SANDERS, Lula Oaks

Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Mae Sanders, 75, of Rt. 1, Versailles, were held Monday at Bovard Funeral Home in Versailles, with burial in Cliff Hill 
Cemetery. Rev. Richard Burcham of the Versailles Baptist Church officiated.  

She died Saturday at the Columbus Convalescent Center after several months of illness.  

She was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, March 5, 1901, the daughter of Carnt and Ida Harris Oaks and married Raymond Sanders, Sr. who survives.  

Mrs. Sanders was a member of the Riple [Ripley] County Barracks Auxiliary, World War I Veterans, No 190, who held services Sunday evening at the funeral home. 
She was also a member of the Versailles Baptist Church.  

Survivors, besides her husband are one son, Raymond, Jr., five daughters, Mrs. Bessie [Christine] Mae Weaver of Apache Junction, Arizona, Mrs. Mary Jewell Lay of Tempe, 
Arizona, Mrs. Lillian Jacobs of Waynesburg, Mrs. Lou Ellen Geabes of Versailles and Mrs. Dorothy Ann Burriss of Columbus; 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; 
one sister, Mrs. Eldora Estep of Crab Orchard, and one brother, Jesse Oaks of Waynesburg.

  Malinda Ellen Saylor, 72, of 4005 St. Lawrence St., Cincinnati, formerly of Crab Orchard, died there May 07.  

Born March 14, 1918, in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late Mack Thomas and Elsie VanWinkle Mullins. She was a housewife and a maid. She was a member 
of the Free Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a widow.  

Survivors include five sons, John Saylor of Florida, Solomon Saylor of Georgia, and Ewell, Robert and Arvil Saylor, all of Cincinnati; a daughter; two brothers, Melvin 
Mullins of Cincinnati and Bobby Mullins of Newport; two sisters, Allie Woodall of Stanford and Mattie Wardlow of Crab Orchard; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.  

Funeral was held May 10, at Martin Funeral Home, Crab Orchard. Burial was in Crab Orchard Cemetery 

Pallbearers were Pearl Helton, Frank Kilby, Robert Woodall, Gerald Birchfield, Ernest Hopkins and Dennis Hopkins.

Roxie Hoskins Saylor, 81, of 2504 Knorr Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Crab Orchard died Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati of an extended illness.

She was born in Clay County on Sept. 18, 1906 to the late Matt and Verinda Shelton Saylor.  

She was a former employee for the Frank Tea and Spice Co., of Cincinnati. She was a member of the Spring Grove Baptist Church, Cincinnati, formerly a member 
of the Watts Chapel Baptist Church of Crab Orchard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hezzie Saylor on March 14, 1982.  

She is survived by a son, Charles Vernon Saylor and a daughter, June E. Hawkins, both of Cincinnati; a brother, Edd Hoskins of Paoli, Ind., five sisters, Lettie Frontuto of 
Cincinnati, Ohio, Maggie Saylor of Paoli, Ind., Dazie Little of Flemminsburg, Naomi Brummett of Winchester and June Genton of Crab Orchard; 3 grandchildren, 
6 great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and friends.  

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 27 at the Martin Funeral Home with Rev. David Calhoun officiating. Burial was in the Saylor Family Cemetery, Pallbearers were nephews.

Stephen Curtis Saylor, 46, of 124 Lisa Ave, Danville, Ky., died Friday, November 24 at the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.  

A native of Lincoln County, he was born May 8, 1943 to Sam Saylor and Melavee Harris Saylor. He was a 25 year employee with Penn Ventilator in Junction City. 
He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist, a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Gethsemane, and a past member of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge # 328 F &AM.  

Other survivors include his wife, Eula Lee Wesley Saylor; one son, John Saylor, Danville; two daughters, Cassandra and Patricia Saylor, both of Danville; and 
three brothers, Lowell, Morris and Wayne Saylor, all of Waynesburg.  

Pallbearers were Johnny Cummins, Travis Godbey, Marty Worthington, Nellus Estes, Tommy Messer and Johnny Preston. Honorary pallbearers were the men of 
Gethsemane Baptist Church and fellow mechanics of Danville.  

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 27 at the Gethsemane Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Hall officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.  

Fox Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dessie Petrey Scheffler, 82, of 4525 Highway 39, Crab Orchard, Ky., died Sunday, May 26 at her residence.  

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Nov. 6, 1908 to the late John Petrey and Amanda Todd Petrey. She was a homemaker and a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church.  

Survivors include her husband, Fred [Frederick] A. Scheffler, Sr., Crab Orchard; two sons, Clarence Scheffler, Crab Orchard and Fred Scheffler, Jr., Los Angeles, CA.; 
one daughter, Faye Hatfield, Crab Orchard; two grandchildren, Debbie Hatfield and Donnie Scheffler, both of Crab Orchard and two great grandchildren, 
Chris and Lori Scheffler, both of St. Cloud, FL.  

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 29 at the Fox Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Cathers and Bro. Cecil Roundtree officiating. Burial in Friendship Cemetery.

Fred G. Shaw, age 81, of 1305 Walnut St., Crab Orchard died Wednesday, Dec. 27 at the Fort Logan Hospital E.C. U., Stanford, of an extended illness.  

He was born Oct. 11, 1908 in Lincoln County to the late James Shaw and Mary Wyler.

He was retired from the T. Y. Shaw and Sons Scrap Yard, Crab Orchard and was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.  

Survivors include sisters, Ann Calloway and Mary Eliza Blankenship, both of Crab Orchard, Rosella James of Stanford and Emma James of Dayton, OH.; several nieces, nephews and friends.  

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 29 at the Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Harpe and Rev. David Calhoun officiating. Burial was in Crab Orchard Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Jimmy Callway, Billy Blankenship, Tommy Blankenship, Fred Wyler, Billy Walter Hawley and Charles Brummett.

SHAW, Freida S.  

Freida Simpson Shaw, 62, of Riverdale, Ga., died Friday, August 16, 1991 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale after an illness.  

A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Othmer Simpson. She was a housewife and the widow of Ernest Shaw.  

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Twana) Worthan, of Rex, Ga.; one sister Betty Elam of Crab Orchard; and one granddaughter Amanda Worthan of Rex. Ga. and three nephews.  

Funeral services were held at Ramsey Funeral Home, August 19, 1991 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. David Calhoun. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Joe Downs, Kenneth Barnett, Rodney Elam, Billy Owens, Shawn Hester and Barry Hester.

SILER, James "Jim"  

October 21, 1947 - February 10, 2000  

James "Jim" Siler, 41, of Waynesburg, died Friday, February 10 at the U. K. Medical Center in Lexington of an extended illness.  

He was born, Oct. 21, 1947 in Lincoln County to the late John Siler and Macie Petrey Siler.

He was a truck driver, a D. J. on the radio station and a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.  

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kendall Siler of Waynesburg; two brother, Ulan Siler of Waynesburg and John Siler, Jr. of Columbus, Ind.; a daughter, Jeannie 
Sue Hughes, Bronston; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.  

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Gutenson officiating.  Burial was in Mt. Hebron Church Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Bobby Siler, Tony Siler, Donnie Siler, Rod Doss, Jerry Petrey and Leon Petrey.

Martin Funeral Home was in charge of all the arrangements.

SILER, Ulan V. "Dude"  

Ulan V. "Dude" Siler, 72 of 40 Rector Road, Waynesburg, died Saturday, February 5, 2000 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.  

He was born March 30, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Macie P. [Petrey] Siler. He was the widower of Margaret B. Siler. He was a former 
employee of Somerset Oil and a member of  Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.  

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Doss of Waynesburg, Melinda Sebastian of Waynesburg, Vicky Dykes of Crab Orchard, Patricia Hester of West Liberty; two sons, 
Bobby Siler of Waynesburg and Donnie Siler of Junction City; one brother John Siler Jr. of Columbus, Ind.; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.  

Funeral services were held Monday, February 7, 2000 at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by Rev. Gary King. Burial was in Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery in Waynesburg.  

Pallbearers were Ronnie Padgett, Scott Cook, Mike Miracle, J. P. Doss, Jerry Siler and Eugene Siler.

Othmer Simpson, 82, of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 1984, at the Garrard County Hospital.  

He was born April 30, 1902. He was a retired State Highway employee for 22 years and a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church.  

Mr. Simpson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mable Smith Simpson, Crab Orchard; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Shaw, Riverdale, Georgia; Mrs. Betty Elam, Crab 
Orchard; and Mrs. Marion Hester, Sierra Vista, Arizona; five sisters, Mrs. Sally Belvin, Mrs. Matilda Denny and Mrs. Elsie Bray, all of Crab Orchard; Mrs. Anna 
Bailey and Mrs. Elizabeth White, both of Lexington; two half sister, Mrs. Sue Thompson and Mrs. Daisy Thompson both of Ohio; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, with Rev David Calhoun officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Lonnie and Marion Smith, Bobby and Roy, Jr. Denny, Lee Maggard and Chad Middleton.

Morgan and Fox Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Amber H. Sims, 84, of Fellowship Home in Danville, formerly of Kings Mountain died Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Ephraim McDowell Memorial Hospital in Danville.  

A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late George H. Sims and Delia Carter Sims.  

He is survived by a brother, Greene Sims of Ft. Mitchell, Ky. and a sister of Lucille Miller of Cincinnati, Ohio.  

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at the Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home with Rev. Carroll Jasper officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 
funeral time. Burial will be in the Sims Family Cemetery.

Anna R. Sims, 85 of 6158 N. Ky. 837, Kings Mountain, died Tuesday March 21 at her home.  

A native of Casey Co., she was born Dec. 1, 1914 to the late George Marion Rigney and Mary Falconbury Rigney. She was a homemaker, member of Walltown 
Christian Church, and the widow of John T. Sims.  

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lena Phillippe; two sisters, Bessie Martin and Bertha Land; and an infant brother.  

Survivors include three sons, Hubert Sims of Walltown and Hollis and Lloyd Sims of Louisville; one daughter, Linda Patterson of Walltown; 14 grandchildren; 
23 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held Friday March 24 at the Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. J. R. Phillippe, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Double Springs Cemetery.  

Active pallbearers were John Haddix, Steven Sims, Ray Sims, Danny Sims, Michael Sims, Garland Phillippe, and Anthony Sims.

Clara May Sims, 91 of Moreland, died Thursday in the Friendship House of Danville after a long illness.  

Born June 10, 1895 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late William and Betty Estes Penn. She was the widow of Oscar Sims.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, 
Norene Sims Powell. She was a member of the Hustonville Baptist Church.  

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Baker of Moreland, and Thelma VanHook of Beach Grove, Ind.; two sisters, Beulah Fredericks of Middleburg and Flossie 
Faulconberry of Indianapolis, Ind.; 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. [Has 8 great-great grandchildren]  

Funeral services were held Sunday at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery

Hustonville - (Spl) - Services for Ina Kathleen Sims, 79, of Hustonville, Rt 1, who died Sunday at the home of a son, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Locust Grove Baptist 
Church with burial  in the KP Hall Cemetery. The Revs. Robert Lanham and Fred Hill will officiate.  

She was a native of Harrison County and a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church. 

She was the widow of Arthur Sims.  

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Grace Goins of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mrs. Enid Tallan [ Pallan ] of Ludlow, and three sons, Randall and Richard Sims, both of Hustonville 
Rt. 1 and Raymond Sims of Kings Mountain, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The body is at Morgan-Fox Funeral Home in Stanford.

Luada Sims, 75, of Parkers Lake, Ky., formerly of Kings Mountain, died Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Cumberland Manor Nursing Home in Parkers Lake, Ky.  

A native of Lincoln Co., she was born May 3, 1911. She was the daughter of the late George H. Sims and Delia Carter Sims.  

She is survived by a brother Greene Sims of Ft. Mitchell, Ky. and a sister Lucille Miller, Cincinnati, Ohio.  

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a. m. at the Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home with Rev. Carroll Jasper officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time. 
Burial will be in the Sims Family Cemetery in Kings Mountain.

Randall Arthur Sims, 66, 10765 Green River Road, Hustonville, died Saturday, February 10, 1996 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.  

Born June 15, 1929 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ina Kathleen Doan Sims. He was a retired wireman-journeyman for the International 
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He belonged to New Salem Baptist Church and was a Mason and Scottish Rite member. He was 
owner of Sims Grocery and was a Lincoln County constable.  

Survivors include his wife, Betty Faye Austin Sims, New Salem; two daughters, Tammy League of Lancaster and Belinda Monin of Bardstown; one brother, 
Raymond Sims; Kings Mountain; a sister, Enid Pallan, Ludlow; and six grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 13, 1996 at Fox Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Bobby Estes. Burial was in the New Salem Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Conley, Lyndell, Norman and Dennis Sims, Steffon Pallan and Don Barlow.

Richard T. Sims, 58, Route 1, Waynesburg, died Thursday October 7, 1982 at Fort Logan Hospital of a sudden illness.

He was born December 21, 1923 and was a native of Lincoln County. He worked at York Casket Company, Lancaster, a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church, a veteran 
of World War II, and son of Arthur and Ina Kathleen Doan Sims.  

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Agnes Sims, Route 1, Waynesburg; one son, Norman Sims, Route 1, Middleburg; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Webb, Route 1, 
Waynesburg; two sisters, Mrs. George Goins, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Mrs. Enid Pallan, Ludlow; two brothers, Randall Sims, Route 1, Kings Mountain; and four grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 9, 1982 at Morgan and Fox Funeral Home with Rev. Robert McFalls officiating. Burial was in the Gooch Cemetery, Kings Mountain.

Military service was held at the cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Conley Sims, Lyndell Sims, Dennis Sims, Stephen Pallan, Art Hillard and James Smith.

Laura Shea Singleton, 66, 2012 Tower Drive, Eubank, died Monday, January 3, at her residence.  

A native of Pulaski County, she was born Dec. 12, 1927 to the late William Trumie Anderson and Naomi Smith Anderson. 
She was a homemaker and a member of Cuba Church of God.  

Survivors include her husband, Wilburn Singleton of Eubank; two daughters, Matilda Barron of Eubank and Patricia Diane Heist of Waynesburg; four brothers, 
Elvis Anderson and Arlie Anderson both of Waynesburg, Rue Anderson of Eubank and Paul Anderson of Sunman, IN.; two sisters, Mary West and S
hirley Sutton of Eubank; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold and Rev. Troy Roberts officiating. 
Burial will be in Salyers Cemetery in Casey County.

Stanford - Eugene "Little Dee" Sizemore, 63, of Crab Orchard Route 2 died Friday, Oct 3, at Fort Logan Hospital.  

Born in Lincoln County on July 17, 1923, he was a son of the late Dea Sizemore. His mother, LouAda Thompson Sizemore, survives.  He was a member of the Baptist Church.  

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Oakes Sizemore of Crab Orchard; a daughter, Patricia Sue Fletcher of Reading, Ohio; three brothers, Delbert Sizemore of Waynesburg, 
Jimmy Sizemore of Stanford. and Ronnie Sizemore of Crab Orchard; four sisters, Ruby Shackleford of Crab Orchard, Mildred Church of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ann Tomplin of 
Boston Pike, Ind., and Wilma Jean Coffey of Centerville, Ind.; one grandchild.  

The funeral was held Monday, Oct. 6 at Fox Funeral Home, Stanford, by the Rev. Ronald Harp. Burial was in the Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Funeral for William Hubert Smith, 68, of Crab Orchard Route 1, who died Saturday, July 29 at Kings Daughters Hospital in Shelbyville 
after an extended illness, was held at 2 p.m.

Tuesday at Mount Zion Church of Christ. Thaddeus Eubank officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.  

A native of Pulaski County, he was a retired farmer and a member of the Mount Zion Church of Christ.  

Survivors include four daughters, Beatrice Perry of Crab Orchard Route 1, Della Mae Camplese of Tampa, Fla., Andrea French of Shelbyville, and Betty Jo Huffines 
of Louisville; three sons, Marvin Lee of Science Hill, Jack Wayne of Louisville and Bill D. Smith of Crab Orchard Route 1; two sisters, Mrs. Lela Sutton of Somerset 
and Margaret McClure of Eubank; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Margaret Speake, 88 of Lancaster Street Crab Orchard, died Thursday, Jan 11 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.  

A native of Garrard County, she was born Dec. 8, 1907 to the late George and Susie Elizabeth Best Denny. She was a homemaker and a member of Crab 
Orchard Baptist Church and the widow of Edward Speake.  

Survivors include a son, Wayne Speake of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Georgia Sue Cantrell of  Valparaiso, FL., Peggy Holcomb of Florence; two sisters,

Stanford  (Spl) - Rites for Frank Spears, 73 of Stanford Rt. 1, who died Friday morning of an apparent heart attack, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Pine Hall 
Church of Christ [Pine Grove Church of Christ] with burial in the church cemetery.  

Friends may call at Beazley-Raney-Speaks Funeral Home.  

Mr. Speaks, a farmer, was a native of Virginia. He was the son of the late Joe Green and Charlotte Kidd Spears. He was a member of Pine Hall Church of Christ.  

Survivors include his wife, Mary Dye Spears; seven sons, Gene and Eddie Spears, both of Stanford, Owen Spears of Science Hill, George Spears of Bradford, 
Ohio, and Joe , Johnny and Harold Spears, all of Marion, Ohio; three daughters, Alice Spears of Stanford and Lottie Young and Dixie Spears, both of Marion; one brother, 
Ed Spears of Sunberg, Ind.; two sisters, Viola Manuel and Deffie Oakes, both of Stanford, and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral for George William Spears, 49, of Wells Landing Rd., Danville, Rt.1, who died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, after a long illness, was held at 1 p.m. 
Saturday, Nov. 5 at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home, Richmond. The Rev. Frank Foster officiated and burial followed in Richmond Cemetery.  

He was the husband of Mrs. Betty Whitaker Spears and employee of Corning Glass Works in Danville. He was born in Pulaski County and the son of Mrs. Mary Spears of Eubank, who survives. 

Survivors also include two sons, Danny Spears and Larry Spears both of Danville; three brothers, Jerry D. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Henry Lee of Richmond and Luther Spears of 
Crab Orchard; six sisters, Mrs. Ella Hines of Eubank, Mrs. Flossie Schlappi of Waynesburg, Mrs. Gladys Hensley and Mrs. Tressa Justice, both of Hendersonville, NC., and 
Mrs. Verna Ledford and Mrs. Dortha Lee Ledford, both of Crab Orchard; several nieces and nephews.

Orville Gene Spears, 35, of 409 Crescent Drive, Danville, formerly of Stanford, died Saturday, May 9, at Fort Logan Hospital.  

A Native of Lincoln County, he was born Sept 18, 1956 to the late Frank and Mary Dye Spears. He was a farmer and an Army peacetime veteran.  

Survivors include his wife Teresa Woodyard Spears of Danville; two sons, Shawn and Gregory Spears both of Danville; two daughters, Jenie and Elisha Spears, both of Danville;

six brothers, Owen Spears of Nancy, Harold Spears of Sidney, OH, George Spears of Lancaster, Joe and Eddie Spears, both of Stanford and Johnny Spears of Union City, OH.; 
and three sisters, Dixie Farris of Danville and Lottie and Alice Spears, both of Marion, OH.  

Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 12 at the Pine Grove Cemetery with Bro. James Kidd officiating.

Fox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rebecca Alice Spratt, 78, formerly of Rowland, died Sunday evening, May 6 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lucille Benge, Danville Route 1, after a long illness.  

Mrs. Spratt was born Jan. 15, 1901 in Rockcastle County to the late Alva and Sara Bullock Renner. She was a housewife and a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. 
She was married to the late Frank Spratt who died in 1964. 

Additional survivors include two other daughters, Margaret Osborne of Danville and Wilma Nichols of Fern Creek: two sons, Chester Martin of Hustonville 
and Elzy Spratt of Indianapolis, Ind.; 32 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beazley-Raney- Speaks Funeral Home with the Rev. John Carter officiating.

Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Grandsons served as pall-bearers.

SPRINKLES, Leonard A.  

Orlando, Fla. - Leonard A. Sprinkles, 83 of Orlando, died Dec. 19 in Orlando.  

Born March 22, 1925 in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Arch and Nannie Sprinkles. He was a retired Army and vocational school teacher for 26 years in Orlando. 
He was a Mason and Member of Dover Shores Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Nell Vanhook Sprinkles of Orlando; a son and two daughters;

a brother, Archie K. Sprinkles of Santa Clara, Calif.; three sisters, Mildred Carter of Danville and Alice Murphy and Nancy Caldwell, both of Stanford; and six grandchildren. 

The funeral was held last Thursday at Dover Shores Baptist Church, Orlando. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Orlando.

James R. Spurlin, 85, of 116 Lynnwood Drive, Lancaster, died Friday, Dec, 22 at the Garrard County Hospital in Lancaster.  

A native of Madison County, he was born May 7, 1904 to the late George Rufus Spurlin and Katie Riley Spurlin. He was a farmer, cattleman and landowner in Lincoln and 
Madison counties. He was a member of Richmond Primitive Baptist Church and received the Master Conservationist Award in Lincoln County in 1983.  

Survivors include his wife, Nevelyn Alexander Spurlin, Lancaster; two sons, James Alan Spurlin, Preachersville and George F. Spurlin of Texas; four sisters, Ruby Downard, 
Boca Raton, FL., Ann McKenna and Kathleen Patrick, both of Sarasota, FL. and Elizabeth Cole of Venice, FL.; two brothers, Evan C. Spurlin and Thomas Spurlin 
both of Richmond; 3 grandchildren, James David Spurlin, Preachersville, Dr. Mark Alan Spurlin, Danville, and Barry Wayne Spurlin, Preachersville; and 5 great grandchildren.  

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 27 at the Ramsey Funeral Home with Rev. James Crowe and Rev. Billy Estes officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were James David Spurlin, Barry Wayne Spurlin, Dr. Mark Alan Spurlin, Marvin Perkins, Alan Bohlman. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Barber, Roger Grubbs, 
Denny Tribble, Marshall Singleton, Fred Wyler, Billy Gilbert, Clifton Whittaker.

John Hardy Stevens, 79, of Brodhead, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Sunday, Feb 19, at the Rockcastle Hospital, Inc., Mt Vernon of  an extended illness.  

Born in Lincoln County on March 14, 1909 to the late Will Stevens and Irene Wren Stevens. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Watts Chapel Baptist Church. 
He was preceded in death by a son, Delbert Stevens.  

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Bell Thomas Stevens of Brodhead; three sons, J. W. Stevens, Crab Orchard, Bobby Stevens, McKee, and Jimmy Stevens of Brodhead; 
one daughter, Delsie Brummett of Brodhead; two brothers, Lawrence Payne and Jim Payne, both of Cincinnati; one sister, Stella Adams of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren; 
6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.  

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Gutenson officiating. Burial was in the Ephesus Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Kevin Stevens, Rodney Brummett, Dale Stevens, Shannon Stevens, Ernest Spoonamore and Ernie Bowling.

Stanford - The funeral of Billy Stickler, 38, of the Ottenheim community was held Sunday at Mount Hebron Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan Gutenson. Burial was in the church cemetery.  

Stickler died Friday, Dec. 19 at Fort Logan Hospital after an illness.

Born May 1, 1948, in Lincoln County, he was the son of Cecil Lewis Stickler of Waynesburg Route 2 and the late William Stickler.  He was a farmer and a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church. 

Additional survivors include two brothers, Jeffrey Stickler of Waynesburg Route 2 and Eugene Lewis of Columbus, Ohio; seven sisters, Mrs. Arlie (Wilma) 
Padgett, Mrs. Joseph (Eva) Gutenson, and Mrs. George (Amanda) Sizemore, all of Waynesburg Route 2, Mrs. Hobert (Emma) Mullins of Stanford Route 3, 
Mrs. Mike (Linda) Smith of Augusta, Ga., and Mrs. Mike (Margaret) Caldwell of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.
