Born Jan. 11, 1923, in Glasgow, he was a son of the late Virgil and Daisy M. Abner. He was retired from RCA and a member of Smith Valley Baptist Church in Greenwood.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby Jean Bastin Burton Abner; a son, Michael Abner; two daughters, Carol Burns and Debbie Goodnight; a stepson, Joe K. Burton; three brothers, Bill Abner, Frankie Graham and Harry Abner; two sisters, Sarah Smith and Shirley Spradlin; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Forrest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood.Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County by the Rev. Matt Jones. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Forrest Lawn Funeral Home and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at New Salem Baptist Church.

STANFORD - Services for Darrell Barrett, 57, of Stanford, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by Stewart Dawson. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Born Aug. 3, 1946, in Kingsport, Tenn., he was the son of the late Richard C. and Mary Alice Jones Barrett. He was a farmer, having graduated from University of Kentucky with a degree in agronomy. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Lincoln Lodge 60, Stanford Lions Club and Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Hamm Barrett; a son, Darren Barrett of Lascassas, Tenn.; a daughter, Conswella VanHook of Stanford; six sisters, Imogene Dawson and Ann Sears, both of Stanford, Wanda Thibo of Florida, Bernadean Chadwick and Dicie English, both of Georgia, and Theo Davidson of Churchill, Tenn.; three brothers, Ralph Barrett of Stanford, Elbert Barrett of Kingsport, and Clarence Barrett of Danville; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of Stanford Lions Club. Honorary pallbearers are nephews.

PERRYVILLE - Services for Ruth Lee Best, 89, of Lannock Drive, Danville, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilder Funeral Home by the Revs. Tom Patterson and Joe Vest. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Born Oct. 10, 1914, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Elizabeth Lee Vest. She was a registered nurse and supervisor of the Ephraim McDowell Hospital emergency room. She also worked at the Boyle County Heath Department. She was appointed sheriff of Boyle County in the 1950s upon the death of her husband, Shelby Best, making her the first female Boyle County sheriff. She was a member of Perryville Baptist Church and was active in youth groups at Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was a former Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Casey of Danville; a stepson, Guy Best of Danville; a brother, Jim Vest of Danville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Jackie, Chad and Greg Casey, Kenneth Hill, Jon Lee and Robert McDaniel.Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Finley Hendrickson, Dr. Charles Sisk and great-grandchildren, Robbie Elmore, Kirby Stafford, Terry Kipp and John Lair. Born Nov. 18, 1944, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Herman and Anna Mae Turner Bryant Payne. He was an employee of Foursesa Corp. in Franklin, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Clark Bryant; two sons, James L. Bryant II and Donnie Bryant, both of Dayton; a sister, Loretta Pearson of Tennessee; and three brothers, Charles Bryant of Brodhead, Larry Payne of Corbin and Eddie Payne of Crab Orchard.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at McKnight Funeral Home by the Rev. Dan Carr. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harley Taylor, Jesse Turner, Eddie Payne, Scott Bryant, Jeremy Taylor and Larry Payne.Visitation will be after noon Monday.

Manuel Carey, 87, of Crestview Drive, died Sunday at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born Nov. 15, 1915, in Washington County, he was the son of the late James and Vicey L. Toms Carey. He was retired from Boyle Lumber Co. and was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Bruce Carey; two daughters, Barbara Winburn of Danville and Martha K. McKiddy of Hustonville; a son, Butch Carey of Danville; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Services for Darold Bixon Coffman, 74, of Hughes Lane, will 2 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by Paul Readnour.

Born May 22, 1932, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Roy and Edith Peyton Coffman. He was a member of Salt River Baptist Church and a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Matherly Coffman; a son, Darold L. Coffman of Harrodsburg; a brother, Harold Coffman of Brodhead; and a grandson. Pallbearers will be Glenn Coffman, Logan Caldwell, Johnny Brim, Ronnie Stamps, Rudolph Mullins and Willie Sherwood. Born Oct. 15, 1919, in Ellisburg, she was the daughter of the late Winfield and Lillie Purdom Allen. She taught at Ellisburg school, was a member of the Methodist church and was the widow of Marshall Cox.

Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Frankel of Danville; and three grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hustonville Cemetery by the Rev. Don Benningfield. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home.

LANCASTER - Billy Wayne Cress, 22, of Horton Cutoff, Stanford, died Saturday in Lancaster.

Born Nov. 11, 1980, in Harlan County, he was the son of Billy and Libby Cress of Stanford. He was a student at Eastern Kentucky University and was affiliated with Lancaster Christian Church.

Other survivors include his sister, Kimberly Cress of Stanford; and grandmothers, Lillie Short of Garrard County and Irene Cress of Harlan County.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Revs. Grant Bowman and Mel Bonner. Burial will be in Dix River Cemetery, Preachersville. Pallbearers will be David Short, Chad and Nick Gilbert, Roger Banks, and Todd and Brandon Cress. Honorary pallbearers are uncles.

DAVISON, George Mosby, a Representative from Kentucky; born in Stanford, Lincoln County, Ky., March 23, 1855; attended the common schools, Stanford Academy, and Meyers Academy; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1879 and commenced practice in Stanford, Ky.; appointed collector of internal revenue for the sixth Kentucky district and served from July 20, 1885, to June 30, 1889; appointed master of chancery or commissioner of the Lincoln circuit court in 1886, and served until 1893, when he resigned; member of the State house of representatives 1886-1888; judge of the Lincoln County Court 1894-1896; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1897-March 3, 1899); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1898 to the Fifty-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of law; assistant United States attorney for the eastern district of Kentucky 1900-1910; retired from public life; died in Stanford, Ky., December 18, 1912; interment in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. MORELAND - Services for Nora Rice Dees, 102, of Stanford House Nursing Home will be 2 p.m. Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. David Smith. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. She died Thursday at Stanford House.

Born April 24, 1901, in the Rowland community of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Nettie Yaden Rice and the widow of George Moore and Preston Dees. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a brother, Edward Rice of Junction City, five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, George P. Moore and Ray D. Moore; one daughter, Jeanetta Roberts; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jack Rice, Tommy Sudduth, Bill Rice, William Denham, Pat Rice and Jim Deatherage. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

STANFORD - Services for Temple Dowden Dunn, 87, of Arlington, Va., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Baptist Church. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery.

Born Oct. 23, 1916, in Louisville, he was the son of the late Temple H. and Ione Dowden Dunn. He was a retired teacher and church organist and had worked at Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. He was a 1940 graduate of the University of Louisville with a degree in physics. He was the widower of Alice Cuemile Vinson Dunn, formerly of Lincoln County. Survivors include two sons, Temple J. Dunn and Gerrel H. Dunn, both of Arlington, Va. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Fox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Services for George R. "Bob" Durham, 79, of Erlanger, formerly of Danville, will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Tommy Valentine. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. He died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital in Florence.

Born Jan. 24, 1924, in Stanford, he was the son of the late Walter and Ada Mae Hammond Durham. He was a general yard master for Southern Railway.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Rae Durham; three sons, Robert R. Durham of Cape Coral, Fla., Joe S. Durham of Birmingham, Ala., and David E. Durham of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chad and David Keith, James Durham, Tom Davis, Herb Nugent and Jason Disney. Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. Friday.

LIBERTY - Hazel Marie Elliott, 73, of Liberty, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 8, 1930, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Kendrid R. and Nora Austin Elliott. She was a member of Mount Olive Christian Church.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Mount Olive Christian Church by the Rev. Greg Powell. Burial is in Salyers Cemetery.Visitation is 8-11:30 a.m. today at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home and after 1 p.m. at the church.

Services for Geraldine Ewing, 72, of Russell Street, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Crab Orchard by the Rev. Robert Blythe. Burial will be in Camp Nelson Cemetery. She died Thursday at her home.

Born June 25, 1934, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Penny Andrews and James Stevenson. She was a housekeeper and member of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church. She was the widow of the Rev. William Henry Ewing.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Wilkerson of Lexington, Terrie Daniels of Danville, Bernice Simpson of Lexington and Tina George of Danville; five sons, Anthony Bess of Richmond, John Bess, Ronald and Geovonia Coleman and Wm. Henry Ewing, all of Danville; three sisters, Jennie Harris of Danville, Charlie Lee Marshall of Hamilton, Ohio, and Loucilla Cruse of Dorchester, Mass.; three brothers, Robert Stevenson of Lancaster, June Stevenson of Louisville and Joseph Stevenson, address not available; 23 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

STANFORD - Chester Foley, 81, of Stanford, died Saturday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born Sept. 9, 1925, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Jesse and Cleta Kidd Foley. He was a farmer, a Baptist and the widower of Susie K. Hazlett Foley.

Survivors include a son, Ernest Foley of Lexington; seven daughters, Helen Berry, Connie Coppage and Bonnie Scharborough, all of Stanford, Linda Griffin, Iona Huffman and Edna Raider, all of Danville, and Gracie Crawley of Lancaster; 26 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. John Dean. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris House, Bobby Crawley, Sam Scharborough, Bruce Coppage, Kevin Crawley and Eddie Crawley.

MORELAND - Shelly Jullian Foley, 36, of Cave City, died Friday at University of Louisville Hospital.

Born Jan. 8, 1966, in Stanford, he was the son of the late Willie C. and Janie Hazlett Foley. He was a member of the Church of God.

LONDON - Christopher Keith Fultz, 6, of Crab Orchard, died Thursday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born May 1, 1992, in Laurel County, he was a son of Donald Fultz of Crab Orchard and Jamie Minch of Michigan. He would have been a first grade pupil at Crab Orchard Elementary School this fall.
Survivors include a stepmother, Anita Fultz; two brothers, Cory Akers and Anthony Akers, both of Crab Orchard; grandparents, Chester Fultz, Connie Wyatt and Gary and Maria Tuttle, all of Florida; and another grandmother, Vickie Schroeder of Michigan.

Born July 8, 1932, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Faynie L. Upthegrove Taylor. She was a homemaker, a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the widow of Jack Hardin.

Survivors include a son, Dudley Hardin of Moreland; two daughters, Jane Hardin and Dianne Godbey, both of Moreland; two brothers, Jim Taylor and Floyd Taylor, both of Lawrenceburg; two sisters, Lora Clem of Moreland and Gail Huffman of Midland City, Ill.; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

HELM, Harvey, a Representative from Kentucky; born in Danville, Boyle County, Ky., December 2, 1865; attended the Stanford Male Academy and was graduated from the Central University of Kentucky in 1887; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1890 and began practice in Stanford, Ky.; member of the State house of representatives in 1894; county attorney of Lincoln County 1897-1905; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1900; elected as a Democrat to the Sixtieth and to the six succeeding Congresses and served from March 4, 1907, until his death before the commencement of the Sixty-sixth Congress; chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Department of War (Sixty-second Congress), Committee on the Census (Sixty-third through Sixty-fifth Congresses); died in Columbus, Miss., March 3, 1919; interment in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford, Ky. WAYNESBURG - Services for Eugene O. Johnson, 77, of the Ellison Ridge community, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pilot Baptist Church by Bobby Cole and Derrick Durham. Burial will be in Pilot Cemetery.

Born April 21, 1929, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Robert and Jane Rose Johnson. He was a bus driver, retired after 34 years with the Lincoln County Board of Education, a deputy sheriff for four years and a Lincoln County Constable for eight years. He was a member of Pilot Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Baugh Johnson of Eubank; a son, Douglas Johnson of Eubank; a daughter, Debbie Dunn of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Oval Johnson of Eubank, and Winfred Johnson of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; two great-grandchildren, and two stepgreat- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Allen Johnson.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home and after noon Friday at the church.

STANFORD - Services for Mary K. Johnson, 70, of Hustonville, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Redemption Road Pentecostal Church by the Rev. Gary Yocum. Burial will be in Angel Ridge Cemetery.

Born May 12, 1933, in Kenton County, she was the daughter of the late Roy R. and Carrie V. Rankin Robinson. She was a saleswoman for Towncraft Cookware and a member of Redemption Road Pentecostal Church. She was the widow of Stanley L. Johnson. Survivors include a son, Stanley R. Johnson of Birdseye, Ind.; six daughters, Patricia Walls of McKinney, Stanetta Doss of Danville, Rosemary Hazlett, Kathleen Merrell and Melva Cochran, all of Stanford, and Thelma Johnson of South Fork; a brother, Jim Price of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Becky Upton and Louise Remley, both of Covington; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Donald Martin Jr., Harry Hazlett, Greg Doss, Justin Merrell, Dale Irvin and Cody Merrell. Honorary pallbearers are Harvey Taylor, Danny Coffman Jr., Holton and Dennis Cochran, Jerry Sears and Jerry Walls.

LANCASTER - Services for Josie Joseph, 75, of Fall Lick Road, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ramsey Funeral Home by Willie Day. Burial will be in Dix River Cemetery.

Born June 25, 1928, in Leslie County, she was the daughter of the late Ballard and Lizzie Howard Howard. She was a homemaker and a member of Dix River Church of Christ.

Survivors include four daughters, Dora Lee Morgan of Dayton, Ohio, Chris Wall of Stanford, Brenda Rice of Fort Smith, Ark., and Becky Burkhart of Crab Orchard; two sons, Kenny Morgan of Lancaster and Carlos Morgan of Crab Orchard; a sister, Gladys Lewis of London; three brothers, Earn Howard of Pineville, Bob Howard of Georgia, and Ervin Howard of London; her former husband, Willie Joseph of Lancaster; 22 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

MORELAND – Kevin Lynn King, 35, of Moreland, died Saturday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born April 23, 1969, in Danville , he was the son of J.C. and Agnes McGirr King of Stanford. He was a general contractor and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Teri King; two daughters, Tara L. King and Tayah L. King , both at home; a son, Joseph King of Junction City; a sister, Norma J. Casey of Stanford; and a brother, Ricky King of Junction City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by David Fralix. Burial will be in McGirr-Sandidge Cemetery.

Robert "Red" Lackey, 96, formerly of Lincoln County, died Friday at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Born Oct. 17, 1907, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late William D. and Mary Jane Lackey. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was retired. Survivors include a nephew, William Lackey of Frankfort.

Services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Boneyville Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Coulter Jr. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Reid, Ernest Gooch, Robert Brown, Clarence Gooch, Billy Masterson and Edward Brown. Honorary pallbearers are John Gooch and George Logan. Born Oct. 14, 1950, in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of Edna Mae Zackery Lake of Crab Orchard and the late Scott Lake. She was an employee of Gulf States paper company for 28 years and a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.

Durham of Yosemite; her companion, Doug Smith of Waynesburg; two sisters, Faye Middleton and Barbara Scheffler, both of Crab Orchard; four brothers, Robert Lancaster of Upton and Garnet Lancaster of Naples, Fla., Donald Lake and Scotty Lake, both of Crab Orchard.

STANFORD - Russell Harold Martin, 80, of Phillips Court, Stanford, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 14, 1923, in Hoopston, Ill., he was the son of the late Percy W. and Dosa C. Martin.

He was a supervisor of Lincoln County Schools for 18 years, retiring in 1982. He was a teacher at McKinney School for nine years and principal at McKinney High School for nine years. He was a 1941 graduate of McKinney High School, received a master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University, and performed doctorate work at the University of Kentucky. Survivors include four sons, Earl and Carl Wilson, both of Moreland, Marvin Wilson of Hustonville, and Donald Wilson of Newport; two daughters, Dorothy Price of Hustonville and Pauline Moberly of Nicholasville; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Troy, Timmy, Kevin, Eric, Carl Lee and Marvin Wilson Jr. and Jeff and Jerry Moberly.Visitation will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday.
