Frances Jenkins Anderson, 89, of Danville, died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell
Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born
Jan. 6, 1923, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Thomas
and Myrtle Wall Jenkins of Halls Gap and Stanford and the widow of the late
Chester Thomas Anderson of Halls Gap and Danville. She was a member of Calvary
Baptist Church in Danville. She retired from Corning Glass/North American
Philips after 34 years of service. She was a trophy-winning bowler on different
teams and a longtime caretaker of both of her parents, and was always there to
help the family in sickness or any way she could.
Survivors
include nephews Charles T. “Bim” Newton and Bobby K. (Gina) Newton, whom
were her caretakers, David Hartford (Brenda) Sexton, Jimmy (Margaret) Sexton,
Butch (Peggy) Jenkins and Mike Jenkins; nieces, Barbara (Woody) Randolph, Debbie
Cook, Megan (Brian) Ruth and Halee Ruth; and many more great-nieces,
great-nephews and cousins.
She
was preceded in death by two sisters, Lula Sexton of Harrodsburg and Aletha
Newton of Danville; and three brothers, Roy and Earvine Jenkins of Stanford and
Earl Jenkins of Danville.
Funeral
services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home in Danville. Rev. Ernest
Martin and Rev. Brent Rowe will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Baptist
Church Cemetery in Halls Gap.
Pallbearers
will be Charles T. “Bim” Newton, Brian Ruth, Shane Randolph, Donald Sexton,
Dale Sexton and Johnny Curlis. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby K. Newton, Megan
and Halee Ruth, David Hartford Sexton, Jimmy Sexton, Ruth Lyons, Richard Otto,
Butch Jenkins, Danny and Pat Bodner, Jewel Turner, Violet James, Georgia
McGuffey, Mildred Baird, Dorothy Boyd, Nan McCowan and Frank and Joyce Prewitt.

will be 5-8 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m-12:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at
the funeral home.

ANDERSON, Ind. — Anna Elizabeth Duncan Baldwin, 81, of Anderson, Ind., died Wednesday, May 2, at her residence.
Born Nov. 19, 1930, in Hustonville, Ky., Elizabeth was a daughter of the late Bradford and Iris Wells Duncan.
Survivors include her husband, Frederick Baldwin; four daughters, Sandy (Mike) Frye, Cheryl (Larrett) Shafer, Susan (Hervey) Lawrence and Cathy (John) Smith; three sisters, Pauline Hazlett of Stanford, Ky., Almeda Hazlett of Ohio, and Faye Reed of Moreland, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were May 5 at East Maplewood Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Barry (Karen) Benedict and Delmar Benedict Jr., and three daughters, Lisa Benedict, Lillie White and Kristy Benedict, and their mother, Helen Benedict, all of Danville; 10 grandchildren, Mandy, Matt, Zack, Brandon, Nick, Kala, Chris, Sara, Derek and Ky’Lece; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home, with burial in Moreland Cemetery.

Charles Regis Bender, 71, of Hustonville, KY, formerly of Baltimore, MD, went to meet his Lord and Savior Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Son of the late Regis and Virginia Bender, he was born August 8, 1940, was a Army Veteran, and was retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a loving father and grandfather and his family will truly miss him.
He is survived by 3 daughters: Sherry Noss (David) of Clarksburg, WV; Lori Pike (Ron) of Danville, KY; Lana Campbell (Clay) of Junction City, KY, 2 sons: Charles G. Bender of Hustonville, KY; and Eric Bender (Jennifer) of Liberty, KY, 14 grandchildren: Ryan Francois, Kara Gillespie (Jordan), Matthew Noss, Shay Noss, Jacob Pike, Seth Frazier, Ty Noss, Chance Bender, Jenna Bender, Connor Bender, Chezni Campbell, Kaylee Wray Bender, Derek Sallee, Jana Wilson, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Chuck G. Berry, 50, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Chuck was born April 17, 1962 in Jefferson County, Kentucky to Agnes Kindred Berry and his late father Joe L. Berry.
Chuck was an avid car enthusiast having owned several classic cars and most recently enjoying his yellow and black 1969 Camaro SS.
Along with his mother, Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Tanisha Taylor Berry, one daughter, Ashlee (Daniel Fulton) Cain Berry; one son, Joseph Berry; and two sisters, Faye Wright and Melody (Jerry) Norris.
Funeral services will be held graveside at 11 a.m. Thursday June 14, 2012 at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY with the Rev. Donald Potts officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home today.

STANFORD — Juanita Allen Blair, 71, of Waynesburg, Ky., died Monday, May 14, 2012, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky.
Born Sept. 20, 1940, in Magoffin County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Ressie Joseph Allen. She was a homemaker, attended the Church of God and was the widow of Joseph G. Blair.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Gilmore Blair Jr. (Jan Rose) of Stanford, Ky.; a sister, Freda Shilot of Keneva, W.V.; brother-in-law, Landis Ray Blair; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and James Allen.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Spurlin Funeral Home. The Rev. David Gambrel will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Sylvester Catholic Church Cemetery.

She was born March 20, 1960 in Stanford, KY and was the daughter of Rosa Lee Boone and the late C. Daniel Boone. She was in the insurance business for over 20 years and was a member and past elder and deacon of the Stanford Christian Church. She was also a member of Tri-Delta Sorority, DAR, was a KY Colonel, attended Transylvania University, University of Kentucky, and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Grace Luscher, and her mother, Rosalea Boone, both of Stanford, KY.
Visitation will be Thursday at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel (Stanford) from 5-9pm. Funeral services will be held at the Stanford Christian Church on Friday. Visitation starts at 10am, funeral will begin at 1pm and will be officiated by Reverends Stewart Dawson, Lee Graham, Joe Cooper, and Jim Baughman. Viola Y. Carpenter, 84, of Stanford, KY died Friday, May 25th, at Golden Living Center in Stanford, KY. She was born November 17th, 1927 in Benham, KY. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Margaret Joseph, the widow of the late John A. Carpenter. She was a seamstress for over 60 years having worked at Cowden's in Stanford, KY and Capp Uniforms in Lexington, KY
She is survived by two sons, Calvin Carpenter (Roxie) of Perryville, KY, Al Carpenter (Sharon Magnetta) of Waynesburg, KY, and one daughter Brenda Carpenter also of Waynesburg, KY. Three brothers, Bill Joseph of Mascot, MI, Raymond Joseph of Waynesburg, KY, and Bob Joseph of Redding, OH. Nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Jim Joseph and one sister Charlene Hensley.
Visitation will be Monday, May 28th, from 5-9p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home (Stanford). Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 29th at 2p.m. also at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel (Stanford). hunting, fishing and riding around in his RTV.

Hubert Lee “Blue” Elder, 87, of Junction City, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2012, at home.
Mr. Elder was born in Lincoln County, Ky., a son of the late
Odis and Pearl Maupin Elder. Blue loved to collect knives, work in his vegetable
garden, fish, raccoon hunt, watch NASCAR
and above
all, loved spending time with his family.
For most of his adult life he was a construction worker. He
was employed by Salsman Brothers of Bardstown, Ky., performing bridge
construction; for the last 20 years he worked for N.H.
Stone of Mount Sterling; and he retired from Flenco Construction Co. also of
Mount Sterling.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Naomi Rousey Elder; five brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Sue Elder and Betty Jane Perry, both of Junction City; two grandchildren, Janet (Chad Riley) Henson of Junction City and Michael (Shannon) Henson of Harrodsburg; two great- grandchildren, Brittany (Brandon) Murphy and Hunter Vandivier, both of Junction City; three great-great-grandsons; and three step great-great-grandsons; a brother, Clysten Elder of Danville; and a sister, Lena Cross of Danville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Leon "Buck" Gooch, 69, of McKinney, KY, died at home Monday, May 21, 2012. He was born January 7, 1943 in Kings Mountain, KY. He was the son of the late Lena Gooch, was a retired heavy equipment operator for Davis H. Elliott electrical company, and was a member of Geneva Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Eva Yocum Gooch, one son, William "Bill" Gooch, two daughters Margaret Gooch, and Lisa Wilham (Otis "Bubba"), all of McKinney, KY. Other survivors include one brother Bobby Gooch and one sister Vangie Gastineau of Kings Mountain, KY. He also had three grandchildren, Cody Crowley, Sondra Wilham and James Wilham; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, May 24th, 2012 from 5-9 p.m. and funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25th, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Gary Yocum officiating. Born April 23, 1945, she was a daughter of the late William Edward and Edith Irene Smith Adams.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Bill Edward Griffith; a son, Eddie (Christy) Griffith; two daughters, Carol Griffith and Connie (Jonathan) Dewit; two brothers, Billy and Bobby Adams; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, all of Stanford. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Bowmer.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Jim Brookfield. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

STANFORD — James Lee Hale, 89, of Stanford, Ky., died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at his home.
He was a son of the late Monte and Alla Mae Hale, and was the widower of Mary Alene Godbey Hale. He was a carpenter and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, William F. Hale (Rona) of Stanford; two daughters, Norma States (Joe) of Versailles, Ky., and Barbara Rice (Lloyd) of Waynesburg, Ky.; five sisters, Janie Cook (Dale) and Roberta Martin, both of Indianapolis, Ind., Virginia Ferguson (Matthew), Lucille Griffin and Alberta Woods (Lewis), all of Stanford; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Robert Hale; and two sisters, Bertha Steele and Patricia Hale.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Spurlin
Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Gary King and Johnny Baker officiating.

Bell Davis Kimberling.
A 1964 graduate of Stanford
High School, his career spanned 27 years in U.S.
Air Force and Army, and 12 years at Northpoint Training Center. He was
predeceased by his first wife, Linda H.
Kimberling, and three brothers, Lewis, William and Paul Kimberling.
He
is survived by his wife, Laura Bell York Kimberling; a daughter, Kellee Lynn
Kimberling of Otis, Mass.; a step-son, Tommy (Kim) Cummins Jr. of Hustonville;
three step-daughters, Jan (Marvin)
Lane and Renee (Elbert) Cox, both of Hustonville, and Pam (James) King of
Lancaster; two sisters, Verda Nell Goode of Junction City and Ella Sue (Jerry)
Watkins of Tennessee; a brother,
Deverett Kimberling of Stanford; a granddaughter, Avery Lin Carr; eight
step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and

funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Willow Grove Baptist Church. Burial
will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Beulah Hoskins Lewis, 68, of the Highland community, passed away Friday at the Golden Living Center.
Born in Bell County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late James and Laura Taylor Hoskins.
Beulah was a teacher for 32 years, 26 of those years at
Highland Elementary School, and a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
She took great pride in watching her students learn to read.
She was a member of Mount Moriah Christian Church.
Beulah leaves behind her loving husband, Larry D. Lewis of
Highland; a son, Charlie (Jill) Lewis of Stanford; two daughters, Suzanne
(Scott) Montgomery of Stanford and Laura Beth Lewis
of Danville; a brother, Paul (Jauana) Hoskins of East Tawas City, Mich.; two
sisters, Betty (Harold) Jeffery of Norwood, Ohio, and Evelyn Robbins of Mount
Washington; five grandchildren,
Gentry and Peyton Lewis, Ryan Montgomery, Ethan Lewis and Savannah Carver.
Beulah was preceded in death by six brothers, Elmer, Luther, Jack, Millard, J.M., G.W. and Bill Hoskins, and a sister, Irene Wilson.

Born May 5, 1946, he was a
son of the late Norma Baker Long Stein and Richard Albert Long. He was a U.S.
Air Force veteran and served with the American
Legion and VFW Post 7101. He was a farmer,
a member of Blue Lick Baptist Church and a retired Norfolk
Southern railroad engineer.
David was the beloved
husband of 45 years of Betty Jo Denham Long. He also is survived by two
daughters, Pamela Jo Wesley and Jamie Ann Young; one son, David Archer Long II;
three brothers,
Clark “Shorty” Long, Irvin “Tob” Long and John Long; one sister, Brenda
Sue Taylor; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William H. "Bill" Messer, 71, of Somerset, passed away Sunday, April 22, at his residence.
Born Nov. 13, 1940, in Crab Orchard, Bill was a son of the
late James William and Elizabeth Siler Messer. He spent three years in the
United States Army as Sgt. 1st Class with the 101st Airborne Division
as a paratrooper and six years in the Army reserves.
Bill retired from the United States Postal Service after 40
years of service as a mail carrier, supervisor, manager, superintendent and as
an officer in charge in a number of post offices, including Lexington.
At the time of retirement, he was manager of the post office operations district
domiciled in Somerset for the Southeastern area of Kentucky. He was a Kentucky
Colonel, a lifetime member of VFW, a member of the American Legion Post #38,
where he served as rifle squad commander for the honor guard and a past
president of South Lexington Lions Club. Bill enjoyed farming, traveling,
gardening and being with his family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son, William R. "Ronnie" Messer; grandparents, Henry and Martha Messer; two brothers, Donald Ray and Dwight Messer; and one sister, Patricia Messer Wiggington.
Survivors include his wife, Zelma Mullins Messer of Somerset, whom he married on July 8, 1961; and one brother, Thomas H. (Joyce) Messer of Crab Orchard.
Funeral services were April 27 at Morris & Hislope Funeral
Home in Science Hill with Rev. Gilbert Robinson and Chaplain Clarence Floyd
officiating. Burial was in Mill Springs National
Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #38.

Charles Samuel Newton, 87, of Danville, Ky., died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was the widower of Aletha Jenkins Newton.
Born Nov. 14, 1924, in Franklin County, Ky., he was the son of the late Charles Thomas and Lula League Newton of Harrodsburg, Ky. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a loving husband, dad, papaw and great-papaw. His hobbies included woodworking, antiquing and collecting coins. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a Korean War veteran. He was retired after 34 years of service from Corning Glass/North American Phillips in Danville.
He was predeceased by his wife, Aletha; two sisters, Octavia and Josephine Newton; and a brother, Nelson Newton.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Thomas Newton and Bobby Keith (Gina) Newton; a granddaughter, Megan Newton (Brian) Ruth; and a great-granddaughter, Halee Madison Ruth, all of Danville; two sisters, Martha Combs of Lexington and Georgia Bradley of Perryville; and many nieces and nephews.

S.C. was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Overstreet Reed. Schmiers of Broughtontown; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Richard Henry Schmiers.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Bro. Darrell Gentry. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery.

Mark Anthony Snyder, 21, of Waynesburg, passed away Monday, May 22, 2012, in Danville.
Born June 30, 1990, in Stanford, Ky., he was the son of Tony
and Jeanna Ann Douglas Snyder. He was an employee of Deco Art in Stanford and a
graduate of Lincoln County High School.
He was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church and he enjoyed fishing, four
wheeling, deer hunting and working on his old truck.
Other survivors include his maternal grandparents Frances
Brown and Johnny Douglas, both of Stanford; paternal grandmother, Bessie Snyder;
aunt, Lisa (Jerry) Saylor; uncles, Jack (Kristy) Douglas
and Doug (Ramona) Snyder; and cousins, Kara Nicole Douglas, Cody Snyder, Jordan
Saylor and Kelsey Snyder.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at
Hebron Baptist Church, Ky. 1948, Waynesburg, officiated by Bro. Casey McClure
and Bro. Travis Farris. Burial will be in
Mount Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery

Ollie Eugene “Gene” Southerland, 76, of Maxey Valley, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012, at home.
Born July 13, 1935, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Mary Etta Rayborn Southerland. Gene was a Christian and a retired mechanic. He enjoyed mowing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Effie Southerland; four daughters, Linda Douglas, Bonnie (Curtis) Evans, Glenda (Paul) Smith and Kathy Southerland; a son, Michael (Debbie) Southerland; two sisters, Margaret Maxey and Pat (Joe) McCowan; eight grandchildren, Michelle Bonham, Shaun and Derek Southerland, Ashley Dunn, Amanda Smith, Christopher and Nikki Gooch, and Samantha Douglas; and a great-granddaughter, Isabella Bonham.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dollie “Dimple” Simpson and Mable Carey; his son-in-law, Billy Ray Douglas; and his brother-in-law, Roy Maxey.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. James Harley, with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Bernie Marie Atkins Sowders, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Golden Living Nursing Home in Stanford, Ky.
Born Tuesday, April 5, 1927, in Stanford, Ky., she was a
daughter of the late Archie and Miranda Sears Atkins. She was the widow of Craig
Sowders. She was a member of Stanford Baptist Church and a
retired certified nursing assistant at Fort Logan Hospital.
She also was preceded in death by a brother Archie Atkins Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn McClure, and a son, Kim
(Karen) Sowders, both of Stanford; three grandchildren, Terry (Ellen) McClure
and Karen (Tony) Morgan, both of Stanford, and
Christopher Sowders of Danville; five great-grandchildren, Jessica and Austin
McClure and Autumn, Justice and Keigan Morgan; and her beloved cat, Lady.
Services for Bernie will be 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at Fox
Funeral Home by the Rev. Johnny Adamson. A committal service will be 10 a.m.
Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Emma Katherine Stewart, 84, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, June 9, 2012, at the Emory Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Ga.
Emma was born Nov. 12, 1927, to the late Robert Stewart and
Verlie Grider Stewart in Stanford, Ky. When she was a pre-teen and her parents
passed away, she was raised by her Aunt Margie
and Uncle Tink Perkins.
Emma was an active member of First Missionary Baptist Church
until her health began to fail. Emma leaves to continue her legacy a son, James
“Buddy” (Connie) Stewart of Lexington; and daughter
Regina Graves Williams of Lawrenceville, Ga.; six dear grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be noon Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Stanford.

1928 in Iroquois County, IL to the late James L. and Ethel Hendricks
Sutton. He was an Army Veteran and retired from the Bluegrass Army Depot in
Avon, KY. He was a Baptist by faith.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Martha Dodd
Sutton of Crab Orchard, KY; three sons, Michael Sutton of Lancaster, KY, Larry
Sutton of Nicholasville, KY and David Sutton of
Lancaster, KY; two sisters, Retha King of Danville, KY and Betty Messenger of
Lexington, KY; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; he is preceded in
death by a daughter,
Patricia Sutton, two brothers and two sisters.

in Danville, KY. He was born July 15, 1927 in Lincoln County and was the son of
the late Lucien and Myrtle Wilcher. He was a Veteran
of the Korean War, an employee of the old state hospital in Danville, and was
retired from Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was a member of the
Green River Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Alma Lay Wilcher,
two sons; Jackie Wilcher and Terry Wilcher (Michelle), and one daughter; Vicky
Long Privett (Dale) all of McKinney, KY; two sisters; Nellie Williams
(Robert) of Rushville, IN and Joyce Moyer (Jack) of New Whiteland, IN, seven
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by three brothers
Wallace Wilcher, Lewis Wilcher, and J.B. Wilcher.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 23 from 5-9p.m. and
funeral services will be Sunday, June 24 at 1 p.m. with Reverend Rick Naylor
officiating. Both the visitation and funeral services will be held at the
Green River Pentecostal Church in McKinney, KY. Burial will be in Buffalo
