Stanley Freebert Asberry, 66, of Lancaster, KY passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at Baptist Health in Lexington, KY. He was born April 5, 1947 to the late James and Bertha Lane Asberry. He was a farmer and a member of the Pentecostal Faith.

Survivors include his wife Lizzie Moore Asberry, four sons; Randy Asberry (Jenny), Jeff Asberry, Danny Asberry (April) all of Lancaster, KY and Rodney Asberry (Carrie) of Highland, KY, four daughters; Rhonda Miller (Travis) of Lexington, KY, Shonda Stevens (Charlie McQuerry) of Lancaster, KY, Karen Tinsley (Tim) of Greeneville, SC, Wendy Asberry of Lancaster, KY, five brothers; Charles, Jimmy, Ricky, Donald, and Roy Asberry, six sisters; Carrie Floyd, Roberta Long, Barbara Long, Kathy Long, Peggy Hale, and Shelia Asberry, twenty nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson; Jeffery Tyler Asberry, two brothers; Wendell Asberry, Bobby Asberry, one sister; Myrtle Delaney, and one infant sister; Freida Asberry.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 5-9pm. Funeral will be Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 2pm with Brother Gene Sneed officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.

James H. “Jimmy” Baughman, 55, of Huntsville, Ala., passed away Mon., March 18, 2013, at his residence.

Jimmy had a career as a musician playing drums in various bands in Alabama and Georgia over the past 35 years. His musical career included performing at venues in the Southeast as well as
providing percussion tracts during studio recording sessions in Nashville.

Jimmy enjoyed writing and playing his music with a broad network of close friends located in Alabama and the Atlanta area. In addition to music, Jimmy had a remarkable knowledge of cars, motorcycles and auto racing. Some of Jimmy’s best memories of visiting Hustonville during his youth involved the many hours he spent tagging along with his Uncle Sam as he made his daily stops around Lincoln County.

Survivors include his father, John H. Baughman; a sister, Ann (Steve) Porter; and two nieces, Becky Porter and Allison Porter.

A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Hustonville Cemetery.

John Thomas "Toba" Brown, 81, of Waynesburg, KY died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Stanford, KY. He was born May 5, 1931 in McKinney, KY to the late Steven Willis and Dora Naylor Brown. He was the widower of Leona Jenkins Brown. He was a farmer and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sons, Mike Brown (Marti) and Sammy Brown (Crystal) both of Waynesburg, KY; his fiancé' ; a brother, Albert Vernon Brown (Ellen) of McKinney, KY; two sisters, Emma King and Catherine Owens (James) both of McKinney, KY; four grandchildren, Melissa Marsh (Jim), Morgan Brown, Nick Brown (Crystal) and Misti Viandes (Jeromy); a step grandson, Chris Cole; six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley Toddie Brown, Ernest Brown and a sister, Mamie Privett.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10, 2013, from 5-8 pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Stanford, funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Spurlin Funeral Home. Reverend Chris Taylor will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery,

Betsy Pettus Bradshaw Bryan, 86, of Lexington, KY died Tuesday, April 2, 2013. She was born October 29, 1926 in Delray Beach, FL to the late John Rodman and Elizabeth Pettus Bradshaw. She was the widow of Robert Charles Bryan. She was a wife and mother, she was a member of the Crestwood Christian Church Disciples of Christ and she was a member of the D.A.R.

Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Ruth Bryan of Fairfax, VA, Margaret Bryan Champion of Greencastle, IN and Marie Bryan Weaver of Elizabethtown, KY; a brother, John Rodman Bradshaw of Danville, KY and a sister, Julia Ann Young of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren, Georgia Carol Holko, James Robert Champion, Elizabeth Michelle Boucher, John Christopher Weaver and Andrea Elizabeth Weaver; two great-grandchildren, Charles Michael Boucher and Bryan Martin Holko.

Visitation and funeral service will be Friday, April 5, 2013. Visitation beginning at 11 am until 1 pm, funeral begins at 1 pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Stanford. Reverend Colette Hensley Lane will be officiating the service, burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford, KY.

Jesse Ray Crank, 66 - Tuesday, June 29, 2004 Mercy Hospital Clermont - Batavia, Clermont County, Ohio - Cherry Fork Cemetery - Cherry Fork, Ohio Born on October 17, 1937 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky to the late Arthur and Gertrude (nee: Dishon) Crank. He was a truck driver for Lykins Transportation and a U.S. Army veteran. Services were held Friday, July 2, 2004 in Mt. Orab, Ohio.

William Albert Crank, 82, of Winchester, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky on January 11, 1930 the son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Dishon) Crank.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Homer, Sam, Gene, Arthur, & Ray Crank.William attended Winchester Church of Christ in Christian Union and he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty (Lucas) Crank of Winchester; three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Loraine Crank, Jr. of Carterville, Georgia, Keith and Barbara Crank of Winchester, and Ken and Tracy Crank of Mt. Orab; two daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn and Gaylen Roades of Winchester and Sue Beville of Inverness, Florida; one brother, Logan Crank of Hamilton, Ohio;
one sister, Mary Hazlett of West Union; 15 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren.

Funeral service at the Winchester Church of Christ in Christian Union with Rev. Dan Harrison and Rev. Dan Bennett officiating. Burial in Cherry Fork Cemetery with a military graveside service given by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Died in Crab Orchard, Ky, 18 March 1872, at her residence of her kinsman, Jacob Guest, Miss Betsy Crews, in the 89 year of her age. Miss Betsy was kind and affectionate, and all who knew her, loved her well.

She was a active, faithful member of the Baptist church, to which she attached herself over a half century ago.

She visited the sick chamber of all within her reach, whether rich or poor, and administered comfort to all. May she meet that reward she so well earned.

Cora B. Wolford Dawson, 101, a resident of Northpoint/Lexington Healthcare Center, formerly of Stanford, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Born Saturday, November 11, 1911 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late George & Della Lackey Wolford. She was the widow of the late John Dawson. Cora was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Stanford and was a homemaker.

Cora leaves behind several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Wolford; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Wolford Logan and Pearl Wolford Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held 11AM-1PM Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Stanford. The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00PM with Pastor Floyd Raglin officiating the service. Burial will follow in Barrows Cemetery, Stanford, Kentucky.

Marcella "Frances" DeWitte 93, of Rushville, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away January 2, 2013. She was born November 15, 1919, in Waynesburg, KY, to the late Leemon and Murial Morgan Singleton. She married John DeWitte, and was employed as an inspector with P.R. Mallory. Frances was a longtime member of Irvington Presbyterian Church, and a volunteer at Methodist Hospital for many years.

Visitation will be Friday, January 4, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel , 9606 E. Washington St.

Frances is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John DeWitte; sons, Kevin (Vicky) and Timothy (Mona) DeWitte; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Donald F. Douglas, 79, of Bellview Street, Junction City, formerly of Hubble, died Sunday at his home.

Born Oct. 12, 1926, in Stanford, he was a son of the late John and Claudia Robbins Douglas. He was a retired farmer, a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ina Terry Douglas; four daughters, Linda Neal of Junction City, Connie Davidson of Stanford, Claudia Miracle of Broughtontown and Dottie Roach of Danville; three brothers, Bill Douglas and Vernon C. Douglas, both of Hubble and Johnny Douglas of Stanford; three sisters, Margaret Garrison and Rose Smith, both of Stanford, and Nellie Long of Hubble; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be noon Thursday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by Gary Story. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military rites.

Emma Evelyn Gosser, 74, of Cotton Avenue in Stanford, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born Friday, June 3, 1938 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Josh Leonard Goode & Myrtle Leonard Goode. Evelyn worked at Cowden’s for over 20 years, and also worked on Dickie Cooper’s farm for many years. She was of the Baptist faith.

Evelyn leaves behind three sons, Junior Gosser of Hustonville, Jackie Gosser (Leslie) of Stanford, and Chris Gosser (Whitney) of Crab Orchard; one daughter Tonya Wine of Crab Orchard; one brother, Raymond Goode (Louise) of Liberty; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, J.L., Bob, Kenneth, Gene, Arnold, J.B., and Thomas Goode.

A Visitation will be held 6-9PM Sunday, April 14, 2013 at New Covenant Church, 132 Frontier Boulevard, Suite 2, Stanford, Kentucky. The Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Monday, April 15, 2013, at the church, with Bro. Joel Rowland officiating the service. Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Junior, Jackie, Chris, & Corey Gosser, Eugene & William Goode, Douglas Ridge, and Matt Gregg will serve as Active Pallbearers.

Barbara Ann Yates Greer, age 64, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at her residence.

Born October 27, 1948, in Lincoln Co., KY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Molly Gertrude Kennedy Yates. Barbara was a former employee of American Greetings in Danville and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, whom she wed on March 8, 1971, Jackie L. Greer, of Richmond; daughters, Gena Lee Greer and Dena Sue Greer Masters, both of Richmond; brother, Charles Lee (Shelia) Yates of Stanford; sisters, Sally Dean (Gordon) King and Betty Sue (James) Stogsdill, both of Stanford; and three grandchildren, Alek, Emily, and Kylee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 29, 2013, at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford with Bros. Aaron Hogue and Jason Kilby officiating. Burial will follow in the Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5-8PM at Fox Funeral Home.

James Edward Grubbs, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 12, 2012. He was born May 29, 1927 in Hustonville, KY son of the late James and Minnie (Eckbaugh) Grubbs.

James was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Grubbs.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 in G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home , 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. Services for James will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16 at the funeral home. James will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, IN.

Foster Gutenson, 79, Indianapolis, passed away January 19, 2013. He was born December 2, 1933 at Waynesburg, KY to the late Arthur and Laura Sims Gutenson. He married Katherine "Kay" Schumacher on February 17, 1973 at Cincinnati, OH, and she survives.

He was employed 30 years by Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and UAW Local #933. Other survivors include his sister Mary Motz of Goshen, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers Arthur and Joseph Gutenson; and sisters Oma Carter and Silma Stempfly. Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, January 21, in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with visitation two hours prior to the service at the mortuary. Private burial will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati, OH.

HACKER, Hazel L. Age 97 of Monroe, formerly of Hamilton, passed away on Monday January 7, 2013 at the Atrium Medical Center. She was born in Hustonville, Kentucky on September 17, 1915 the daughter of the late Emmett and Emma (Yocum) McBee. On August 19, 1934 in Clay County, Kentucky she married Marcus E. Hacker and he preceded her in death on June 15, 1994 and to this marriage were born two daughters, Jean Hutson of Monroe and Joyce Scott of Hamilton and a son Stanley (Donna Jones) Hacker of Hamilton.

Hazel was a pioneer member of the Berean Baptist Church of Middletown. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and was a avid reader. Her life was devoted to her family and they will miss her sweetness, strength, humor and support. Hazel is also survived by her grandchildren, Cindy Davidson, Mark Hacker, Shane and Shannon Jones, Rick and Russ Harden and Scott Harden; ten great grandchildren and several great- great - grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Robin Reeves, great granddaughter Kristy Harden; brothers; Arnold, Roscoe, Dee McBee and Norman McDaniel; sisters; Hattie Wade, Edna Halcomb, Marie Robbins, Irene Byrd and Ruth Parker. The family would like to thank the fourth floor staff of the Atrium Medical Center for all their excellent care and kindness.

Funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday January 10, 2013 at the Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home with Pastor Steven R. Botts officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Lee Harness, 75, of Stanford, KY passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville, KY. He was born October 8, 1937 in Stanford, KY to the late James Hubert and Maude Rogers Harness. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and Wal~Mart Inc., he loved working on cars and bicycles, and he loved to fish. He was a member of Danville First Church of God.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years; Faye Carroll Harness, two sons; Reuben Lee Harness of Stanford, KY and Jeffrey Carroll Harness of Mount Vernon, KY, two brothers; James Mitchell Harness (Roberta) of Liberty Township, OH and Jesse Marvin Harness (Connie) of Eubank, KY, one sister; Aileen Dyson of Morris, IL, four grandchildren; Karina Baker (Ben), Griffin Harness, Allie Harness, and Austin Harness, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Billy and Noah Harness.

Visitation will be Friday, April 12, 2013 from 5-9pm. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 10:30am with Reverend Mike Cox officiating. Both services will be held at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel (Stanford). Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY. Mary Ann Hazlett, 83, of Winchester, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Adams County Manor. She was born in Crab Orchard, Ky., on Jan. 10, 1929, the daughter of the late
Arthur and Gertrude (Dishon) Crank.
Mary attended Winchester Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Raleigh Hazlett, who passed away on Feb. 24, 1986; and six brothers, Homer, Sam, Gene, Arthur Jr., Ray, and William Albert Crank.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald (Rita) Hazlett of Winchester and Jerry (Joyce) Hazlett of Seaman; three daughters and son-in-law, Millie Anderson of New Vienna, Jo Ann (Terry) Gotherman of Winchester, and Barbara (Terry) Ruble of Lewisburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Logan (Carol) Crank of Hamilton; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Betty Crank of Winchester.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct.16, at 2 p.m. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Bradford-Sullivan Chapel in Winchester with Rev. Dan Harrison officiating. Burial followed in Cherry Fork Cemetery. Visitation was held on Oct. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dora E. “Toni” Holt, 87, of Harrodsburg, widow of James Howard Holt, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born May 12, 1925, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Ethel King Kirkpatrick.

Survivors include five daughters, Sharon (Bruce) Bowman, Shirlie (Glenn) Nelson, Betty (Clayton) Mize, Birdie (Tim) Wendler and Ida (Tony) Yocum; two sons, James Stuart (Cathie) Holt and Elmer (Debbie) Holt; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Ella Mae Siler Holtzclaw, 96, of Stanford, KY died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at University of KY Medical Center in Lexington, KY. She was born November 15, 1916 in Lincoln County, KY to the late William Virgil and Bertha Durham Siler. She was the widow of William Oscar Holtzclaw whom she married in 1947 and he died in 1966. Ella Mae was a longtime farmer in the Hubble Community and attended the McKendree Methodist Church for over 60 years while remaining a member of the old Maywood Baptist Church. She was a houseparent at the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville, KY, retiring in 1981. She was an active member of the Hubble Homemakers from the 1940's until the club disbanded in 2010. She was a skilled quilter and was a member of the Lincoln County Quilters' Guild which met at the Stanford Library.

Survivors include a brother, Virgil Siler, Jr. of Louisville, KY; a stepdaughter, Virginia Cruse (Eugene) of Somerset, KY; a daughter-in-law, Johnetta Holtzclaw; Seven grandchildren, Jack B. Cruse (Linda) of Louisville, KY, Jerry Cruse Brock(Herb) of Danville, KY, William B. Peak (Karen) of Texas, William Sanders Holtzclaw (Linda) of Hubble, KY, Marjorie Peak Shadid (Ralph) of Oklahoma, Jeffrey G. Cruse (Jodi) of Somerset, KY and Penny Noland Gaffney (William) of Belgium; Nine Great-grandchildren; Seven Great-Great Grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Thomas Messer of Ottenheim, KY; She was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Howard Siler; two sisters, Elizabeth Siler Messer and Phyllis Jean Siler Johnson; three stepchildren, Willene Peak, J.B. Holtzclaw and Alma Logan Noland.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013, from 5-8 pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Stanford, funeral service will be 11 am Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Spurlin Funeral Home. Reverend James Erwin will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Garland E. Johnson, age 76, of London, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Carlisle Manor Nursing Home in Carlisle, Ohio. Born Friday, July 3, 1936 in West Liberty, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Boyd and Hazel Patrick Johnson. He was the widower of Wanda Jean Smallwood Johnson, who preceded him in death on October 26, 2012. Garland was an owner of a machine shop, for many years, that assisted with sawmills in the area. He attended London Community Church.

Garland leaves behind one daughter, Sheri Johnson Moyer (Norman) of Farmersville, Ohio; two step-sons, Mike Bates (Patti) of Milford, Ohio and Tim Bates (Dawn) of Cincinnati, Ohio; one step-daughter, Donna Walsh (Frank) of Alexandria, Virginia; two brothers, Chalmer Johnson (Lois) of Dayton, Ohio and Roger Johnson of Malone, Kentucky; one sister, Bernice Potter (Raymond) of Malone, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Allie Moyer of Farmersville, Ohio; five step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one infant sister, Neva Jewell Johnson.

A Visitation will take place 6-8PM Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 10:00AM Friday, April 26, 2013, at the funeral home, with Bro. Delmar Gross officiating the service. Burial will follow Double Springs Cemetery.

Joseph Michael Johnson, 36, of Crab Orchard, KY passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at U.K. Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was born December 6, 1976 to Rebecca Hall and the late Michael Dale Johnson. He worked as a factory worker for several years, was self employed for the last few years, and loved working with junk cars in his spare time.

Survivors include his wife of 9 years; Melissa Anne Johnson of Harrodsburg, KY, one son; Joseph Kaleb Johnson, one step-son; Blake Gullett, and one daughter; Gabrielle Brooke Johnson all of Harrodsburg, KY, two brothers; Michael Dale Johnson Jr. (Kim), and Michael Paul Johnson, one sister; Ashley Lynn Johnson all of Crab Orchard, KY, one grandchild; Paisley Brooke Lancaster, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 5-8pm. Funeral service will be Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 11am with Reverend Roger Stevens officiating. Both services will be held at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel (Stanford). Burial will be in Johnson Family Cemetery in Crab Orchard, KY.

Robert Lee Jones, 61, of Stanford, KY died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was born March 8, 1952 in Stanford, KY to the late William Lee and Sue Dawson Jones. He worked in the food industry and was a member of First Baptist Church in Stanford, KY.

Survivors include one brother; Benny Cook who resides in New York, two nephews; Donald Jones Jr. of Stanford, KY, Calvin Jones of Fayetteville, NC, three nieces; Linda Sue Jones, Margaret Jones, both of Stanford, KY, Anita George of Lexington, KY, a special aunt; Annie P. Shanks of Cincinnati, OH, one special friend; Danny Jones, and a host of great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers; William "Step" Dawson and Donald "Pup" Jones.

There will be a private memorial service held at a later date. Spurlin Funeral Home (Stanford) is in charge of arrangements.

William Lee “Bill” Jones Jr. of Hustonville, age 89, died at his home on April 14, 2013. He was the son of late William Lee and Sallie Estes Jones. He was born in Glendale, Arizona, on December 29, 1923. Bill graduated from Hustonville High School and was a PFC in the Army Air Corp during WWII.

He was a lifelong farmer and loved building, traveling, making furniture, inventing tools and gadgets, reading, and spending time with his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Nell Schrader, a daughter Jan Banks of Liberty and many friends and neighbors. Other survivors include two grandsons, Boyd (Shelby) from Roseville, CA, and Andrew (Cassadee) of Liberty, and three great grandchildren, Tristin, Lauren and Cayden.

He is preceded in death by a brother Harry Lynn, a sister, Lidabel Cochran and a son-in-law David. Bill was a member of the First Christian Church in Hustonville where he served as a deacon. He will be remembered for his clever wit, his gentle demeanor, and his willingness to help others. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at the Hustonville Christian Church at 4pm on Sunday April 21st. W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland is in charge of arrangements

Survivors include his wife, Linda Grider Kidd of Gravel Switch; three children, Daniel Kidd of Gravel Switch, Steven Kidd of Liberty and Stephanie Johnson of Crab Orchard; and two siblings,

Services will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Highway 78 Full Gospel Deliverance Church.

Lester Murl Lawless, 85 of Hustonville, passed away at his home on April 6, 2013. Born July 26, 1927, he was the son of the late Lemuel Jones and Ollie Cleveland Godbey Lawless.

He was a US Army veteran and a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church where he served as Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of Deacons. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Onilee Wells Lawless; three sons: Steve (Denise) Lawless, Brad (Judy) and Jeff Lawless, all of Lexington; one brother, Jones (Jean) Lawless, Jr. of Hustonville; one sister, Charlotte (Albert) Wall of Frankfort, one sister-in-law, Betty Dean (Jim) Sweet of TN; and nine grandchildren: Seth (Sarah), Blake, Kristin, Brian, Kimberly, Kelly, Wells, Clay, and Virginia Lawless.

Services will be at 11 am, Wednesday, April 10th at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Dr. Tommy Valentine with burial in Hustonville Cemetery. Pallbearers are his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Renfro Sunday School Class.

Barbara "Bob" Burgin Leigh, 92, of Stanford, KY died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Stanford, KY. She was born June 29, 1920 in Crab Orchard, KY to the late Dr. Welby Wilson Burgin and Bettie Edminston Burgin. She was the widow of C. James "Bug" Leigh, Jr. She was a retired nurse having worked at Stanford Hospital for 35 years and also as a private duty nurse. She was a past member of the Democrat Women and was a member of the Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, James Burgin Leigh of Paris, KY and a daughter, Jamie Brandt Leigh of Stanford, KY; two grandchildren, Natalie Brandt Leigh and Devon Redmon Leigh.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 16, 2013, from 5-8 pm at Spurlin Funeral Home, funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Spurlin Funeral Home. Reverend Jim Baughman will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Gerald D. Lewis, 70, of Stanford, KY passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at home. Born February 9, 1943 in Clay Co. KY, to the late James Harvey and Ella Powell Lewis, he was a construction worker for most of his life, he was a member of Waynesburg 328 and McKinney Masonic Lodges, and Valley of Covington Scottish Rites, and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Glendale, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife for over forty years, Iva F. Lewis of Stanford, KY, two sons; Paul Lewis of Stanford, KY and Mike A. Lewis of Georgetown, KY, one sister; Jacquelyn Doss (Harvey) of Stanford, KY, one sister-in-law; Joan Lewis of Manchester, KY, three grandchildren; Kira Shea Lewis, Cadence Elizabeth Lewis, and Piper Marie Lewis, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers; Morgan, Gene, Herman, and Larry Wayne Lewis, and two sisters; Irene Lewis and Cleo Miracle.

Visitation will be Monday, April 8, 2013 from 5-9pm with a Masonic Service being presented at 7pm. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 2pm with Reverend Keith Bowling officiating. Mildred “Millie” Lane Manuel, 75, of 473 Manuel Lane, Stanford, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013, at her home.

Born Sept. 6, 1937, in Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late Eugene Lane and Ruth Allen Marsee. She previously lived and raised her family in Cincinnati and West Chester, Ohio.

Millie was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Stanford. She formerly co-owned Hamilton Avenue Grocery in Lancaster.

Survivors include three sons, Lee (Patty) Woodrum Jr. of West Chester, Ohio, Kevin Woodrum of Knoxville, Tenn., and Daryl (Deborah) Woodrum of Mansfield, Ohio; a daughter, Amy Falconberry of Stanford; a sister, Irene (Ron) Graef of Stanford; and a brother, Mike Marsee of Danville. She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, Lee Woodrum III, Corey Woodrum, Matthew Woodrum, Kyle Woodrum, Rachel Woodrum, Lenny Probasco, Mandy Smith, Krysten North, Kevin Paul Woodrum, Maribeth Woodrum, Gary Lee Falconberry II, Christopher Falconberry and Anthony Falconberry; and six great-grandchildren, Jaiden Hampel, Annika Hampel, Avery Woodrum, Anna Smith, Isabella Probasco and Christopher Falconberry II.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Woodrum; her second husband, Everett Manuel; and a grandson, Ray Woodrum.

Millie was devoted to her family, and she was happiest when they were with her around her dining room table. She also enjoyed working in the nursery at her church.

Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Fellowship Church, 2294 U.S. 27 South, Stanford, with the Rev. Vola Brown officiating.

A graveside service and burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Butler County Memorial Park in Hamilton, Ohio, with the Rev. Ron Graef officiating.

MOBLEY Lillie B. 86, widow of Henry Mobley, died Thursday, Sep 27, 2012 at Hospice Care Center. Born in Hustonville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Berry and Kizzar Qualls Sr.

She was a retired waitress for H. L. Greens, she faithfully attended Eastland Church of God, and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Survivors are a daughter, Janice (Jeff) Ball; a son, Jim Mobley, both of Lexington; a grandson, Daniel (Heather) Ball, Louisville; a sister, Dorothy Dever, Lexington; two brothers, Barry Qualls Jr. (Jean) and Edwin Qualls, both of Lexington; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 12pm Monday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3-6pm Sunday.

Maggie Nannie Morris, 84, of Flora, died on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.

She was born June 6, 1928, in Hustonville, KY, the daughter of Issac and Amanda Leach Qualls.
On May 24, 1956, she married Francis L. Morris; he preceded her in death on July 3, 1998.
Nannie was a homemaker who loved to read, play cards, complete word searches, plant flowers, garden, and spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by three daughters, Bertha Pippenger, Mary Rowland, and Faye (Dennis) Mocherman; one daughter-in-law, Donna McWhorter; ten grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Kenneth E. McWhorter, two sons-in-law, Terry L. Rowland and Stephen Pippenger; one brother, six sisters, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Visitation for Nannie will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Genda Funeral Home-Reinke Chapel in Flora. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora, Carroll Co. IN.

Howard Rousey, 90 of Danville passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Born April 12, 1922 in Casey County, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Della Southerland Rousey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sharp Rousey and a son, Ronnie Rousey.

Survivors include a son, Billy (Lois) Rousey of Danville; two grandchildren, Brittany Rousey (Jesse) Eaton and Shane Rousey and their mother, Dorothy Rousey McIntyre, all of Versailles; two sisters: Ruby Overstreet of TN and Jewell Goodpaster of FL; two half-brothers, Marion and Les Rousey and three half-sisters: Louise Hill, Barbara Goode and Mary Frances Ferrell.

Walker Earl Rowe Sr., 76, of Lancaster, KY passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at his home. He was born April 21, 1937 in Mount Vernon, KY to the late Gilbert and Mattie Renner Rowe. He was the owner of County Line Auto Sales for 30 years, he loved racing, cars, and going to auctions, and he was a member of the Pentecostal Faith.

He is survived by his companion and dear friend for over 30 years; Linda Durham, three sons; Walker Rowe Jr. (Deborah) of Stanford, KY, Eddie Thomas Rowe (Penny Yocum) of Lancaster, KY, Rodney Reed of Stanford, KY, one daughter; Amanda Lewis (James) of London, KY, one step-son; James Durham of Stanford, KY, one brother; Floyd Rowe (Juanita) of Stanford, KY, three sisters; Ella Wilder (James Earl) of Hustonville, KY, Dessie Carrier (Eugene) of Highland, KY, Lois Preston (Tony) of Danville, KY, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by; one brother; Henry Rowe, and one sister; Hazel Lucas.

Leonard C. Ruckel, 73, of KY Hwy 328 West in Eubank, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at his residence. Born Friday, May 5, 1939 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Henry and Ruby Spaw Ruckel. He was the loving husband of Emma Ruckel, whom he wed on September 23, 1961. Leonard was a farmer and member of Polly Ann Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Leonard leaves behind three sons, Tony Ruckel (Denise) of Somerset, Jeff Ruckel (Anna) of Waynesburg, and Doug Ruckel (Alisa) of Waynesburg; one daughter, Missy York (Wayne) of Waynesburg; four brothers, Linville Ruckel (Doris) of West Chester, Ohio, Lewis Ruckel (Peggy) of Eubank, Lloyd Ruckel (Donna) of Waynesburg, and Leland Ruckel of Eubank; three sisters, Juanita Back (Coy) and Wilma Jean Daniels (Bill) both of Eubank, and Betty Jane Allen (Tommy) of Centre, Alabama; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Ruckel.

Christine Shearer Rutledge, 83, of Edgewood Drive in Stanford, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at her residence.

Born Saturday, February 8, 1930 in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Omer Shearer, Sr. & Effie May Harp Shearer. She was the loving wife of Cecil Harmon Rutledge, whom she wed on December 24, 1949. Christine worked at Cowden’s Manufacturing and retired from US Playing Card Company in Cincinnati. She was a member of Norwood Baptist Church in Cincinnati and she loved to travel.

In addition to her husband, Christine leaves behind one brother, Omer Shearer, Jr. (Pauline) of Stanford; one sister, Marie Whitehouse of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Cecil, John, Richard, Robert, and William Shearer; and three sisters, Lula May Camel, Flora Dailey, and Ethel Adams.

A Visitation will be held 6-9PM Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Fox Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the funeral home, with Dr. Jim Baughman officiating the service.

SAMPSON, Robert P. Jr. age 85 of South Lebanon, Ohio passed peacefully Tuesday evening December 4, 2012 at Bethesda North Hospital. Born May 4, 1927 in Lincoln County, Kentucky, Robert was the son of Robert P. (Sr.) and Sallie B. (Chesnut) Sampson and was a retired machinist from Mokrey-Tesmer, Inc. in Middletown, Ohio and a proud U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Robert was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed playing and building banjos, guitars and mandolins. Robert loved going to Blue Grass Festivals, traveling through his beloved State of Kentucky and spending time with his family.

Preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Barbara (Milam) Sampson; sisters Katie Salee and Eileen Lester and one grandchild; Robert leaves behind his loving children - daughters Diana (Daniel) Field of Loveland, Ohio and Mary Sue (Marion) Davis of Kentucky; sons - Bobby JR Sampson III of Lebanon, Ohio and Jeff Sampson of South Lebanon; brothers William McQueen and Lynn McQueen both of Middletown, Ohio; sisters Elaine McQueen of Kentucky, Pauline Holloway of South Lebanon, Ohio, Ann Baugh of Kentucky and Dorothy Lawson of Kentucky; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

U.S. Saylor, 86, of Stanford, KY passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville, KY. He was born May 9, 1926 to the late John and Lettie Hoskins Saylor. He was retired from the United States Army and was a member of the Crab Orchard Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years; M. Gladys Saylor, one daughter; Diana Boots (Tom) of Junction City, KY, one sister; Alice Slone, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a one day service on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Spurlin Funeral Home (Stanford). Visitation will begin at 11am and will end at 2pm with the funeral service beginning at 2pm. Evangelist Mark Raulerson will be officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.

Pearl "Polly" Lawson Shepherd 85, died Sunday Oct. 14, 2012 in Plainfield. She was a resident of Plainfield and formerly of Indianapolis.

Polly was born June 27, 1927 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky to Everitt and Myrtle (Denny) Lawson. She was a cosmetic sales person at LS Ayres for 17 years. Polly loved playing bingo, going to the casinos and attending the Concord Senior Citizens Center. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include two children, William L. (Lori) Gates and Robert T. (Nancy) Gates; step-son, Paul (Catherine) Shepherd; a brother, Charles L. (Mary Ann) Lawson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charlie Shepherd and brother, William Doug Lawson. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 17, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel , 729 U.S. Hwy 31 North, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

J. T. Sowders, 88, of Stanford, KY died Saturday at Eph. McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY. He was born January 24, 1925 in Lincoln County to the late George and Bessie Ballard Sowders.
He was the widower of Dorothy Hager Sowders.

Mr. Sowders had worked at Corning Glass in Danville as a forklift operator, he was an Army Veteran of WWII and a member and deacon of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, James C. "Jimmy" Sowders (Faith) of Midway Park, NC; six grandchildren, Darlene Ponce, Jimmy Sowders, Jeff Sowders, Joey Sowders, Jennifer Lins and Corey Elder; two Step grandsons; thirteen great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie D. Sowders. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 24, 2013, from 5-9 with the funeral service at 11 am Thursday all at Spurlin Funeral Home. Reverend Chester Cornett will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

On February 24th, 2013, Morris Allen Stapleton left this life to be with God. He passed away after a short illness. He was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky to the late Robert Stapleton and Helen Adams Stapleton.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth, his son Bernard, daughter-in-law, Martha and two grandsons, Joseph and Cameron. Mr. Stapleton was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and retired with the rank of Sergeant Major from the United States Army after many years of dedicated service to our country. In his second career, he served as the Records Manager for First National Bank of Maryland before enjoying a long and happy retirement in Columbia, SC.

Stanly Pierce Stephenson MT. PLEASANT - Stanly Pierce Stephenson, 93, husband of the late Dorothy Mai Cunningham Stephenson, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away on July 5, 2012. The relatives and friends of Stanly Stephenson are invited to attend his Funeral Service at the graveside on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm.. Mr. Stephenson was born December 6, 1918 in Hustonville, KY, son of the late Stanly Stephenson and Pauline Combest Stephenson. He graduated the University of Kentucky with a degree in Marketing, and later received a degree in Chemical Engineering from Centre College in Danville, KY.

During the war he served in the U.S. Army, with one of his postings being at White Sands, NM. He was retired from the Oil Industry as a chemist for Chevron. For a while he worked as a stockbroker on Wall Street, and developed his own practice in that field. He was a long-time resident of the Snee Farm Community, Mt. Pleasant, where he enjoyed his daily walks around the neighborhood for many years.

He was the last living member of his family, having been preceded in death by his brother, Max, and his sister-in-law Elzie, Max's wife, in 2010 and 2011 respectively. His wife Dorothy, and younger daughter, Cindy, passed away in 2008 and 2007, respectively. His oldest daughter, Suzanne, died in a tragic accident in 2011. Suzanne's husband, Richard Fitzgerald, lives in Virginia. Both Richard and his friend Priscilla Craft wish to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at all three Sandpiper facilities, including the administrative staff, nurses, caretakers, cooks, cleaning maintenance staff; and the Agape Hospice staff, all of whom showed such kindness, patience, and assistance to Stanly. Thanks are also extended to Mr. Jim Hennessy, Mr. John McNeil, Mr. John Hyland, and employees at First Federal for their friendship and wise counsel to him.

Josephine Campbell Stevens, 93, of Danville, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born Nov. 27, 1920, in Waynesburg, she was a daughter of Jason Henry and Carrie Caldwell Campbell, and the widow of John Daniel Stevens. A graduate of Waynesburg High School,
she earned her RN degree at University of Louisville.

She began as a floor nurse and retired as director of nursing at Ephraim McDowell Hospital. In retirement, she worked in the infirmary at Centre College and later in the ladies’ department at Wal-Mart.

Josephine was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being a member of the Primetimers Choir.

Survivors include two sons, John “Eddie” (Frances) Stevens of Stanford and Richard LeHenry “Bubba” Stevens of Danville; a sister-in-law, Betty Baugh Campbell of Lexington; a granddaughter, Patty Glyn Stevens; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Stevens and Jonathan Tyler Stevens.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim Mathis will officiate. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

TAYLOR, HELEN DAVIS, 82, of Louisville, passed away unexpected October 30, 2012 at Norton Audubon Hospital.

She was born July 19, 1930 in Dayton, KY to Hugh and Clara Davis and grew up in Stanford, KY, where she graduated from High School before going to Eastern Kentucky University. She taught second grade for 12 years in the Garrard County and Jefferson County School Systems before the birth of her son. She was a substitute teacher for many years, and a member of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Paul Taylor; son Jim Taylor (Suzanne); granddaughters, Katie and Caroline Taylor; sister, Betty Lou Grigsby of Huntsville, AL; many nieces and nephews and numerous lifelong friends.

He was born on May 30, 1915 in Waynesburg, KY, son to the late Monroe and Rose Anne (Payne) Thompson. He was a SGT with the 68th Field Artillery, United States Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lucille; two sons, Dennis and Leroy; eight brothers and sisters and one grandson.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marchetta and James Palumbo of Ocala; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Theresa Thompson of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; a brother, Robert Foster and a sister Lilly Weaver both in Ocala; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday October 18, 2012 with the funeral to follow at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

Lowell I. Wallin, 80, of Lockland, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013. at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Born Aug. 4, 1932, in Broughtontown, Ky., he was a son of the late Andy and Elizabeth Adams Wallin. Lowell was drafted into the Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. After the Army, Lowell went to work for Stearns and Foster Co. in Lockland, Ohio, and retired in 1993 after 42 years of service with the company.

Lowell was of the Baptist faith, a Kentucky Colonel and a lifetime member of the NRA.

Survivors Include his wife of 52 years, Norma J. Manuel Wallin of Lockland, Ohio; four sisters, Edith Dishon, Judy Croushorn, Janet (Doug) Bishop and Joyce (Tommy) Messer; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Dale Hunt, minister of Crab Orchard Christian Church. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18, American Legion.

Pallbearers will be Sid Hines, Clint Manuel, Robbie Croushorn, Kevin Messer, Doug Bishop and Mark Dishon.

Born Jan. 11, 1964, in Stanford, he was a son of Rose Clements Wilham of Liberty and the late Robert Wilham. He was a former mechanic.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Wilham of Mount Orab, Ohio; a brother, Larry Wilham of Liberty; and a sister, Shelia McKenzie of Liberty.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Bartle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born Nov.28, 1945, in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Lewis and Maxine Greer Williams. He was a truck driver and a member of Pilot Baptist Church.

Survivors include four children; and three brothers, Glen Williams of Rush, Ky., Robert Williams (Carol) of Waynesburg, and Ronnie Reynolds of Somerset.

He was preceded in death by a son; a brother, Delbert Williams; and a sister, Francis Williams.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pilot Cemetery with Bro. Gordon Chaney officiating the service.

Born Aug. 18, 1945, he was the son of the late Ira and Ethel Coffman Wray. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Wray; four daughters, Joy Paz, Regina Reyes, Serena Florentino and Cathy Franco, all of Georgetown; a stepson, Jeff McCowan of Perryville; two sisters, Elsie Wilson of Gravel Switch and Bobbie Jean Mattingly of Junction City; 17 grandchildren (and one soon to be); three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery and military rites by Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post 18.

James H. Wright, age 92, of Eubank, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Somerset. Born Sunday, January 23, 1921 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Frank & Catherine Buecker Wright. He was the widower of the late Olvett Neal Wright. James was a US Army World War II Veteran. He loved football, was a skilled sketcher and painter, and loved big band music.

James leaves behind one daughter, Debbie Cole (Mike) of Eubank; one son, James E. Wright (Brenda) of Mesa, Arizona; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert Wright; and one great-grandson.

A Visitation will be held 5-7PM Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will begin at 7:00PM with Bro. Wayne Stephens officiating the service.
