CRAB ORCHARD - Elizabeth Catherine Link Schuler Abt, 92, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Waynesburg, died Friday.

Born Oct. 3, 1914, in Somerset, she was a daughter of the late William and Constancia Link. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church and the widow of Joseph A. Schuler and Charles Abt.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Baker of Harrodsburg; a son, Joseph A. Schuler of Memphis, Ind.; a sister, Pauline Williams of Elmhurst, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, William "Bill" Schuler.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church by the Rev. Tobias Sabariar. Burial will be in St. Sylvester Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Buddy, Joe, Jimmy, Mike and Thomas Schuler, and Greg and Charles Whitenack. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. McKnight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

STANFORD - Everett Junior Austin, 76, of Hustonville, died Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Born July 8, 1930, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Everett and Elsie Tapscott Austin. He was a Marine in the Korean War, a founding member of Stanford EMS, Stanford City Fire Chief for 20 years, and a former deacon at Blue Lick Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadine Austin of Hustonville; children, Mike Austin of Waynesburg, and Timothy Austin and Elizabeth Austin, both of Hustonville; two brothers, Robert Austin of Ghent and Jimmy Austin of Casey County; and two grandchildren.

Born May 8, 1932, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Everett and Ruby Leeper Baird. He attended University of Kentucky, served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a long-distance truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Burgess Baird; a son, Donnie Baird of Stanford; a brother, Jim Baird of Stanford; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and three step great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home by Sherry Baird. Burial was in Cameron Cemetery.

John S. Baughman III, 74, of Beaumont Avenue, Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Feb. 27, 1932 in Stanford, he was the son of the late J. S. and Dora Hill Baughman Jr., and was the husband of Barbara McGlone Baughman.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, the Mercer Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the McDowell Home Health Board and the Mercer County Fair Board. He attended Washington and Lee University and Centre College, and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine. He practiced family medicine in the Mercer County area for 46 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: four sons, Tom Rankin Baughman, Robert “Bob” Eaton Baughman, William “Bill” Montgomery Baughman and John “Pete” Samuel Baughman IV, all of Harrodsburg; one step-son, Brent Newby of Harrodsburg; one step-daughter, Lessa Schwarz of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Katherine Brower of Lancaster, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Hill Baughman. Services were held Monday, Nov. 27 at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with James Baughman officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dr. Nick Dedman, Chuck Dedman, Dr. Tom Dedman, Sean Brown, George “Bud” VanArsdall, Tony Gowins, Jim McGlone and Bill Holton. Honorary pallbearers were the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital staff, the McDowell Home Health Board, Bob Ballard, W. L. Rouse Jr., Skeeter Reed, Dr. Bacon Moore and Dr. George Noe.

MORELAND - Hazel Pearl Maddox Beldon, 80, of Hustonville, died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born March 16, 1926, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late George and Ellen Griffin Maddox and the widow of Delmer Beldon.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Beldon of Hustonville; a brother, Ronald Maddox of Maxey Valley; and sisters, Nellie King of Liberty and Ada Taylor of Hustonville.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Phillip Smallwood with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Hafley, Donnie Pendygraft, Joe Taylor, Joe Ellis, Ott Beeler and Doug Beldon.

LANCASTER - James K. Bourne, 97, of Richmond Street, died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 2, 1909, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Kinnaird and Katherine Walter Bourne. He was a retired farmer and employed with McRoberts Drug Store for many years. He was a member of Lancaster Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II, having landed on Normandy and Omaha Beach. He was awarded five battle stars during his military service.

Survivors include his wife, Mary McCulley Bourne; a son, J. Keith Bourne (Teresa) of Lancaster; and a brother, Hubert Bourne (Delores) of Ohio. He was preceded in death by four brothers, A.J., Eugene, Harold and Robert Bourne.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Revs. Bryce McCulley and Guy Moyer. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Royce, Michael, Jeffrey and John Bourne, Christopher Cox and Donnie McCulley. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Arnold, Jerry Murphy, Elisha Bourne, Tim Arnett and Ronald Bourne.

BRODHEAD - Dorothy Jean Elder Brock, 74, of Stanford, died Sunday at Golden Living Center in Stanford.

Born on June 8, 1932, in Crab Orchard, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Perkins and Maudie Beatrice Miller Elder.

Survivors include her husband, Vance G. Brock; a son, Curtis G. Brock of Stanford; a brother, Daniel R. Elder of Burgln; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals by Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County.

STANFORD - Floyd Brock, 86, of Waynesburg, died Dec. 30 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 12, 1920, to the late Alie and Fannie Saylor Brock in Brodhead, he was a farmer.

Survivors include a brother, Ledford Brock of Waynesburg; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Willie, Ralph and Marion Brock; and a sister, Ethel Harrison.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home by Gary King. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Grecian Saylor Brock, 86, of Crab Orchard, died Thursday, Dec. 28 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Lynch, she was born July 6, 1920 to the late Roy and Mary McKinney Saylor. She was the widow of Ernest Edward Brock.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Ed Brock, Jr.; sisters, Bonnie Allen, Thelma McKinney, Evelyn McMullin, Helen Smith and Jewell Saylor; and brothers, Boyd and Herbert Saylor.

Survivors include one son, Danny (Janie) Brock of Crab Orchard; three daughters, Geraldine (Jim) Peel of Brodhead, Phyllis Jean (Dave) Nickell of Stanford, and Sheila (Harry) Helton of Crab Orchard; two brothers, Eli (Helen) Saylor of Somerset and William (Louise) Saylor of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 31 at the McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard with Bros. Morris Trayner and Vola Brown officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

STANFORD - Services for Clarence Brown, 77, of Lincoln County, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by Arnold Larkin and Virgil Eubank. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Born Feb. 12, 1927, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Margaret Walls Brown. He was an employee of the state highway department and a member of New Bethel Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Mason Brown; a son, Billy L. Brown of Lincoln County; a daughter, Nona Naylor of Danville; a sister, Flossie Bradshaw of Burgin; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bobby and Ray Brown, Mark Peck, Jerry Naylor Jr., Dale Reed, Jeremiah Brandenburg, Greg Allen and Mark Bradshaw.

Dorothy Mae Coffey, 92, of 215 High Street, Monticello, died Friday, Dec. 8 at her home.

A native of Lincoln Co., she was born March 29, 1914 to the late William Riley Patton and Laura Wilkinson Patton. She was a homemaker and the widow of George Samuel Coffey.

Survivors include children, Dorothy Downing, Deloris Smith, George Anthony Coffey, Eva Coffey, Lemuel Coffey, and Donna Massengill.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, Dec. 14) at 11 a.m. at the Steubenville Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Wells officiating. Burial will be in the Monticello Cemetery.

STANFORD - Lona Coleman, 46, of McKinney, died Wednesday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born Sept. 13, 1960, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Bonnie Hodge Campbell. She was of Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd Lee Coleman of McKinney; three brothers, Elwood, David and Gary Campbell, all of McKinney; four sisters, Marie Coffman and Mary Elliott, both of McKinney, and Dollie Brown and Shirley Campbell, both of the Geneva community.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home by Jim Norman. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Herbert and Ronnie Hodge, Garland Coleman, Wilard Dean Elliott, Henry Keith and Wayne Pullum.

STANFORD - Sonia Coss, 30, of Waynesburg, died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born April 15, 1976, in Chicago, she was a daughter of Daniel and Rebexie Fields Coss. She worked at Wal-Mart and was of the Catholic faith.

Other survivors include brothers, Robert Dewey Bastin of Apopka, Fla., Stephen Dale Coffey of Eubank and Francisco Daniel Coss of Chicago; and sisters, Maria Leticia Coss and Gina Coss, both of Chicago.

Services for Birdie Florence Coffman Daugherty, 78, of Timothy Avenue, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Gary Story. Burial will be in the Parksville Cemetery.

Born January 3, 1927, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late John William and Irene Lewis Coffman Sr. She was the widow of William Arthur Daugherty.

She was a seamstress at Palm Beach Co. and Belcher's Upholstery and was an employee of the Salvation Army. She was a member of the Pentecostal church.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Daugherty of Danville; a brother, Johnnie William Coffman Jr. of Stanford; four sisters, Louise Belcher of Danville, Gladys Raley of Parksville, Joan Raley of Indianapolis and Birdie Mae Case of Junction City; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Wilson, Dexter Mattingly, Phillip Belcher Jr., J.J. McConaha, Jeremy Johnson and JennaLee Johnson, Louise Belcher and Birdie Mae Case.

CRAB ORCHARD - Wilburn Denney, 65, of Brodhead, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky. He was the husband of Kathleen Bryant Denney.

Wilburn was born May 10, 1941, in Clay County, to the late Newton and Lucy Catherine Smith Denney. He was a retired material handler for Nacco Material Handling Group in Berea. He was a member and song leader of Mount Zion Church of Christ.

Other survivors include three sons, Jerry and wife Kathy Denney of Brodhead, and Johnny Denney and Gary Denney, both of Crab Orchard; four daughters, Nora (David) Denney and Elaine (Steve) Denney, both of Crab Orchard, Beulah (Keith) Sims of Kings Mountain and Pauline (Willie) Gilpin of Broughtontown; a sister, Bonnie Watson of Broughtontown; a brother, Melvin Denney of Mount Vernon; 18 grandchildren, Wendy and Mark Sowder, Amber and Tim McClure, Kelly, Andrea and Rachel Denney, Sueann Henderson, Brandy, Jeremy and Jacob Byrd, Austin Henderson, Shandra Sims, Katelyn Gilpin, Nicki Owens, Kassidy Gilpin, Tyler Sims, Jason Denney and Haven Gilpin; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Hanna Sowder.

CRAB ORCHARD - Virgil Durham Jr., 77, of Logan Avenue, Stanford, died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born August 4, 1929, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Virgil and Sally Nichols Durham. He was a member of Pine Grove Church of Christ and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Martin Durham; a daughter, Sally E. "Libby" Durham of Stanford; three sons, Virgil F. "Frankie" Durham, Billy Ray "Bull" Durham and Delbert L. "PeeWee" Durham, all of Stanford; two sisters, Josephine Eldridge and Beulah Shelton, both of Crab Orchard; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at McKnight Funeral Home by Curt Herrington. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Durham, Frankie Durham, James Southerland, Doug Brock, Anthony Durham and Matthew Durham.

GEORGETOWN - James Steven Elkins, 55, of Georgetown, horticulturist at Quest Farm and husband of Judy Cox Elkins, died Saturday at his home.

A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late James Walton and Geneva Nancy Cobbum Elkins. He was a graduate of University of Kentucky and a member of Georgetown's Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.

Other survivors include a son, Warren Reed Elkins of Frankfort; two daughters, Stephanie Rachel (Josh) Daniel of California, Ky., and Amy Denise McKinney of Georgetown; a grandson, Forest McKinney; four sisters, Rebecca (Robert) Goins and Beverly (Leslie) Arnett, both of Lexington, Bonnie (David) Kleckner of Danville and Donna Tuttle of Stanford; and two brothers, Samuel (Susan) Elkins and Danny (Jackie) Elkins, both of Stanford.

Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness by Roy Carmack.

MORELAND - Margie Lee Ellis, 82, of Carmel, Ind., formerly of Moreland, died Monday in Indianapolis.

Born March 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Bessie Russell Ellis. She was employed by Palm Beach for 40 years and a member of Westside Community United Methodist Church.

Survivors include nephews, Robert and Jerry Ellis, both of Moreland, and Clinton Brown of Indiana; and caregiver and niece, Lonita Washam of Indiana.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Don Scilley with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

LANCASTER - Andrew Feldman, 83, of Ridgeway Drive, died Saturday at Christian Care Center.

Born April 4, 1923, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Adolf and Helen Pingleton Feldman. He worked for Feldman Lumber Co. for many years and was a truck driver. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church.

Survivors include his children, Mike Feldman, Gary Feldman and Ralph Feldman, all of Lancaster, Matthew Feldman of Nicholasville, and Katherine F. Todd of Lexington; sisters, Agnes Ernest of Cincinnati and Clara Debord of Louisville; grandchildren, Ryan Feldman, Nichole Hammick and Andrea Barnes; and great-grandchildren, Shophia Hammick, and Adreanna and Huston Barnes. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Adolf, Clement, Frances, Isidor and Sylvestor Feldman; and three sisters, Philomena Feldman, Margaret Tebolt and Genevieve Bowling.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Williams Catholic Church by the Revs. Ralph Beiting and Tobias Sabariar.

STANFORD - A memorial service for Charles Wesley Fisher, 63, of Waynesburg, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at his home with Shelby Reynolds officiating.

Born Feb. 3, 1943, in Little Rock, Ark., he was a son of the late Winfred Roy and Virginia Reed Fisher. He was a former employee of Honeywell Steel Mills in Michigan City, Ind., and a sewing machine mechanic at Cowden Manufacturing Co. in Lancaster. He was a Baptist and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary C. Long Farris Fisher; four daughters, Trina Fisher of Michigan City, Ind., Shelley Fisher Carroll, Dinah Fisher Vaughn and Ressie E. Newsom, all of Dyersburg, Tenn.; four stepsons, Lonnie D. Farris of Hazard, Jeffrey A. Farris of Waynesburg, Michael D. Floyd of Lebanon, Ind., and Kenneth E. Farris of Waynesburg; two stepdaughters, Cathie L. Staton of Waynesburg and Teresa Gayle of Frankfort; two brothers, David R. Fisher of Springdale, Ark., and James W. MORELAND - Lillie Bell Sears Followell, 94, of Franklin, Ind., formerly of Casey County, died Sunday at Homeview Health Care in Franklin.

Born Feb. 5, 1912, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Bud and Minnie Reeves Sears. She was a homemaker, a member of Franklin Church of Christ and Franklin Senior Center. She was the widow of Eddie O. Followell.

Survivors include two sons, Gene and Eddie Followell, both of Franklin; a brother, Robert Sears of Casey County; two sisters, Ruby Compton of Liberty, and Wanda Sears of Stanford.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Josephine “Josie” Elizabeth Gooch, 87, a resident of Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

She was born Dec. 25, 1918 at Lincoln County, the daughter of Ralph and Nora Denney Braley. Josie was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was a member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church, and had been an Adult Sunday School teacher for many years.

Survivors include three sons, James Lee (and Shirley) Gooch, Science Hill, Ky., Eulice Dean (and Barbara) Gooch of Blue Ash, Ohio, and Robert Edwin (and Megan) Gooch of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Rose (and Ronnie) Edwards of Eubank, Ky. and Phyllis Joan Gooch of Somerset; two brothers, Thomas Braley of Hillsboro, Ohio and Foster (and Sylvia) Braley of Milford, Ohio; a sister, Alberta Rogers of Pleasant Plaines, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; step great grandchildren; step great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Margie Braley of Crab Orchard, Ky.

Josephine was preceded in death by an infant son, Art Nolan Gooch, in 1951; one great grandson, Thomas Gooch; two brothers, Bradford Braley and John Braley; and a sister-in-law, Molly Braley.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 15, at Liberty Baptist Church in Crab Orchard with Bro. Dean Gooch officiating.

Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Crab Orchard.

Pallbearers will be Michael Gooch, Steven Gooch, Rodney Edwards, Brad Anderson, Donald Stevens, Mike Foor, Bob Anderson, and Joshua Anderson.

A visitation will be held today from 11 a.m. until time for service at the church. Lange & New Bros. Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements and will conduct the services.

Vivian F. (Mama) Hammons 98, widow of Virgil “Shrimp” Hammons, passed away Saturday October 11, 2003 at Richmond Health and Rehab Madison Manor. Born in Butler Ky., she was the daughter of the late George and Eva Lawrence Shotwell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. In the 1950’s she and Virgil operated the Dairy Delight on Big Hill Ave. Other restaurants they operated included Hinkle’s Drug Store Fountain, The Madison County Club Dining Room, and the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in Lake Charles, LA. After retiring from the restaurant business she became a personal caregiver to the late Mrs. E. H. Muncy and former Governor and Mrs Keene Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty J. Collins of Richmond, Ky., three sons; William Virgil “Bill” (Betty Jo) Hammons, Jr. of Richmond, Ky, Ronald (Anna M.) Hammons of Lexington, KY, Harold Thomas “ Tom” (Mary Hammons, of Burlington, Ky. Nine grandchildren, sever great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Sarah Elizabeth Samones “Me-Maw” Hutchinson, 94, of Somerset, daughter of the late Charles William and Sarah Walden Sampson Samones, was born at Houstonville, Ky., on Sept. 20, 1912, and departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, in the presence of her family.

Sarah was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church and a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.

She was united in marriage to Clifford Edward Hutchinson for 59 years. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include Elizabeth “Betty” Bottles, Franklin, Ohio, Tom Hutchinson, Columbia, Ky., John Hutchinson, Eubank, William “Charlie” Hutchinson, Knoxville, Tenn., William “Bill” Hutchinson, Sarah Wood, Brian Hutchinson and Sam Hutchinson, all of Somerset. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born June 19, 1917, in Letcher County, she was the daughter of Nehemiah and Cora Day Eldridge. She was a homemaker and nurse's aide for many local nursing homes, and a member of Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church. She was the widow of Jesse Large.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue Hendrix of Harrodsburg and Lula Bartel of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Joe Eldridge of Havasu City, Ariz., and Arnold Eldridge of Davenport, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

CRAB ORCHARD - Mary Catherine Combs Magee, 79, died Monday at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, KY.

Born Dec. 31, 1927, in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late Charlie J. Combs and Bessie Lee Irvin Combs Kidd and stepdaughter of Theadore Kidd. She was co-owner and operator of Magee's Variety Store, a member of Crab Orchard Christian Church and the widow of Lee Thompson Magee. (Married on May 31, 1948)

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Kidwell of Crab Orchard; brothers, Chester Lewis Combs, Walter Kidd and Tommy Kidd; and four sisters, Rosalie Delaney, Lelia Mae Hornback, Martha Jane Wease and Judy Finn.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, stepfather, Theadore Kidd, brothers, Jim and Joe Kidd; sisters, Minnie and Loretta Combs. Burial will take place at Crab Orchard Cemetery on Thursday, January 18, 2007.

WAYNESBURG - James Edward Padgett, 71, of Waynesburg, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007.

Born Wednesday, July 3, 1935, in Lincoln County to the late William and Ella Mae Padgett, he was retired from Brown and Williams in Lexington where he was an employee for 14 years as well as being a farmer. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Church.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Jane Stull Padgett; and a son, Stacy Lynn (Vanessa) Padgett of Waynesburg. James was preceded in death by a son, Brian Keith Padgett.

STANFORD - Tommy Peek, 63, of Stanford, died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 29, 1943, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late James W. and Martha Lunsford Peek. He was an automobile mechanic, a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Susie Emerson Peek of Crab Orchard; two sons, George Thomas Peek (Donna) of Lancaster and Andrew Kyle Peek of Danville; a daughter, Lea Padgett (Daniel) of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Nell Deatherage of Stanford and Ruth Ryan of Danville; and two grandchildren, Ramsey Peek and Madelyn Witte. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Suzanne Peek.

Born Aug. 1, 1918, in Stanford, he was a son of the late Adam M. and Peachie Baughman Pence. He was a farmer and a member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church. He was a World War II Army veteran, a past director of Farm Bureau, a charter member of the Kentucky Colonel Association, and worked with Lincoln County 4-H and church youth. He was a member of Lincoln County Livestock Improvement Association and was named Progressive Farmer Magazine Farmer of the Year in 1964.

Born March 3, 1926, in Morehead, he was a son of the late J.H. and Janie Harrison Powers. He was retired after 25 years as manager for Builders Supply Co. in Stanford. He was a member and elder of Stanford Christian Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Caswell Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion and its honor guard, a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 60 in Stanford, and a member of Lions Club. He also served on the Stanford water board for 14 years and Fort Logan Hospital board for 25 years. He had been a volunteer with the Stanford Fire Department and was named Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2001. He had worked with Little League programs for 50 years and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Viola "Vi" Kissick Powers; a son, Dr. Michael Powers of Bowling Green; three daughters, Janey Stotts of Cave City, Toni Jackson of Stanford and Tori Moore of Clinton, Ill.; a sister, Ernestine Drummond of Rome, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

STANFORD - Roy M. Robertson Jr., 71, of Danville, formerly of Waynesburg, died Saturday in Danville.

Born July 24, 1935, in Lincoln County, he was a son of Mitchell and Edith Frances Henry Robertson. He was a retired used car dealer and an Army veteran.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Welch, Sandra Ford and Cassie Jean Woodall; two brothers, William and Glynn Robertson; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

CRAB ORCHARD - Chandler Gorman Robinson, 73, of Crab Orchard, died Tuesday at his home.

Born March 31, 1933, in Breathitt County, he was the son of the late Olie Robinson and the late Carrie Williams Taulbee. He was a member of Crab Orchard Church of God and attended Crossroads Assembly of God in Brodhead. He was a retired Air Force senior master sergeant. He served in the Vietnam War. He earned a bachelor's degree of New Hampshire College of Accounting and Commerce.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hendrickson Robinson; a brother, James C. Taulbee of Arkansas; and two sisters, Virginia Waddle of Sharonville, Ohio, and Elizabeth Fugate of Batavia, Ohio.

MORELAND - Carl Russell, 83, of Hustonville, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born March 15, 1923, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Eddie and Sarah Smith Russell.

He was a World War II veteran, a farmer and worked for Boyle Lumber and Lynn Hardware. He also was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Hustonville Ruritan Club and Slate Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta McWhorter Russell; a daughter, Becky Letcher of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Regina Carrier of Hustonville; sisters, Elizabeth Hulett of Burlington and Nancy Rose Dakin of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Ronald Lee Saylor, 66, of Waynesburg, died Thursday, Dec. 21 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Lincoln Co., he was born June 3, 1940 to the late Elihu Saylor and Retha Hopkins Saylor. He was an Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam era and a member of the Family Worship Center in Waynesburg.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Worley, Clifford, Hurbel and Edward Saylor; and three sisters, Ruby Jewell Saylor, Pauline Saylor, and Mae Francis Saylor.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Saylor; two daughters, Tracy Saylor of Summerville, SC. and Kimberly Thompkins of Ladson, SC.; one step son, James Sanders of Charlotte, NC.; one step daughter, Nicole Coleman of Stanford; two brothers, Elbert Saylor of Waynesburg and Robert Saylor of Knoxville, TN.; one sister, Flossie Manuel of Stanford; and three grandchildren, Chasity Coleman, Trent Murray, and Shane Thompkins.

Born Jan. 30, 1949, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Chester Foley and Katherine Hazlett Foley. She was a homemaker and member of Faith Temple Pentecostal Church.

STANFORD - Geneva Dillingham "Mama Gen" Sears, 88, of Stanford, died Friday at her home.

Born Dec. 23, 1918, in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late Dallas and Martha Owens Dillingham. She was a bookkeeper for Production Credit and co-owner of the old Lincoln County Stockyards.

She was a member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church. She was past president and member of Professional Business Club. She was the widow of W. L. Sears.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Lou Lynn of Stanford; a son, Donald Sears of Stanford; two sisters, Linnie Brown of Versailles and Alberta Winstead of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 22, 1926, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Sherod and Versa Baldock Singleton. He was a rural mail carrier in Kings Mountain for 30 years and a member of Kings Mountain Christian Church. He was a 1944 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and a World War II veteran having served as staff sergeant and rifleman in Company K, 232nd Infantry, and 42nd Rainbow Division, serving in France, Germany and Austria. He was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post and a member of Rainbow Division Veterans Memorial Foundation.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Hannah Singleton of Kings Mountain; two sons, Larry Singleton of Kings Mountain and Eddie Singleton of Ottenheim; two daughters, Patty Stonecypher of Adair County and Sandy Price of Henry County; a brother, Winfred Singleton of Southgate; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Born Nov. 20, 1952, in Crab Orchard, she was a daughter of the late Robert F. and Dora M. Dutton Smith. She was a teacher at Jacob Elementary School in Jefferson County. She was a member of Buechel United Methodist Church in Louisville, a graduate of Crab Orchard High School, Berea College and University of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by a son, Noel Trimble Jr., and a daughter, Edna Trimble Henry.

James Turpin, 49, of Bluebird Lane, Waynesburg, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at his residence.

He was born in Lincoln County on Jan. 18, 1957, a son of Dennie Turpin of Wilmore, Ky., and Christine Judge Turpin of Somerset, Ky. He was a farmer.

He is survived by four brothers, Howard Turpin of Stanford, Ky., Julian Turpin of Waynesburg, Dale (and Gail) Turpin of Waynesburg, and Mark (and Trina) Turpin of Science Hill, Ky.; two sisters, Virginia (and Steve) Ramsey of Science Hill, and Dee Ellen (and Michael) Stringer of Richmond, Ky.; and a companion, Beverly Smith of Liberty, Ky.

A funeral service held today, Dec. 15, at noon at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, Science Hill, with Bro. Greg Powell officiating.

Burial will be in the Poplarville Cemetery, Somerset.

Born Sept. 27, 1918, in Geneva, he was the son of the late George W. and Lucy Wall Walls. He was a farmer and truck driver. He was a member of Geneva Community Church and the widower of Hazel Johnson Walls.

Survivors include a son, G.W. "Junior" Walls Jr. of Geneva; a daughter, Charlotte Caudill of Waynesburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby W. Yocum.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Geneva Community Church by Clifford Dehart and Ed Carman. Burial will be in Eason Cemetery.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at Geneva Community Church and after 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Keith and Kendall Caudill, Mike and Jeff Walls, Christopher Yocum and Patrick Terry.

CRAB ORCHARD - Naomi Braughton Wardlow, 85, of Cincinnati, formerly of Lincoln County, died Saturday in Cincinnati.

Born Aug. 11, 1921, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Coleman and Mary Hurst Braughton. She was a retired store clerk and the widow of Walter O. Wardlow.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Earl Griffin of Cincinnati; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara A. Griffin.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKnight Funeral Home by the Rev. Billy Pack. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

A native of Stanford, she was the former Clara Emma Reichenbach. She was the widow of Roy H. Waterbury, owner of the old Waterbury Bros. Co.

Survivors include a brother, Walter R. Reichenbach, Sr. and several nieces and nephews.

WAYNESBURG - Robert Ellis Whitaker, 72, of Lancaster, died Wednesday in Fayette County.

Born Jan. 13, 1934, in Letcher County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Crissie Caudill Whitaker. He was a truck driver for 31 years and a member of Teamsters Union 651. He was a member of Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church and served as caretaker of Friendship Cemetery. He was an Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Katheryn Hinds Whitaker; two sons, Donald R. Whitaker of Lancaster and Bobby D. Whitaker of Kings Mountain; four brothers, Donald Whitaker of Orange Park, Fla., Dale Whitaker of Norwood, Ohio, Reed Whitaker of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and James Custer Whitaker of Eubank; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Jo Todd.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church by Emory Caudill, Roger Gibson and Hurley Short. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joe and Russel Hinds, Reed and Dale Whitaker, Bill Crumley and Travis Stone. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home.

A native of Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Johann Beat and Emelie Bertha Von Gruenigen Camenisch. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, former owner of White Haven Dairy in Murfreesboro, TN. and the widow of Thomas H. White, Sr.

Survivors include a son, Thomas H. White, Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN.; one daughter, Ruth Ann White McDow of Covington, TN.; a sister, Flora Viola Martin of Oregon; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren..

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 1 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Todd and Brian Gawf officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Woodfin Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Sally Letitia Willhoite, 67, of Harrodswood Dr., Frankfort, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at her residence following a long illness.

Born on January 22, 1939, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Ethel King Kirkpatrick. She was the widow of Willis Edgar Willhoite.

She was formerly a private caregiver. She was a member of New Life Worship Center.

She is survived by: three daughters, Phyllis Darnell, Marilynn Hellard and Jamie Lewis, all of Frankfort; two brothers, Ted Kirkpatrick and Connie Kirkpatrick, both of Harrodsburg; five sisters, Dora Holt, Harrodsburg, Jackie Purcell, CA, Ida Peavler, Dayton, OH, Eunice Deaton, Harlan, and JoAnn Price, Goldsboro, NC, six grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and a close companion, Willie Carrier, Frankfort.

Memorial Services were conducted Thursday, September 14, at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel, Frankfort. Pastor Jeff Eaton officiated.

Mary Hill Woodall, 83, of Portman Avenue, Stanford died Thursday, January 19, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

Born November 27, 1922, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late William and Katherine Pence Hill. She was the widow of Robert E. Woodall.

She was a homemaker, accountant and member of Harris Memorial United Methodist Church and attended Hebron Lakeside Church.

Survivors include: two nephews, John Baughman, Harrodsburg and William P. Cox, Lexington; two nieces, Georgia L. Hocker, Irvin, TX, and Kitty Bruce Brower, Lancaster; 10 great-nephews; and one great-niece.

She was preceded in death by two children, Robert Woodall Jr. and Margaret Woodall.

Services were held Sunday, January 22, at the Hebron Lakeside Church by Rev. Pete Gilliam. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Baughman IV, Thomas, Robert, and William Baughman, George Hocker, William Cox Jr. and George Cox.

Born April 21, 1936, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Ira and Ethel Coffman Wray. He was a member of Bowen United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Jo Turpin Wray; two sons, Tommy Wray of Hustonville and David Wray of Bowen Road; three daughters, Donna Daugherty of Hustonville, Carol Lynn Buchanan of Bowen Road and Brenda Banta of Stanford; a brother, Wayne Wray of Bowen Road; two sisters, Elsie Wilson of Gravel Switch and Bobby Mattingly of Junction City; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

STANFORD - Services for Ruby Nell McGuffey Young, 87, of Corbin, formerly of Stanford, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by Wayne Galloway. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Born April 28, 1919, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James and Martha Harp McGuffey.

She retired from Palm Beach Co. and was a member of First Church of God. She was the widow of David E. Young Jr.

Survivors include a son, David "Ronnie" Young of Corbin; a daughter, Pat Montgomery of Stanford; a brother, Harry McGuffey of Hiawasa, Ga.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Cottongim, Jason Henegar, Steve Patterson, Scott Montgomery, Brodie Hart and Christopher Hart.
