She was born in Stanford, Lincoln County, Ky., on August 27, 1940 and had lived in this area for 40 years. Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker. She had also worked at the Manchester Inn, Frisch’s and at the Meijer’s Store. She was a member of the Berear Baptist Church in Monroe and Women of the Moose Lodge 183.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Stella Leece; a nephew, Robert Wooten; and her stepfather, Charles DeNeene.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Paul H. Adkins of Franklin; two sons, Frank Martin (Eriko) Plumbo of Columbus, Ind., and Thomas Plumbo of Middletown; two sisters, Joyce (Frank) Scribner of Greenville, S. C., and Jewell (Ronnie) Wooten of Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are set for Thursday, Feb 12, at Baker-Stevens Funeral Home in Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery and Crematory.

WAYNESBURG - James Richard ``Dick'' Banks, 85, of Sharon Lane, died Saturday at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home, Somerset.
Born Dec. 6, 1912, in Connersville, Ind., he was a son of the late John G. and Mabel Rose Banks. He was a retired 35-year superintendent for Hoosier Engineering, Columbus, Ohio, and a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife, Ida M. Baker Banks; a son, Elvin Howard of Greenfield, Ind.; four daughters, Lucy Hubbard of Kings Mountain, Loretta Williams of Somerset, Annette Brumfield of Swansboro, N.C., and Jeanie Goodling of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Robert Banks of Brooksville, Ind.; a sister, Minnie Walters of Brooksville; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Alene Sullivan.

He was born in Louisa, KY, October 25, 1911, son of the late Hezekiah Webb Carter and Adaline (Thompson) Carter. He was a farmer, store clerk in Waynesburg and member of the Double Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include a step-son, Roy (Sue) Russell of Kings Mt., step-daughter, Tammy (Doug) Roberts of Waynesburg , sister, Elizabeth Osborne of Somerset and several nieces and nephews..

He was preceded in death by his wives, Dovie K. (Hines) Carter, Mattie Belle Singleton, Lois Jeanette Fields, step-daughter, Edith Russell Eubank, six brothers, Beckham, Loranza, Moan, Edgar, Richard and Finley Carter, three sisters, Gladys Smith, Lezenia Morgan and Erma Adams.

Born May 9, 1928, in Junction City, he was a son of the late Victor and Myrtle Carey Girdler. He was employed by Armco Steel Co. for 25 years until his retirement as a supervisor in the shipping department. He attended the Yankee Road Church of God.
He served in the Army during the Korean War, and was a member of Jefferson Lodge #90 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine, Middletown VFW, and the ham radio association.
He was the widower of Ella Mae Girdler.
Survivors include a daughter, Ava Lee of Palm Bay, Fla.; a son, Mike Girdler of Franklin, Ohio; a brother, Jesse Girdler of Shelby City, Ky.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be 7 p.m. today at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home in Middletown by the Rev. Allen Deaton. A graveside serve will be noon Monday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, with the American Legion providing military honors.

CRAB ORCHARD - Marcie Mae Mullins Saylor, 59, of Crab Orchard died Tuesday at Fort Logan Hospital, Stanford.
   Born May 14, 1937, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Nora Lee Kidd Mullins. She was a homemaker and a member of First Apostolic Church, Danville.
   Survivors include her husband, J.D. Saylor; two sons, Charles Adams of Danville and Richard Eugene Adams of Lexington; three daughters, Kathy Mae Bowen of Stanford, Sandy Gail Johnson of Stanford and Doris Corrine Patrick of Grove City, Ohio; two brothers, Gilbert Mullins of Georgetown and Foster Mullins of Wilmington, Ohio; a sister, Shirley Woods of Blanchester, Ohio; 10 stepchildren; and 11 grandchildren.
   Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by the Revs. Robert Ison and Greg Ison. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery, Broughtontown,
Pallbearers will be Rocky and Chris Adams, Bryan, Ricky and Bob Mullins and Eric Bowen.

MORELAND - Wilbert Stephenson Sears, 53, of Junction City, died Friday at his home.
   Born Oct. 9, 1943, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Melvin Ernest and Lorraine Benedict Sears. He worked for Packs Nursery in Junction City for several years. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, Moreland.
   Survivors include his wife, Jonell Hafley Sears; two daughters, Carolyn Louise Adams and Frances May Edwards, both of Junction City; one son, Joe Sears of Junction City; two stepsons, Robert and Mike Hafley, both of Junction City; two stepdaughters, Christy Hafley of Junction City, and Katherine Henson of Danville; one sister, Virgie E. Adams of Waynesburg; four brothers, William, Ernest, Phillip and Paul Sears, all of Junction City; three grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
    Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Revs. Ernest Martin and Wayne Stevens. Burial will be in Moreland Cemetery.

LANCASTER - Jack E. Shillings, 74, of Harmons Lick Road, Crab Orchard, died Friday at home. He was born August 16, 1924. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Services are 2:30 p.m. today at Harmons Lick Free Pentecostal Church by the Rev. Farmer Saylor. Burial will be in the Saylor family cemetery.
Visitation is 2 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be A.D. Saylor, Raymond Napier, Kenneth Bker, Todd French, Danny Gibson and John Harbin.

STANFORD- Charles Franklin Sims, 49, of Berwyn, Ill., who was raised in Kings Mountain, died Friday at the University of Loyola Hospital in Maywood, Ill. Born Feb. 20, 1948, in Jeffersonville, Ind., he was a son of the late Lester Sims and Johnnie Sims Noyola. He was a private contractor for the State of Illinois Department of Social Services.
Survivors include his wife, Zapopan Marie Romero Sims; a son, Charles Franklin Sims Jr. of Berwyn; two daughters, Lisa Marie Sims of Cicero, Ill., and Patricia Louise Sims of Berwyn; and two sisters, Rebecca Noyola Williams of Kings Mountain and JoAnn Sims Newsome of Richmond.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Mullins. Burial will be in Sims Cemetery, Kings Mountain.

WAYNESBURG - Services for Melvina Sparkman, 55, of Madison, Ind., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by Brad King. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.
She died Monday in Madison.
Born June 16, 1943, in Knott County, she was a daughter of the late Joe C. and Martha A. Sawyers Sparkman.
Survivors include two brothers, Joe Sparkman of Pensacola, Fla., and Thomas Sparkman of Crofton; two sisters, Elizabeth Scott of Madison, Ind., and Lucy S. Beasley of Newton, Ala.

LANCASTER - Carl V. Speaks, 62, of Club Side Drive, Stanford, died Saturday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
Born July 11, 1934, in Garrard County, he was a son of Ada Green Speaks Hendrickson of Lancaster and the late Hamilton Speaks. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and an insurance agent with Modern Woodman of America, Rock Island, Ill. He was a former partner of Beazley-Raney-Speaks Funeral Home, former owner and operator of Speaks Flower Shop, former partner and operator of Ensslin-Speaks Cold Storage Warehouse and former partner and operator of Speaks Wholesale Co., all located in Stanford.
He was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church, Lincoln Masonic Lodge No. 60 F&AM and was a 32nd degree Mason, Covington. He was a member of Lincoln Chapter 486, Order of Eastern Star, Stanford Chamber of Commerce, Oleika Shrine Temple, Lexington, and Scottish Rite Temple. He served as a representative of the American Red Cross for 25 years. He promoted Small Fry football at Stanford Elementary School and Toys for Tots for Needy Children of Lincoln County.
Additional survivors include his wife, Melva Dean Locker Speaks; a son Hamilton Owen Speaks of Berea; four sisters, Georgia Shell of Lancaster, Linda May of Gilbert, W.V., Pat Walter of Harrodsburg, and Jo Ann Garrett of Louisville; a grandson; two step grandsons; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, William Hendrickson. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lancaster Cemetery by the Revs. Jim Walter and Morris Trayner. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

STANFORD - Lillie Sowers, 91, of Harmon Heights died Saturday at Fort Logan Hospital. Born July 4, 1904, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Sallie Frederick Spears. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Jesse Sowers; two sons, Lloyd and Freeman Sowers; and a daughter, Ella Mae Girdler. She was a member of Middleburg Christian Church. Survivors include two sons, Robert Sowers of Palm Bay, Fla., and Jimmy Sowers of Stanford; three daughters, Frances Estes of Stanford, Juanita Gibson of Cincinnati and Eldean Brent of West Harrison, Ind.; a sister, Helen Haag of Madisonville, Ohio; 26 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Ralph Fox Spoonamore, 77, of Fox Spoonamore Road in Lincoln County, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 10, 1921, in Boyle County, he was the son of the late David Logan and Mabel Rankin Spoonamore. He was a farmer and the widower of Katherine Dunn Spoonamore. He was a lifelong member of McKendree United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, John David Spoonamore of Lincoln County; a daughter, Patsy Spoonamore Sides of Kingsport, Tenn., and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Jeff Coleman. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

STANFORD - Services for Ted V. Stickler, 60, of Pine Grove Road, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by the Chuck Bartlett. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
He died Tuesday at Fort Logan Hospital of natural causes.
Born Oct. 4, 1937, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Louis E. and Jessie Edster Stickler. He was a 31 year employee of Penn Ventilation in Junction City and farmer. He was a member of Pine Grove Church of Christ and Sheet Metal Workers Association 433.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Siler Stickler; two sons, Jeffrey Stickler of Stanford and Jamie Stickler of Beattyville; a brother, Ned Stickler of Stanford; a sister, Judy Goode of Cincinnati, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Walter Dowell, Wayne Saylor, Tommy Messer, Dave Nichol, Earl Harris and Gary Dowell.
Honorary pallbearers are William Tucker, Lowell Saylor, members of Pine Grove Church of Christ, and Sheet Metal Workers Association Local 433.

MORELAND - Hershel Ray Thompson, 54, of McKinney, died Friday at the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.
Born Jan. 9, 1943, he was the son of Edna Preston of Kings Mountain. He was a truck driver for 22 years with Central Wholesale in Danville. He was a member of the Stanford Church of Christ.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Betty Carrier Thompson. Additional survivors include four stepsons, Roy Lee Reynolds, Louisville, Ricky Lynn Reynolds and Charles Wayne Reynolds, both of Lancaster, and Jeffery Alan Reynolds of Stanford; one stepdaughter, Maria Mischelle Wall, Lancaster; six step grandchildren; and several half brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the Stanford Church of Christ. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the church by Virgil Horseman and the Rev. Bob Bausum. Members of the McKinney Area Rescue Squad will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Gooch Cemetery, Kings Mountain.

Born Dec. 31, 1941, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Carvan and Beatrice Sears Wade, She was an employee of Super 8 Motel in Danville and a member of Geneva Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, Darryl Keith VanHook; a son, Chris VanHook of Hustonville; three daughters, Renee Chambliss of Medina, Tenn., Reba Walls of McKinney and Lora VanHook of Hustonville; a brother, Larry Wade of Ottenheim; six sisters, Donna Allen of Stanford, Peggy Flannery of Waynesburg, Carolyn Yocum and Betty Short, both of Hustonville, Geneva Martin of Mooresville, Ind., and Lucille Smith of Springfield; and five grandsons. STANFORD -- Ralph Vernon Vanover, 96, of East Main Street died Monday in Crab Orchard.  Born Aug. 31, 1906, in Pike County, 
he was the son of the late Oliver B.And Anzie Smallwood Vanover. He was a retired employee of National Cash Register Co., and the 
widower of Hazel Francisco Vanover.  Survivors include two nephews, Homer L. Vanover and Vincent Vanover, both of Danville.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by C.A. Easterling. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

WAYNESBURG - Services for Celestia Smith Williams, 88, of Eubank, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pilot Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Roberts. Burial will be in Pilot Cemetery.
She died Sunday at home.
Born June 24, 1908, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of Vernon J. and Louia F. Wall Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Pilot Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of Joseph H. Lewis Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the widow of David S. Williams.
Survivors include two sons, Leland and Olin Williams, both of Ellison Community; a daughter, Eldred W. Melton of Frankfort; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, George Williams, and two grandchildren.

Born Jan. 14, 1916, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Cleveland and Esther Wrenn. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Wilkerson Wrenn; four sons, Julian, Robert, Morris and William Wrenn, all of Garrard County; three daughters, Marilyn Hensley, Darlene Daniels and Donald Lamb, all of Garrard County; a sister, Pearl Payne of Garrard County; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

WAYNESBURG -Opal A. (Todd) Yeary, 84, passed away March 28, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. She was born in Waynesburg, KY, November 16, 1916, daughter of the late Johnie Todd and Stella (Measle) Todd. She was a homemaker, retired Rose's employee and member of Estesburg Church of Christ in Eubank.

Survivors include her husband, Coyt C.Yeary, whom she married Dec. 19, 1936, son,Bill Gene (Alma) Yeary of Lexington, daughter, Sylvia Ann (Donnie) Zellar of Mellott, IN, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by, son James Randall "Jim" Yeary, brother, Noel L. Todd and two sisters, Debbie Sanders and Iva Walls.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill,(Pulaski Co.) with the Bro. Gilbert Robinson officiating. Burial in the Eubank Cemetery, Eubank, KY
