12, 1942. They have six children, Terry, Jerry, Monte and Jeff, Diane Playforth and Brenda Rice. They have 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

The couple will renew their wedding vows on Saturday, Sept. 12, 1992 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, in Waynesburg, KY. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. The couple requests no gifts.

DYE – 50 Years

George and Florence (Siler) Dye of Marion Ohio are celebrating their 50th anniversary. 

An open house in their honor will be held Sunday, Dec 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Victoriana Bed and Breakfast in Marion.

 The late Brother Servance married them December 12, 1945 in Stanford, KY. Mr. Dye was self-employed at George Dye’s Truck and Trailer Service. He also was a broker for the Wenham Transportation Company for thirty years and served three years in Would War II during the Battle of the Bulge. Mrs. Dye is a homemaker. Both are members of the Church of Christ.

 They have one daughter, Betty Evans; three sons, David, Ples and Dale Dye; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

 

FRENCH- 50 Years

Anniversary celebrated.

 A dinner party for 100 guests honored Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Estel French of Wyandotte, Michigan on their golden anniversary.

 They were married in Stanford, KY., on April 4, 1928 and have been Wyandotte residents for 25 years.

 The French’s eight children and their spouses hosted the party.

 Prior to the dinner, E.L.Freeland, minister of the Gateway Church of Christ, said grace.

 A large empty vase was placed in front of the couple at the head table, and the roomed was hushed as 34 people passed in front of the couple, each placing a flower in the vase.

Then red flowers were presented to the couple by each of their children and their spouses. Next blue and pink flowers were given to them by their 16 grandchildren and yellow flowers were presented by the couple's five great grandchildren. Two white flowers were presented to the couple for their two deceased children.

 Also attending were the French’s' brothers and sisters; Mrs. Elda Wade, Leslie French, Mr.and Mrs. Leonard French, Mrs. Ruby O'Dear, Mrs. Alice French, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Owens, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde James and a nephew Brian James. Many of their friends from the Gateway Church of Christ and friends and neighbors also attended.

 Letters from the President, Governor of Michigan and the Mayor of the City of Wyandotte were given to Mr. and Mrs. French congratulating them on their 50th Anniversary.

 

FRENCH  - 65 Years

  Wyandotte, Michigan residents, William Estel French and Eva French marked their 65th wedding anniversary April 4 at a family dinner at the home of their daughter Carole DiSanto of Michigan.

 Mr. French and his wife, the former Eva James, both natives of Stanford, Ky., were married in Lincoln County, KY.,  on April 4, 1928.

 The couple owned and operated a clothing store in Stanford before moving to Michigan in 1952. Mr. French retired from the Pennwalt Corp. 20 years later.

 The couple had ten children of which eight are still living. The honorees have 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great- great- granddaughter. Today the couple enjoys gardening, fishing and traveling.

 

JAMES – 50 Years

 Clyde and Violet (Butt) James of Somerset celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary August 1, 1993 at the home of Raymond and Joann Davis in Highland. Mr. and Mrs. James were married July 31, 1943.

JAMES – 50 Years

Robert and Emma (Shaw) James of Dayton, OH., formerly of Lincoln county will celebrate their 50th  wedding anniversary on February 3 with their daughter and husband in Columbus, OH. They have one granddaughter and one grandson.

KIDD– 60 Years

 Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Kidd, who reside on Youngs Court in Stanford, will hold Open House Sunday honoring their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Friends and relatives are invited to call between 2 and 5 p.m.

 

LAWRENCE – 50 Years

  Mr and Mrs J.B. Lawrence of Stanford will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary Sunday, March 21 with an Open House from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in their home on East Main Street, Stanford.

  Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence were married March 24th, 1921. They are the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Charles Bryant, Stanford; Mrs.Walter F. Childress, Lexington, and Mrs.Joe Robbins, Danville. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.  The family requests no gifts, please.

 

MANUEL – 38 Years

  Mr. and Mrs. Eph Manuel of Rowland celebrated their 38th Wedding Anniversary, Sunday, Oct 8 at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Bettie Miracle, of Hustonville.

MARTIN- 59 Years

 Frank and Delphia Martin of Ottenheim don’t think they are “anything special.” But celebrating 59 years of marriage and having raised 12 children, the Martins certainly are.

 “We met in Richmond, “ Mrs. Martin, 74, said. “I knew right then.” Mr. Martin, 78 agreed. “When I found her, I quit looking,” he said.

 Mrs. Martin stayed home with the children while Mr. Martin worked at a variety of jobs.

 “I’ve done it all”, he said. “I’ve worked railroad, W.T.M., help build roads, sawmill and farmed some. We got by.”

 Mrs. Martin said she never wanted to do anything else. “I just liked raising kids.”  Until a few years ago, Mrs. Martin raised a garden, sewed clothes, and made her own soap. She still keeps a few chickens and he still keeps “a mule or two around.”

 The Martins moved to Ottenheim 30 years ago. Mr. Martin built their house himself.

 “We suffered some bad health after that and had to start taking things easy, “ he said. “ We got nothing to complain about. A person sees one of my boys, he knows he’s a Republican. We never had any trouble out of any of our kids.

 The Martins have 5 boys, 7 girls, 30 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Asked the secret to 59 years, Mr. Martin replied, We ain’t got no secrets. If we do, we don’t know it.

PENCE- 50 Years

  Sammie and Ruth Pence of Stanford celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, March 14 with family and close friends.

  William Severance married them March 14, 1947 in Stanford.

  They have three children, Judy Wilcher of Junction; Anita Long of Danville and Sandra Benge of Brodhead and three grandsons, Bobby, Marshall and Eric.

 

 

PETREY – 50 Years

  Theodore B. Petrey and Mary Schaller Petrey of Crab Orchard will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct 4 at the Ottenheim Community Center located behind St. Sylvester Catholic Church.

 The Petreys were married May 5, 1942 in Michigan.

 They have two sons and one daughter, Blaine Petrey of Charlotte, N.C., Pamela Lunceford of Brodhead and Charles Petrey of Crab Orchard. They also have eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 All friends and family are invited to attend. The couple requests no gifts.

POLLARD – 60 Years

  Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Pollard observed their 60th wedding Anniversary August 18th at their home. They were married August 16, 1917 at her parent’s home on Gilmore Creek.

 He is the son of the late S.J. (Jack) Pollard and the late Sallie Adams Pollard. Mrs. Pollard is the daughter of the late N.C. Siler and the late Laura Oaks Siler. They have two children, Miss Florence Pollard and Hubert Pollard and three grandchildren, Misses June and Jean Pollard and Johnny Ruben Pollard.

 

REED- 50 Years

 Mr. and Mrs. Daley Reed were honored on Sunday, Dec. 28th, 1980 in celebration of their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

 Their daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Joann) Davis of Highland and their two sons, Shelby N. Reed and William Paul Reed both of Stanford, entertained with an open house at their parents home.

  Mrs. Reed is the former Marie Butt, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. N.W. Butt.

  Mr. Reed is the son of Mrs. Cynthia Reed of Stanford and the late Mr. W.S. Reed.

 The couple was married on Dec. 24, 1930, at the home of her parents in Highland by the late Rev. B.M. Wesley.

  They have four grandsons, Dennis Ray Davis, Jimmy Cox. Duane Cox and Shelby Newland Reed and one granddaughter, Kimberly Davis May.

 One great-granddaughter, Mindy Marie May and two great-grandsons, Chad Fitzgerald Davis and Alan Davis May.

  Assisting at the reception were daughters-in-law Patricia Reed and Jennifer Reed and son-in-law Raymond Davis. There were over one hundred in attendance.

  Out of town guests included, Mrs. Margaret Laswell, Mr. and Mrs. William N. Laswell, Rodney Jay and Brandi Laswell, Mrs. Edyth Jean Laswell, Terrie Ann and Cindy Briethaupt all of Ludlow; George and Tim Briethaupt of West Chester, Ohio; Mrs. Bonita Jo Fitzpatrick and Amy Fitzpatrick of Aurora, Ind. Stephen Boyd Bishop of Hamilton, Ohio; Mr. Christine Cardwell, Shelly and Kenny of Louisville, Mr. and Mrs.Charles Hensley of Bondville, Ky., Mr. and Mrs. Glen Austin and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde James all of Somerset.

  They received congratulatory calls from Florida, Michigan, and Louisville, also greetings from California and Oregon.

 

 

 FIFTY YEARS  1927- 1977
Fifty years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Hart Rice were united in marriage. Today they are getting ready to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug 21 at the Harvey Helm Library in Stanford. The celebration will be from 2 to 5. The couple were married August 20, 1927 in the home of the late Bro. Will Severance. Hosts for the occasion will be their children; Jack Rice of Crab Orchard, Henry Rice of Stanford, Roger Rice of Ohio, Mrs. Jesse Law of Crestwood, Mrs Amil Henderson, Mrs. Donald Spears, Mrs Louis Sudduth, Mrs. Ned Stickler, Mrs. Freda Stevens and Miss Linda Rice all of Stanford. They have 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited.

SILER- 50 Years

 Mr. and Mrs. Henry Siler of Waynesburg will celebrate their 50 golden anniversary on March 17 with an open house given by their children at the Harvey Helm Memorial Library in Stanford from 1 to 4 p.m.

 They were married in Lincoln County on March 19, 1934.

 They have two sons/ Paul Siler, Manfield, Ohio, and Tim Siler of Waynesburg; and four daughters; Mrs. Ruth Fox of Lexington, Mrs. Ruby Genton of Ohio, Mrs. Peggy Stickler of Stanford, and Helen Stephens of South Carolina. They also have fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

 

TUCKER- 59 Years

 Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Preston Tucker of Stanford will celebrate their 59th wedding Anniversary on February 11th.

 The Tuckers were married in 1920 at the home of Bro. J Howard Brazelton in Stanford. They have four children, Edwin Tucker and Lucille Kurtz, both of Richmond, Ind., Louise Gover of Stanford and Evan Ray "Buddy Tucker of Crab Orchard. 

TUCKER -65 Years

 Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Preston Tucker of Stanford celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Morrison Gover of Stanford. Rev. J. Howard Brazelton married them Feb 11, 1920 in Stanford.

They have four children all were here to help them celebrate the occasion; Mr. and Mrs. Evan Ray Tucker, Crab Orchard, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Tucker, Richmond, II. Mrs. Lucille T. Kurtz, Richmond, IN. Mrs. Louise T. Gover, Stanford. Other guests were James H. Tucker, Kings Mountain, Mr. Joan Nicholason, Fountain, IN., Ms. Ruth and Gover, Nicholasville and Brandon Gover, Stanford.

 

TUCKER-50 Years

 Mr. and Mrs. John A. (Libby) Tucker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 14, 1995. They were married April 14, 1945 at St. Sylvester Church in Ottenheim.

  Mrs. Tucker’s parents were John and Addie Tucker.

  Mr. and Mrs. Tucker are the parents of three children, Regina, Samuel, and Linda and have nine grandchildren.

A party is being held May 28 in their honor in Shelby, OH, where they have resided since 1964.
