Jackie Ellis Brock, 59, husband of Debbie Wallin Brock, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington.

Jackie was born Feb. 21, 1954, in Bell County, Ky. He was the son of the late Plese and Nora E. Gross Brock.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Deborah (Mark) Bullock and John Ellis (Suzie) Brock; two sisters, Betty (Joe)
Sparrow and Gail Cochran; two brothers, Sammy (Ruby) Brock, Plese Jr. (Linda) Brock; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Dustin,
Cheyenne and Faith; and one great-grandson, Brantley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Plese Sr., and Nora Brock, one sister, Helen Greer.

Services will be noon Monday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Nathaniel Wallin presiding.
Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Bertha "Louise" Brosmore of the Baptist Village Care Center in Erlanger, 86, died peaceful Wednesday, May 22nd at St. Elizabeth
Hospice in Edgewood. Louise was born in Crab Orchard Kentucky. Louise was one of the original members of
Decoursey Baptist Church in Fairview, Ky.

She was retired from JC Penny in Covington and Newport. She was preceded by her son Jim. She is survived by her son Dennis (Beth )
of Edgewood and Richard ( Rebecca) of Erwin, TN. her daughter in law Sheila of Independence, her five grandchildren Jeremy and
Jason of Independence, Kyle and Jared of Edgewood and Kirby of Erwin, TN. Many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday,

Phillip Junior Carter, age 63, of KY Hwy 501 in Kings Mountain, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at UK Medical
Center in Lexington. Born Sunday, February 19, 1950 in Stanford, he was the son of the late Otis & Bula Barger Carter.
His loving wife, of 44 years, is Betty Sue Greer Carter of Kings Mountain, whom he married August 2, 1969. Phillip
worked at Lincoln County Pallet Sawmill for 20 years and was a member of Miracle Temple Church in Waynesburg.
Phillip enjoyed fishing, gardening, and was an avid UK Basketball fan.

Phillip leaves behind one son, Greg Carter (Vinita) of Hustonville; one daughter, Donna Lewis (Dwayne) of Kings Mountain;
one brother, Jimmy Wren (Evelyn) of Lowell, Indiana; one sister, Jeanette Phillips Pullum (Ralph) of McKinney; and
four grandchildren, DJ Beatty, Ricky Carter, Gavin Lewis, and McKinley Lewis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Little, Helen Pruitt, and Bessie
Greer; and two brothers, John Neeves and Robert Carter.

A Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Locust Grove Baptist Church in
Kings Mountain with Bro. Keith Bowling and Bro. Jim England officiating the service. Burial will follow in KP Hall Cemetery.

Martha Sue Brock Edwards, age 59, of Darst Street in Stanford, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Central Baptist
Hospital in Lexington. Born Monday, May 31, 1954 in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Ira “Bud” & Lola Hazlett Brock.
She was the widow of the late Tony Edwards. Martha was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was an avid user of Facebook.

Martha leaves behind two sons, James Thomas Durham (Starlett) and Christopher Shaun Brock (Kim) both of Stanford; two daughters,
Connie Sue Gooch (Scottie) and Kathy Gaines both of Stanford; one brother, Ora Junior Brock (Jackie) of Villa Rica, Georgia;
two sisters, Cecilia Jane Brock of Stanford and Clara Marie Holtzclaw (Allen) of Hustonville; seven grandchildren;
and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Brian Berry; and two brothers, Max Samuel Brock and Lige Brock.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Friday, September 20, 2013 at Fox Funeral Home with Bro. BJ Taylor officiating the service.

GIVENS Edna, 72, widow of Ralph Givens, died Fri, May 31, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital. Born Oct 24, 1940 in Crab Orchard,
KY, she was the daughter of the late Cummins and Ophelia King Pennington. Mrs. Givens was a graduate of Berea College,
where she earned a degree in nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, and she was later
employed in sales by Sears.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Ray Givens and Derrick Ronell Givens; three grandchildren, Derrick Kaleb,
Khloe Elizabeth, and Kailynn Francis Givens; and one brother, Charles "Clifford" Pennington of Dayton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, DeShawn Rena Givens; one sister, Ethel Pennington Lyons; and four brothers,
Carl, Thomas, James, and Robert Pennington. She is also survived by a special aunt, Florence B. King of Lexington,
KY, and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be 1pm Fri, June 7th at Main Street Baptist Church, 582 W. Main St., Lexington, KY 40507
by Rev. Benjamin S. Baker. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 11am-1pm Fri at the church.

SCIENCE HILL — Fern E. Godbey, 71, of Burnside, Ky., passed away Saturday, Sept.14, 2013, at home in Danville, Ky.

Born Nov. 24, 1941, in Crab Orchard, Ky., she was a daughter of the late John Mac and Alice Buchanan Chappell.
She did many jobs but her calling was that of a mother. She attended Mount Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Ricky L. Godbey (Marc Hopkins) of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Timothy R. Godbey of
Whitley City, Ky.; a daughter, Angela M. (James) Bender of Danville; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Keith of
Welston, Ohio, Timothy R. Godbey Jr. of Madison, W.Va., Haleigh Blackburn of Williamson, W.Va., Aaron M.
Godbey of Clarksville, Tenn., Joshua S. Blackburn of Williamson, W.Va., Hannah R. Godbey of Clarksville, Tenn., and
Caitlyn P. Godbey of Clarksville, Tenn.; a great-grandchild, Hannah Grace Johnson of South Point, Ohio; a brother,
Clarence Buddy Chappell of Barbourville, Ky.; two sisters, Mary Lou Sowders and Catherine Dishon, both of Stanford, Ky.;
many people she treated as her children, especially Michelle Stamper and Colette Hall; and her Hospice caregivers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Godbey, whom she married May 27, 1960, and who died June 4, 2010;
her parents; three brothers, Johnny Mac Chappell, Bobby Chappell and Ronald Chappell; and a sister, Ruth Pruitt.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro.
Perry Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Church Cemetery.

Coleman Louis Goode, 81, of Danville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013. Born May 11, 1932, he was the
son of the late Everett and Mary Reed Goode.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joyce Dalton Goode; two sons, Terry (Vicki) Goode of Perryville and Steven
(Tammy) Goode of Stanford; a daughter, Jana (Bruce) Coyle of Perryville; a brother, Harold Goode of Louisville;
two sisters, Charlotte Young and Jane Mitchell, both of Danville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. David Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Ollis W. “Big O” Hardwick, 79, of Pleasant Point School Road in Waynesburg, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013
at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Born Tuesday, April 17, 1934 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Ed and Bonnie Jasper Hardwick.
He was the loving husband of Hester Hardwick of Waynesburg, whom he wed Jan. 16, 1960. Ollis was a US
Army Veteran, worked as a farmer, and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. In his
spare time, he enjoyed fishing and playing rook.

In addition to his wife, Ollis leaves behind one daughter, Lisa Young of Stanford; two grandchildren, Brittnee
Young of Lexington, and Zane Young of Stanford; three sisters, Ada Maggard of Williamsburg, Ohio,
Verna Reynolds of Waynesburg, and Lena Rice of Milford, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by one brother, Denny Hardwick; and four sisters, Marie Brown, Sylvia Rice, Vina Rector, and Melia Liles.

The Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Bro. Kerry Jones and
Bro. Kyle Page officiating the service. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery with full military honors
performed by the Caswell-Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion. David Hardwick, Mark Hardwick,
Mike Hardwick, Shannon Reynolds, Thomas Ed Rector, and Willie Rice will serve as active pallbearers.

Born Jan. 20, 1962, in Marion County to Betty Shuck Price of Bradfordsville and the late John Wesley Helm.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Tiffany Elmore of Liberty; three sons, Johnathan Helm of Bowling Green, and
Gabriel and Timothy Pridemore of Liberty; six daughters, Nancy Jo Orberson of Lebanon, and Beth Fair, Jennifer Fair, Destiny
Pridemore, Taylor Pridemore and Amber Pridemore, all of Liberty; one brother, Clea Helm of Bradfordsville; three sisters,
Mary Lane and Vicky Gribbins of Bradfordsville and Marsha Vaughn of Lebanon; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Burial was in Peck Cemetery in Lincoln County.

Survivors include two sons, James Richard (Courtney) Jones and Matthew Jones; two brothers, Dean (Kim) Jones and
Benjamin Jones; four sisters, Billye (Roland) Johnson, Sandra (Edward) Gardner, Penny Johnson and Zelda Jones;
four grandchildren; and a special friend, Pam Mullins.

Funeral services are 11 a.m Tuesday at First Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will
follow in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Born June 26, 1919, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late John and Lula Traynor Vaught.
She was the widow of the late Edgar Kelly.

Mrs. Kelly was employed by Palm Beach for more than 12 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church for more than
79 years, worked in the nursery for more than 35 years, and loved to sing in the choir.

Survivors include her two sons, Glen (Donna) Kelly and Eddie (Susie) Kelly; five grandsons, Joe (Robin) Kelly, Taylor
(Natalie) Kelly, Todd (Elizabeth) Kelly, Jon (Emily) Kelly and Dustin Kelly; four great-granddaughters, Katherin Louise Kelly,
Jordyn Kate Kelly, Elaine Grace Kelly and Cora Maelyn Kelly; and four great-grandsons, Wilson Kelly, Colton Kelly,
Patrick Kelly and Dixon Kelly.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur, Henry, Roy and J.C.
Vaught; three sisters, Rosetta Timberlake, Myrtle Daughtry and Janie Taylor; and a very special friend, Jake Holmes.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home. Dr. Tim Mathis will officiate.
Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery.

Edith Kidd, 99, of Stanford, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Stanford.

Born Aug. 20, 1914, in Stanford, she was a daughter of the late Eddie and Evy Young. She was the widow of the late Lawrence Kidd
and a member of the Stanford First Church of God.

Survivors include a son, Billy Kidd (Hilda) of Shelbyville, Ky.; two daughters, Peggy Kidd Royce (Jack) of Frankfort, Ky., and
Barbara Kidd Cooper (Don) of Stanford; a daughter-in-law, Shelia Kidd of Stanford; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;
four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dickie Kidd; four brothers; and four sisters.

A private family service has been scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.

Born Sept. 19, 1945, in Crab Orchard, he was a son of the late Ira Irvin and Ora Nay Kidd.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Sue Kidd; stepsons, Scott Sheen (Sarah) and David Sheen (Gena Jo “George”); and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Dowell Kidd. Burial at Friendship Baptist Church cemetery.

Born May 2, 1924, in Hustonville, she was a daughter a daughter of the late George and Ellen Griffin Maddox. She was the widow of James S. King.

Survivors include a daughter, Myrtle Lynn of Liberty; a son, James Dewey King of Batavia, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Maddox; and a sister, Ada Taylor.

Born Feb. 24, 1924, Nina was a daughter of the late Chester and Mattie Wilcher Overstreet. She was the widow of Coleman Lane.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (Ricky) Hall of Moreland; two sons, C.J. Lane of Hustonville and Lewis Lane of Ark; a granddaughter that she raised, Tammy Burger; nine other grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and six great - great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sept. 23 at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. JR Fields officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Faye Lee Dailey Lawson, 96, of Moreland, went to her heavenly home on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.

Born Nov. 17, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Burgess and Bessie Pritchett Dailey. She was a member of Westside Community United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, David H. Lawson of Moreland; two grandchildren, Gina (Don) Meade and David (Gwen) Lawson, both of Moreland; four great-grandchildren, David (Rebecca) Meade of Stanford, Mary Beth (Rob) Sarver of South Carolina, Kassie (Kris) Branham of Nicholasville and Chad Lawson of Moreland; three great-great-grandchildren, Caleb Meade, Cara Meade and Rylan Sarver; two sisters, Nell Morrison of Ohio and Betty Robertson of Danville; and a brother, David Kilman of Wisconsin.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Westside Community United Methodist Church by Bro. Ken Hughes, with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Lawson, Don Meade, Chad Lawson, David Meade, Fred Worthington and David Russell Dailey. Honorary pallbearers are Caleb Meade, Kris Branham and Rob Sarver.

Lincoln County lost another of her excellent citizens at 10 o'clock Saturday evening. He had been ill for months of an incurable disease and death must have been a sweet relief. During the middle of March he was taken to the Danville and Boyle Conty Hospital for an operation, but it was discovered that it would do him no good, and it was indefinitely postponed. Mr. Lewis was one of the very best citizens the county had, and no man in his section had greater reason to be proud of his standing in his community than he. He stood for the better things of life and his life proved the sincerity of he man. Mr. Lewis lived in Illinois a long time but returned to Kentucky some fifteen years ago and his last days had been spent on his farm in the McCormack's section.

He is survived by his widow Elsie. Mr. Lewis was 55 years old, a devout member of the Christian church and an officer of McCormack's church. The loss of such a man is inestimable and Lincoln County is poorer because of his passing. McCormack's church was crowded Sunday afternoon when his former pastor, Rev. Anderson, now of Berea, preached his funeral and the great throng followed the remains to their last resting place in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Ruby Boyd Lowe, 85, of Stanford, Ky., died Saturday, Sept.14, 2013, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Ky.

Born June 6, 1928, in Stanford, she was a daughter of the late Pete and Naomi Gilpin Walls. She had worked for several years as a waitress in Stanford and Danville, and had worked at the Walnut Factory and the Brake Parts Factory in Stanford.

She was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 345 ladies auxiliary in Stanford, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3634 Ladies Auxiliary in Danville.

Ruby was an avid fan of the UK Wildcats, Cincinnati Reds and NASCAR, particularly Jeff Gordon, No. 24. She was a Baptist by faith.

Survivors include her companion of 30 years, Lewis Atwood of Stanford; a daughter, Dee Terry of Stanford; two stepchildren, Kevin Lowe and Glenna Lowe, both of Harrodsburg; a brother, Johnny Walls of Shelbyville, Ky.; three sisters, Jewell Allen and Sue Ann Horn, both of Harrodsburg, Ky., and Barbara Owens of Shelbyville, Ky.; five grandsons, Brian Boyd, Kevin Terry, Randy Boyd, Patrick Terry and Nicholas Jones; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special little friend, Nemo.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Boyd; a daughter, Peggy Jones; a brother, Robert “Buddy” Walls; and an infant sister, Mary Amanda Walls.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home. The Rev. Chester Cornett will officiate. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Brian Boyd, Nicholas Jones, Randy Boyd, Kevin Terry, Patrick Terry and Gary Terry. Honorary bearers will be members of American Legion Post 345 ladies auxiliary and her great-grandchildren.

Born April 14, 1938, in Liberty, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Mary Sharp Murphy. She was the widow of Ronald H. Lynn.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy C. Lynn; a son, Ronnie Lynn; her brothers, Hollis, Charles, Vearl and Joe Murphy; and her sisters, Lois Sandusky and Wanda Vaught.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hustonville Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

JUDGE JOSEPH MAGEE DIES AT CRAB ORCHARD
Judge Joseph Magee died at his home in Crab Orchard at about four o'clock Wednesday afternoon after an illness of a few hours. He had been in Stanford for a day or so and on the morning
of the day he died, returned home on the train. He was ill while here, but had about recovered when he took his departure and was able to walk to his home from the depot.
Acute indigestion brought about his death. He had not been in the best of health for some time.

Deceased was 43 years old and is survived by his wife, who was a daughter of the late Sam Hardin, and two children, Elizabeth Magee and Lee Thompson Magee, his mother,
Mrs. Kate Magee, brothers, John, Sam and Harry Magee, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Browning, of the Maywood section. Judge Magee had been a member of the
Christian church since early youth and was an exceedingly clever and kind-hearted man.

A number of years ago he was chosen police judge of Crab Orchard and he filled that position with credit up to his death. He was a quick, witty official and his
decisions frequently brought applause because of the justice which they carried and the humorous language in which they were couched.

He was an uncompromising democrat and did valiant service for his party in every election. The writer asked him on Tuesday afternoon who he was for in the various
State offices: "Anybody suits me," was his quick response, adding that he was for the men who could win easiest in November. Judge Magee knew the political
game about as well as any man in the county and his diagnosis of any political situation was worth a great deal.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows and that order officiated at his burial in the Crab Orchard cemetery Thursday afternoon when all that was mortal
of the clever man was laid to rest to await the resurrection morn.

Lena Margaret Southerland Maddox, 85, of Moreland, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, October 20, 2013.

She is survived by one son, Cecil (Patsy) Maddox of Hustonville; two daughters, Wanda (John) Carrier of Stanford, and Janet Maddox of Stanford; one sister,
Eva Jenkins of Stanford; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. David Fralix with burial in the Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Clifford Helm, David Walter Maddox, Dwayne Maddox, Timmy Loveless, Dale Whited and Donnie Pennington.

Talitha Berlepp Magee, 91, died at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Saturday, October 12, 2013.

Talitha was born on November 7, 1921, to George L. Berlepp and Rosa Miller Berlepp in Stanford, Kentucky. After2800 graduating from Stanford High School in 1940, she
attended Eastern Kentucky University where she met John S. Magee. They married on February 20, 1943, in Abilene, Texas, where he was serving in the U.S. Army.
When he was transferred to Europe, she returned to Stanford to teach in a one-room school. When he returned from World War II, they briefly resided in
Maysville, Kentucky, where their one daughter was born.

In 1947, she and her husband, John, purchased a bakery in Hillsboro, Ohio. In 1951, they moved to the west to improve their daughter's health and worked in
Phoenix, Arizona, Death Valley National Park, and Yellowstone National Park until they purchased the Dutch Girl Bakery in Santa Rosa, California. After John's death in 1957,
she continued to run the bakery in Santa Rosa until it was sold. She moved to Kent, Ohio, to complete her undergraduate degree in education at Kent State University
and later completed her Master's Degree in Education. She taught elementary school for thirty years in Ravenna, Ohio. She lived in Kent, Ohio, until 2004 when she moved to Idaho Falls.

Talitha had a sense of humor, a twinkle in her eye, and laughter which remained with her through her dementia. She was known for her creativity, hard work, generosity, and warmth.
She enjoyed children, animals, gardening, reading, and interior decorating.

Talitha is survived by her daughter, Renee R. Magee of Idaho Falls, ID; grandsons, John H. Freudenthal of Portland, OR and Aaron W. Freudenthal of Pittsburgh, PA; and niece,
Diane Schmidt Nicholson of Fort Meyers, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Carol (Harry) Schmidt of Canton, Ohio, and Charlotte (Jay) Ward of Knoxville, Tennessee; and brother,
George (Joan) Berlepp of Canton, Ohio.

John Marvin “Johnny” May, age 69, of Eubank, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Somerset. Born Friday, October 22, 1943
on Ellison Ridge in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Marvin & Katherine Hubble May. Johnny was a member of Polly Ann Baptist Church and loved UK Basketball and fishing.
Throughout his life, he worked as a farmer.

Johnny leaves behind one brother, Thomas E. May (Brenda) of Statesville, North Carolina; eight sisters, Louise Webb (Walton) of Rixeyville, Virginia,
Jean Reichel of Cincinnati, Ohio, Peggy Ruckel (Lewis) of Eubank, Donna Ruckel (Lloyd) of Waynesburg, Emma B. Ruckel of Eubank, Patsy Walker (Jerry)
of Somerset, Ann Hubble of Somerset, Jenny Singleton (Larry) of Eubank; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Mullins.

Mr. H. McClure is still very low, having been sick twenty-one days with typhoid fever. He is a noble representative Odd Fellow, and so much beloved by the

Jeraldine McKinney, age 75, of Stanford, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 06, 2013. Born Friday, September 9, 1938 in Lincoln County, daughter of the late J.B. & Bessie (Brown) Carpenter, and step-daughter of the late James Estes. Jeraldine worked for seven years as a dispatcher at the Stanford Police Department and was a homemaker. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Jeraldine was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Jean Kidd and Betty Maxine Combs.

Jeraldine leaves behind her daughter, Ann McKinney (George Gooch) of Kings Mountain; two grandchildren, Dusty Shackelford (Kelly) of Stanford and Tiffany Adams (Allen) of Eagle River, Alaska; and six great-grandchildren, Destiny, Dusty Jr., Chad & Lilly Shackelford, and Sirenna and Aiden Adams.

Honoring Jeraldine’s wishes, Cremation Rites have been honored. No services are planned at this time.

Shirley B. Foley Mullins, 74, of Stanford, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

She was born April 25, 1939, in Kings Mountain, to the late Loren and Dolly Sims Foley. She was the widow of the late Darrell Mullins. She was an employee of Foley’s Grocery when it was owned by her parents and she later became the owner for 37 years and changed the name to Shirley’s Grocery. She was also a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Keith (Janice) Mullins and Bruce (Eutheda) Mullins, both of Highland; one daughter, Rhonda McBee (Keith Long) of Stanford; one sister, Gladys (J.C.) Sowers of Stanford; four grandchildren, Joey (Christy) Mullins, Jeremy McBee (Chey Tinsley), Brandon (Kayla) Mullins and Ben Mullins (Brooke Durham); and one great grandchild, Brycen Mullins.

Other than her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Foley, and two grandchildren, Jason Mullins and Lorna McBee.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013. Both services will be held at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will in Piney Grove Cemetery.

Martin Eugene “Gene” Myers, 78 of Moreland, formerly of Kokomo, Ind., passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

Born Dec. 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Harold A. Myers and Frances Guy Tritt. He worked 34 years for General Motors as an electrician and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Freida Sheene Myers; three sons, Christopher A. Myers of Ind., Daniel E. Myers of Danville and S. Andrew Myers of Versailles; three daughters, LaRie J. Myers of Indiana, E. Renee Roberts of Oklahoma, and Vanessa E. Litster of Lexington; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, who raised him.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1124 Hustonville St., Liberty. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Moreland Cemetery.

Born Sept. 30, 1976, in Danville, he was a son of Wayne R. and Margaret Phillips. Jeremy was a member of Blue Lick Baptist Church and an avid UK Wildcats and Philadelphia Eagles fan.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his loving wife, Charity Phillips; two children, Kaylie Phillips and Foster Phillips, both of Stanford; his mother-in-law, Jennifer McComas of Crab Orchard; a sister, Crystal Phillips of Stanford; and a brother, Steve Pruitt of Lexington.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Spurlin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Loraine Campbell Potts, age 85, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at Brookwood Retirement Community in Cincinnati. Born Sunday, October 30, 1927 in Wolfe Creek in Perry County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Luther & Lena Eversole Campbell. She was the widow of the late William C. Potts, Jr., who preceded her in death on April 22, 2009. Loraine worked as an Office Manager for the Potts Family Business, and was a homemaker and loving mother. Loraine was a member of the Eastern Star, was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed canning and gardening.

Loraine leaves behind three sons, Dennis L. Potts (Margie) of Cincinnati, Ohio, William Clinton Potts III of Ludlow, Kentucky, and Gary W. Potts (Teresa) of Galveston, Texas; one daughter, Jean Potts Blumer (Philip) of Shalimar, Florida; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Potts of Union, Kentucky; one brother, Bert Campbell (Wilma) of Goshen, Kentucky; sixteen grandchildren, William Clinton Potts IV, Megan Elizabeth Potts, Lauren Christian Potts, Bradley Dennis Potts, Brittany Caitlin Minturn, Brady Kaylen Minturn, Brandon McErlane Minturn, Brett Charles Minturn, Robert Louis Minturn, Jr., Heath Scott Blumer, Erin Nicole Blumer, Jonathan Daniel Potts, Gary Wayne Potts, Jr., Travis Eugene Potts, Morgan Rose Potts, and Taylor Marie Potts; and five great-grandchildren, Oskar, Aidan, Kaylen, Payton, and Lexi.

Rosa Boyd Poynter, 95, of Lancaster, died Sept. 30, 2013, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Ky. She was the widow of John Harmon Poynter. They shared a wonderful marriage for 68 years.

Born in Lincoln County, Rosa was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Addie Troxel Boyd. Rosa retired after many years of nursing at Garrard County Memorial Hospital, worked for Cole Drug Store, and was a member of Lancaster Church of God.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Michael Poynter (Hazel) and Gary Wayne Poynter( Gwen), both of Lancaster; three daughters, Melinda Kathleen Lamb of Stanford and Mary Ellen Rhodus (Bill) and Carolyn Sue Scott, both of Lancaster; a brother, Ray Boyd (Dorothy) of Indianapolis; and two sisters, Emma Jean Baker of Indianapolis, and Nellie Goode of Harrodsburg; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, John Harmon Poynter Jr. and James Logan “Tuck” Poynter; two brothers, Virgal Boyd and Harrison Boyd; and two sisters Margaret Chambers and Etta Mae Williams.

Thomas O.B. Reed, 87, of Hustonville went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013.

Born Jan. 21, 1926, he was the son of the late Tom and Anna Bell Russell Reed. He was a farmer, a member of Slate Hill UMC and a U.S. Army WWII veteran.

He is survived by a daughter, Verla, and son-in-law, Bobby Selch; two grandchildren: Robby (Karen) Selch and Jennifer (Brandon) Sparrow; and a great grandchild, Aunika Selch.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Wayne Cole with burial in Reed Cemetery with military honors.

Cheryl Ann Rickles Saylor, 52, of Crab Orchard, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at her home.

Born Oct. 5, 1960, in Rockcastle County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Ruby Rickles. She was a member of Mount Zion Church of Christ.

Cheryl was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially the grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Truman Saylor of Crab Orchard; three daughters, Sherry Young of Danville, Barb (Ottie) Comley of Stanford and Kandy (Dustin) Miracle of Stanford; two sons, Douglas Saylor (Amanda) and Shawn Saylor (C.J.), both of Crab Orchard; six siblings, Janette, Diane, Will, Martha, Betty and Peggy; and 10 grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her siblings, Bonnie, Larry and Carolyn.

Raymond C. Schrock, 47, of Crab Orchard, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, at his home after a 3 1/2 year battle with sarcoma cancer.

Born in Jamesport, Mo., Raymond was a son of Christy Schrock and the late Edna (Helmuth) Schrock. He married Christine Bontrager in Jamesport, Mo., on March 21, 1991, they lived in matrimony for 22 years and 6 months. They moved to Kentucky almost 17 years ago. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Bontrager Schrock; four sons and three daughters, David Ray and a special friend Lovina Yoder, Mary Ellen married to Ivan Yoder, Katie Marie, John Edward, Floyd Joseph, Perry Lee and Linda Rose all of the home, Crab Orchard; his father and step-mother, Christy and Susie Schrock of Jamesport, Mo.; in-laws, Edward and Mary Bontrager of Jamesport, Mo., three brothers; two sisters; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services were Sept. 23, at the residence in Crab Orchard. Burial was in the Crab Orchard Amish Cemetery.

Lana Kay Cash Shelton, 55, of Crab Orchard, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Born May 31, 1958, in Mt. Vernon, Lana was the daughter of Helen Logsdon Cash of Crab Orchard and the late Granville Cash. She worked as a nurse at the Rockcastle County Hospital and for Dr. Karen Saylor in Mt. Vernon and was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Church of Christ. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and sister.

Other survivors include her husband, Truman Shelton of Crab Orchard, whom she married on April 5, 1975; daughters, Amanda Kay Maddox of Moreland and Jami Susan (Kyle) Oaks of Waynesburg; brothers, Arlis (Alva) Cash and Robert Cash both of Crab Orchard; grandson, Patrick Sheldon Maddox of Moreland; nephews, Allen, Travis, Colby and Hunter Cash; and best friend, Debbie Jasper.

James David Sims, 47, of Stanford, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, after he fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 20, 1966 in Hamilton, Ohio, he was a son of Clinton and Anna Hacker Sims. James was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Waynesburg Masonic Lodge #328 and was a former DeMolay member of the Patriot Country Chapter, Stanford.

Survivors include his parents, Clinton and Anna Hacker Sims of Stanford; a brother, Jeffrey Boyd (Denise) Sims of Fairfield, Ohio; a sister, Karen (Dwayne) Hollon of Lexington; a special cousin, Regina Phillips of Stanford; a niece, Natalie Hollon; four nephews, Clinton Hollon, Aaron Sims, Daniel Sims and Sean Sims; several cousins, aunts and uncles; many friends; and a special granddaughter, Boo.

Phyllis Ann (Calhoun) Smallwood, age 82, of North OK Schuler Road in Waynesburg, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Born Tuesday, August 25, 1931 in Mercer County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Otey & Grace Barger Calhoun. She was the widow of the late Joda “Bert” Smallwood, Jr., who preceded her in death on April 26, 2003. Phyllis worked nine years as a Teacher’s Aide for the Lincoln County School System and was also a homemaker. She attended Parlor Grove Baptist Church, was a former member of the Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary, a 4-H Leader, and past Vice-President of the Waynesburg Elementary PTA. Phyllis was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan.

Phyllis leaves behind two sons, William Joda “Billy” Smallwood (Pam) of Berea and David Adam Smallwood (Christa) of New Albany, Indiana; two daughters, Debra Ann Demrow (Bill) of Waynesburg and Angela Jean Scott of California; seven grandchildren, Katie McLain (Raymond), Tess Smallwood, Hayley Smallwood, Curt Demrow (Jaime), Jenny Maloy (Jimmy), Melanie Heath (Roger), and Jodi Duvall; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, one brother, Cline Calhoun of Eubank; and her special friend, “Zac” the bird.

Madge Louise Stamper, daughter of the late Rufus and Nellie Bitner, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 at the University Heights Health & Living Community in Greenwood, Ind.

She was born on March 22, 1918, in Greene County Tenn., and she was raised in Lincoln County, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Eugene Grant Stamper, and her son, James Freeman Stamper.

She is survived by two sisters, Macy Stonecypher and Gladys Ryan; two children, Donna Kay Smith and Richard Stamper; seven grandchildren, James Stamper, Julie Stamper Phelps, Shawn Richards, Jennifer Hussung, Sheryl Smith, Grant Stamper, and Mathias Stamper; and 13 great-grandchildren, Alison Miller, Hugh Stamper, Henry Stamper, Elizabeth Phelps, Gwyn Phelps, Bailey Julian, David Richards, Kaitlynn Richards, Austin Taylor, Garrett Taylor, Nathan Taylor, Ally Hussung, and Kenna Hussung.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg, Ky. at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30.

MARY BELLE TINCHER, 84, Meadowbrook Avenue, Orlando, died Tuesday, March 14. Mrs. Tincher was the retired owner of a service station. Born in Crab Orchard, Ky., she moved to Central Florida in 1975. Bertha Wall Whitaker, 66, of Tibbs Lane, Danville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Georgia.

Born Saturday, July 12, 1947, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Elsie Marcella Dunaway Wall and Ervin D. Wall. Her loving husband is Bill Whitaker of Danville, whom she wed on June 25, 1998. Bertha retired from Farmer’s National Bank, where she worked many years in the real estate lending department. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Garrard County, where she served as pianist and leader of the church choir. She was an avid listener of gospel music and was a talented pianist for many years. Bertha loved flowers and would grow beautiful flower gardens each year.

In addition to her husband, Bertha leaves behind three sons, Michael Jay Whitaker of Danville, William Douglas Whitaker of Tokyo, Japan, and Jerald Cash Whitaker of Danville; a sister, Janet Perry (Marvin) of Walltown; two grandchildren, Joseph and Jessie Whitaker, both of Danville; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Barber (Tim) of Kings Mountain, Rachael Leann Emerson of Louisville and Abigail Lauren Emerson of Walltown; a great-great grandson, Timothy John Barber of Kings Mountain; and a nephew, Robert Perry (Carla) of Salvisa.
