Sue Adams, age 66, of Rolling Meadows Drive in Stanford, passed away peacefully
Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in
Danville. Born Thursday,
May 29, 1947 in Danville, she was the daughter of Marvin Wesley Gooch of Kings
Mountain and the late Edath Robertson Gooch.
Throughout her career, she worked as the Director of
Operations at Adanta Services in Somerset.
Linda was a member of Faith Church in Danville, taught pre-school Sunday
School class for many years, and loved helping out at the soup kitchen in
Danville.
In
addition to her father, Linda leaves behind one daughter, Kristina Clay (Michael
Greenday) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one brother, Gilbert Gooch (Tootsie) of
Kings Mountain; one sister,
Joy Vanhook of Hustonville; a host of nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog,
Jake.
A
Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Friday, February 7, 2014 at Fox Funeral
Home with Bro. Josh Vanhook & Bro. Jay Adkins officiating the service.
Burial will follow in
K.P. Hall Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
Doug Gooch, John Gooch, Wendell Gooch, Jeremy Vanhook, Ron Robertson,

Bernice
Bates, age 66, of Oak Drive in Waynesburg, passed away peacefully Saturday,
January 25, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Born Monday, July 14, 1947
in Letcher County, she was the daughter of Martha Caudill Fields of Waynesburg
and the late Lee Fields. Her loving
husband is Ronnie Bates of Waynesburg, whom she wed
April 15, 1967. Bernice worked for
over 25 years as the US Postmaster for Waynesburg and retired the Perryville
Post Office. After retirement, she
devoted her life to her grandchildren.
She was a Co-Founder of the Waynesburg Pioneer Days and attended Rose of Sharon
Old Regular Baptist Church.
In
addition to her husband and mother, Bernice leaves behind four daughters,
Shelley McGuffey (Scott) of Waynesburg, April Slone (Jason) of Waynesburg,
Brandy
Cotton (Greg) of Danville, and Trista Elkins (Daniel) of Waynesburg; one
brother, Larry Fields (Judy) of Richmond; one sister, Evelyn Louise Pentzien
(Roger) of
Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Hiram Fields.
A

Donald
Belcher, 74, of Crab Orchard, passed away on Wednesday, February 5th, at the
Rockcastle County Hospital in Mount Vernon. Donald was born in the Copper
Creek Community in Rockcastle County on September 16, 1939. He was the son of
the late David and Lou Vena Wilmot Belcher. He had previously worked for Angel
Manufacturing in Stanford and was a life long farmer. Donald was a veteran of
the United States Navy.
Survivors
include; 4 brothers; Earl Belcher (JoAnne) of Harrodsburg, Jim Belcher (Leona of
Lancaster, Bobby Belcher (Marty) of Vacaville, CA, and George Belcher of Crab
Orchard,
4 sisters; Roberta Singleton (Bob) of West Chester, Ohio, Virginia Harness
(Harold) of Crab Orchard, Beulah Pearce of West Chester, Ohio, Mary Jane Belcher
of Crab Orchard,
sisters-in-law, Sue Belcher & Pam Belcher Conley, several nieces &
nephews and many friends also survive.
In
addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by brother, Bill &
Gerald Belcher and a niece Jennifer, Singleton.

Harris Creek Baptist Church in Moreland.
Survivors include her husband of 59
years, Marty Brannagan of Stanford; a daughter, Deborah Rich of Stanford; and

Walter Dean Rich and Marty Davis.

Sailer Brock. Ledford joins his
beloved wife, Nancy Lou [Kreeger] Brock,
and two sons, Tedford & Randy [Radford] Brock.
Ledford
leaves behind four sons, Clifford Brock of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bradford
Brock of Hustonville, Alford Brock of Baldwin, Michigan, Ledford Junior Brock of
Baldwin, Michigan; two daughters, LouAnn Burchfield of Norwalk, Ohio, and Teresa
Dunn of Wakeman, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great grandchild; and a special granddaughter and caregiver, Jessica
Plummer and husband Billy of Waynesburg. Fly

and the late Omer Atwood. She was
the loving wife of Mike Buell of Lexington, whom she wed

of Bluegrass Baptist Church. Linda was a homemaker and loved to sew, quilt, paint old
saws, and make dream catchers.
In
addition to her husband and mother, Linda leaves behind one son, Corie Everhart
of Lexington; four brothers, Russell Atwood (Chris) of Shreveport, Louisiana,
Omer Atwood (Melissa)

Jan. 3, 1930, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Alford and Ida Bell
Lane Coffman, and also was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Richards
Coffman. He was a
member of Salt River Baptist Church and was a farmer for Howard and Sonny Hunt
Survivors
include a brother, Kenneth (Wilma) Coffman of Danville; and several nieces and
nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Jim and Bill
Coffman;
and three sisters, Gertrude Baugh, Sadie Coffman and Hazel Hampton.

He

Robert Pence Gaines, 63, of Danville,
KY passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, KY.
Born December 2, 1950 in Stanford, KY to the
late Benjamin and Anne Pence Gaines, he worked for his parents at Gaines
Furniture Store in Stanford for many years before moving to Florida. Robert
enjoyed helping others any
way he could and worked as a volunteer for various organizations in his
community. He was also a member of the Methodist Faith.
Survivors include one brother: Ben
Gaines (Linda) of Danville, KY and one sister: Nancy Sue Hammel of Tampa, FL. He
was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside memorial service has been
scheduled for 1:30pm Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Buffalo Springs Cemetery
in Stanford, KY with Reverend Barry Delaney officiating.

the late Hassell & Della Falconbury Reece.
She was the widow
of the late Connie Gourley, who preceded her in death April 18, 1990.
Elwanda was a homemaker, member of Mt. Moriah Christian Church, and a
member of the Eastern Star #501.
When she was younger, she sang in The Gospel Harmony Quartet.
Elwanda
leaves behind one son, Gerald H. Douglas of Stanford; one daughter, Brenda
Merchant (Todd) of Bagdad, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Donna Douglas
(David Wilmot),
Jeff Douglas (Michelle), Rene Roberts, Gary Kenneth Douglas, Jr. (Jessica),

November 27, 1922 in Somerset, KY to the late Dooley and Lola
Scales Lyons, she was the widow of the late Delinie Henderson, she was a retired
employee of Corning, Inc., and she was member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons: Rual
Henderson (Betty) of Stanford, KY, and Rudy Henderson (Pam) of Danville, KY,
three daughters: Elgene Caudill (Nelson) of Lancaster, KY,
Joyce Simpson (Loren) of Crab Orchard, KY, and Melissa Rice (Danie, Jr.) of
Waynesburg, KY, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, seven
great-great-grandchildren,
and five nieces. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Orville, Arnold,
and Bill Lyons, and two sisters: Exie Jasper and Rella Lyons.
A one day service will be held at
Fairview Baptist Church in Waynesburg, KY on Thursday, January 9, 2014.
Visitation will be from 10am-2pm and funeral service will begin at
2pm with Reverends Johnny Baker and Gary King officiating. Burial will be at Fairview
Baptist Church Cemetery. Casket bearers are: Danie Rice, Scott Young, David

Hibbard, age 71, of North Fishing Creek Road in Kings Mountain, passed away
Sunday, February 2, 2014 at his residence.
Born Friday, April 3, 1942 in Knox County, he was the son of the late
Willie & Victoria Stewart Hibbard. His
loving wife is Jane McFalls Hibbard of Kings Mountain, whom he wed May 28, 1977.
Art worked as a Home Care Aide for the Lincoln County Senior Citizens
Center for over 25 years and was a member of the Waynesburg Rescue Squad.
He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, was known for helping
others, loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and
was a bird watcher.
In
addition to his wife, Art leaves behind one daughter, Lisa Fletcher (Larry) of
Stanford; eight brothers, Willie Hibbard, Jr., Otis Hibbard, and Ralph Hibbard
all of Indiana, Dennis Hibbard of Barbourville, Vernon Hibbard of LaGrange,
Robert McFalls (Terry Adams) of Lexington, Wayne McFalls of Kings Mountain, and
Jerry McFalls (Lynn) of Waynesburg; one sister, Allene Mills of Indiana; two
grandchildren, Joshua Lee Ingram (Amber) of Kings Mountain and Dustin Ingram

Hoover, 73, of Brodhead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at his
residence.
He was born in Kings Mt.,
Kentucky on October 27, 1940, son of the late Marshall and Allie (Ida) Martin Hoover. He was a veteran of the Korean war, serving in
the U.S. Air Force.
He was a retired trim carpenter and craftsman of all trade. He wrote songs,
music and poetry of all kinds and could play any musical instruments he wanted.
He was president of foster
parents for a few years. He loved riding his Harley Davidson and showing it and
also loved flying airplanes. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife
of 43 years, Shirley Pence Hoover, whom he married on August 20, 1970, one
daughter, Shena Hensley and two granddaughters, Latosha and Cheyene
Hensley. He loved all of them very much.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and one sister, Beulah Hoover.
A funeral service will be
held at 1 PM Friday, December 13, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with
Bro. Slade Moore officiating.
Burial will be in Etna

Walter Edward Manuel, 78 of Stanford, KY passed away Tuesday, January
14th, in Stanford from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Walter
was born in Lincoln County on
November 27, 1935. He was the son of the late Eph and Viola Spears Manuel.
Walter was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the
Korean War and he was a
member of the VFW. Walter was also a member of the American Legion Post #345 of
Stanford. He was a former employee of BPI and the City of Stanford. Walter also
served as the
former Fire Chief of Stanford for many years.
Survivors include his son, Clarence (Kay) Manuel of Stanford, two sisters,
Vicky Singleton & Birdie Miracle, two Grandchildren, Joshua McQade Manuel
& Jaclynn Dove Manel and
one Great Grandchild, Juliete Lee Brummett.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by two brother,

Vell Oaks Pence. He was a member of Mount Zion Church of Christ and was a
veteran of the
United States Army, having served during World War II. Sammie worked most of his
life as a dairy farmer and enjoyed being outdoors on his land. He loved to hunt,
was
an avid Kentucky basketball fan and enjoyed watching baseball. Sammie was a
loving a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather

passed away Thursday, February 20th, at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in
Louisville. Beulah was
born in Crab Orchard, KY on December 19, 1914, to the late John Francis
and Lillie (McBee) Bordes. Beulah had attended the Langley High School in
Rockcastle County and
had been the last know surviving classmate of the school. She had worked as a
nurses assistant for the Louisville Baptist East Hospital and she was a member
of the South Louisville Christian Church.
Survivors include her six children; Jimmy of Washington, Edward of
Shepherdsille, KY , Joyce of Greer Co. S.C, Bruce of Indianapolis, IN , John of
Terre Haute, IN and
Mary Jo of Trinity, FL., 17 Grandchildren & 22 Great Grandchildren.

08, 1928 – January 11, 2014 Leo Ray Rigney began his life’s journey in
Lincoln County, Kentucky. He was
the youngest child of Virgil and Viola Reynolds Rigney.
He joined a brother, Freeman Rigney (now deceased) and a sister, Fern Rigney
Bennett (now deceased). He married
Orlena Lee Boyd and to this union was born a daughter,
Barbara Ann Rigney Guinn (Roy). After
thirty years of marriage, our Lord and Savior called Orlena home.
Leo
later married Ruby Todd, widow of Robert Todd.
Ruby was the mother of three sons, Mark Todd (Patrice). Robbie Todd
(Tonya) and Paul Todd (Bonnie) all of Stanford.
Leo
lived a full and influential life. He
served on the Fort Logan Hospital Board for thirty eight years.
He helped to start the Waynesburg Fire Department as well as the
Waynesburg Area Rescue Squad. He
worked at Wheeldon’s General Store for a number of years prior to taking a
position at the Lincoln County National Bank.
He left the bank to help his father-in-law barber in Eubank, Kentucky.
After several years of barbering he joined the work force of Rexnord/Matthews
in Danville, Kentucky where he retired in 1990.
He
enjoyed to the fullest the years of retirement, staying busy serving his Lord.
He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church where he served as a
Deacon for sixty
one years and as a Sunday School Teacher for fifty plus years.
He served the Lord and his community well and never met a stranger.
In
addition to the afore mentioned family members, he leaves behind eleven
grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins as well as
a host of friends.
Leo
had a heart for children and youth, therefore the family requests that in lieu
of flowers, please make a donation to the Double Springs Baptist Youth building
fund. This would serve as
a lasting tribute to his legacy. Leo’s
85 year earthly life journey ended on January 11, 2014 surrounded by his family.

Carl “GG” Smith, age 46, of Danville Avenue in Stanford, passed away Friday,
January 24, 2014 at his residence. Born
Thursday, July 6, 1967 in Lincoln County,
he was the son of Barbara Greer Willoughby (Doug) of Stanford and the late
Grover Cleveland “Gizzie” Smith III. GG
was a 1985 Graduate of Lincoln County High School and
worked as a truck driver. In his
spare time, he enjoyed fishing. We
was of the Baptist faith.
In
addition to his mother and step-father, GG leaves behind three sons, Jeremy
Smith (Genna) of Moreland, and Jerry & Zhack Prater both of Waco; four
daughters, Victoria
Smith of Stanford, Shelby Smith of Liberty, and Emmalee Muncy and Barbara Ellen
Smith both of Waco; one sister, Lori Ann Shadduck (JD) of Concord, North
Carolina; and
four grandchildren, Addie, Price, Reed, and Liam.
A
Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM Monday, January 27, 2014 at Fox Funeral Home
with Bro. Gerald Sims officiating the service.
Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Woman Dies in West End.
Mrs.
J. T. Sutton died at her home at Hustonville Sunday night at ten o'clock after a
lengthy illness of cancer of the stomach. The deceased was a good Christian
woman and
will be greatly missed by those who knew her. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs.
Sutton had charge of the toll gate out on Hustonville pike near Stanford, and
made many friends,
who will regret very much to learn of her death.
Besides her husband she leaves two sons, Mack Sutton, of the West, and Coleman
Sutton, of New Castle, Ind., who was at her bedside when the end came. The
remains
were interred in the Hustonville cemetery this afternoon at 2:30.

Evelyn
Jenkins Correll Terry, age 81, of Old South Fork Road in Kings Mountain, passed
away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at her residence.
She was born in Lincoln County on Saturday,
March 12, 1932 to the late William H. and Myrtle Sims Jenkins.
She was the widower of Hubert Correll (29 years) and Ronald Terry (34
years). She was a member of
Pleasant Point Baptist
Church, where she sang in the choir. She
was also the Past Matron for the Eastern Star #501 and was a caregiver for her
mother and sister for many years. Evelyn worked at Palm Beach,
Cowdens, and sold lingerie.
Survivors
include two children, Kenneth Correll (Jackie) of Kings Mountain and Connie
Waldroup (Carl) of Stanford; four grandchildren, Doug Waldroup (Mandy) of
Eubank, Brian Correll
(Trish) of Kings Mountain, Donna Henderson (Joey) of Stanford, and Richard
Correll (Brandy) of Kings Mountain; seven great-grandchildren, Blake Henderson,
Hunter Waldroup, Ashley, Judea,
and Riley Correll, Ciera Rowe, and Tristan Hess, two sisters, Mae Todd of
Stanford and Ethelene Johnson of Ohio; one brother,
William
“Jr” Jenkins (Sue) of Nicholasville; two step-daughters, Tina Adams of
Stanford and Brenda Terry of Lexington; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In
addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter,
Virginia Lee Correll; one sister, Geneva Jenkins Hughes; and one brother, Otis
Jenkins.
The
Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Friday, January 24, 2014 at Pleasant Point
Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Rhodus and Bro. Ed Bray officiating the service.
Burial will follow in
Pleasant Point Cemetery. Pallbearers

Benjamin Franklin Vest, Sr, 87, died
Sunday, January 26, 2014. Born May 14, 1926 in Kings Mountain, he was the son of
the late Ottie and Edna Gooch Vest. He retired after 40 years
at Palm Beach Company. Ben was a gentle, loving man who never said a derogatory
word about anyone. He always told the cook that the food served him was the best
he'd ever had.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Manning Vest and a brother, Jim Vest.
He is survived by two sons, Ben (Joyce)
Vest Jr. and Sam (Debby) Vest, both of Danville; two sisters, Anna Campbell of
Lexington and Christine Lay of St. Cloud Florida.; three
grandchildren, Dawn (Mike) Semones, Scotty (Betty) Vest and Cody Vest; five
great grandchildren, Ayden Vest, Austin Vest, Chase Semones, Dustin and Josh
Summers and one
great-great grandson, Stathem Summers.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m.,
Thursday at Stith Funeral Home. Rev Barry Harmon will officiate. Burial will be
in Bellevue Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scotty Vest, Cody Vest, Mike

He was born in Dayton, Ohio
on October 2, 1951, son of the late Lawrence and Lucy Juanita Whitter Warren. He
worked in the car business and was a member of Victory Christian Church.
He was a member of the Mt. Gilead Masonic Lodge and the Waynesburg Volunteer
Rescue Squad.
He is survived by his wife,
Fanny Eoff Warren of Eubank, one daughter, Tiffany Ann Warren of Eubank, two
brothers, Larry & (Vickie) Warren of Somerset and Carl & (Teresa) Warren
of Eubank.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and one sister, Brenda Warren.
A funeral service will be
held at 2 PM Friday, January 3, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with

Edward "Whitey" Whitis, 76, died Thursday.
Born
Feb. 10, 1937, he was the son of the late Minifee & Lillie Harper Whitis.
He
retired as the Lincoln County dog warden and was manager of Bluegrass Motel.
Survivors
include a son, Eddy Whitis of Stanford, four daughters, Fonda Renner of
Danville, LaDonna Boswell of Stanford, Tish Traughber of Tennessee, and Missy
Hughes of Junction City;
three brothers, Everett, Wayne and Junior Whitis,; four sisters, Jessie Poynter,
Eveleen Phelps Douglas, JoAnne New and Betty Lou Weatherford; 12 grandchildren;
and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stanford Baptist Church. Visitation is 5- 9
p.m. Friday at Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford.
