WAYNESBURG - Billy Joe Adams, 54, of Eubank, died Tuesday.

He was born May 8, 1952, in Lincoln County, to the late Geader and Maxine Bruner Adams. He was a farmer and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church No. 2.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie Singleton Adams; three daughters, Patricia Barron, Melissa Linkes and Stephanie Adams, all of Eubank; a brother, David Adams of Lancaster; three sisters, Josephine Mills and Mary Dowell, both of Liberty, and Betty Bullock of Brodhead; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home. Burial will be in Singletontown Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon for Frankie Lee Adams, 36, who died Dec. 23, 2003, in Albuquerque, N.M. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born Aug. 22, 1967, he was the son of Shirley M. Voyles Adams of Louisville and the late Frank Adams.

He was employed as a high steel rigger for various concert venues and a member of Potato Run United Methodist Church near Corydon.

Survivors besides his mother include his wife, Ruth T. Adams; a son, Lawrence Sisneros of Albuquerque; two daughters, Stephanie Hanson and Monique Sisneros, both of Albuquerque; six brothers, William M. Adams of Corydon, Robert L. Voyles of Louisville, Jeffery Adams of Elizabeth, Charles E. Adams of Louisville, and Carl and David Adams of Crab Orchard KY..; two sisters, Sheila Denise Adams of Corydon and Connie Adams of Crab Orchard and a granddaughter.

MORELAND - Mattie L. Smith Allen, 82, of Bradfordsville died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 19, 1924, in Marion County, she was the daughter of the late John and Melzinia Atwood Smith. She was a homemaker and had previously worked for 19 years at a Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Kelley.

Survivors include her husband, Hollis Allen; a granddaughter, Dr. Kim Kelley; and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation is Monday 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home.

Mr. Anders was born in London, KY and moved here in 1978 from Kentucky.  He enjoyed four-wheeling and fishing.

MORELAND - Jesselyn E. Arvin, 65, of Indianapolis, formerly of Russell County, died Saturday in Greenwood, Ind.

Born April 6, 1941, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late William Jesse and Violet Peyton Arvin and the granddaughter of the late Biece and Ray Peyton.

Survivors include two daughters, Deena (Dean) Nutter of Danville and Wendy (Paul) Bostick of Ashland; a stepson, James Weissinger of Pennsylvania; brother, William Jesse Arvin Jr. of Indianapolis; two sisters, Jacquelyn Overbey of Frankfort and Josselyn McKinney of Knoxville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Sara and Kendra Nutter and Brian Bostick.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Timothy Mathis. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

He is survived by his partner and companion, Mary Ann Holliden; and a brother, Robert Bellville of Palm Springs, Calif.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home at Resthaven in Louisville. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. today at Arch L Heady. W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Floria Cleo Brackett, 90, died Monday, March 26, at the Christian Care Center in Lancaster.

A native of LaFollette, Tenn., she was born August 3, 1916 to the late Lewis and Julia Meredith Chadwell. She was formerly a 25 year employee of McRoberts Drug Store, a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church, and the widow of Thomas Martin Brackett.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Benny L. Brackett.

Survivors include a son, Randall Lewis Brackett of Lancaster; four daughters, Jo Ann (James) McCulley of Lancaster, Betty (Jack) Powell of El Paso, Christine (J.W.) Tyree of Lexington, and Tommye (Gene) Middleton of Madison, Miss.; a daughter-in-law and caregiver, Lillian Brackett of Lancaster; a sister, Flo Matasoff of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Gary Powell of Chicago, Janet (Richard) Salazar of Philadelphia, Pa., Michelle Tyree of Lexington, Alyssa (Jan) Weisberg of Birmingham, Chad Middleton of El Paso, and Jimmie McCulley of Lancaster; and four great grandchildren, Derek and Amanda Salazar of Philadelphia, Hailey McCulley of Lancaster and Jan Thomas Weisberg of Birmingham.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 31 from 8 to 11a.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.

Jay T. Brock, age 68, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2007 in Cincinnati, OH. Born December 28, 1938 in Crab Orchard, KY, he was the son of the late Calvin and Martha Howard Brock. He had worked as a welder for a highway equipment company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Johnny Saylor, William Joe Saylor, George Saylor and Howard Saylor. He is survived by (6) children; Theresa Armacost, Linda Hughes, Kim Lewis, Mary Brock, Diane Bleh, and Michael Brock, sisters; Vivian Saylor, Opal Gwyddioniaid, Linda Lowery and Betty Saylor, brothers; Hurskin Saylor, E.C. Brock and Archie Brock, (19) grandchildren, (26) great grandchildren, all who mourn his passing.

 Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lowery officiating. Burial followed in the Resthaven Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ken Bleh, Mike Brock, Steve Hughes, Wayne Armacost, Jason Hasselbrock and Dale Anderson. Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home of Corbin, KY was in charge of all arrangements.

STANFORD - Arthur Brown, 82, of Lancaster, formerly of Stanford, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Saturday, March 7, 1925, in Vicco, Ky., he was a son of the late James David and Judy Whitt Brown. He was a retired supervisor at the former Whirlpool Corp. in Danville, and a member of Maple Avenue Church of Christ. A member of the U.S. Navy, he belonged to Caswell Saufley Post No. 18 of the American Legion, was past master of Lincoln Lodge No. 60 F&AM, and a member of Lancaster Lodge No. 104 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Barron Brown of Lancaster; a son, Anthony (Marilyn) Brown of Lancaster; two daughters, Brenda Bottoms of Danville, and Judy (Dale) Smith of Moreland; a stepdaughter, Vicki Sweeney of Lexington; former daughter-in-law, Nancy Roller of Stanford; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Brown; three brothers, Astor, Amos and Arnold Brown; and two sisters, Sally Watts and Elizabeth Padgett.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Fox Funeral Home with Bros. Frank Cleaver and David Smith officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

BROWN, Shane Elan

A Lincoln County man was killed yesterday when he lost control of his pickup and crashed into a tree 4 miles north of Hustonville. Shane Elan Brown, 21, of Hustonville was driving north on Ky. 2141 at 5:25 a.m. when his pickup crossed the southbound lane and went off the left side of the road, state police said. The truck crashed through a fence, then hit a tree. Mr. Brown, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. (Incomplete article)

Mabel Lee Southerland Ross Carey, 77, of Hustonville, died Friday, March 23 at her residence.

A native of Casey County, she was born April 2, 1929 to the late Lewis and Mary Etta Rayborn Southerland. She worked at Palm Beach and was the widow of Herman Ross and Amos Carey.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Dolly Simpson; and a son, Lewis Wayne Ross.

Survivors include her companion of 30 years, Kenneth Ellis; two sons, Ray (Marie) Ross of Stanford and Amos “JR” (Freda) Carey of Junction City; one special son by heart, Randy Douglas of Gravel Switch; six daughters, Peggy (Donald) Simpson of Hustonville; Edith (Carl) Simpson of Stanford, Dollie Pike, Gloria “Sissy” (Danny) Noe, and Freda Denson all of Gravel Switch and Nona (Vivian McGirr) Carey of Hustonville; one brother, Gene (Effie) Southerland of Hustonville; and two sisters, Margaret Maxey of Morning View and Pat (Joe) McCowan of Stanford; 25 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great, great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Born March 27, 1937, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late John W. and Irene Lewis Coffman.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Cook Coffman; two sons, Arthur Coffman Jr. and Kevin Coffman, both of Indiana; two stepsons, Phillip and Scott Whitehead, both of Indiana; two daughters, Cindy Summers of Indiana and Sherry Coffman of Texas; a stepdaughter, Lisa Drew of Indiana; a brother, Johnny W. Coffman of Stanford; five sisters, Birdie Daugherty and Louise Belcher, both of Danville, Gladys Raley of Parksville, Joan Raley of Indiana and Birdie Mae Case of Junction City; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Sue Coffman.

STANFORD -- T.M. "Tody" Coffman of Hustonville and James "Ap" Fox of Dunnville were killed Friday when their cars collided on Ky. 78 in Stanford, state police said. According to police, Mr. Fox drove his pickup truck across the center line, striking Mr. Coffman and his car head-on. Mr. Coffman, 63, was taken to Fort Logan Hospital, where he died of a fractured neck, said Lincoln County coroner Bill Demrow. Mr. Fox, 78, died at the scene

MORELAND - Lottie Pendergraft Collier, 90, of Danville, died Saturday at Charleston Health Care.

Born Jan. 5, 1914, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Doc Pendergraft and Nina Hair Pendergraft. She was a homemaker and the widow of Bob Collier.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Tanner of Danville, Dwain "Dink" Pendergraft of Hustonville, Ricky Collier of Madison, Ind., and J.W. Collier of Grand Junction, Colo.; three daughters, Roberta Lowe of Covington, Wanda Lewis of Grayson and Linda Ballou of Conroe, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Gail Colson, 57, of Versailles, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati She was born August 9, 1946 in Johnson City, TN the daughter of Ray H. Biddle and Dorothy DeArmond Biddle. She married William C. Colson on December 18, 1965 and he survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Cynthia L. Colson of Kings Park, Long Island, NY, Beth Colson of Scottsdale, AZ, one son, John Colson of Madison, parents Ray H. and Dorothy Biddle of Phoenix, AZ, one sister, Deborah Fitchie of Phoenix, AZ, one brother, David DeArmond of Sevierville, TN, one granddaughter, Kayla Branstetter of Sellersburg, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Colson was the former office manager of Dr. E. Pawlaks office and was the owner of the former Crystal Goblet in Madison. She recently opened the Tan and Tone in Versailles. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Madison where she served as a Deaconess and Elder and was a past member of the church board.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Madison with Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Good Hope Cemetery, Crab Orchard, KY.

CRAB ORCHARD – Russell Dowell, 63, of Crab Orchard, died Saturday at his home.

Born Feb. 27, 1942, in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Frank and Elsie Simpson Dowell. He was a former employee of Penn Ventilation Co. and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Crank Dowell  two sons, Larry R. Dowell  and Lonnie K. Dowell , both of Crab Orchard; a sister, Alma J. Saylor of Waynesburg; five brothers, Odia, Walter and Freamon Dowell , all of Waynesburg, and Gary and Donald Dowell , both of Crab Orchard; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky W. Dowell.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at McKnight Funeral Home by Ron Meece and Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gary, Jimmy, Manford and Shawn Crank, David and Homer Price, Ralph Reynolds and Jerry Shelton. Honorary pallbearers are Douglas and Harold Crank, Sherrill Sims, James Price, Don Belcher and David Oaks.

Chester A. Estridge, 84, of Jeffersonville, Ind., formerly of Crab Orchard, died Thursday, March 29 at the Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Ind.

A native of Missoula, Mont., he was the son of the late Arthur and Julie Estridge of Crab Orchard. He was a retired teacher from Clark County Schools, an employee for the Louisville Bats, a member of the First Christian Church in Jeffersonville, AARP and Gideon’s International, and a veteran of WWII and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Estridge of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two sons, Richard Arthur (Sheila) Estridge and Timothy Wayne (Susan) Estridge both of Louisville; a sister, Margaret Bowser of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Jones and Evan Estridge both of Louisville.

Funeral services were April 2 at the First Christian Church in Jeffersonville.

Private graveside services were held at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Gideon’s International or the First Christian Church in Jeffersonville, Ind.

CRAB ORCHARD - Birney Robert Fish, M.S., P.E., 80, of Johnson City, passed away March 21, 2007, following a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late Birney Huffman Fish and Eudora Grace Roberts Fish of Crab Orchard, KY.

Mr. Fish was born in Crab Orchard, growing up with his sister, Martha Fish Holcomb Pierce, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Theatrice Dyehouse Fish of Johnson City, Tenn.; a daughter, Theresa Lura and her husband Richard of Johnson City, Tenn.; a son, Mark Fish and his wife Sheila of Dallas, Texas; and three grandchildren, Johanna Fish Spaulding and her husband Eric of Martinsville, Va., Joshua Fish and his wife Ashley of Knoxville, Tenn., and Shannon Fish of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Kentucky.

A veteran of World War II, he served as a Japanese translator, tank commander, MP, and following his time in the occupational forces, became a forwarding agent for the Osaka Bible Seminary. Following his discharge from the Army in 1947, Mr. Fish attended Centre College in Danville and completed his undergraduate education summa cum laude in 1951 in civil engineering at the University of Kentucky.

After a fellowship in physics at Vanderbilt University, Mr. Fish worked for Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, and then took a position with Convair in Fort Worth, Texas, before returning to Tennessee as a health physicist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratories, (ORNL). He was director of the Whole Body Counter Division, which investigated the distribution of nuclear fallout in the human body, among other projects. He traveled the world representing ORNL and the Atomic Energy Commission during these years. He also completed a Master of Science Degree in Physics at the University of Tennessee in 1967, became licensed as a professional engineer, and later completed the coursework for a doctoral degree in physics. Some of his numerous scientific publications continue to be referenced today.

With a special interest in particle physics and environmental carcinogenesis, Mr. Fish also taught graduate courses at the University of Tennessee on air pollution and ran a private stack-sampling program. He worked for a number of different companies and state governments. During these years, Mr. Fish also consulted for such diverse groups as NASA and the Senators of the United States Congress.

In 1973, Mr. Fish accepted a position in Frankfort with the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection, and later moved to Lexington to work for Ephraim McDowell Cancer Research Center at the University of Kentucky. He moved to Saudi Arabia in 1983 to study environmental carcinogenesis at King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh.

Returning to the U.S. in 1985, Mr. Fish worked for Quadrex in Oak Ridge on environmental projects, and retired from a position with TVA in Knoxville in 1991.

In addition to his scientific pursuits, Mr. Fish was a talented musician, artist and poet. His home features his watercolors and a collection of musical instruments. His interests ranged from classical guitar to stride piano, and he occasionally filled in for the church organist. He was working on a book of poetry when he became ill. He has also written extensively on the history of Crab Orchard and on biblical exegesis. His hobbies ranged from lapidary to astronomy, and he loved to read and to travel. He could speak several different languages, and had studied the Greek and Hebrew texts of the Bible.

In addition to his family, Mr. Fish’s faith was most precious to him. An elder in the Christian Church for nearly 60 years, he was also an ordained minister who often filled the pulpit, and he was a student of the Bible until his death. He and his family helped to establish West Towne Christian Church in Knoxville, Tenn., and the first minister of that church, C. Scott Richmond, will preside at Mr. Fish’s services. His service will be held in his beloved home church, Crab Orchard Christian.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Crab Orchard Christian Church. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home and after 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will take place at Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Born May 25, 1934, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Ada Floyd Watts. She was a homemaker and the widow of Ernest M. Foley.

Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Lowe of London; a sister, Polly Gowen of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ernest W. Foley.

MORELAND - Izetta Corene Galloway, 79, of Loris, S.C., formerly of Moreland, died Sunday at her home.

Born Aug. 4, 1925, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late George T. and Ova Mae Allen Cochran. She was retired from Corning Glass Works in Danville, a member of Harris Creek Baptist Church and the widow of Jesse Galloway.

Survivors include two sons, J.C. Galloway and Jimmy Galloway, both of Loris; a brother, Gene Cochran of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Faye Crowe of Liberty and Betty Beals of Casey County; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Galloway Darwish.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Moreland Cemetery.

SCIENCE HILL - Clytha Ester Godbey, 86, of Waynesburg, died Friday, March 30, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Born Aug. 2, 1920, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Mary Jane Floyd Salyers.

She was a homemaker and member of Mount Olive Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Godbey; sons, Luther C. Born Aug. 11, 1918, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Cordelia Denny Lewis. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

MORELAND - Grace Ellen Sears Goode, 94, of Stanford, died Tuesday.

Born March 31, 1913, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Allie Fair Sears. She had worked as a practical nurse at Ephraim McDowell Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Powers and Howard "Buck" Goode.

She is survived by her sister, Daisy Rousey; nieces and nephews; and a friend, Mary Ann Benedict.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by G.W. Smith with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Mr. James H. Greer an aged and respected citizen of this city, died at his home on the Mo---- (illegible) road at midnight, Thursday after an illness covering a period of several months of complication of troubles. He was 73 years old and is survived by his widow and his following children; Mrs. V. H. Car---nier of this city, Mrs. J. T. Weilis of --- this state, T. M. Greer of Detroit, F. or P.?  J Greer of Perryville, and James Greer of Paris. (Parts of this article are difficult to read) Mr. Greer moved with his family from Garrard to this county ------

He conducted a blacksmith shop here many years ago and had been connected with other business en-----. He was an honorable hard working man and a splendid citizen. He attended strictly to his own business, paid his debts promptly and stood for better things of life. He united with the Methodist church many years ago but later attended the Baptist church oftener that he did the one of his own denomination.  

Funeral services were conducted at the home at 10:30 Saturday morning and burial followed in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Rev. R. L. or N. L. Hargrove, pastor of the Baptist church, officiated the service. (From the files of Joyce James Cain)

CRAB ORCHARD - Betty Jo Irvin Guinn, 70, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away Friday, March 23, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville. She was the widow of George Alvin Guinn.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1937, in Lincoln County, to Iva Reynolds Irvin and the late Joe Irvin. She was a retired seamstress for Trim Masters.

Survivors include her mother, Iva Reynolds Irvin of Broughtontown, Ky.; son, George Alvin Guinn Jr. of Crab Orchard; granddaughter, Tracy Joe Shelton of Crab Orchard; grandson, Justin Riddle of Brodhead, Ky.; great-grandson, Alexander Stidham of Crab Orchard; brothers, Billy (Lynn) Irvin of Stanford, Ky., Roger (Vicki) Irvin of Crab Orchard; and sisters, Joyce (Marion) Record of Danville, Ky., Glenda (Clyde) Moore of Junction City, Ky., and Brenda (Bobby) Thompson of Stanford. In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Kay Hammock; son, Darrell Wayne Guinn; her father, Joe Irvin; and brothers, Terry and Tommy Irvin.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery in Danville.

HAFLEY, Eugene

Eugene Hafley, former mayor of the Lincoln County town of Hustonville, died of complications from liver and lung cancer Monday at his home there. He was 81. Mr. Hafley resigned as mayor of the town of about 400 in 2002 after 25 years in office. He was known for being a fiscally responsible mayor. During his tenure, Hustonville got a new city hall and water system. He also was a retired rural mail carrier and farmer who was affiliated with Peoples Tobacco Warehouse in Danville. HANES, Elsie M. Griffin

HANES Elsie Mae (nee Griffin) was born May 14, 1918 in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, KY, daughter of James Harvey Griffin and Maymie Ethel Adams. Elsie had a brother, Ernie, and a sister, Clara and 13 half brothers and sisters. Her main social life centered on church and Sunday school.

 Elsie met Silas Ranie Hanes in her third year of high school in 1935. They graduated together in May 1937. They were married December 22, 1937 in Crab Orchard, KY. Elsie gave birth to a little baby boy on January 17, 1939, named David Michael, who did not survive. They were never able to have any more children. They both loved children and enjoyed working with youth a lot and have enjoyed spoiling several nieces and nephews. Si and Elsie worked at Procter and Gamble. They both retired from that company, Elsie with 32 years of service. Elsie was an out-going lady, a trusted friend, great cook, warm hostess, devoted to family and a Christian. They were members of Lakota Christian Church. Elsie passed on March 29, 2006.

 She is survived by her sister, Clara Harris, her brothers, Ed, Millard and Bob Hubbard and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Si of 67 years and 11 brothers and sisters. Funeral Service will be at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 7345 Hamilton Ave., in Mt. Healthy Monday at 12 Noon. Friends may call Monday from 10 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. CRAB ORCHARD - Mrs. Ethel Clark Hazelwood, 81, of Crab Orchard, passed away Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell in Danville.

She was the wife of Clarence Hazelwood, whom she married Aug. 14, 1968. She was born Sept. 18, 1925, in the Kings Mountain community of Lincoln County, to the late Walker and Suezy Bell Mills Clark. She was a former cook for White Barn Restaurant in Lancaster.

Survivors include husband, Clarence Hazelwood of Crab Orchard; daughters, Geneva (Wendell) Asberry of Lancaster and Naomi Faye (Roy) Asberry of Stanford; sons, Harold (Joyce) Warmouth of Danville and Terry Warmouth of Crab Orchard; step-daughter, Kathy Hazelwood of Princeton, W. Va.; brother, Lee (Kathy) Hazelwood of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by son, Wayne Warmouth; first husband, Robert Edward Warmouth; brothers, Raymond, Huston, Edward and Jim Clark; and sisters, Bessie Watson and Evelyn Clark.

HOGGE, Kevin P.

A 27-year-old Hustonville man died yesterday morning in a collision on Ky. 78 near Stanford. Kevin P. Hogge, an MRI technologist originally from Morehead, crossed the center line in his 1991 Isuzu Stylus as he approached a bridge at Blue Lick Creek, Kentucky State Police said. His vehicle was struck on the passenger-side by a car driven by Luis Lopez of Liberty. Mr. Hogge was pronounced dead at the scene. Lopez, 37, and a passenger, Rosa Lopez, were taken to Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.

STANFORD - Christena York Hubbard, 77, formerly of Indianapolis, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 4, 1930, in Albany, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Pearl Clark York.

She was employed as a condominium painter and vinyl hanger in Honolulu, Hawaii, for 14 years. She was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Ron Long (Cindy) of Eddyville, Mark Long (Cecelia) of Princeton, and Kelly Long (Dawn) of Cadiz; a daughter, Christy Long Hill (Ben) of Stanford; two brothers, Bill York of Gas City, Ind., and Jim York of New Castle, Ind.; two sisters, Ruby Petell of Plainfield, Ind., and Doris Hicks of Salem, Ind.; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bert Wilson and Elmer Hubbard, two sisters and one brother.

Geneva Jackson, age 80, formerly of Hamilton, died on Monday, December 22, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine, Wisconsin. Born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, on January 29, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James T. and Arlena (Turner) Mobley. She received her education in the Hamilton public schools. In 1950, in Hamilton, Geneva married Lawrence Jackson. Lawrence preceded her in death in 1992. She was employed as a paper sorter for the Champion Paper Company retiring in 1970 and she was a member of the North Seventh Street Church of Christ.

Geneva is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Jackson and her husband Gary David of Naperville, Illinois, and Susan Ramagli and her husband John of Racine, Wisconsin; grandson, Nicholas Lawrence Radmer of Naperville, Illinois; sister, Martha J. Purkey of Sidney, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Gladys Mullins and Florence Hamilton; and brothers Ross, Elbert and Frank Mobley.

Funeral Services will be held at Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton, at 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 28, 2003, with Ray S. Jones, Minister, officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Burial Park.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Michael Mullane, Dr. Carol Meils and Dr. Joseph Mathew, as well as the staff of Villa St. Anna Nursing Center and St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine, Wisconsin for their devoted care and attention given to Geneva. JAMES, John Andrew

A pail of gloom and sadness was cast over our community Wednesday, June 3^rd when it was told that John A. James had breathed his last at the home of his son on the Ottenheim Pike at Pine Grove. He had been in poor health for sometime but was not considered seriously ill until a couple of months ago. Advanced age and a complication of trouble was more than the weak form could stand and the end came about two o’clock Wednesday evening. He had told several of his friends he was prepared to meet his God. He was a member of the church of God and a good Christian man.

He was the son of Garland and Lucinda James who have long preceded him to the grave. His wife, who was Miss Julia Oakes, passed to the great beyond about thirty-five years ago. He lived with his son, mentioned above, for almost sixteen years, having conducted a small grocery store for about that long. Uncle John, as every one knew him, was clever, honest and upright in all his dealings. Had he been permitted to live until next February 3^rd, he would have been 77 years of age. And through those almost 77 years, he had the privilege of seeing nine generations, remembered his great- great, grandmother and has great- great grand children. He was the father of nine children, four of whom survive him. They are; Garland James (James Garland James), Mrs. Clarence Woods of this county, Mrs. E. H. Manuel of Richmond and Walter James of Indianapolis. A daughter, Mrs. Andy Adams preceded him to the grave in December. He was the eldest child of a family of sixteen children, all of whom have passed on before him except tow brothers; C. M. James of this place and Henry James of Louisville. Thirty nine grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, twenty nieces and nephews and a host of friends are left to mourn his going. After brief services at the home, a large crowd followed the remains to the old family grave yard where he was laid to rest by the side of his wife. Pall bearers were his grandchildren and honorary pallbearers were his nephews…A friend.

 Clara Lemon, (nee Hoskins). Age 98, Born May 24, 1907 in Crab Orchard, KY. Preceeded in death by her husband Leroy Kuno Lemon and sons, Harold Lloyd Lemon (Betty) and Michael Leroy Lemon (Debbie). She was the last surviving soul of eleven children.

Surviving are four loving children; Jeanette Pierson (Late Robert), Eloise Ellington (Late Gene), Robert Lemon (Betty), Jessie Vogel (Ronald). Also surviving are 22 precious grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren and a loving niece Hazel Miller. She enjoyed her large family and friends, and playing Bingo. She worked at the Newtown School for many years and the US Government. She was a longtime resident of Newtown and of the Newtown United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to her church or to Hospice.

Darlene Manges, 57, of Findlay, died at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. She was born on January 12, 1947 in Crab Orchard, KY to Charles and Esther (Wells) Barger, and they preceded her in death.

She married James C. Manges on February 16, 1968 and he survives.

Mrs. Manges was a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandma. She was a member of the Abiding by Faith Assembly Church, North Baltimore.

She is survived by her husband; son, Benjamin Manges; daughters, Sarah (Edward) Lowery and Christine Manges; grandchildren, Nathaniel Davis and Nicole Lowery; brother, Charles Barger of Arlington.

She is preceded in death by her parents; children, James, Ruth Ann, Beth Ann, and Cynthia Manges; brother, Lehman Barger.

STANFORD - Irene Curtis McCloud, 83, of Charleston Health Care Center in Danville, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007.

She was born Tuesday, Jan. 16, 1923, in Lincoln County, to the late Arnold and Mary Jane Dunaway Curtis. Irene was a retired employee of the Kentucky School for the Deaf, a member of McCormack Christian Church, and she enjoyed traveling and caring for her parrots.

Survivors include two brothers, Orville Curtis of Stanford and Earl Curtis of Harrodsburg; a sister, Mattie (Sam) Chandler of Vandalia, Ohio; and a half-sister, Bernice Hanson of Stanford. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde and Arnold Curtis Jr.

MORELAND - Harold Murphy, 86, of Longview Road, formerly of Casey County, died April 15 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born July 2, 1920, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Edgar and Anna May Murphy. He had been a high school teacher and principal at Cox School, and a Casey County school superintendent. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Kentucky and his master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University. He served in the Signal Corps in World War II and was a member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church. He was a pilot of his own plane for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Murphy Ellis.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Sheperson Murphy; a sister, Katherine Murphy Burris; nieces and nephews, Edgar Stanley Burris and Joe Ellis, both of Hustonville, and Brenda Nalley of Lexington and Marilyn Smothers of Stanford; great-nieces and nephews, Jennifer and Chris Burris, both of Lexington, John and James Nalley, both of Lexington, Joey Ellis of Hustonville and Mary Alice Armstrong of Monticello; and a great-great-niece and nephew, Kristen and Todd Ellis, both of Hustonville.

She was the organizer of the Archilles and Elizabeth Anderson National Family Reunion held bi-annually in Lincoln County.

Survivors include several area relatives; a son, Stephen Novotni (Rebecca) of Cincinnati; two brothers, John S. and Michael Novotni;
and a grandchild.

Much gloom and sadness fell over this community when it was learned that Mrs. W. A. Onstott, aged -- had died at the
Danville Hospital Monday afternoon about 2 o’clock. Her death comes as a shock for she was only seriously ill for a few days.
An examination was made after which all hope for her recovery was abandoned. All that human hands could do for her was done
but to no avail. Most of her life was spent in Lincoln County where she was born and reared. She was united in marriage to
Mr. W. A. Onstott January 1898. She leaves to mourn her loss the husband and six children; Elmer I  Onstott, St. Louis, Mrs.
Carl Onstott, McLean Ill., Mrs. Wesley Cooper, Stanford, Sue, Lucy and Charles Onstott , Moreland. Six grandchildren and
one sister; Mrs. Levi Elam of Crab Orchard, also survive. She united with the Christian Church in early childhood and attended as
long as health permitted. She was a kind --- good woman and the many friends here and elsewhere who loved her are grieved at
her passing. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Retired Stanford architect Foster R. Phillips, who designed many Central Kentucky buildings, died yesterday at
Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. He was 80. Phillips, who retired about 15 years ago, but worked occasionally
for friends, designed a number of schools, hospitals and business buildings. He also helped in the restoration of historical
buildings. He was instrumental in designing Stanford's Fort Logan Hospital and restoring the Ephraim McDowell House in Danville.

The Rev. William Elmore Ray, who retired after 27 years at Fairview Baptist Church in Stanford, died Friday at St. Joseph
Hospital in Lexington. He was 72. Mr. Ray, of 121 Brock Drive in Stanford, was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year
in 1984 by the Stanford-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and won a community service award in 1988 from the
Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Ray was secretary of the Stanford Lions Club and Buffalo Springs

HUSTONVILLE -- Robert Lewis Reid, 21, of Hustonville, died Tuesday, a day after his motorcycle and another vehicle
collided in Casey County. Mr. Reid was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m. at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
He died of a closed head injury, according to the Fayette County coroner's office. He was an employee of Green
River Cable Co. at Liberty, and the son of Clarence Reid and Elizabeth Propes Reid of Hustonville.

Born September 6, 1930 in Washington County, he was the son of Haldon Robinson of Lawrenceburg and the late Nettie Pearl Drury Robinson.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Theresa Ann Robinson, one brother, J. H. Robinson, and one grandson.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey and Bro. Robert E. Jones officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Funeral services were March 28 at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland with Bro. G. W. Smith officiating. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Brian and Scott Floyd, Chad Traylor, Steve Snead, Edwin Allen, Henry Richards, and Michael Coontz.

WELCH, Joe Thomas

1928-2007

STANFORD - Joe Thomas Welch, 78, of Stanford, departed this life on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

He was born Friday, June 15, 1928, in Lincoln County, to the late Clark and Lula Helm Welch. Joe (Johnny) graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Paducah College. He was a member of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War where he earned a Korean Service Medal, five Bronze Stars, U.S. Service Medal and two Overseas Service Bars.

He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Stanford. He was a former employee of the National Casket Factory and American Greetings Corp.

He is survived by two sons, Keith (Audrey) Welch of Harrodsburg and Bruce (Barbara) Welch of Stanford; four daughters, Valerie (Jimmy) Crawford of Danville, Brenda Mason of Eminence, Ky., Tina White of Danville and Chandra Baughman of Stanford; a brother, James P. (Vyvyan) Welch of Stanford; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Jacqueline L. Walker of Stanford and Charlotte Cline of Trumbull, Conn.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Clark Welch; a sister, Gertrude Welch Ingram; and a great-granddaughter, Cherish Cian Welch.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Stanford with pastors Jerry Wilkinson and Floyd Raglin officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be James "Sonny" Logan, Robert Walker, William "Billy" Brown and Sylvester "Boney" Simpson.
