Samuel Duvall Bastin "Rambo", 74, of Stanford died July 5, 2012 at EMRMC. He was born on September 4, 1937 to Holly Ray & Ethel Robinson Bastin in Stanford, KY. He was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church and retired from the Army in 1975, after 2 tours in Vietnam, proudly serving his country for 21 years. He received 2 bronze stars and the Army Commendation medal. He was a past commander and lifetime member of the John Logan American Legion Post 345 Stanford, VFW Post 3634 in Danville, and he was a KY Colonel. One of his favorite past times was hanging out at Dairy Queen having coffee with his friends.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Sharon Baker (Danny) of Lancaster, KY, Karen Sowders (Kim) of Stanford, KY, 2 sons; Samuel D. Bastin II (Shannon) of Danville, KY, Ray Bastin of Sacramento, CA, and their mother Pauline Goode Hopkins. 2 step-daughters; Anita Floyd (Richard) of Waynesburg, KY, Nancy Baker (Jeff) of Stanford, KY, and their mother Joyce Miracle Durham Bastin also of Stanford, KY. 5 grandchildren; Christopher Sowders, Kristyn Bastin both of Danville, KY. Leslie & Molly Baker of Lancaster, KY, and Daniel Bastin of Lexington, KY. 2 step-grandchildren; Rachael Floyd of Waynesburg, KY and Zach Baker of Stanford, KY. 2 great-grandchildren; Ethan & Maishaun Baker both of Lancaster, KY. 2 sisters; Dean Anding of Bay Springs, MS & Ann Endress of Oxford, OH, and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Dale, William, John, and Truman Bastin. 3 sisters; Ray Jean McClure Weaver, Mary Phillips, and Bessie Allen.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 8 from 1-4pm with funeral following. Rev. Johnny Adamson will be officiating. Burial will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery on Monday, July 9 at 10am.

Hartford J. Boyle, 85, of Crab Orchard, formerly of Moreland, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012.
Born Oct. 10, 1926, near Moreland, Ky., he was a son of the late Clarence and Amanda Jones Boyle. After graduating from Moreland High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the ending of World War II. Hartford gave his life to the Lord many years ago. He was a longtime member of the Church of God and more recently worshiped in the congregation at Crab Orchard Christian Church. He was a masonry contractor for more than 45 years, owner of Boyle Masonry, and a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Lois Mae Boyle; brother, Justin Boyle; and sister, Elgeva Boyle Husar.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Wyler Boyle of Crab Orchard; four children, Ronald W. (Anita) Boyle of Moreland, Iris (David) Routenberg of Vienna, Va., Dwight (Eulene) Boyle of Nicholasville and Kindra (Glenn) Stark of Frankfort; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter; a step-granddaughter; and three step- great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Dale Hunt, minister of Crab Orchard Christian Church, with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Jeremy Boyle, Jason Boyle, Josh Boyle, Brett Boyle, Bryan Boyle, David Routenberg and Timothy Stark. Honorary pallbearers are Janet and Neil Kendrick, David Routenberg, Glenn Stark and his granddaughters, Brittany Boyle, Amanda Burton and Kerry Love.

Chandler, 79, of Vandalia, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012.
Born
April 24, 1933, in Stanford, she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Mamie
Curtis, and the widow of Samuel Chandler. Mattie retired from Northridge Local
Schools after 26 years of loyal service.
Mattie
is survived by her son, Jimmy (Diane) Chandler; her daughter, Yevonne (Greg)
Goodner; four grandchildren, Jesse Chandler, Cole Chandler, Katie Goodner and
Sarah Goodner; five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Colin, Kelsey, Henley and
Emerson; and two brothers, Orville Curtis and Earl Curtis.
Mattie
was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Hanson and Irene McCloud; and two
brothers, Clyde Curtis and Arnold Curtis.
A
funeral service was Saturday at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road,
Dayton, Ohio, where the family received friends for one hour prior to the
service. Burial followed at Shiloh Park Cemetery.

March 31, 1971, she was a daughter of Marilyn Dean Yocum of Stanford and Jerry
Belcher of Junction City. She was a 1989 graduate of Lincoln County High and
attended Eastern
Kentucky University. She was employed by Hitachi
of Harrodsburg for the past 22 years and was the finance and accounting manager.
In addition to her parents, she is survived
by her husband of 22 years, James Robert Cheatham; two sons, Christopher and
Benjamin Cheatham, both of Hustonville; a brother, James
Boyd Jr. of Stanford; three sisters, Nancy Denham of Stanford,
Katherine Belcher of Lexington and Penny Yocum of Lancaster; and her paternal
grandfather, Sam Belcher. She was preceded in death by her brother, Barry Joe
Dean.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Johnny Thompson. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Thomas B. Cochran, 92, of Hustonville, met his Lord and Savior, Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012.
Born Feb. 15, 1920, he was the son of the late Ernest Beeler and Mamie Martin Cochran. He was a U.S. Army, World War II veteran who landed at Utah Beach on D-Day. Tom was co-owner and operator of Cochran and Rousey Realty and a member of Hustonville Baptist Church for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luvian Whitis Cochran, and his brother, Lewis Cochran.
Survivors include his two sons, Joseph L. (Beverly) Cochran of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and William Thomas (Holly) Cochran of Clermont, Fla.; a brother, Burton Cochran of Hustonville; a sister, Leta Gray Ashley of Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren, Rachel Stokes and Luke Cochran; and a great-grandchild, Finley Stokes.

Born April 28, 1918, he was a son of the late Robert and Mealie Brown Coffman. He was a member of Geneva Baptist Church and U.S. Navy veteran . His passion was being with his family, and his love of horses and wagon rides.
Dewey was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Beatrice Hatter Coffman; and by three daughters, Jewell, Shirley and Jereline; two brothers and a sister.

July 18, 1914, in Greencastle, Ind., she was the daughter of the late
James and Mayme Young. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers,
Buster, Leonard and Glenn Young; a son,
Dannie Croft, and daughter, Nancy Davis.
She
was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton, Tenn. Helen will be
remembered for her forgiving spirit, generous hospitality and total devotion to
her family. She was a
beloved mother, grandma and great-grandma.
Survivors include her son, Charles Croft of Dandridge, Tenn.;
daughters, Eleanor May of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Mary Sautter of Sylvania,
Ohio, Bonnie Jones of Louisville, Tenn., and
Peggy Smith and Ann Walden, both of Lenoir City, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren.

Born May 20, 1943 in Shelby County, KY to the late Hollis and Clara Dean, he was a Marine Corp Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War, worked for Whirlpool Inc., was a member of American Legion Post 346 and loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Edith Dean of Stanford, KY, 1 son; James Vernon Dean II of Perryville, KY, 1 daughter; Dana Veronica Mize of Salvisa, KY, 1 brother; Tony Dean of Vinegrove, KY, 1 sister; Jean Yocum of Stanford, KY, 2 grandchildren; Sierra Grace Dean and Zaden DiNardo, 1 adopted grandchild; Sadie Gonzalez, 2 step-grandchildren; Devon Britton and Destiny Boyd, and several nieces and nephews. daughters, Scena Ann (Willie) Petrey of Stanford and Mina Sue (Doug) Lane of
Nancy; a son, Leroy Goetz (Mary Ann) of Waynesburg; six grandchildren, Brad
Petrey, Kevin Goetz, Kathy Peek, Jamie Waddell, Keith Goetz and Jeremy Goggin;
10 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three nephews; and two

Bill Harris, 77, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at his residence.
Born Feb. 14, 1935, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was a son of the late William Pearl “Buddy” Harris and Martha Baugh Harris Wesley. He worked at Perdue Saw Mill and was self-employed as a log truck driver. He attended Olive Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed and was loved very much by everyone.
Survivors include his wife of 60 wonderful years, Roxie Willena Norris Harris, whom he married on March 27, 1952; a daughter, Linda Lou (David) Walls; daughter-in-law, Johnnie Harris (Stanley) Riddle; five grandchildren, Billy Walls, Jimmy (Anna) Walls and Eric (Abbie) Harris, all of Waynesburg; Bart (Melissa) Harris of Stanford and Becky Harris Long of North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren, Tara Harris, Caleb Harris, Vincient Harris, Collin Harris, Sophie Harris, Amber Long, Tabi Long and Katie Riddle; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mack “Haney” Vaughn of Monticello.

Delbert A. Hawkins Sr., 92, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Geneva Weaver Hawkins, whom he married on Nov. 25, 1939.
Born Nov. 2, 1919, in Clintwood, Va., he was a son of the late John Horace and Bessie Lane Hawkins. He was the owner and operator of the Hawkins Building Supply, which he founded in 1945. He was a faithful member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church since 1952, had served as a deacon and had been a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 636 of Crab Orchard and a former member of the Lincoln County Ambulance Board. He also served as a former chairman of the East End Ambulance Service from 1972 until 1996. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, a caring brother and a loyal friend to many.
Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Geneva Hawkins of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Jestine G. (Clarence) Shelton of Crab Orchard and Christine F. and (Royce) Killen of Stanford; a son, Delbert A. "Buddy" Hawkins (Clara Faye) of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Thetta Denney of Crab Orchard and Loretta (Johnny) Connor of Science Hill; two brothers, Elmer Hawkins (Libby) of Columbus, Ind., and Felmer Hawkins of Eubank; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

SOMERSET — Bishop Donald Lee McCormack, 68, entered into his season of rest on Friday, June 29, 2012.
Born Jan. 16, 1944, in Stanford, he was a son of the late Katherine Louis Cooper and Archie McCormack. He grew up in the community of Bowen, which he always spoke of with heartfelt memories. He had worked from 1977 to 1997 at Centre College in Danville, Ky.
He will be missed by his surviving brother, Alfred L. McCormack; and nephew, Rick Alexander, for whom he was caregiver until his health declined. He also leaves to cherish his memory his mother-in-law, Mary Tooley; stepdaughter, Delinda Newell, and her husband, Sean; a grandson, Savion Newell; a brother-in-law, Sebastian “Dusty” Walker; special friends, Joseph and Christina Moreno; a host of nieces and nephews; and many church associates and friends.

March 29, 1943, in Stanford, she was a daughter of the late David and Ruby
McGuffey Young. She had worked as secretary for Stanford High School, as a
nurse/lab technician for 25 years in Stanford, and retired after 18 years as a
Lincoln County Courthouse employee, serving in the positions of secretary,
payroll clerk and deputy judge-executive. Pat was a member of Stanford Baptist
Church and a Kentucky Colonel.
An
infant daughter, Janice Montgomery, preceded her in death.
Pat
will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother,
friend and much more.

include her husband of 51 years, Bob Montgomery; a son, Scott (Suzanne)

Born April 5, 1926, in Wheelwright, Ky., he was the son of the
late Wallace B. and Rosie Johnson Mullins. He was a retired truck driver for
Burton Truck Lines. Jim was a
veteran of the United
States Army Air Force, having served as a sergeant in World
War II.

Richard “Leon” Platzeck, 75, of Crab Orchard, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, Ky.
Born Oct. 19, 1936, in Crab Orchard, Ky., he was a son of the late John and Rosa Bryant Platzeck. In 1960, he married Ina Martin in Sioux City, Iowa, and they had three children together, Richard Jr., Martin and Teresa.
In 1970, he married Jan Sheffield in Louisville, Ky. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. After being discharged, he attended Jefferson Community College. A talented machinist, he spent his career working at International Harvester before retiring from Naval Ordinance to his family farm in Crab Orchard. He enjoyed spending his retirement working on his farm, gardening and fixing anything mechanical.
Survivors
include two sons, Richard Platzeck Jr. of Cupertino, Calif., and Martin (Janine)
Platzeck of Hornick, Iowa; a daughter, Teresa (Steven) Linscott of West Concord,
Minn.; three grandchildren, Trevor Platzeck, Shannen Platzeck and Rachael
Linscott; a sister, Pauletta Platzeck (Gary) Beller of Indiana; and his special
friend, Virginia Metcalf.
In
addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his niece, Jennifer
Johnson.
Services
will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel. Burial
will be in The Old Lutheran Reformed Cemetery in Ottenheim.

grandchildren. She was preceded in death

Simpson, 68 of Hustonville died Saturday, August 4, 2012. Born November 25,
1943, he was the son of the late Gibson Simpson and Erma Brown
Simpson Terrell. He was retired from Stanley Jones Corporation in South Fulton,
TN. He was involved with the Boyle County Fish and Game Club and the Kentucky
Long Rifle Association and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Don was a loving father and
grandfather and a dedicated husband. He is survived by his wife of 48 years,

Flora Taylor, 89, of McKinney, the widow of Amos Taylor, died Friday at her home.
Born Oct. 7, 1922, in Madisonville, Ky., she was a daughter of
the late Ira and Eva Ipock. Mrs. Taylor was a retired machine operator and a
member of McKinney Baptist Church
where she taught Sunday school for 25 years.
Survivors include one grandson, Shannon (Kellie) Britt of
McKinney; one granddaughter, Lena (Mark) Tate of Bradfordsville; two sisters,
Vada Powell and Hadie Brock of Dawson Springs; and four
great-grandchildren, Cheyanne and Austin Britt, and Sarah Grace and Jacob Owen
Tate.
A son, Johnny Taylor Britt, a daughter-in-law, Nora Britt, two brothers and three sisters, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford with the Rev. Mark Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

member of the Women's III Sunday School Class.

"Bill" Vanhook. She was a housewife and a member of the Green River
Pentecostal Church.
She is survived by 1 son; Noel Vanhook (Tiffany) of
Indianapolis, IN, 4 daughters; Ellen Hunkins (Ron) of Stanford, KY, Shelia
Martin (Huston) of Kings Mountain,
KY, Joan Durham of Cincinnati, OH, and Leesa Vanhook of Russell Springs, KY. She
is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, a host of
great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was
preceded in death by 2 sons; Darryl and Billy Vanhook, 2 sisters; Morene
Willis and Luna Walls; and 3 siblings who died at a very young age.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 12 from 5-9 p.m. and
funeral services will be Friday, July 13 at 1 p.m. Both the visitation and
