Edna L. Adams, 74, of Eaton, formerly of West Manchester, died Tuesday, May 12, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton.

Born April 7, 1924, in Stanford, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Alva and Myrtle (Mullins) Padgett, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She had been a janitor at Dayton Flexible Corp., retiring in 1986 after 19 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Fugate of West Alexandria; one son, Landis Eldridge of West Manchester; two grandsons, Joseph Fugate and David Fugate; a step-granddaughter, Tracy Tackett; a half sister, Marie Cress of Stanford, Ky.; a half brother, Leman Padgett of Stanford, Ky.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Wayne Eldridge; two brothers, Sherman Padgett and Alva Padgett; and a half brother, Raymond Padgett.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 14, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Michael Chapel, West Manchester, with the Rev. Sherman L. Padgett officiating. Burial was in Twin Creek Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester.

Ethro "Pete" "Pee Wee" ADAMS, age 60 of Hamilton, died Saturday, October 14, 2006 in Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born in Crab Orchard, (Lincoln County), Kentucky, on March 15, 1946, the son of Arnold and Beatrice (Bray) Adams. He had worked as a maintenance lineman for Cadillac Motors in Detroit, Michigan, and relocated back to Hamilton, where he was a self-employed siding installer.

Survivors include his daughter, April Adams; a granddaughter, Olivia; two sisters, Patricia (Wayne) Baker, and Darlene (William "Pete") Sharp, both of Hamilton; many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents in 1984; two brothers, Terry Adams in 1994, Arnold Adams in 2005; three sisters, Juanita Saylor in 1982, Audrey Smith in 1993, and Dorothy Miller in 1999. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., with Rev. Ron Becknell officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M.-2:00 P.M. STANFORD - Services for Pina E. Payton Adams, 89, of Greenfield, Ind., formerly of Lincoln County, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by Wayne Galloway. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Born April 13, 1917, in Liberty, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Belle Sears Payton. She was a former employee of Cree-Mee Restaurant and a member of First Church of God.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Adams of Indianapolis; two daughters, Annie Watkins of Greenfield and Marie Eversole of Norwood, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Harley and Michael Adams. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Glenda Elizabeth Blankenship Anderson, 84, Texas School Road, Eubank, Ky., died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Somerset.

She was born July 1, 1922 in Bandy, Ky., to the late Chester and Bessie Ernest Eubank Blankenship. She was a retired Postmaster. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Allen (and Patti) Anderson, Eubank; two daughters, Sue Bullock, Somerset, and Debbie Mounce, Eubank; a brother, Henry (and Audrey) Blankenship, Crab Orchard, Ky.; five grandsons, Barry (and Brenda) Bullock, Jamie (and Vicki) Mounce, Brad (and Mary Kay) Mounce, Jon (and Mary) Anderson, Josh (and Heather) Anderson; and four great-grandchildren, Ashlee Mounce, Barron Bullock, Kaylie Bullock and Aaron Moran.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Ed Anderson, who died October. 6, 2001; a brother, Isaac (and Bernice) Blankenship; and a sister, Gladys Coleman.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, with Bro. Roy Vincent, Bro, Kyle Rader, and Bro. Phil Fisher officiating.

Burial will be at Woodstock Cemetery.

STANFORD - Services for Leon E. Baker Jr., 53, of Crab Orchard, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Community Worship Church of God by Noah Hendrickson and Ira Miller. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born March 16, 1953, in Elyria, Ohio, he was a son of Emma J. Moore-Wilson of Crab Orchard and the late Leon Baker Sr. He was a member of Church of God.

Survivors include a brother, Eddy L. Baker of Crab Orchard; and a sister, Robin Booth of Somerset.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Baker Sr., Eddy Baker Jr., John, Royce, James, Billy and Steve Hendrickson and Keith Asher. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Buchanan, David Hendrickson, Terry Simpson, Larry Nicely, Dallas Wilson and Dale Hendrickson.

Born July 18, 1953, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Carroll and Anna Mae Griffin Berry. He was a mechanic and attended Neals Creek Church.

Survivors include a son, Christopher Brock of Stanford; two daughters, Connie Gooch and Kathy Gaines, both of Stanford; three brothers, Bobby, Jimmy and Michael Berry, all of Stanford; two sisters, Joann Elliott and Patsy Phillips, both of Stanford; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny B. Berry.

Services for Sarah Elizabeth Bolton, 4-month-old daughter of Johnny and Kathy Wessling Bolton of Nicholasville, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Nicholasville by the Rev. Jim Lyons. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Born Jan. 27, 1908, in Letcher County, she was a daughter of the late Henry C. and Nancy Jane Fields Whitaker. She was a homemaker and caregiver, a member of Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church and a founding member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Paul R. Adams of Eubank; two daughters, Geraldine Davis of Muncie, Ind., and Louise Blair of Springboro, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home.

CRAB ORCHARD - Lowell Wayne Broughton, 59, of Burgin, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Friday at his home.

Born Dec. 17, 1946, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Cecil and Clara Reynolds Broughton. He was a cemetery maintenance worker for McKnight Funeral Home and a member of Ottawa Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran who earned a national defense service medal.

Survivors include three daughters, Pam Monroe of Burgin, Kim Broughton of Danville and Tina Woodward of Harrodsburg; six brothers, Kenneth Broughton of Hebron, Robert and Bill Broughton, both of Brodhead, Ben Broughton of Columbus, Ind., and Noah and Charles Broughton, both of Crab Orchard; a sister, Helen Petrey of Lancaster; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church, Ky. 328 , Pulaski County. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers include Danny Stevens, and David, Coy, Mike, Steve and Doug Broughton.

Honorary pallbearers are nieces, Lonnie and Roger Broughton, Jeff Mullins and Jimmy Campbell.

Born Nov. 10, 1916, in Letcher County, he was the son of the late Silas and Nancy Caudill. He was a member of Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Back Caudill; four sons, William R. Caudill of Evansville, Ind., Roy and Phillip Caudill, both of Waynesburg, and Roger D. Caudill of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Barbara J. Baker of Arkadelphia, Ark., Linda Leach of Waynesburg, and Sheila Jenkins and Dana S. Padgett, both of Nicholasville; a sister, Cuma Phillips of Elwood, Ind.; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.Visitation was Saturday.

Born April 25, 1935, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Virgil and Earsie Brown Coleman. He was a retired employee of Penn Ventilation Co. after working 22 years as a sheet metal worker. He was the widower of Mildred Humphrey Coleman.

Survivors include a son, Randy Coleman of Stanford; three daughters, Joyce Gooch of Stanford, Rhonda Yocum of Crab Orchard and Melissa Napier of Stanford; a brother, Floyd Coleman of McKinney; two sisters, Anna Lee Griffin of Waynesburg and Violett Kidd of Stanford; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Curtis, Gerald and Michael Coleman.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Temple Church of God in Jesus Name by Roger Stevens. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

STANFORD - Edna Crowley, 88, of Stanford, died Monday at Stanford Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born April 2, 1918, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late William and Maggie Bell Naylor. She was an employee of Palm Beach Co. and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Frank and Jack Crowley, both of Stanford; a daughter, Wanda Owens of Stanford; a sister, Ida Hurst of Stanford; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Gary King. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.

LIBERTY - Virginia Louise Dando, 85, of Conner Street died Friday at the Casey County Hospital.

Born July 8, 1918, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Lace and Mary Lou C. Dunagan and the widow of John J. "Jack" Dando.

She was a retired elementary school teacher and member of Liberty First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Johnnie Dando of Liberty; a daughter, Linda Dando Lee of Liberty; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. today at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation is after 8 a.m. today.

WAYNESBURG - Services for Sandra Dickhaus, 39, of Waynesburg, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by Hillard Foster. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

Born Jan. 14, 1967, in Hamilton County, Ohio, she was a daughter of Elmer L. and June Gastineau Dickhaus of Waynesburg. She was an employee of Wal-Mart of Somerset and Eubank Pizza, as well as having worked at Oran's in Eubank for 19 years.

Other survivors include three brothers, Robert Dickhaus of Eubank, Richard Dickhaus of Crittenden and Paul Dickhaus of Berea; three sisters, Diann Mounce of Eubank, Brenda Denny of Willisburg and Cindy Vaught of Eubank.

Somerset — Eileen Edna Rayne Flora, 84, Salisbury, New Hampshire, died May 12, 2006, at Franklin Regional Hospital.

Born April 16, 1922, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Alice Nash Rayne. After growing up in Queens, N.Y., she graduated from Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and later specialized as an operating room nurse. She lived in New Hyde Park, N.Y., for 31 years before moving to N.H. in 1983. She was of the Roman Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bruno Floro. Survivors include her daughter, Eileen P. (and Fred) Richardson of Salisbury N.H.; two sons, Robert J. (and Karen) Floro of Danville, Ky. and Thomas G. (and Jane) Floro of Somerset, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Robert (and Sherri) Richardson of Rockland, Pa., Dana Floro of Richmond, Ky., Tony (and Jessica) and Mike Floro of Moreland, Ky., Chris (and Elaine) Floro of Somerset, Ky., Suzanne (and Chris) Coulombe of Andover, NH and Meghan Richardson of Salisbury, NH; and six great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jonathan Richardson and Samantha, Allison, Gabriel and Isabella Floro.

MORELAND - Ocie Cannon Frost, 89, of Liberty, died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 21, 1917, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Andie and Ollie May Woodrum Cannon. She worked in retail at Liberty Five and Dime and Frost and Lynn Dry Goods in Hustonville. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church and the widow of Joseph R. "Jack" Frost.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Judy C. Frost of Hustonville; a brother, Rollan Cannon of Liberty; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. James Lynn. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Cannon, Danny and Ronnie Atwood, Jeff and Todd Frost, and David Smithers. Honorary pallbearer is Gary Lynn.

Roxie Padgett Gastineau, 68, Burdine Street, Somerset, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, January 27th, 2004 at her residence.

She was born March 12th, 1935 in Waynesburg, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Vernie Padgett and Ruth Jacobs Padgett.

She was a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter; Pamela Gastineau, Somerset, Kentucky: for brothers; Elgie Padgett, Eubank, Kentucky, Stanley Padgett, Somerset, Kentucky, Jackie Padgett, Waynesburg, Kentucky and J. W. Padgett, Wisconsin: two sisters; Christine Eads, Somerset, Kentucky and Versie Teschindorf, Port Huron, Michigan.

She is preceded in death by her parents: her husband; Willard Gastineau. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 20th, 2004 at the Chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home with Brother John Silvers officiating. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery, Waynesburg, Kentucky

STANFORD - Margaret Ellen Johnson Goens, 80, of Waynesburg, died Wednesday at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born Feb. 9, 1926, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late William and Addie Porter Johnson. She was an employee of Cowden Manufacturing Co. for 17 years and a member of Gilbert's Creek Baptist Church. She was the widow of Eugene Goens.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia "Ginny" Leach of Kings Mountain and Nancy Russell of Waynesburg; two brothers, Junior Johnson of Lancaster and Cecil Johnson of Crab Orchard; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Gene Goens.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.

STANFORD - Services for Louie Gooch, 86, of Kings Mountain, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Vola Brown. Burial will be in Pleasant Point Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18.

Born Oct. 3, 1919, in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Letha Johnson Gooch. He was a retired farmer, a World War II veteran, a Purple Heart recipient and member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Addington Gooch; two sons, Kenneth Gooch Sr. of Kings Mountain and Dean Gooch of Danville; a daughter, Sandra Powers of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and six step-great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vida J. Gooch. Pallbearers will be Troy Gooch, Kenneth Gooch Jr., William Davidson Jr., Jason Mounce, Terry Sutton, Charles Stull and Richard Powers. Lillian Goode, 99, of Blue Lick Road, Stanford, died Monday at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born Nov. 7, 1906, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Bud and Louvinna Masterson. She was a homemaker, a member of Bethel AME Church, Boneyville, and the widow of Thomas Goode.

Survivors include three daughters, Lucille Helm, Mary T. Simpson and Alene Wilkinson, all of Stanford; 21 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 63 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethel AME Church by Dana Dawkins and Oliver Miller Jr. Burial will be in Goode Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Coulter, Billy Masterson, Kenneth Gooch, Mark Gooch, John Routt and Herbert Simpson. Honorary pallbearers are Ernest Gooch, Clarence Gooch, Albert Gooch and Robert Gooch.

STANFORD - Graveside services for Rowena Eakin Hart, 82, of Ridgeway Drive, were today at Buffalo Springs Cemetery by the Rev. Richard Reed.

Born May 10, 1924, in Shelbyville, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Deery and Cary Allmond Eakin. She was a member of Stanford Christian Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, W. Guy Hart Sr.; three sons, W. Guy Hart Jr. of Frankfort and Ewing Hart and Ward Hart, both of Stanford; two daughters, Susan Reed of Elizabethtown and Emily Smith of Vine Grove; a sister, Milbrey Eakin of Shelbyville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

CRAB ORCHARD - Sonja Kay Howard Hooker, 67, of Sharonville, Ohio, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Thursday in Cincinnati.

Born Nov. 27, 1938, in Harlan, she was the daughter of the late Hamp and Jessie Rogers Howard. She was a clerk for Proctor & Gamble and a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Hooker; three sons, Don Hooker of Columbus, Ohio; and Kevin and Scott Hooker, both of Cincinnati; a daughter, Karen Hooker of Cincinnati; three sisters, Alice Whitehead of Lexington, Erna Albright of Crab Orchard and Sheryll Goodwin of Stanford; a brother, Jimmy W. Howard of Crab Orchard; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey L. Hooker.

Lema Alberta Hoseclaw, 83, Holtzclaw Road, Eubank, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at Stanford Health and Rehabilitation in Stanford.

Born June 8, 1923, in Eubank, she was the daughter of Robert A. and Maudie May Estes Blevins. She was retired from Cowdens of Stanford after 25 years’ employment and of the Christian faith.

WAYNESBURG - Annie Stephens Leach, 89, of Kings Mountain, died Saturday in Kings Mountain.

Born Oct. 22, 1917, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Quincy C. and Ida Carman Stephens. She was retired after teaching 36 years in Casey and Lincoln counties and at Kings Mountain Elementary School for 31 years.

She was a member of Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. She also was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher.

She was a 4-H community leader and a charter member of Order of Eastern Star of Waynesburg. She was the widow of Dory Hollis Leach. Survivors include a son, Gaylon Leach of Waynesburg; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a retired district sales manager for Moorman Manufacturing, former dealer for Townsend Livestock Equipment Sales, former employee of H & D Auction Company in Elizabethtown and Lee Realty in Magnolia, owner and operator of Magnolia Sales, a Christian, a Kentucky Colonel, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Emma Davis May; three sisters, Margaret May, Mable May, and Verna May; and three brothers, Johnny May, Vernon May, and Marvin May.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Ray May; a daughter, Diane M. (Evan) Smith of Berea; four sons, Kenneth E. (Lisa) May, Jr. of Eubank, Douglas A. (Kim) May of Waynesburg, Larry T. CRAB ORCHARD - Elbert Douglas "Doug" Murphy, 46, of Crab Orchard, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born July 20, 1960, in Garrard County, he was the son of Flossie Mae Lear Murphy of Crab Orchard and the late Alvin Murphy. He attended Harmons Lick Church of God.

WAYNESBURG - Sarah J. Naegele, 92, of Brodhead, died Saturday at Rockcastle County Hospital.

Born June 30, 1914, in Letcher County, she was the daughter of the late Basil and Rebecca Adams Caudill. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in McWhaty. She was the widow of Paul Naegele.

Stanley Ray Padgett, 50, of Stamping Ground, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Warren G. Parker, 85, of Cincinnati, OH., died Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Hospice of Cincinnati.

A native of Tazewell, TN., he was born Oct. 26, 1920 to the late Milton K. Parker and Margaret Seals. He retired in 1986 from Southern Ohio Fabricators in Woodlawn, OH., and served in the military at HQ and HQ Squadron 313th Bombardment Wing and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Parker; and half sisters, Margaret Parker Young and Clautee Parker Langdon.

Born Dec. 5, 1926, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Minnie Wilson Eggart. She was a member of Green River Pentecostal Church and worked for Peck's Cleaners and Laundry for 25 years. She was the widow of James S. Peck.

Malcolm "Mac" Poston, 75, of Seville, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Lodi Community Hospital, following a period of declining health.
He was born July 25, 1924, in Moreland, Ky., to Earnie and Lennie (Flannery) Poston. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in Brook Park, after 30 years of service. He also worked at Medina General Hospital for 17 years as a volunteer and as a lieutenant for Buckeye Security at the hospital. Mr. Poston enjoyed harness racing and operated a public stable for standardbreds for 20 years. He raced at Painesville, Grandview, Northfield and many county fairs. Mr. Poston was a member of First Baptist Church of Medina.
He is survived by his wife, Frances "Jean" (nee Keathley) of Seville, whom he married Oct. 19, 1946; daughter, Beverly (Phillip) Williams of Medina; mother, Lennie Poston of Morehead; brothers, Bill, Jim and Lilbern Poston, all of Morehead, and Donald Poston of Mexico; sisters, Mary Jo Jessee, Deloris Durhan, Mercedis Ruth Glover and Karen Poston, all of Morehead, Ky., and Sue Miller of Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earnie; and sister, Pansy Pitts.

Born June 30, 1917, in Kings Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Willie Johnson Hasty. She was a retried merchant, a member of Charity Baptist Church and the widow of Jerry M. Putteet.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan J. Patterson of Columbia; a son, Jerry M. Putteet Jr. of Columbia; a sister, Helen Miller of Waynesburg; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Thurman.

Somerset — Melvin Vernon “Smiley” Ragle, 67, Somerset, formerly of the Bronston community, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Born Oct. 16, 1938, in Crab Orchard, he was a son of the late Vernon and Katie Bunch Ragle. He was self-employed and attended The Rock Worship Center in Somerset.

Survivors include three brothers, Harold Ragle, Somerset, John Ivine Ragle, Corbin, and Junior Ragle, Bronston; four sisters, Frances Troxtell, Ferguson, Betty Hughes, Bronston, Debbie Carrender, Burnside, and Kathy McMullin, of the Slate Branch community; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rosealena Ragle, who died Oct. 28, 2005; his parents; and a sister, Norma Ruth Ragle.

Born May 24, 1927, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Curtis and Gertie Morgan Greer. She was a housekeeper, member of Pilot Baptist Church in Eubank and widow of Lewis A. Williams and Odus Reynolds.

Claude L. Rhodus, 68, Waynesburg, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at his residence.

He was born in Kirksville, Ky., Sept. 23, 1927, son of the late Claude and Louvena Smith Rhodus. He as a U.S. Army veteran, a soil technician for the USDA Soil Conservation Service for 30 years and a member of Eubank Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Oleta Conley Rhodus, Waynesburg; a son, Lewis Franklin (and Melanie) Rhodus, Waynesburg; a daughter, Luvena (and Scott) Walker, Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Charles Rhodus, Hillsboro, Ohio; three sisters, Betty Young, Stanford, and Dorothy Rhodus and Helen Durbin, both of Danville; and four grandchildren.

SEIFERT, DR. RALPH L., 63, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, IN. Born January 4, 1943 in Alma, MI, he was the son of Ralph Louis and Catherine Ford (Dyer) Seifert, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his aunt, Mary Short; uncle and aunt, Harvey and Lois Seifert. A merit scholar he was a 1960 graduate of University High School in Bloomington, IN where he was known for writing and producing an opera. Dr. Seifert received his A.B. in 1963 from Indiana University with a National Science Foundation Scholarship Award and his M.S. in 1966 and Ph. D. in 1968 from the University of California (Berkeley). Dr. Seifert taught at Hanover College since 1970, having previously taught at Indiana University. In 1993, he traveled in China with a study team of Hanover faculty; in the course of this tour he gave lectures at several Chinese universities and normal schools (teacher's colleges). His interests included elementary statistics (about which he completed a textbook), mathematical modeling and problem solving, and history of mathematics. Dr. Seifert also enjoyed travel, model building, playing contract bridge, composing music, and serving as organist and choir accompanist at the Hanover United Methodist Church, where he was a member and served as treasurer and board chairman. He was also a member of the Madison Rotary Club, where he was past president and treasurer and was recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. He enjoyed working the admission gates at the Madison Regatta and the Salvation Army Holiday Bell Ringers for the Madison Rotary Club. He also Served on the board of directors of the Jefferson County Historical Society and was treasurer of the Girls, Inc. board, United Way board and enjoyed serving as musician for the Candlelight Tours and many other community gatherings. He was elected the Hanover clerk-treasurer two and a half years ago, running for office after retiring from Hanover College. A Hanover College faculty member for thirty- three years, Dr. Seifert was a professor and was a mathematics and computer science chairman when he retired in May 2003. He and his wife, Margaret, were involved in Hanover and Jefferson County civic affairs for years. They were most recently recognized for their contributions when the Ivy Tech Foundation named them the Benefactors of the Year. Some of the countries that he has visited as a tourist include Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Greece, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and most of the countries in Western Europe and Scandinavia. Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Francis) Seifert, whom he married on July 14, 1979; mother-in-law, Helen Francis of Stanford, KY; brother and sisters-in-law, David and Alissa Horseman, Cabell and Martha Francis all of Stanford; nephews, Dave Francis with the U.S. Air Force stationed in Baghdad, Iraq, David Horseman of Stanford, KY, Kelly Horseman and his wife, Allsion and Waynesville, OH; niece, Deborah Settles and her husband, Mike of Mt. CRAB ORCHARD - Brandy Renee Ison Simpson, 23, of Waynesburg, died Wednesday in Lincoln County.

Born Sept. 26, 1983, in Danville, she was the daughter of Danny and Sandra Sowder Ison of Waynesburg. She was a homemaker, expecting her second child, who also died.

Other survivors include her husband, Casey Dwayne Simpson; a son, Christian Blake Ison of Crab Orchard; four brothers, Daniel Ison of Waynesburg, Greg Landis of Crab Orchard, Brian Ison of Oklahoma and Ryan Ison of Louisiana; a sister, Carrie Asbury of Waynesburg; and her grandmother, Omanell Ison of Eubank.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at McKnight Funeral Home by Chester Cornett. Burial will be in Ephesus Cemetery.

Wesley H. Sims , 84, Stanford, husband of Vivian Hester Sims , died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 at his residence.

Born May 25, 1920 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Garland and Letha Poulter Sims

He was employed as the office manager at Kentucky Utilities in Lexington for over 30 years. He was a member of Stanford Baptist Church, a 50 year member and past master of the Gideons and Masons, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of several local civic organizations and was a WWII Air Force veteran.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons, H. Gerald (Kakie) Hester of Lexington and Jon (Judy) Hester and Jim (Judy) Hester, both of Stanford; one foster son, Jeff King; one daughter, Terry Sims Campbell of Shelbyville; two sisters, Georgia Hoover and Anne L. Manning, both of Harrodsburg; one sister-in-law, Patsy Sims of Burgin; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Duncan Sims and one brother, Berry Sims.

The funeral was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel in Stanford with Rev. Max Hester officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School class.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Speer; his children, Melissa Fletcher, Joshua, Robert and Ashley Speer; a sister, Diana Gosser of Hustonville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, David L. Speer Jr. Services were today at Williams Funeral Home by the Rev. Hal Spann. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery.

Eugene Brownlow Stonecypher, 80, Somerset, formerly of College Street, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Russell County Hospital.

He was born in Waynesburg, Oct. 5, 1925, son of the late Adrian Brownlow and Etta Belle Reynolds Stonecypher. He was raised in Waynesburg, attended Waynesburg Elementary School and was a graduate of Waynesburg High School.

He returned to Kentucky in 1945, after serving in the United States Navy and attended Centre College. He became a teacher and taught in many schools in Kentucky, as well as Red Rock Elementary School in Red Rock, Colorado. He returned to Kentucky in 1956, to teach in Benton, Ky., and in 1957, moved to Frankfort, Ky., where he taught eighth grade English, math and physical education as well as coaching basketball and baseball.

In 1963, he began working for the Kentucky Highway Department in Frankfort, moved to Somerset in 1964, and worked for the highway department until 1981. He worked in real estate and later became a writer of short stories and poetry. He joined Double Springs Baptist Church at age 7, having moved his membership in 1964 to Somerset First Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member, and also served as a volunteer for God’s Food Pantry and a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Deva Wilson Roy Stonecypher, whom he married July 1882; two sons, Michael Eugene Stonecypher of Somerset, and David Lane (and Kelley) Stonecypher, Lexington; two stepsons, Lacy Roy and Owen Neal (and Allison) Roy, both of Russell Springs; a daughter, Lori Stonecypher (and Mike) Yeager, Somerset; a sister, Joy (and Landon) Pilcher, Frankfort; six grandchildren, Jason Lane (and Michele) Diamond, Dallas, Texas, Katie Laree (and Tim) McLean, Earlanger, Ky., Jordan William Brownlow Yeager, Kathleen Woods Stonecypher, Joshua Michael Brownlow Yeager, and Adrainne Ann Stonecyper, all of Somerset; three step-grandsons, Jesse, Adam and Lucas Roy; two great-grandchildren, Jesse Michael and Noah Ryan McLean; and a nephew, LeMoyne (and Karen) Pilcher, Frankfort.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James David Stonecypher; and a daughter, Elise Ann Stonecypher Washington.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 17, in the old sanctuary of First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Adcock officiating.

Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg.

He was born July 9, 1918 and was the beloved husband of Frieda B. (nee Rogers) Wall.

Other survivors include children, Harold Wall and Terry Wall; grandchildren, Vicki, Brad (Andrea), and Greg (Myrna) of Ft. Polk, LA., and Katy, Kristy, and Joey; great grandchildren, Greg, Kara, and Micah; and a sister, Lucy Vanover of Stanford.

He farmed in his early years, later retired as a carpenter contractor and builder of residential homes, and then spent the last 23 years grain farming with his sons.

Visitation will be held today (Thursday Nov. 2) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Tufts Schildmyer Family Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Dr., Loveland, OH. 45140.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Rest Haven Memorial Park, 10209 Plainfield Rd., Cincinnati, OH. 45241.

STANFORD - A memorial service for Charlotte Chadwell Young, 79, of Stanford, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Stanford Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Bertrum. Private burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Born June 1, 1927, in Dayton, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Gene and Mabel Mullins Chadwell. She was a homemaker and a member of Highland United Methodist Church. She was an artist and had belonged to various art leagues.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Young of Stanford; a son, David Young of Stanford; a daughter, Marsha Meier of Melbourne, Australia; two brothers, Bill Chadwell of Nokomis, Fla., and Paul Chadwell of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Caroline Lancaster of Louisville; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dane Young.

STANFORD - Services for Roy Lee Young, 81, of Ridgeway Drive, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Harris Memorial United Methodist Church by Jerry Beck and Harold Brown. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18, American Legion.

Born Oct. 21, 1921, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Delmer L. and Victoria Miracle Young. He was owner of Young's Body Shop for 40 years, a member of Harris Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of Travel Airs Quartet. He was a World War II decorated veteran and a member of American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Young; two daughters, Brenda C. Young of Lancaster and Stephanie Y. Brown of Somerset; a brother, Don Young of Highland; a sister, Winona Herrington of Crab Orchard; four grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Don Young, John Holtzclaw, E.G. Brock, Cecil Witt, Jim Reed and Ronnie Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers are Hubert Deatherage and Jack Withrow.
