CRAB ORCHARD - Willie Allen, 74, of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center.  
Born May 16, 1930, he was a Korean War veteran and a member of Crab Orchard Pentecostal Church.  
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Johnson of Franklin, Maine, and Loretta Wood of Deland, Fla.; two sons, Steve 
Allen of Crab Orchard and Jim Allen of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Edna Hiter of Harrodsburg and Marie Tomlinson and 
Jane Dye, both of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Eddie and Ira Allen, both of Crab Orchard; four grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Red Hill Church in Livingston. Burial will be in Red Hill Church Cemetery. Visitation 
will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at McKnight Funeral Home.

BEGLEY, Walter A.                                                                d. 24 Jan 1997
CRAB ORCHARD - Walter Arbie Begley, 70, of 642 Elm Street, died Friday at the Veterans Administration hospital in 
Lexington after an illness. Born Feb. 1, 1926, in Letcher County, he was a son of the late Estice and Ida Mae Wells Begley. 
He was a retired highway construction manager from the Watts Call Construction Company in Lexington. He was a veteran 
of the Army, having served in World War II. He was a trustee of the Immanuel Baptist Church, where he also was the song 
leader. He also served as a foster parent for 39 children.
Survivors include his wife, Arbedella Adams Begley; three daughters, Barbara Bennett of Cincinnati, Susan Wilder of Crab 
Orchard and Laura Cook of Stanford; two sons, Robert Begley and William Begley, both of Cincinnati; two brothers, Boyd 
Begley of Bronston, Ky., and William P. Begley of Lexington; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 39 foster children.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McKnight-Martin Funeral Home chapel by Ron Meece and Cecil Roundtree. 
Burial with military rites by the Caswell Saufley American Legion Post #18 of Stanford will be in Maretburg Cemetery, 
Rockcastle County.
Pallbearers are William, Robert, and Andrew Begley, Phillip Shepherd, Robert Begley Jr., and Raymond Wells. Visitation is 
after 6 p.m. Monday.

STANFORD - Graveside services for Fred Murphy Berry, 84, of McKinney Court, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lancaster 
Cemetery by the Rev. Stewart Dawson.  He died Sunday at his home.
Born Jan. 13, 1914, in Stanford, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Nora Daugherty Berry. He was a retired construction 
worker with the University of Kentucky and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Mary 
Kathryn Gooch Berry.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Durham of Stanford and Kathy Berry of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Ann Williams of New 
Albany, Ind.; a brother, Walter Berry of Berea; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Heritage Hospice of Danville.

STANFORD - Jeannie E. Blanton, 83, of Waynesburg, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1914, in Indiana, she was a daughter of the late John and Katherine Flora. She was a retired seamstress with 
Palm Beach Company, and a member of World Wide Church of God. She was the widow of Lester E. Blanton.
Survivors include four sons, Ralph Blanton of Waynesburg, Roger Blanton of Ohio, Terry and Richard Blanton, both of Crab 
Orchard; three daughters, Marie Laudermilk of Florida, Judy Caudill of Waynesburg and Janice Blanton of Georgia; many 
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Blanton.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in Crab Orchard 
Cemetery.
Pallbearers are David Caudill, Wayne Hines, Matthew Sims, Chuck Buschur, Aaron Sims, Jeff Blanton and Mike Wash.

WAYNESBURG -- Robert W. Blevins, 76, of Ky. 328, died Friday at his home. Born June 12, 1926 in Parnell, Ky., he was 
the son of the late James and Emily Miller Blevins. He was a retired stock chaser of 37 years for General Motors in Anderson, Ind. 
He was a World War II Navy Veteran and member of the Baptist faith.  
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Ball Blevins; three sons, Robert A. Blevins of Anderson, Ind., Charles M. Blevins of Harrodsburg 
and David J. Blevins of Waynesburg; five daughters, Linda Catt of Terre Haute, Ind., Darlene Layman of Anderson, Ind., Sue Johnson 
of Marion, Ind.,  Ida E. Roberts of Burgin and Stephanie L. Blevins of Waynesburg; three brothers, Oscar and Jess Blevins, both of 
New Castle, Ind. and Marion Blevins of Spiceland, Ind.; two sisters, Delcie Decker of Louisville and Eva Hollars of New Castle, Ind.; 
five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dide, Frank, France and Columbus Blevins and a sister, Stella Ross.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home by Bro. Vola Brown. Burial will be in Camp Nelson 
National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert A. Blevins, Charles Morgan, Alan Layman and Derek Catt.

CRAB ORCHARD -- Beulah G. Smith Brown, 79, of Broughtontown, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 1, 1923, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lela Brown Smith. She was member of Mt. Zion 
Church of Christ and charter member of Broughtontwon Community Center. She was the widow of Vernon Brown.
Survivors include a son, Harold Brown of Muncie, Ind.; two daughters, Sue Painter of Cold Springs and Phyllis Braley of Crab 
Orchard; a brother, Ronald H. Smith of Danville; two sisters, Aldean Seltsam and Audrey Hurt, both of Danville; six grandchildren 
and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at McKnight Funeral Home by Gerald Carter and Ernie Arnold. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Church 
of Christ Cemetery.

STANFORD - Services for Gloud ``Junior'' Byrd Jr., 68, Sherwood Drive, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fox Funeral Home by the 
Rev. Russell Puckett. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
He died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born August 8, 1928, in Paris, he was a son of the late Gloud and Cora Phillips Byrd. He was a retired truck driver and a member of 
Fellowship Holiness Church, Nicholasville.
Survivors include his wife, La Verne Vaught Byrd; two sons, Gary Byrd of Danville and J.P. Byrd of Stanford; a daughter, Donna 
Byrd of Danville; a brother, Robert Brummett of Stanford; six sisters, Dorothy Boyd, Ruby Lawson, Lucille Sullivan and Betty 
Sanchez, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; Carolyn Hale and Johnetta Sizemore, both of Stanford; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Stanley Young. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18, American Legion.
He died Saturday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Lexington.
Born April 9, 1929, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Everett and Maggie Pike Caldwell. He was a farmer and construction 
worker. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Parksville Knob Baptist Church and the widower of Minnie 
King Caldwell.
Survivors include two sons, Robert H. Caldwell and Eddie Carter, both of Stanford; two daughters, Wanda Rowe of Wheelwright 
and Kathy Collett of Lexington; a foster son, Billy Reed of Lexington; a foster daughter, Betty Southworth of Lexington; a brother, 
Billy Joe Caldwell of Danville; two sisters, Lucille Hilton and Pearlie Belcher, both of Danville; and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Johnny and Donnie King, Danny and Gary Caldwell, Jamie Wayne, Brian Gooch, Allen Hilton and Ricky Belcher.

She died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born July 29, 1915, in Stanford, she was a daughter of the late James J. Wilmot and Katie F. Gooch. She was a homemaker, a member 
of Parksville Christian Church and the widow of Collins Carney.
Survivors include a brother, James R. Wilmot of Lexington; two sisters, Vivian W. Price of Stanford and Annola Wilmot of Danville.
Pallbearers will be David Cocanougher, John, Ralph and Lee Wilmot, Tom Sudduth, Leroy Boone Jr. and James Gooch.

Thompson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, formerly of Stanford, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery, 
services by the Rev. Jim Irwin. He died Friday at his residence.
Born Feb. 14, 1917, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Carl A. and Lucy Lee Walton Carter. He was retired from the 
Navy, in which he served 18 years, and was a World War II veteran, and a member of Stanford Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Eddie Carter of Stanford; a daughter, Nancy Carter Ball of Stanford; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Spurlin Funeral Home.

CHAMBERS, Margaret Elizabeth , 85, of South Third Street died today at Stanford House nursing home.
Born Aug. 5, 1916, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Addie Troxel Boyd. She was a homemaker and 
member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.  
Survivors include five daughters, Betty Peavyhouse of Danville, Barbara Woods of Moreland, Charlotte Showalter of Stevenspoint, 
Wis., Darlene Sanders of Danville and Marlene Douglas of Stanford; a son, Paul Chambers of Danville; three sisters, Rosie Poynter 
of Lancaster, Emogene Baker of Columbus, Ind.,  and Nellie Goode of Junction City; a brother, Ray Boyd of Indianapolis,
Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clifton Chambers, and two sons, Morris L. and Richard Chambers. Services 
will be 2 p.m. Friday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by Harold Best. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Born July 11, 1932, in Linefork, Ky., he was the son of the late Chester Arthur Cornett and Maggie McKnight Cornett. He was a 
professor at Somerset Community College and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Deva Marceline Stephens Cornett; a son, Stephen Cornett of Waynesburg; a daughter, Stephanie Black 
of Waynesburg; three brothers, Ernest and Herman Cornett, both of Waynesburg, and Chester Cornett of Halls Gap; three sisters, 
Leanor Bowman of Cincinnati, Frances Godbey of Waynesburg and Betty Foister of Knoxville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

MORELAND - Services for Lucille M. Delk, 85, of Charleston Health Care Center, formerly of the Mount Salem community,

Born April 16, 1919, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late George and Mina Swope Lucas. She was owner of 
Delk's Grocery in Mount Salem and a member of Mount Salem Baptist Church. She was the widow of Otis Lee Delk.

Survivors include a son, Otis Gene Delk of Mount Salem; a daughter, Nancy R. Simpson of Cincinnati; three brothers, Lester, 
Virgil and Norman Lucas, all of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Born Sept. 27, 1917, in Anderson County, Tenn., he was a son of the late Roscoe and Bethlelee Cantrell Derry. He was a retired 
28-year employee of Southern Railroad, and was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Esther Brown Derry of Rockford, Ill.; five sons, Frank Derry of Kings Mountain, James Derry 
of Highland, Jack, Gary and Ronald Derry, all of Rockford; three daughters, Vivian Richmond, Ann Mitchell and Wanda Swardwood, 
all of Rockford; a sister, Lyon McFalls of Kings Mountain; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Mullins. Burial will be in Gooch Cemetery.

He died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1914, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Elvin and Artie Walls Durham Johnson. He was a farm laborer and 
a Navy veteran of World War II. He belonged to Mount Olive Christian Church. He was the widower of Della Johnson Durham. 
A daughter, Janet Durham, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Jerold L. Durham of Mason, Ohio, George E. Durham of Batesville, Ind. and James E. Durham of 
Cincinnati, Ohio; four brothers, Curtis Durham and Jack Denny Johnson, both of Stanford, Terrill Durham of Berea and Elvin Durham 
Jr. of Campbellsville; three sisters, Louada Smith of Stanford; Maxine Dela of Ludlow and Myrtle Duttera of Newark, Ohio and five 
grandchildren.

CRAB ORCHARD - James Wilson ``Jim'' Edwards, 83, of Burgin Street, died Friday at Fort Logan Hospital, Stanford.
Born July 29, 1915, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late William Edgar and Nannie Wilson Edwards. He was a former 
co-owner of S & T Hardware Store in Crab Orchard and a farmer. He was a member of Turkeytown Baptist Church until the 
church was destroyed by fire. Since 1951, he belonged to Watts Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by twin sons, 
Danny Dale Edwards and Jimmy Lee Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Baker Edwards; one daughter, Brenda LaFevers of Crab Orchard; two granddaughters; four 
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home Chapel by Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Crab Orchard 
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Buddy Hawkins, Barney Hoskins, Ralph Baker, Jefferson Calico, Mike Hawkins and Johnathan Edwards.

LANCASTER - Services for William Levi Elam, 71, of Hill-N-Dale Street, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the 
Revs. Don Hatton and Gary Story. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.  He died Sunday at home.
Born Dec. 25, 1926, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Willie C. and Alla Mae Elam. He was a former employee of Garrard 
County Board of Education where he worked as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Lancaster United Methodist Church 
and an Army veteran. He was also a member of American Legion Post 0035 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 4075 of Franklin County. 
He was a Kentucky Colonel and former member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Carey Elam; a son, Danny Elam of Lancaster; a stepson, David Smith II; and a stepdaughter, Linda S. 
Wilcher; a brother, Joe D. Elam of Frankfort; four step grandchildren; and a great-step grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, William A. Elam. 
Pallbearers will be Caywood Metcalf, Jimmy Adkinson, E.J. Hasty, Carl Carter, J.K. Simpson and Kenny Hurt,

WAYNESBURG - Alamander Eldridge Jr., 74, of Pleasant Point School Road, died Sunday at Veterans Administration Medical Center. 
Born Aug. 31, 1923, in Letcher County, he was a son of the late Alamander and Mary J. Banks Eldridge. He was a retired employee of 
Lincoln Lumber Co., and an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Liza Boggs Eldridge; two sons, Jeffery Eldridge of Enid, Okla., and Anthony W. Eldridge of Gallatin, Tenn.; 
three daughters, Cordelia Pruitt and Annette Young, both of Gallatin, Tenn., and Nancy Terry of Louisville; two brothers, Delmer Ratliff 
of Waynesburg and Matt Eldridge of Lebanon, Ohio; a sister, Irene Wike of Ypsilanti, Mich.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott Young, Adam Huff, Drew Yarborough, Dale and Harold Ratliff and Louie Wilson.

STANFORD - Lorene Erwin, 82, of Stanford House Nursing Home, formerly of Cynthiana, died Thursday in Stanford.
Born Jan. 13, 1917, in St. Louis, Mo., she was a daughter of the late John C. and Mary Baker Roberts. She was a bookkeeper for J.C. 
Penney for many years, a member of Cynthiana Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women. She was the widow of James J. ``Jack'' Erwin.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. James Erwin of Stanford; two brothers, Howard Roberts of Overland, Mo., and Gerald Roberts of Oak 
Ridge, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Tom Farmer. A private burial service will be held Monday. 
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today.

Services for Hazel Carter Feistritzer, 85, of Bonta Lane will be 11 a.m. Thursday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church by the Revs. 
Paul Prabell and Richard Sullivan. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. She died Sunday at her home. 
Born Jan. 3, 1917, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall G. and Lula Mae Wade Carter. She was an elementary 
school teacher, having taught at SS Peter and Paul Catholic School, Junction City and Elk Cave elementary schools, and a homemaker. 
She was a member of the Ladies Guild at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a graduate of Moreland High School and attended Eastern 
Kentucky University. She also was a member of the Democratic Women's Club and the widow of August Feistritzer.
Survivors include three sons, Drew and Paul Feistritzer, both of Danville, and Richard Feistritzer of Brentwood, Tenn.; four daughters, 
Emily Feistritzer of Washington, D.C., Helen Milburn of Danville, and Kathy Feistritzer and Donna Hudson, both of Louisville; a 
sister, Lucille Almond of Charlottesville, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by a son, Joe Feistritzer.
Pallbearers will be Joe, Mike and P.J. Feistritzer, and Scott, Jerry and Carl Carter.Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday with a 
prayer service at 8:30 p.m. at Stith Funeral Home.

Lexington, formerly of Waynesburg, she was a daughter of Helen Miller of Waynesburg and the late Harvey Miller. She was a member of

RCA Co-op and Wavetech.

Services were held Saturday at Little & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. John Dimmick with burial in Washington Park East Cemetery.

STANFORD - J.C. Fletcher, 90, of Stanford, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born May 14, 1908, in New Salem, he was a son of the late Willie and Amy Wall Fletcher. He was a retired maintenance supervisor 
for the Lincoln County Board of Education, a member and deacon of McKinney Baptist Church and a former deacon of New Salem 
Baptist Church. He also served on the McKinney Water Board for many years and was a charter member of the Ruritan Club.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Baugh Fletcher; three sons, Lewis Fletcher of Richmond, Va., Hershel Fletcher of Junction City and 
Dallas Fletcher of Stanford; four daughters, Amy Maxey of Shelbyville, Frankie Barlow and Sue Martin, both of Stanford, and Nancy 
Henson of Moreland; a sister, Essie Wall of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two step 
grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph B. Fletcher; and a stepmother, Yuba Toombs Fletcher.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McKinney Baptist Church by the Revs. James Bland and Bob Bausum. Burial will be in New 
Salem Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John, Terry, Jon, James, Mitchell, Jeremy and Joshua Fletcher and Kent Hundley.

Born April 5, 1915, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Ransom and Rosa Napier Hatter. He was a retired Southern Railroad 
employee and farmer. He was a member of Grove Ridge Baptist Church and was a World War II Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Walls Hatter; a daughter, Roberta Hatter.
Survivors include five sons, Dallas Hatter of Waynesburg, Leonard and Bobby Gene Hatter, both of Lawrenceburg, and Lynville and 
Ronnie Hatter, both of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Jo Anna Floyd and Rose Alma Sims, both of Kings Mountain, and Juanita

Orchard Eastern Star. She was the widow of Roy G. Hendrickson.

and a deacon at Pleasant Point Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Jenkins; three brothers, John A. Jenkins of Waynesburg, William Jenkins of Kings Mountain

Department of Transportation road foreman. He also drove a bus for 14 years for the Lincoln County school system. He was a 
former employee of the ASCS office and was a farmer. He was the widower of Ethel Schmitz Mullins.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Mullins of Waynesburg; a son, Steve Mullins of Waynesburg; two sisters, Nora Caldwell of 
Dayton, Ohio, and Mildred Sebastian of Stanford; a brother, Aubrey Mullins of Franklin, Ohio; four grandchildren; and a great-
grandchild.

George King Pruitt Sr., 85, of Barbee Way, died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born July 24, 1911, in Moreland, he was a son of Mary Jane King and George Booker Pruitt. He was a licensed funeral director 
and embalmer, attended Campbellsville College and University of Kentucky and earned a degree embalming and funeral directing 
at Melton School of Embalming.
He was a former employee of Don. V. Drye Funeral Home, Lebanon, and with John W. Hickey, founded Pruitt-Hickey Funeral 
Home in Lebanon. Later, he and James B. Preston purchased Thurman Funeral Home in Danville, now Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home.
He was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 28 and all local Masonic bodies, Oleika Shrine, Order of Eastern Star, Lions Club, 
Salvation Army, and The United Way. He was a member and elder at First Christian Church where he was named elder emeritus. He 
was also a clock repairman.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle Elizabeth Wall Pruitt; two daughters, Mary Jo Coomer of Danville and Anne Elizabeth Hood of 
Alpena, Mich.; a son, G. King Pruitt Jr.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church by the Rev. Norman Hagley. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

registered nurse and surgical nursing supervisor, and a Seventh Day Adventist.

Born May 16, 1905, in Oklahoma, she was a daughter of Daniel and Carrie Baker. She was a homemaker and the widow 
of Edgar Floyd Short. Five sons preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Paul Short of Russell Springs, James T. Short of Cincinnati, Kelly Short of Rusk, Texas; two 
daughters, Katherine Rousey of Danville and Louise Coffman of Liberty; 43 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and 
14 great-great-grandchildren.

Born Aug. 9, 1916, in South Rockwood, Mich., he was a son of the late Lewis and Mary Liagines Smock. He was a 
paper mill worker.
Survivors include his wife, Detty May Smock; seven sons, Wayne, Gerald and Charles Smock, all of Tazewell, Tenn., 
Leland and Kenny Smock of Monroe, Mich., Ralph Smock of Taylor, Mich., and Jack Smock of Toledo, Ohio; six 
daughters, Marilyn Williams of New York, JoAnn Crisp and Charlene Combs, both of Cumberland Gap, Tenn., Peggy 
Homer of Taylor, Kathy Costigan of New Hampshire and Denise Owens of Tazewell; 32 grandchildren; several 
great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Smock.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Double Springs Cemetery by the Rev. Brad King.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. Friday until time of service at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home.

Amanda Sizemore, Wilma Padgett and Mary Messer, all of Waynesburg, Emma Mullins of Stanford, Linda Mitchell of Augusta, 
Ga., and Margaret Caldwell of Danville; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

STANFORD -- Frebert Virgil "Tommy" Thompson, 80, of Lexington died Saturday at Veterans Administration Medical 
Center in Lexington.
Born Oct. 11, 1922, in Kings Mountain, he was a son of the late William V. and Gertrude Godbey Thompson. He was a 
draftsman and worked at General Electric Co. where he designed aircraft components and also worked for the Lexington-Fayette 
County street department. He was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church and was an Air Force veteran who served in 
World War II and the Korean War as a captain. 
Survivors include his wife, Mary Nowell Thompson; a son, Kim Thompson of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepson, Phil Ingram of 
Albuquerque; a stepdaughter, Anita Meyer of Mount Orab, Ohio; three brothers, Lynnville Thompson of Valdosta, Ga., 
Gerald Thompson of Richmond and Harold Thompson of Dayton, Ohio; two grandchildren; and six step grandchildren. 
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Locust Grove Baptist Church by Steve Jarrell and John Dean. Burial will be in 
KP Hall Cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at the church.

STANFORD - Services for Ervin D. Wall, who operated a country store in Kings Mountain for many years and was active
in Lincoln County politics, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fox Funeral Home by Greg Powell. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs 
Cemetery.
Wall, who was 74, died Wednesday in Walltown. He was a staunch Democrat who often helped candidates by taking them 
around to meet people and stump for votes. Wall knew many people and was influential in local politics.
``Anytime you were running for office, especially if you were a Democrat, he was the first person you talked to in the Kings 
Mountain area,'' said David Gambrel, Lincoln County's property valuation administrator.``He epitomized what is the best about 
politics - a love for people.'' When Gambrel ran for PVA and earlier when he made a bid for the county clerk's office, it was 
Wall who took him around to campaign. Candidates seeking state or Congressional offices also knew of Wall's influence. 
Former governors Bert Combs, Louie Nunn, Wendell Ford and Julian Carroll all stopped by the store at one time or another.
``As much as he loved politics, children were really what made him click,'' said Gambrel. ``Kids who didn't know him immediately 
took a liking to him.'' Wall loved his own children and grandchildren and made friends of other kids he encountered. If he was out 
with a candidate on the campaign trail, he would take along a bag of candy so he could give treats to the children.
Every year when Kings Mountain United Methodist Church would have Vacation Bible School, Wall would bring ice cream for 
the children. He also gave the church part of his property on which to build a parsonage.
Wall also served as the community's unofficial utility superintendent. Kings Mountain had a Ruritan Club at one time that formed 
a Light Association and put in street lights. After the club became inactive, Wall would go around and collect money to pay the 
utility bill.
People who got sick in the middle of the night could count on Wall to open his store on Ky. 501 at any hour if they needed medicine. 
Wall lived across from the store, which closed when he retired eight or nine years ago.
T.J. Hill IV of Stanford says people who needed help reading or filling out important documents also turned to Wall.
``He just loved people and he loved kids. I think a lot of his interest in politics was that he loved being out and seeing people,
'' said Hill, who sought Wall's help when he ran for sheriff last year.
Born Oct. 31, 1924, in Lincoln County, Wall was a son of the late Charles E. and Lillie Sims Wall. He was a former owner and 
operator of Wall's General Store in Kings Mountain for 36 years and a farmer. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member 
and ordained elder at Kings Mountain Christian Church. He attended Mount Olive Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Dunaway Wall; two daughters, Janet Perry of Walltown and Bertha Whitaker of Danville; two 
brothers, Noel K. Wall of Florence and Earl L. Wall of Kings Mountain; two grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. He 
was preceded in death by a son, Ervin ``Kyle'' Wall.
Pallbearers will be David Gambrel, T.J. Hill, John Hackley, Buckwheat Gilbert, Robert Wall and Billy Wall. Honorary pallbearers 
are Ernest Williams, Bobby Wall, Donna Carman, Tom Austin, Ed Worley, Jimmy Jones, Robert Damron and Robert Ratliff. 
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Saturday.

STANFORD - Robert Clifton Winn, 86, of Harmon Heights, died Thursday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born in Horse Cave, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Annie Richardson Winn. He was a multi-county supervisor for 
Farmers Home Administration. He was a member and deacon of Stanford Baptist Church and helped establish the senior 
citizens center and Dix River Country Club. He was the widower of Elizabeth Taylor Winn.
Survivors include three daughters, Kaye Matthews of Birmingham, Ala., Jeanette Winn of Seattle, Wash., and Anna R. 
Pauley of Clermont, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Stanford Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Boschen. Burial will be in Danville Memorial 
Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Eric Gilliland, David Arno, Ed Pauley, Jack Matthews, Lloyd Longnion and Paul Long. Honorary 
pallbearers are Ottis Cave, David Pettus, Wesley Sims, Harold Davenport, Arnold Stogsdill and Welby Hamm.

Mike Wren of Junction City; two daughters, Brenda Hillard of Parksville and Teresa Wren of Clay City; two stepsons, Robbie 
Walters of Nicholasville and Johnny McKnight of Olympia; two stepdaughters, Barbara Carrier and Linda Stafford, both of 
Danville; two brothers, Woodrow Wren of Danville and Bill Wren of Lancaster; two sisters, Pat Vice and Pearl Payne, both 
of Danville; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Wren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by Gary Story. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Born March 31, 1921, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the Alte Cleave and Lilly King Wren. He was a retired farmer and 
a member of Burgin Church of God. 
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Wilkerson Wren; two daughters, Jenny Boyd of Danville and Brenda Hillard of Parksville; 
three sons, Curtis Wren of Parksville and David Wren and Glen Wren, both of Danville; a sister, Pearl Payne of Danville; 
11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wren. 
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Donnie Irvin and Buddy Turpin. Burial will be 
in Bellevue Cemetery.
