Margaret J. Adams
Margaret Johnson Adams, 87, formerly of Smith Street, died Wednesday at Homestead Nursing Center, Lexington.
Born Nov. 25, 1911, in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Lyda Belle Sallee. She was a retired employee of Palm Beach Co. and Jackson of Danville. She was the widow of James H. Adams and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha B. Adams Taylor of Lexington; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.

Louellyn R. Baker
STANFORD - Louellyn Rankin Baker, 73, of Portman Avenue, died Thursday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Sept. 23, 1924, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Kate Holtzclaw Rankin. She was a registered nurse who worked 18 years at Ephraim McDowell Hospital and 15 years at Eastern State Hospital. She was a member of Stanford Christian Church and Logan Whitley DAR chapter. She was the widow of Robert Baker.
Survivors include a son, Robert R. Baker of Stanford; two brothers, Russell W. Rankin of Crestview and John L. Rankin of Lancaster; two sisters, Tommye R. Cole of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Anna K. Jones of Norfolk, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Fox Funeral Home.

Carrie D. Banks
CRAB ORCHARD - Carrie Dale Banks, 94, of Pine Meadow Health Care Center, Lexington, formerly of Crab Orchard, died today in Lexington.
Born July 29, 1903, in Breathitt County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Alice Cannon Dale. She was a homemaker, a member of Crab Orchard Church of God and the widow of Russell Banks Sr.
Survivors include a daughter, Gladys Dietrich of Lexington; 11 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, June B. and Frances Hendrickson; and two sons, Harold and Russell Banks Jr.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Dan Carr. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Daniel J. Baugh
SCIENCE HILL - Daniel James Baugh, 14, of Ky. 1778, Kings Mountain, died Thursday at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.
Born Nov. 23, 1984, in McHenry, Ill, he was the son of Daniel and Cheryl Tackett Baugh and a student at Lincoln County Middle School.
Additional survivors include one brother, George Gadberry of Fort Breyers, N.C., and two sisters, Crystal Miller of Somerset and Sarah Baugh of Kings Mountain.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home by Curtis Brock. Burial will be in McKinney Family Cemetery in Waynesburg

Mary D. Berry
STANFORD - Services for Mary Lou Dailey Berry, 79, of Berea, formerly of Stanford, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home by the Revs. Stan Stevenson
and Stewart Dawson. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
She died Thursday at Berea Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1919, in Rockcastle County, she was a daughter of the late Henry S. and Mary Owens Dailey. She was a homemaker and a member of Stanford Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Walter F. Berry; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nora L. Napier.

George Blanton
CRAB ORCHARD - Services for George Blanton, 85, of Turkeytown Road, Crab Orchard, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home chapel by Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Coldiron Cemetery in Turkeytown.
He died Tuesday at Rockcastle County Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Born June 19, 1912, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Matt and Mary Alabam Coldiron Blanton. He was a farmer and member of Turkeytown Baptist Church.
Survivors include 30 nieces and nephews.

CRAB ORCHARD - Services for Lillie Jane Petrey Blanton, 68, of 7445 Ky. 643, Crab Orchard, will be 11 a.m. Friday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home Chapel by Cecil Roundtree and Rick Estes. Burial will be in Ephesus Cemetery. She died Tuesday at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. Born July 5, 1927, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Isabelle Hines and Jesse Petrey Sr. She was the wife of Ernest "Pete" Blanton. She was a member of Pine Hall Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Jean Frye. Survivors also include two daughters, Brenda Lee Tolley of Hamilton, Ohio, and Connie Louise Rhodus of Midway; four brothers, Jesse Petrey Jr. of Chicago, Howard Petrey and Dalmas Petrey of Broughtontown, and Clyde Thomas Petrey of Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Wilma June Petrey Barnes of Waynesburg; nine grandchildren and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Leon, Jerry, Mark, Jimmy and Billy Joe Petrey and Keith Newcomb. Visitation is after 6 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Thursday until the service.

Emma B. Brackman
STANFORD - Emma B. Brown ``Tootie'' Brackman, 73, of Waynesburg, died Thursday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born August 26, 1924, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Jess and Anna Ernst Brown. She was a clinical lab technician for 35 years and a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Roy C. Brackman; a son, Robert C. Brackman of El Segundo, Calif.; a brother, Edward J. Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Mary L. Manegold of Cincinnati and Millie M. Muchmore of Nicholasville; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Alan C. Brackman.
Services will be noon Monday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church by the Revs. Michael Weiglicki and Gary Story. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Ernst, Barry Spoonamore, Billy Schuler, Dan Muchmore, Fred Manegold and Steve Brown.
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Monday at the church.

He died Monday at Stanford House nursing home.

Ola J. Cain
STANFORD - Ola Joyner Cain, 87, of 250 McKinney Road, Stanford, died Saturday at Fort Logan Hospital extended care unit. Born April 26, 1909, in Glamorgan, Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel N. and Julia Ann Gilley Joyner. She was the widow of Carl F. Cain, a homemaker, and member of McKinney Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Robert C. Cain of Stanford; a daughter, Ola Maxine Tunnis of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother, Alva Joyner of Covington; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery by James Bland. There will be no visitation. Fox Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mary A. Caldwell
WAYNESBURG - Mary Alice Caldwell, 81, of Waynesburg, died Wednesday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Knott County, she was the daughter of the late Cecil C. and Neva Cook Bates. She was a homemaker and a Baptist,. She was the widow of Cecil Caldwell.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by the Rev. Brad King. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

Evelyn T. Coffey
WAYNESBURG - Services for Evelyn T. Coffey, 87, Tampa, Fla., will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery. She died Tuesday at home. She was a homemaker and a member of Island Baptist Church, Bradenton, Fla. Survivors include her husband, Guy W. Coffey Sr.; five daughters, Gertie Stewart, Mayme Kirby, Margie Coffey and Janet Coffey, all of Tampa, and Sue Keith, Orlando; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Guy Coffey Jr. Visitation is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

Vernon Coleman
STANFORD - Services for Vernon Coleman, 66, of Stanford, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. John Carter. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
He died Saturday at the Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Oct. 23, 1931, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Virgil and Ersie Brown Coleman. He was a retired employee of Penn Ventilator and attended Calvary Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Vonlinger Coleman; a son, Steve Coleman of Stanford; two daughters, Rosa L. Devine and Teresa Cress, both of Stanford; two brothers, Floyd Coleman of McKinney and Clifford Coleman of Stanford; three sisters, Hazel Foster and Violet Kidd, both of Stanford, and Anna L. Griffin of Waynesburg; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

William F. Cordier Jr.
STANFORD - William Frank Cordier Jr., 64, Austin, Texas, died Thursday at Health South Hospital, Austin. Born Oct. 8, 1931, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late William F. and Allene Newland Cordier. A Navy veteran, he was a retired manager for IBM in Austin and a member of Crestview Baptist Church and Austin ElkÕs Club. He was the widower of Jewel Hines Cordier. Survivors include a son, William Scott Cordier, Austin; three brothers, Robert E. Cordier of Georgetown, Texas, Harry Cordier of Nicholasville and John T. Cordier of Lexington; and a sister, Sadie K. Brent, Somerset. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Gayle Toole. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday.

Juanita S. Crawford
CRAB ORCHARD - Juanita Saylor Crawford, 74, of Lancaster Road, died Wednesday at the Rockcastle County Hospital.
Born Oct. 19, 1923, in Crab Orchard, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Shirley Fee Saylor. She was the widow of George W. Crawford. She was a graduate of Union College, was a school teacher, a farmer and a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, George Crawford of Crab Orchard; one daughter, Marcia White of Richmond; one sister, Dorothy House of Manchester, and three grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Saylor Cemetery

W.H. Cummins
CRAB ORCHARD - William Henry Cummins, 86, 5005 Ky. 39 North, Crab Orchard, in the Preachersville community, died Saturday morning at his residence. Born Sept. 25, 1909, in Preachersville, he was a son of the late Willie Clarence and Ollie Marie Newland Cummins. He was the husband of Nellie B. Lee Cummins. He was a member of Drakes Creek Baptist Church. He was a farmer, former merchant and school bus driver for 16 years. Other survivors include one daughter, Ollie Nantz of Stanford; one son, Jimmy Cummins of Preachersville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home chapel by J.H. Burns. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford. Active pallbearers are Tom Blankenship, David Dailey, Ricky Cummins, Mark Nantz and Jerry and Matthew Martin. Diane Daugherty
STANFORD - Services for Diane Daugherty, 52, of Winchester, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Robbie Manning. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.
She died Tuesday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center of natural causes.
Born July 3, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, she was a daughter of Emma (James) Jones Daugherty of Lexington and the late James W. Daugherty. Diane is the granddaughter of Jesse James & Ludemia Gillium. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Other survivors include two daughters, Teresa Howard and Lisa Bailey, both of Winchester; a brother, Ronald Daugherty of Lexington; two sisters, Martha Beckman of Lexington and Carolyn S. Barclay of Houston, Texas; and five grandchildren.

J.C. Dawson
STANFORD - J.C. Dawson, 82, of Jay Street, died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Born Feb. 19, 1916, in Stanford, he was a son of the late Jim M. and Cora L. Dennis Dawson. He was a Stanford City Council member for 12 years and was the
first Lincoln County fire chief, having served for 30 years. He was a member of Stanford Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Opal M. Young Dawson; two daughters, Betty Farris of Stanford and Carolyn Halcomb of Brodhead; a brother, Harley Dawson of
Greenwood, Ind.; two sisters, Elizabeth Dudderar of Danville and Lucille Young of Stanford; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a
great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Revs. Eddie Miller and Norman Young. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Brent, Billy and Danny Holcomb, Darrell Dowell, Bobby Durham and James Hodges.

Homer Denney
CRAB ORCHARD - Homer Denney, 85, of Ky. Hwy. 1770, Stanford, a former Lincoln County magistrate, died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.
Denney served as magistrate for one term. He also was a retired farmer and also worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
Born May 27, 1912, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Willie and Mary Liz Griffin Denney. He belonged to New Hope First Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Benge Denney; one son, Larry Raymond Denney of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Ina Bullock and Juanita Duvall, both of Crab Orchard; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by Cecil Rountree and Ron Meece. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. today.

Liza M. Denny
CRAB ORCHARD - Liza Mullins Denny, 86, of Hwy. 643, died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Feb. 19, 1911, in Knott County, she was a daughter of the late James C. and Sarah Johnson Mullins. She was a homemaker and a member of Crab Orchard Old Regular Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Peyton Denny; five sons, Hobert Denny of Crab Orchard, Leroy Denny of West Chester, Ohio, Arthur Denny of Norwood, Ohio, Ronnie and Ray Denny, both of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Rosetta Braley of Crab Orchard and Lucille Muse of Williamstown; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Peyton Denny Jr., and a daughter, Stella Denny.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Murl Caudill. Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Broughtontown.

WAYNESBURG - Services for Audra Jean Dishon, 89, of Danville, formerly of Waynesburg, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Point Baptist Church by the Revs. Bob Kiper and Bill Hall. Burial will be in Pleasant Point Cemetery.
She died Tuesday at Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born Sept. 20, 1908, in San Antonio, Texas, she was a daughter of the late James and Myra Erwin Kuykendall. She was a homemaker, a member of Hedgeville Baptist Church and the widow of Granville Dishon.
Survivors include two sons, James W. Dishon of Reno, Nev., and Delbert W. Dishon of Ocala, Fla.; four daughters, Lucretia A. Brun of Deland, Fla., Jewell D. Harms of Winchester, Janet Kiper of Lancaster and Brenda S. Lair of Danville; two brothers, Buster Kuykendall of Texarkana, Texas, and Claude Kuykendall of Sweetwater, Alabama; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

STANFORD - Claudia Robbins Douglas, 89, of Ky. 590 died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville. Born Sept. 1, 1906, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late William and Sally Massey Robbins. She was a homemaker and a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of John Douglas. Survivors include four sons, Donald Douglas of Lancaster and William Harold, Vernon and Johnny Douglas, all of Stanford; three daughters, Margaret Garrison, Nellie Long and Rosie Smith, all of Stanford; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Leona D. Douglas
STANFORD - Graveside services for Leona Dishon Douglas, 86, of Barbourville Nursing Home, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery by the Rev. Tony Denham.
She died Monday at Knox County Hospital.
Born Oct. 19, 1911, in Crab Orchard, she was a daughter of the late William and Ella Oaks Dishon. She was a retired teacher, having taught for 37 years, a member of London Church of Christ and the widow of Clifford Douglas.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Hazlett Drury
STANFORD - Elizabeth Hazlett Drury, 71, of Tampa, Fla. died Saturday at Tampa General Hospital.
Born April 21, 1927, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Georgia Ann Phillips Hazlett. She was a homemaker and a member of Tropical Acres Baptist Church. She was the widow of John Drury.
Survivors include a son, Stanley Joe Stone of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Shelia Reed of Stanford; four brothers, Joe Hazlett of West Chester, Ohio, Johnny Hazlett of Loveland, Ohio and Jack and Harry Hazlett, both of Stanford; three sisters, Nellie Von Gruenigen of Stanford, Florence Mason of Stanford and Alyce Hoop of Hustonville; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Revs. James Bland and Gary Yocum. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Walter C. Durham
WAYNESBURG - Services for Walter Carlos Dunham, 77, of Waynesburg, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home by Monte Carney. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.
He died Thursday at his home.
Born March 8, 1920, in Casey County, he was a son of the late James and Eliza Patterson Dunham. He was a retired factory worker, a World War II Army veteran, and a member of Church of Christ and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Bates Dunham; two sons, Michael Dunham of Ironton, Ohio, and David Dunham of Nashville, Tenn.; a stepson, Ronnie Bates of Waynesburg; a daughter, Elaine Said of Nashville; a stepdaughter, Ellen Tarter of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven step grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.

Willie Durham STANFORD - Willie Durham, 87, of Old Somerset Road, died Wednesday at Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born Aug. 14, 1910, in Casey County, he was a son of the late James M. and Ida Wilson Durham. He was a mechanic for Lincoln County Board of Education for 25 years, and a maintenance employee of the Lincoln County courthouse for 15 years. He was a member of Blue Lick Baptist Church and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He was the widower of Verda M. Poppelwell Durham. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Guin Smallwood Brooks.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Durham of Waynesburg and Marion W. Durham of Stanford; and a daughter, Jacquline Foley of Stanford; two brothers, Johnny Durham of Stanford and Clifton Durham of Indianapolis; a sister, Gertrude Brent of Stanford; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Gary Story.
Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Loranza F. Edwards
CRAB ORCHARD - Services for Loranza Frank Edwards, 83, Crab Orchard, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Watts Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Gutenson and Cecil Roundtree. Burial with military rites by Caswell Saufley American Legion Post 18 will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.
He died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born April 12, 1913, in Crab Orchard, he was a son of the late William Edgar and Nannie Wilson Edwards. He was a member of Turkeytown Baptist Church until it was destroyed by fire in 1951, and since has been a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church where he was a deacon, He was a farmer and co-owner of S&T Hardware Store. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was also a member of Caswell Saufley American Legion Post 18, of Stanford. He was the master of Crab Orchard Masonic Lodge 636 for two terms and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Hicks Edwards; a son, Robert Lee Edwards of Crab Orchard; a brother, Jim Edwards of Crab Orchard; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Baker, Vance G. Brock, Fred Jones, George Crawford, Calmer and Dick Hayes.
Honorary pallbearers are Delbert Hawkins, John Armstrong, and the Mens Sunday School Class at Watts Chapel Baptist Church.

Pearl K. Elam
CRAB ORCHARD - Pearl Mae Kidwell Elam, 80, of Edwards Road, died Tuesday at her home after a long illness.
Born Sept. 10, 1918, in Rockcastle County, she was a daughter of the late Curt and Sarah Lunsford Kidwell. She was a homemaker and a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church. She was the widow of James E. Elam Sr.
Survivors include five sons, Eugene Elam, Billy C. Born Oct. 10, 1928, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of Joe and Susie Manuel Hazlett. She was a homemaker and the widow of Willie Foley.
Survivors include three sons, William Foley of Louisville, Melvin Foley of Stanford and Julian Foley of Harrodsburg; three daughters, Brenda Vargo of Louisville, Ruby Yocum of Stanford and Sheila Foley of Stanford. She was preceded in death by a son, Denver Foley; and a daughter, Vina Martin.

Reba G. Frederick

She died Monday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born March 22, 1909, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Dutch and Cornelia Floyd Frederick. She was a homemaker and a member of Greenriver Pentecostal Church. She was the widow of the late Dillard Carson Frederick.
Survivors include three sons, Garland Buddy Frederick of Stanford, Connie Ray Frederick of Waynesburg and Richard Frederick of Stanford; seven daughters, Berthelia Noe of Burnside, Yvonne Watkins of Little Rock, Ark., Jane Moore and Brenda Frederick, both of Stanford, Wanda Flynn of Bryantsville, Claudene Bryant of Crab Orchard and Barbara Jenkins of Georgetown; 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Vera Noel Gilliland, 87, of Stanford, a former teacher, died Monday. Her brother, Charles Gilbert Gilliland, 77, a former businessman, died Sunday.
The were children of the late Victor and Birdie Brown Gilliland.
Born June 27, 1911, in Lincoln County, Vera N. Gilliland was a homemaker and graduate of Campbellsville College. She attended Centre College, was a former Lincoln County teacher and was an employee of Federal Land Bank for over 30 years. She was a charter member of Stanford Lions Club and a member of Stanford Baptist Church.
Charles Gilbert Gilliland, 77, is a former businessman, of Stanford.
Survivors include a brother, Jason B. Gilliland of Blairsville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Joint services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stanford Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Boshen. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hubert Deatherage, Jim Hodgens, Dale Reed, Glen Campbell, Larry Nicley, Bill Fox and Phillip Sebastian.

Stanford businessman Ben J. Gaines Sr. dies
STANFORD- Services for Ben J. Gaines Sr., 82, of 609 E. Main St., are 3 p.m. today at Harris Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jerry Beck. Burial will be at Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
He died Thursday at Stanford House Nursing Home.
Born June 7, 1914, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Sallie McWhorter Gaines. He was owner and operator of Gaines Furniture Store in Stanford for 50 years.
He was chairman of the Lincoln County School Board during the mid-1950s and early '60s. He attend the University of Kentucky and graduated from Florence State Teachers College in Florence, Ala. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, the Rotary Club and Lincoln Lodge #60 F&AM.
Gaines was a Boy Scout Leader, a Lincoln County Development Coordinator, a member of the Stanford Chamber of Commerce and the Stanford Volunteer Fire Department. He was director of March of Dimes and Easter Seal, a member of the All-American Salesmen for Swift Meat Co., and current director and co-founder of the Lincoln County Education Fund. He was former director of the Lincoln County Federal Savings and Loan
He also was a member of Harris Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Elizabeth Pence Gaines; two sons, Ben J. Gaines Sr. of Stanford and Robert P. Gaines of Miami; one daughter, Nancy Sue Hammel of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; eight granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

Born April 16, 1922, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Howard L. and Myrtle Geiszl Goodwin. He was a self-employed electrical contractor, Army veteran of World War II, and a deacon and elder of Crab Orchard Christian Church.

Born Aug. 11, 1906, in Bosma, Mont., he was a son of the late James M. and Nannie Leece Gover. He was a retired farmer and truck driver, and a member of Stanford Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae Wyler Gover; a daughter, Anna L. Kirkpatrick of Stanford; a sister, Francis Rees of Cheshire, Conn.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jacqueline A. Hale
Jacqueline Lynn Atkins Hale, 33, of Lexington, formerly of Stanford, died Saturday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center after a long illness.
Born Sept. 20, 1964, in Danville, she was a daughter of Lillie Mimms Atkins Richards of Stanford and the late James F. Atkins. She also was preceded in death by a stepfather, Jesse Richards. She was a computer programmer, a 1982 graduate of Lincoln County High School and a 1989 graduate of Arizona State University.
She was a member of Hollis Chapel Baptist Church in Portland, Tenn.
Other survivors include two daughters, Fallon M. and Amber N. Hale, both of Stanford; two sisters, Darlene Martin of Deerpark, Ohio, and Janice Risner of Stanford; a brother, James T. Atkins of Houston, Texas; two half sisters, Ella Moore of Hustonville and Lula Bray of Franklin, Ohio; and a stepsister, Arlene Ragle of Junction City.

Born Nov. 13, 1906, he was a native of Leslie County and the son of the late Levi and Diana Adams Hendrix. He was a retired farmer and member of Dix River Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna Caudill Hendrix.

WAYNESBURG - Elmer V. Hogue, 67, of Cincinnati died Friday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati.
Born Dec. 16, 1929, in Waynesburg, he was a son of the late George and Alpha Greer Hogue. He served in the Army in Japan and was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Itsuko Hogue; a brother, George Hogue Jr. of Louisville; and five sisters, Vernell Esker, Lorrain Lane, Netha Marions, Charlotte Dodson and Theda Alsip, all of Akron.

STANFORD - Georgia M. Kidwell, 78, of 1700 Boone Road died Friday at her home.
Born July 25, 1919, in Keavy, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Roetta Karr Melton and widow of Edward Bartley Kidwell. She was a homemaker and a member of Stanford First Church of God.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry Kidwell and Ira Kidwell, both of Stanford, Johnny Kidwell of Paint Lick and Zack Bennett of Beckley, W.Va.; four daughters, Joyce Mastin and Wanda Hawley, both of Stanford, Elizabeth June Morgeson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Phyllis Herring of Port Orange, Fla.; two sisters, Lydia Gilliam of Stanford and Nancy Lipcomb of Palm Beach, Fla.; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

Born Nov. 27, 1916, in Ottenheim, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Emma Hoehn Schlappi. She was a member of Ottenheim Immanuel Lutheran Church and the widow of Edward W. Kocher.

Born Aug. 6, 1923, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Jonas and Mayme Singleton Taylor. She was a retired payroll clerk for Long Beach Naval Shipyard in California. She was a member of Harris Creek Baptist Church and a World War II Women's Army Corp veteran.
Survivors include her husband, Leon M. Lambert; a son, Darrell Lambert of Stanford; a brother, Coy E. Taylor of Eagle Point, Ore.; and sister, Mary L. Duff of Stanford.

William D. Laswell Jr.
STANFORD - William D. Laswell Jr., 88, of Waynesburg Rest Home, formerly of Stanford, died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 3, 1910, in Rockcastle County, he was a son of the late Dr. William D. and Cuemile Reams Laswell. He was a retired policeman for the Chesapeake Bay and Bridge Tunnell District. He was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church, a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association branch 117, Louisville. He was the widower of Ethel Gooch Laswell.
Survivors include a brother, S. Parker Laswell of Detroit; four sisters, Roberta S. Laswell of Columbus, Ohio, Marie Curtis of Detroit, Margaret Froelich of S. Rockwood, Mich., and Cynthia Anglemayer of Michigan.

He died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Dec. 2, 1919, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late William and Isa Cook Lawson. He was a retired employee of Lincoln Lumber Company, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was the widower of Joetta Turner Lawson.
Survivors include two brothers, Lucian Lawson of Stanford and James Lawson of Rossville, Ga.; and a sister, Marietta Smith of Stanford.

STANFORD - - C. James Leigh, 73, of Stanford, died Saturday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, Harrodsburg.
Born Aug. 16, 1925, in Stanford, he was a son of the late Cloyd J. and Lila Singleton Leigh. He was a retired master plumber and pipefitter, and a member of Stanford Baptist Church and Lexington Local Union 452. He was a Mason and past master of Lincoln Lodge 60. He was a World War II Marine veteran having served in served in the Pacific Theatre. He was the recipient of a Pacific Theater ribbon, a Phillippine Liberation Medal with two stars and a Victory medal.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara `` Bob'' Burgin Leigh; a son, James B. Leigh of Paris; and a daughter, Jamie B. Leigh of Stanford.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Tim Boschen. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include two stepsons, Denver Magee of Clearwater, Fla., and Lowell Magee of Hillsboro, Ohio; and three stepdaughters, Jewell, Lorene and Retha; a brother, Bob Peck of Stanford; and a sister, Maggie Southerlan of Stanford. Born Aug. 24, 1924, in Taylor County, he was a son of the late Lester O. and Lillie Mayes Martin. He was an income tax accountant, co-owner of Stanford Bookkeeping and Tax Service and a 10-year employee of the Internal Revenue Service. He was also a member of Harris Memorial United Methodist Church, an Army-Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Lincoln Lodge 60 F&AM, Lexington Scottish Rite Consistory and Oleika Shrine Temple, Lexington.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Graham Martin, a son, Michael Martin of Nicholasville; two daughters, Deborah Lainhart of Nicholasville and Susan Graham of Lexington; a sister, Clara Luntzel of Louisville; three granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.

Mitchell Merriman
CAMDEN, Ohio - Mitchell Merriman, 81, of West Elkton, Ohio, formerly of Lincoln County, died Monday at Middletown Regional Hospital there.
Born Jan. 14, 1916, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Jeremy and Sarah Hewlitt Merriman. He was the husband of Ethel Bunch Merriman. He retired in 1974 from Armco after 32 years of service. He also worked for A&P and Reedy's grocery stores in Middletown and also with Camden IGA until 1988. He belonged to West Elkton United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Huff of Camden, Karen Brewer of Somerville, Ohio, and Sharon Taulbee of Eaton, Ohio; five sons, Wayne Merriman of Richton Park, Ill., Ronnie Merriman of Camden, Larry Merriman of Hartsville, S.C., Jerry Merriman of Somerville and Gerald Merriman of Oxford, Ohio; one brother, James Merriman of Middletown; three sisters, Hallie Tuggle of Middletown, Ohio, and Elizabeth and Kathryn Merriman of Kentucky; 32 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Faye Merriman.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at West Elkton United Methodist Church by Rev. Ruben Cabanillas. Burial will follow in Fairmound Cemetery in West Elkton.

MORELAND - Willie Shafer Messinger, 90, of Stanford, died Tuesday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born April 15, 1908, in Shepherdsville, he was a son of the late Henry Messinger and Annie Watkins Messinger Cormney. He was a member of Stanford Rowland Mission.
Survivors include two daughters, Willow D. Peck of Stanford and Vivian L. Wade of Danville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin S. Messinger.

Born Dec. 31, 1930, he was the son of Margaret Osborne Miracle and the late Lloyd Beckham Miracle. He was the husband of Louise Miracle of Stanford.
He was an Army veteran and a retired carpenter and bricklayer, and a member of the American Legion.

She was the widow of David D. Newsom.
