CRAB ORCHARD — Charles W. Adams, 73, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011, at his home. He was the husband of Kathleen Braley Adams, whom he
married Dec. 1, 1962.
Born April 9, 1938, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was a son of the late Dollie (McClure) and Roscoe Adams. He was a member of New Hope First Church of God and a retired
employee of National Casket Co.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Adams; a son, Wendell W. (Vanessa) Adams; a daughter, Debbie (Gary) Shackleford; three grandchildren, Charles Christopher Adams and Amy
Renee and Brooke Leann Shackleford; and four brothers, Everett (Evelyn) Adams, Carlos Adams, Tom (Emily) Adams and Homer (Veretta) Adams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Ivan Adams; an infant brother, James E. Adams; and  two stillborn brothers.
The funeral  will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donald Lear. Burial will be in Simpson Cemetery.
 Pallbearers will be Wendell Brown, Tommy, Kenny and Roger Adams, Robbie Dale Mitchell and Joshua Hayes.

Marcia Lynn Alford, 70, of Stanford died at her home on Wednesday. She was born September 10, 1940 in Stanford to Virginia Zwahlen Doss and the late Matthew Doss. She was
the widow of Jack Alford. She was a deputy jailer at the Lincoln County jail for 10 years and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Pam Shearer (Eugene) and Paula Caldwell (Edd) both of Stanford; her mother, Virginia Doss of Ottenheim; two brothers, Jim Doss of Ottenheim and
Larry "Pup" Doss of Hustonville; 2 grandchildren, Hilary McElfriesh and Julie Caldwell; three great-grandchildren, Zackary McElfresh, Cheyenne Caldwell and Cash "Buster" Bramble;
she was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Jean Beatty.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-9 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, funeral service will be 11 am Saturday at the funeral home with Reverend Rob Cox officiating. Burial
will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

CAMPBELLSVILLE — Dr. J. Chester Badgett, 96, died Tuesday in Louisville.
He was a member of Campbellsville University’s Board of Trustees for 42 years, an author and served as pastor of Campbellsville Baptist Church for 30 years. He was born in Casey
County and graduated in 1931 from Stanford High School.

Survivors include three children, Tony Badgett and Ruth Ann Badgett Shaw, both of Frankfort, and Dr. Thomas Badgett of Louisville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Sue Ella Gehlhausen of Stanford.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Campbellsville Baptist Church.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the church.

Ernest E. "Pete" Blanton, 89 of Crab Orchard passed away on Monday, June 27, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of the late Lillie Jane Petrey Blanton who preceded him in
death on June 18, 1996. Ernest was born in The Copper Creek community of Rockcastle County on October 29, 1921. He was the son of the late Albert Blanton and Florence Greer
Blanton Pollard. Mr. Blanton was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during World War II. He was member of the former VFW Post 7101 of Broughtontown and the
DAV chapter 129 of Stanford. He was also a member of the Ephesus Baptist Church.

Survivors Include, His Loving Daughters: Brenda Tolley of Hamilton, Ohio & Connie Rhodus of Crab Orchard, 10 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great -Great Grandchildren
and one sister, Irene Brown of Stanford.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ernest was preceded in death by a Daughter, Shirley Blanton Frye; Brother, J.C. Blanton and a Sister, Arlie Selke.

Goshen - Jessie Breedlove, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Breedlove, who had been confined to his bed for over two months, breathed his last on Sunday Morning. Although his death had been
expected for some time, it came as a shock to his relatives and friends. Constant medical attention and careful nursing were of no avail. He never wanted for anything that loving hands could
do for him. All who knew him, loved him. He was a favorite with all  his teachers and playmates. He was laid to rest in Goshen cemetery Monday in the presence of a large number of friends
and sorrowing relatives. His teacher with all her pupils attended the interment and when the snow white casket, which held all that was mortal of dear Jessie, was hidden from view, there was
scarcely a dry eye. Being only 15 years old, life seemed full of promise and we can't see why he was taken. But God knoweth why. We wish to say to the broken-hearted father and mother
that it won't be long until you will meet your dear son in the better land where parting is no more.

Shirley Ann Carman, 46, Kings Mountain Route One, died October 25 at the Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford following a long illness.

She was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, March 21, 1931, a daughter of Manford Carman and the former Lina Campbell, both of whom survive. She was never married.

Additional survivors include three sisters, Pauline Snow and Wilma McQueen, both of Kings Mountain Route One, and Hazel Gambrel of Amelia, Ohio.

Funeral services were conducted October 28 in the chapel of Barnett Funeral Home in Waynesburg with Rev. Harry Flack officiating.

Burial was in K. P. Hall Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sandra Ann.

Survivors include her husband, Victor; a daughter, Vickie Michelle (Mark) Taylor; a brother, Wayne (Vonnie) Denham; a sister, Kathryn Newman; and two grandchildren,
Nicholas and Brittany Taylor.

Cason both of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters Linda L. Lunsford of Eubank, Deborah G. Shrewsbury and her husband Kevin of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother Roy Reynolds Jr. of Lancaster;

Dear wife of the late Walter F. Childress, she was the loving mother to Moonyeon Colville, Walter F. Childress II and Walthena Modrall; cherished sister of Thelma Bryant and Dorothy Robbins;
devoted grandmother to five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and fond aunt to three nieces and one nephew.

MORELAND — Donald Dale Coffman, 86, of Little South, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, at home.

Born June 10, 1924, in Middleburg, he was the son of the late Billy Dale and Effie Marie Luster Coffman. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of Rocky Ford Baptist
Church, a 1943 graduate of Bradfordsville High School and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Billie Evelyn Readnour Coffman; two sons, Philip Coffman of Little South and Stephen Donald (Joyce) Coffman of Lexington; a daughter, Reba Gail (Jim) Dix of
Campbellsville; a sister, Vera Fern (Billy) Cox of Bradfordsville; four grandchildren, Melissa, Marty, Amanda and Scott; and six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Andrew, Haylee, Chase, Harper and Katherine.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dorrell Coffman.

WAYNESBURG — Ola Wells Hacker, 89, died June 6, 2011, in Belleview, Fla.

Born Nov. 7, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ada Wells in Kings Creek, Ky. She was raised, met her husband and had her children while living in Parlor Grove
until 1950. She and her husband, Cecil, retired to Ocala, Fla., from New Boston, Mich., in 1988. 

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Samuel) Smith of Allen Park, Mich.; her son, Glenn (Janet) Hacker of West Branch, Mich.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Estelle Douglas and Margaret Atwood; her brother, Willis (Jean) Wells; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband, Cecil, and her brother, John Wells. She was a long time member of Grace Baptist Church of Belleview, Fla.

Ramona was born Nov. 30, 1941, in Lincoln County, Ky. She was the daughter of the late James William and Mary Josephine Stringer Hampton. She graduated from Mount
Joseph High School. Ramona worked at Gerdt Furniture. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a son, Tim Henderson; daughters Monica (Roger) Learey and Tamara (Michael) Cox; grandchildren Connor and James Learey, Mitchell and A.J. Cox, and Dillion
Michael Miller-Henderson; and nephews Jeff and Lynder Henderson.

accident on the 7th.

She was born July 5, 1946 in Casey County at Butchertown. She was a graduate of Casey High in 1964.

Surviving are her husband Lowell Arnold Lane; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Swearingen, Rt. 1, Moreland; son Timmy Lane, 3; sisters Mrs. Horace Durham, Cincinnati;
Mrs. Hershel Maddox, Rt. 1. Moreland; and brother Chester Edward Swearingen, Rt. 1, Moreland.

The funeral services were held August 10 at Pruitt Funeral Home, Moreland. Interment was in Hustonville Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD — James Otis "Bud" Martin, 80, of Stanford, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011, at the home of his daughter, Irene. He was the husband of the late Marie Harris
Martin, who preceded him in death on March 16, 2000.
Born Sept.13, 1930, he was a son of the late Frank and Delphia Woods Martin. He was a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church, a retired farmer and worked more than 20 years for Bluegrass Stockyards.

Survivors include four loving children, Bobby (Sue) Martin of Stanford, Dallas (Lisa) Martin of Stanford, Irene (Gary) Elliott of Crab Orchard and Patty Ray (Thomas Riley) of Crab Orchard;

Born Feb. 11, 1925, in Houston, Texas, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Ruth Schuler Mulroy. She was co-owner of Highland General Store.

Survivors include her son, Alben Kelly McGuffey of Stanford; daughters, Susan Reed Langford of Danville and Jacqueline Jacobs of Stanford; a sister, Patricia Owen of Maryland; five
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, and daughter, Mary McGuffey.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Highland United Methodist Church Cemetery.

McKinney - Three deaths in seven weeks is the distressing record in the family of Mr. James B. McKinney, of McKinney. First a daughter and sister was called hence, the wife and mother
and Saturday morning the husband and father answered to the final summons. Mr. McKinney's condition had been critical for months and the shock he received when Miss Lucy McKinney
died and again when his helpmeet of many years was taken from him, but shortened his earthly existence. Deceased was 59 years old, a consistent member of the Presbyterian church and a kind,
indulgent husband and father. He was a good neighbor and citizen and his death is a blow not only to his kin but to the people of his community, who lose in him an upright, just man and friend.
The loss, however, falls on the daughter, who is now the surviving member of a family which only a few months ago knew little or nothing of trouble. May a just God help her to bear the burden
of the calamities that now fall so rapidly and heavily upon her. In the presence of a large crowd of friends all that was mortal of Mr. McKinney was taken to the Hustonville cemetery Sunday
afternoon and there laid to rest by the side of the wife and daughter so recently buried. Dr. E. M. Green, a close friend of the deceased, made an appropriate talk at the grave. The burial was
an exceedingly sad one and there was scarcely a dry eye at its conclusion. In his remarks, Dr. Green mentioned the fact that flowers on one grave had barely withered and on the other were not dead,
while yet a third grave was hidden from view by beautiful flowers just gathered. His reference to Mr. McKinney, who was a great friend and admirer of Dr. Green, was exceedingly kind and pathetic,
while that to the surviving member of the family upon which death's hand has fallen so heavily was touching and beautiful.

Menefee. - Mrs. Susan Ann Menefee, the aged mother of Mr. John N. Menefee and Mrs. T. D. Newland, of this place, died suddenly of hemorrhage at the home of Mr. Menefee late Wednesday
afternoon. She was one of the oldest women in the county and had she lived until the 10 of next month, she would have celebrated her 81st birthday. Mrs. Menefee was a Miss Lynn and the
relict of Mr. Winfrey Menefee, who died in 1870. She was a most estimable woman and the many kind deeds done during her long sojourn on earth endeared her to all who knew her. Truly can
it be said of her that those who knew her best loved her most. For years Mrs. Menefee was a consistent member of the Baptist church and was a regular attendant at the services of the church as
long as her health would permit. Besides her son and daughter mentioned above she is survived by Mr. M. F. Herring, of the West End, Mrs. C. B. Sampson, of Mercer, and Mr. J. L. Menefee of
Kansas. In the absence of Rev. O. M. Huey, Rev. L. M Omer conducted funeral services at the home Wednesday afternoon and the burial followed in Buffalo cemetery. Rev. R. R. Noel
assisted in the services. Thus another of Stanford's oldest citizens passeth from life unto death, leaving many relatives and friends to mourn the loss of her.

ROCKLEDGE — Ada Lafon Edmiston Parrish, 82, born in Crab Orchard, passed away in Rockledge, Fla., on June 4.

She was the oldest daughter of the late Carroll Evan and Sarah Pettus Edmiston. She grew up in Danville and graduated from Centre College in 1950. She moved to Florida to work as a
high school English teacher in Brevard County.

 She is survived by Henry “Hugh” Parrish Jr., her husband of 59 years; their four children; and six grandchildren. She is also survived by her five sisters, Sarah Carroll (Robert) Fox of Louisville,
Mary (Richard) Grekila of Roanoke, Va., Wilma (Ernest) Bastian of Herndon, Va., Laura (David) Bischoff of Taylorsville and Jan Edmiston of Louisville.

Danville relatives include her aunt Rose Edmiston and her cousins Sallie (Herbert) Donaldson and Roy Edmiston.

She was an active member of Rockledge Presbyterian Church and a devoted student of local history. Her other affiliations included the Florida Historical Society, the Phillip Perry Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, the Brevard Heritage Council and the North Brevard Historical Society.

In 2008, the Brevard County Historical Commission, of which she was a founding member, honored her with a proclamation citing her “significant contribution to preserving local and state history,”
naming her historical commissioner emeritus. She co-authored four books which detailed the early days of Cocoa and Brevard County.

She was a lifelong collector of postcards, many of which she has donated to the Brevard County historical library. Florida themed postcards served as the subject of one of her books.  Her
life was celebrated in a service held at Presbyterian Church on June 11.

Kenneth Rowland, 45, died after three days at the McDowell Hospital, on April 14.

He was born on August 31, 1927, Lincoln Co.,  the son of Edward and Lilly Yocum Rowland. He was married to Gladys Greer on August 3, 1948. She survives.

He was the father of Mrs. Wanda Patterson, Mrs. Brenda Coffman, and Mrs. Phyliss Patterson, Hustonville; and Edward C. Rowland, at home. He was a brother to J. B. Rowland, Louisville;
Alford, Indiana; Tusko, Hustonville; Mrs. Lillian Green, Stanford; and Mrs. Emma Ruth Dishon, Waynesville.

Services were held at the Grove Ridge Church on Tuesday of this week with the Rev. Russell Gifford officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home was in charge.

Stephens.- Mr. R. P. Stephens, father of Mrs. E. L. Reinhart, of this place, died at her home Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness of a complication of troubles, aged 65, Mr. Stephens'
home was in Danville, but his wife, who was visiting her daughter, and who became ill. Besides the wife and daughter mentioned, Mrs. Will Scott, of Danville, survives Mr. Stephens.
Deceased was born in Warren county and all of his long life and been spent in this state. He was a splendid old gentleman and his friends all over Kentucky will learn with deep regret of his death.
He had been a member of the Baptist church for many years and died firm in the faith of that church's teachings. At 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon a large concourse of friends followed the remains to
Buffalo cemetery, were after a few timely remarks by Rev. O. M. Huey all that was mortal of the kind husband and indulgent father was gently laid away.

MORELAND — Lesia Ann Turpin Sumler, 46, of Indianapolis died Tuesday, June 7, 2011.
Born April 4, 1965, she was the daughter of Freda Luna Rightor and the late William George Turpin. She was a Pentecostal.

In addition to her mother, Freda (Jim) Rightor of Indianapolis, she is survived by a daughter, Hannah Marie Sumler, and a son, Justin Mitchell Sumler, both of Indianapolis; three brothers, Tony
Turpin of Hustonville, Donny Turpin of Indianapolis and Kenny Turpin of Liberty; and three grandchildren, Skyler, T.J. and Jordan.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Kenny Turpin and Kevin DePew. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenny, Tony and Donny Turpin, Steve Mullins, Kevin DePew and Tommy Wray.

Forrest Williams, 88, of Stanford died Tuesday at Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford. He was born May 5, 1923 in Kings Mountain, KY to the late Milford and Carrie Reed Williams. He was the widower
of Betty Williams, the mother of his children. He was a construction worker and attended Grace Fellowship Church.

Survivors include 7 children, Bob Williams of Florida, Tom Williams of Indianapolis, IN, Kay Gilbert of Indianapolis, IN, Mark Williams of Mexico City, Mexico, Ron Williams of Indianapolis, IN,
Danny Williams and Willie Williams both of Lafayette, IN; 7 step children, Tom Bedwell, Billy, Flo, Mary, James, Gary and Della. He is preceded in death by a brother J.J. Williams and two sisters
Beaulah Sword and Maudie Greer.

Visitation will be Friday, May 27, 2011 from 5-8 pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Funeral Service will be 1 pm Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Grace Fellowship Church with Reverend Vola Brown

STANFORD — Floyd Harlan Wrenn Sr., 79, of Stanford, died June 3, 2011. He was born in Lexington to the late Ollie Bruce and Mary Elizabeth Hubbard Wrenn and served America in the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jeanette Keel Wrenn; sons Floyd (Andrea) Wrenn Jr. and Steve H. Wrenn; daughters Linda Gullett, Donna (Bill) Tudor and Odie (Curtis) Young; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Floyd was preceded in death by nine siblings. Funeral services will be 11 a.m.  June 8, 2011, at Friendship Church. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - Lillian Adeline Oliver Greer Zwahlen, 91, of Waynesburg, Ky., passed away on Thursday, May 12th, at Golden Living Center in Stanford.

She was the widow of Guy Greer, who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1950, and Samuel Alfred Zwahlen, who preceded her in death on April 3, 2003.

Lillian was born in Moreland, Ky., on Oct. 6, 1919, a daughter of the late Richard and Edith Green Oliver. She was a graduate of Broughtontown High School and was a member
of Fairview Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School.

Ms. Zwahlen is survived by three sons, Randall Greer of Lancaster, Glendon “Bud” Greer and wife Mae of Waynesburg, Ky., and James “Jimmy” Alfred Zwahlen and wife Beverly of Canada; sister
Doris Brenda Irvine of Stanford, Ky.; four grandchildren, Jeff (Evelyn) Greer, Gerry (Lisa) Greer, Mike (Patty) Greer and Tina (Chris) Swearingen; six great-grandchildren, Ann Nicole Greer,
Corey Greer, Lauren Swearingen, Logan Swearingen, Jimmy Greer and MaKayla Greer; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband's and parents, Ms. Zwahlen was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Greer; a sister, Barbara Siler; brothers Raymond, Lester, Hugh, Malcolm, George and Corporal
James Oliver; and daughter-In-law Patsy Greer.

Services will take place 2 p.m. Wed., May 18, 2011, at Fairview Baptist Church, with Bros. Johnny Baker and Chester Cornett officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after noon on Wed., May 18, 2011, at the church.

Pallbearers will be Mike and Gerry Greer, Raymond Brenda, Jerry Zwahlen, and Timothy and Matthew Sneed. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Greer, Charlotte Bixler and Jennifer Reed.
