Mr. Thomas Austin, 84, Kings MT passed away Wednesday December 19, 2001 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

He was born November 27, 1917, a son of the late Hanford Austin and Isabelle (Stamper) Austin. He was a Farmer, Miner, a member of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge #328 and a member of Little Pilgrims Rock Old Regular Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Venessie (Watts) Austin whom he married on September 2, 1939: one son, Ronda (and Gloria) Austin, Lancaster, PA: two daughters, Nelda (and James) Fields, Whitesburg, KY and Evelyn (and Steven) Hensley, Versailles, KY: one sister, Marjorie Adams, Whitesburg, KY: two good friends, Robert Ratliff and Raymond Rogers, Kings Mt.: 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: four brothers, Arvil, Claude, john and Lotus Austin: one grandchild, Ronica Lynn Austin.

Funeral services will be at Noon, Saturday December 22, 2001 at the Little Pilgrims Rock Old Regular Baptist Church in Waynesburg, KY with Brother Charles Tackett, Brother Grant Tackett and Brother Murl Caudill officiating. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6:00 P.M. at Little Pilgrims Rock Old Regular Baptist Church.

BAILEY, George W., Sr.                                                           d. 26 Sep 2005

George W. Bailey, Sr., 93, of Crab Orchard, died on Monday, Sept. 26 at the Christian Care Center in Lancaster.

A native of Harlan Co., he was born June 5, 1912 to the late Enoch and Martha Saylor Bailey. He was a 1932 graduate of Lincoln Memorial College, member of the High Splint Baptist Church, former Crab Orchard City Clerk, Police Judge, and board member of the Crab Orchard Medical Clinic, a retired radio and television repairman, and the widower of Drusilla Williams Bailey.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bess Pennington and Luda Bailey; and a brother, William Bailey.

Survivors include six daughters, Sharon Dale and Sheila (Dickie) Kidd both of Stanford, Janet Parson of Louisville, Martha Moore of Lexington, Barbara (Rick) Maschek of Hesperia, CA., and Susan (David) Sowder of Lancaster; one son, George W. (Lois) Bailey, Jr. of Rocky Mount, NC.; one brother, John Bailey of Cleveland, TN.; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, Sept. 29) at 1 p.m. at the McKnight Funeral Home with Bro. Daryl Hodge officiating. Burial will be in the Crab Orchard Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Reed Parsons, Scott and David Sowder, Jesse Crenshaw, Dickie Kidd and Brian Bailey.

BAKER, Violet M.                                                                   d. 24 Aug 2005

Violet May Baker, 27, of Junction City, died Wednesday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born Sept. 14, 1977, in Dowagiac, Mich., she was the daughter of Sharon L. Phillips Baker of Junction City and the late Daniel J. Baker. She was a student at National College of Business and a member of Health Occupation Students of America. She was a graduate of Garrard County High School and a member of the Holiness church.

Other survivors include four brothers, Vernon Baker of Monroeville, Ind., Danny R. Baker of Lancaster, Eugene A. Lucas of Constantine, Mich., and Kevin L. Lucas of Elkhart, Ind.; and three sisters, Amy S. Baker and Connie L. Riley, both of Junction City, and Amanda L. Hale of Berea.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Arnold Saylor Jr. Burial will be in Ramsey Cemetery, Crab Orchard.

BASTIN, Johnetta                                                                    d. 01 Oct 2005

Johnetta Bastin, 58, of Halls Gap, died Saturday, Oct. 1 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

A native of Lincoln Co., she was born April 6, 1947 to the late Earl and Dollie Slone Bastin. She worked at ATR for 25 years and was a member of the Mt. Moriah Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Carpenter of McKinney and Danny Smith of Broughtontown; two brothers, Albert Bastin of Halls Gap and Dean Bastin of Burnside; three sisters, Louise Miracle and Jo Board both of Halls Gap and Tootsie Roberts of Liberty; four grandchildren, Brittany Carpenter, Alyssa Smith, Zebadiah Carpenter and Ansleigh Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Mt. Moriah Christian Church with Rev. Rob Cox officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Scott Carpenter, Danny Smith, Bill Miracle, Greg Miracle, Jamie Board, Jeff Board, Marc Muse, and Rob Muse. Spurlin Funeral Home of Stanford was in charge of the arrangements.

Edith Wilder Bell, 95, of Orange City, Fla., formerly of Moreland, died Sunday in Orange City.
Born Sept. 25, 1902, in Harrodsburg, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Argin Worley Wilder. She was a postal 
clerk for Moreland Post Office, a member of Hustonville Baptist Church and the widow of Allen E. Bell.
Survivors include a sister, Thelma Russell of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at
Hustonville Cemetery by the Rev. Kenneth Fendley.
Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home.

Pauline Coleman Bird, 83, of Stanford, formerly of Lexington, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001. Born in Mt. Vernon, 
she was the daughter of the late Herbert Tandy and Pauline Coleman Young. She was a member of Woodland Christian 
Church, Lexington.   Survivors include several nieces, including Mrs. Raymond Caudell of Versailles; and six great- A nieces 
and -nephews. A sister, Hester Louise Bowman, and a brother, James Preston Young, are   deceased. Private funeral service 
was conducted in the Lexington Cemetery by the Rev. William B. Kincaid III. The W. R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway, Lexington, 
was in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Woodland Christian Church.

BOYER, Juanita Marler

ELLSINORE, MO - Juanita Sue Marler Boyer, 70, of Ellsinore died Wednesday, March 2, 2005.

Mrs. Boyer was born Dec. 24, 1934, in Waynesboro, KY. She was the daughter of the late John T. and Molly M. Petrey 
Marler. She was a lifetime resident of the Ellsinore area and a retired nurse having worked in the Doctor's Hospital in Poplar 
Bluff and in Home Health Care. She was a member of the Lord's Chapel Church. She enjoyed being active in her church and 
her cats, horses and livestock.

On Feb. 29, 1964, she was united in marriage to Charles Boyer at Eminence. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Mary Sue Skiner, Shyanne Buffington and Sarah Diane Hayes, all of Poplar Bluff; three 
sons, Charlie J. Boyer of Tulsa, Okla., Rowdy Dale Boyer and Paul Edward Boyer, both of Poplar Bluff; one half-sister, Ruby 
Alcorn of Rockcastle, Ky.; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. 
in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Greg Faughn officiating. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Ellsinore. [Daily

Roberta Bright, 85, of Stanford, died Friday at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born Feb. 10, 1920, in Stanford, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Betty Helm. She was a member of Boneyville Baptist 
Church, Pansy Social Club, Federation Association of Colored Women's Club and first vice president of South District Women's 
Missionary Auxiliary. She was retired from National Casket Co., formerly in Lancaster, and the widow of Jesse F. "Frank" Bright.

Survivors include a stepson, Jesse F. Bright of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Maxine Stevenson of Cincinnati; a brother, Joe Will
Helm of Stanford; and two sisters, Viola Farmer of Cincinnati and Mildred Gooch of Stanford.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Boneyville Baptist Church by Robert Coulter Jr. and Oliver Miller Jr. Burial will be in Crab 
Orchard Cemetery

BULLOCK, James William "Dub"                                      d. 19 Jan 2004

James William "Dub" Bullock, Jr., 55, of Richmond, died Monday, January 19, 2004, at his home. He was born on 
January 1, 1949 in Crab Orchard, KY and was the son of Nola Brock Bullock and the late James W. Bullock, Sr.

He was a decorated Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a life member 
of the V.F.W. Post #7098, Richmond, a Kentucky Colonel and a life member of AMVETS since 1983. He was the 
owner and operator of Yesterday's Bar & Grill, a local Richmond Club.

He is survived by the love of his life, Arlene Hammons, of Richmond; his mother, Nola Bullock of Winchester; three sisters, 
Charlene (Glenn) Allen, Sue (Ray) Carpenter and Janet (Wayne) Gibson, all of Winchester; four brothers, Carl B. (Charlotte), 
Paul, Dale, and Jimmy Bullock, all of Winchester as well as many aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and many dear Richmond 
friends and patrons.

Pallbearers will be Glen Allen, Scott Allen, Wayne Gibson, Carl Wayne Ashcraft, Robbie Hammons and Jimmy Dale 
Carpenter. Dean Brock and members of the VFW will serve as honorary bearers.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004, at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home with Tommy 
Schooler officiating. Burial will follow at the Winchester Cemetery where military honors will be observed. Visitation will 
be from 9 a.m. Thursday until service time at the funeral home.

BURKE, Paris, Sr.

Mr. Paris Burke, Sr., 81, of Crab Orchard, KY, died on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at his home. He was the husband of 
Mrs. Sally Hazel Wallin Burke.

He was born on April 8, 1923 in East Bernstadt, KY to the late Pete and Elizabeth (Brummett) Burke. He was a retied 
employee of the Texas Eastern Gas Company. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Beech 
Grove Baptist Church.  

Survivors include; his wife Sally of Crab Orchard, whom he married on November 26, 1948; daughters; Brenda (Ray) 
Denny of Crab Orchard, Shirley (Terry) Weber of Nicholasville, KY., Diane (Wayne) Edwards of Paint Lick, KY., 
one son, Paris Burke, Jr. (Liz) of Stanford, Ky. Also surviving are brothers; J. W. and Glen, both of Brodhead, KY., 
Bobby of Pensacola, FL.

Sisters; Ella Mae Lanham of Berea, Ky, Jewell Maxine Murphy of Colonial Heights, VA., Shirley Smith, of Crab 
Orchard; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sandy Kay Burke, brothers; James Boyd Burke, Edwine Burke 
and Pete Burke, Jr. and a sister, Rosa Lee Nickell.

Pallbearers are; Michael Edwards, Chris Cope, Andrew Denny, Mathew Cope, Jeremy St. Lawrence and Josh Brown.

Services will be 12:30 PM, Wednesday, March 09, 2005 at the Stanford Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Hall officiating. 
Burial will take place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military honors by the Caswell Saufley American Legion 
Post # 18. McKnight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nannie Virginia (Pitman) Campbell, 95, Walnut Grove Community passed away Tuesday December 18, 2001 at 
Britthaven Nursing Home.

She was born May 13, 1906 the daughter of the late John Thomas Pitman and Viola (McClure) Pitman. She was a 
homemaker and a member of the Walnut Grove Church of Christ.

Survivors include five nephews; John W. Pitman, Winston Salem, NC, Charles Pitman Bloomington, IN, Vernon Junior 
Pitman Bloomington, IN, James Pitman and Glenn Pitman both of Somerset: six nieces; Bea Hood of Shelborn IN, Mae 
Koonz of Bloomington IN, Lorene Pitman and Virginia Graves both of Paris KY, Marie Reynolds and Ruby Taylor both 
of Somerset; one sister-in-law Lizzie Pitman of Somerset.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Thomas and Viola (McClure) Pitman, her husband Logan Frank Campbell; 
two brothers Beasil V. Pitman and Earl J. Pitman; one niece Marie Corns.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday December 21, 2001 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, with Bro. 
Marvin Cromer officiating. Burial will be in the

Aug. 13, 1932, in Letcher County, he was the son of the late George M. and Dora A. Fields Caudill. He was a carpenter,

Caudill of Blackey, John Caudill of Ezel, and Ruben Caudill of Dayton, Ohio; and three sisters, Julia Powers of Kings Mountain, 
Rebexie Benton of Waynesburg and Ellen I. Bishop of Key Stone Heights, Fla. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Barnett & 
Demrow Funeral Home by Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in Leach Cemetery.

WAYNESBURG - Judy Caudill, 61, of Waynesburg, died Monday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center 
in Lexington.

Born Feb. 7, 1944, in Hamilton, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Jayne Flora Blanton. She was a foster 
parent since 1975 and has cared for hundreds of children. She was a member of World Wide Church of God and attended 
Double Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, David Caudill; a son, Marty Sparks of Waynesburg; four daughters, Rita G. Wash of Hustonville, 
Carolyn Buscher of Eubank, Elizabeth Caudill and Cheyenne Spurgeon, both of Waynesburg; three brothers, Ralph Blanton of 
Waynesburg, Richard Blanton of Crab Orchard and Terry Blanton of Stanford; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Double Springs Baptist Church by Mark King and Ken Hall. Burial will be in Double Springs 
Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Buscher, Aaron, Matthew and Samuel Sims, Chuck Buscher and Mike Wash.

  Ms. Brilla Rose Clements, age 50 of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, Sep. 19 at the Rockcastle Hospital. She was born in Stanford, KY on December 10, 1954. She was a former housekeeper at the Rockcastle Hospital and was a member of the First Christian Church of Mt. Vernon.  

She is survived by her mother, Christine Morris of Mt. Vernon; and her aunt and uncle, Allene and Earl Mize of Mt. Vernon. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clifton Mize; and a sister, Betty Jo DeZarn.

MORELAND - Edith Rebecca Cochran Coffman, 79, of Louisville, died Thursday, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born Nov. 2, 1926, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late George and Bessie Cochran. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Duell Coffman.

Survivors include one son, Robert D. Coffman Jr. of Burke, Va.; seven brothers; Hollis and Lowell Cochran, both of Mooresville, Ind., Paul Cochran of Stanford, Donald Lee and Marvin Cochran, both of Liberty, and Garland and Charlie Cochran, both of Bradfordsville; three sisters, Cleo Coffman of Louisville, and Bernice Lutrell and Carol Anderson, both of Illinois; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

STANFORD - Mary Ann Daly, 67, of Indiana, died Oct. 14 at West Central Community Hospital in Rockville, Ind.

Born July 27, 1938, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late W.D. and Maude McGuffey Mullins. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Moriah Christian Church.

Survivors include her companion, Edward Daly of Indiana; two daughters, Candice Wooten of Columbia, and Kimberly Griffith of LaPorte, Ind.; two brothers, Hobert Mullins and Bill Mullins, both of Stanford; two sisters, Doris Sparks of Stanford and Hazel Brown of Danville; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Mullins.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home by Rob Cox. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

WAYNESBURG - Serenity Paige Davis, 3-month-old daughter of John and Ella Haney Davis of Pine Knot, died Sunday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. She was born Nov. 6, 2003, in Somerset.

Other survivors include two brothers, Jonathan Tyler Davis and Seth Ryan Davis, both of Pine Knot; grandparents, Kathleen and Doyle Davis Jr. of Stanford, Carl Bess of Pine Knot and Arleen Bess of Bellevue; great-grandparents, Pauline and Doyle Davis Sr. of Stanford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by the Rev. Max Hester. Burial will be in Gooch Cemetery.

STANFORD - Services for Jasper Charlie Denney, 44, of Neals Creek Road, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. John Spears.

Burial will be in the Denney family cemetery on Neals Creek Road. He died Monday in Wiggins, Miss.

Born March 6, 1961, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Jasper T. and Mabel Broughton Denney.

He was a mobile home transporter.

Russell H. Dunaway, 72, of Edgewood Drive, Stanford, died Monday, April 17, 2000 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.

Born February 3, 1928 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late William J. Dunaway and Allean Boone Dunaway.

He was a former meat cutter and a Church of Christ minister and a member of the Lexington Avenue Church of Christ in Danville.

He was a member of the DAV, American Legion and was a navy veteran of World War II and an army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include: his wife, Nancy Middleton Dunaway, Stanford; two sons, Russell (Patricia) Dunaway Jr., Blue Ash, OH; Billy (Ann Robin) Dunaway, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Katherine Ann Dunaway, Erlanger; three sisters, Lilly Gooch, Stanford, Margaret Grider, Junction City, and Doris Bottom Danville; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Dunaway, and a sister, Marie Potts.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford, with Steve Wolfgang and Scott Vifquin officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

She died Tuesday at her home.

Born Dec. 10, 1921, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Perry and Maudie Bell Baugh Denham. She was retired from Corning Glass and a member of West End Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Helm of Perryville; two sons, Dr. Donald L. Durham of Mississippi and Michael L. Durham of Texas; two brothers, Robert Denham of Stanford and Fred Durham of Virginia; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

George Dye, 82, of Marion, OH., died Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the Marion General Hospital in Ohio.

Dye was the son of the late Maggie (Burke) Dye and Ples Dye. He was a WWII Army veteran, owner/operator of George Dye’s Trucking and Garage from which he retired, and a member of Richmond Road Church of Christ.

He was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Jacob.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Siler Dye; four children, Betty (Cliff) Evans, David (Taunda) Dye, Ples (Sandy) Dye, and Dale (Lorie) Dye; five grandchildren, Jay (Cindy) Wood, Jamie (Jennifer) Wood, Jeremy (Jen) Wood, Farrah Dye and Diana Dye; and seven great grandchildren, Emily, Kambria, Kayla, Kyle, Myra, and Lucas.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Richmond Road Church of Christ with Russell Howard officiating. MORELAND - James Walton Elkins, 84, of Lancaster, died Monday at his home.

Born Sept. 7, 1921, in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Arthur and Dorothy Reece Elkins. He was retired from Corning Glass in Danville and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Stanford Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and the widower of Geneva Cobbum Elkins.

Survivors include three sons, Steven Elkins of Georgetown, Larry Elkins of Lancaster and Danny Elkins of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Rebecca Goins and Beverly Arnett, both of Lexington, Bonnie Kleckner of Danville and Donna Tuttle of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Curtis Elkins of Waynesburg, Arthur Elkins Jr. of Michigan, and Kenneth Elkins of Florida; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Glenn M. Farmer, 71, of Hwy. 643, Waynesburg died Monday, Sept. 26 at the Thompson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

A native of Lincoln Co., he was born Oct. 10, 1933 to the late Alfred “Whizzer” and Lynette Hurst Farmer. He was a former employee of National Casket Company in Lancaster and Matsushita Appliance Corporation, member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, and widower of Martha Oakes Hayes Farmer.

Survivors include a daughter, Jimmie Dean Hayes of Waynesburg; and one brother, Ray Farmer of Munsie, IN.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, Sept. 29) at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church with Revs: Dan Gutenson and Johnny Thompson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.

Lovell Fields, 78, of Louisville, died Tuesday, Nov. 1 at his home.

Fields was born Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1926 to the late Jim & Jane Mullins Fields. He was a former meat packer and a World War II Army veteran.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers Ralph, Raymond, and Denver Fields; and four sisters, Eunice Sturgill, Minnie Hawkins, Nannie Caudill, and Vadie Caudill.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Mae Ross Fields; one son, Terry Fields of Louisville; one daughter, Margarget Dunsmore of Louisville; two sisters, Ruby Prater of Dayton, OH, and Eunie Holbrook of Whitesburg; Letcher Co. KY, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 3 at Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church. Burial was in Clear Fork Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18.

Josie Marie Atwood Fox, 88, of Neals Creek School Road, Stanford, died Monday, Sept. 26 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Liberty, Casey Co., she was born June 16, 1917 to the late Bill Emerson and Mirty Brown Atwood. She was a homemaker, member of the Stanford Church of the Nazarene, and widow of Willie Leo Fox.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lilburn, Wince and Roscoe Atwood.

Survivors include five sons, Freddie (Sue) Fox, Marshall Fox and Leonard (Sue) Fox all of Stanford, Kenneth (Charity) Fox of Independence, and John William Fox of West Port, IN.; one daughter, Wilma Ann (Lynn) Napier of Hermitage, AR.; two brothers, Lorn Atwood of Crab Orchard and Clyde Atwood of Liberty; one sister, Allie Cochran of Liberty; 15 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren.

Visitation will be tonight (Thursday, Sept. 29) from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at Fox Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Adamson officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

GILMER, Ralph

Ralph Gilmer, 80, died Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Christian Health Center in Louisville.

A native of Lincoln Co., he was born June 18, 1925 to the late Arthur Gilmer Sr. and Ethel McFarlane Gilmer. He attended McKinney and Hustonville Schools graduating in 1942 from Hustonville, was a graduate of Ohio State University with B.A. and M.S. degrees, and a member of the Army Air Corps, serving with the American Red Cross at Johnson Air Force Base in Japan; West Point; Fort Knox; and Korea. In 1953 during the Korean War, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award for outstanding service to front-line troops.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Gilmer, Jr., and Johnny Gilmer of McKinney; five sisters, Jett G. Lutes of Dayton, OH., Eliza Kaye G. Reichenbach of Springfield, Bonnie G. Williams of McKinney, Marie G. Wright of Louisville, and Gladys G. Roberts of Springfield, VA.; and one niece.

Survivors include two sisters, Anne Gilmer Waters of Dayton, OH. and Sybil Gilmer Allin of Huntington, WV.; seven nephews; and seven nieces.

Mr. Gilmer elected to donate his body upon his death to the University of Louisville Medical School to further Parkinson’s disease research.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date for friends and family to pay tribute to his life.

Survivors include two sisters, Donna Faye Russell of Stanford and Ethel Bolin of Nicholasville; and a brother, E.J. Bolin of Lexington.

Born July 17, 1936, in Casey County, she was the daughter of Icie Cox Awood of Liberty and the late Omer Atwood. She was a retired factory worker and a member of Maxey's Valley First Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband James Alvin "Pete" Griffin.

Additional survivors also include a daughter, Shelia Turpin of Danville; two sisters, Gail Shouse and Charlotte Clements, both of Liberty; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Brandon Lee Grubbs, 18, of Danville, died Saturday, September 6, 2003 in Garrard County. 

Born October 19, 1984 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Tammy Cheatham Grubbs of   Harrodsburg.

He was a drywaller, enjoyed music, fishing, and being with his friends. He had attended the Southside Christian Church.

Born Nov. 11, 1923, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late William and Ethel Gaddis McCowan. He was a builder, an antique dealer and a World War II Air Force veteran. He helped build and develop the Hanging Fork Prayer Chapel on Stanford Road.

Survivors include his wife, Nan Rousey McCowan; a son, Randall McCowan of Lexington; a brother, Harold McCowan of Junction City; and a sister, Bessie Wilder of Stanford.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Bettie Salyers Meeks, 88, of Ky Hwy. 501, Waynesburg, died Friday, Sept. 23 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Casey Co., she was born Oct. 2, 1916 to the late Luther Salyers and Mary Jane Floyd Salyers. She was a homemaker, caregiver, attended Mt. Olive Christian Church and the Redemption Road Church, and was the widow of John A. Meeks.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Herman Salyers and two sisters, Estie Elliott and Myrtle Salyers.

Survivors include one son, Billy Meeks of Florida; one daughter, Betty Jean Robertson of Waynesburg; four brothers, Norman Salyers of Somerset, Clifford Salyers of Kentucky, Jessie Salyers of Liberty, and Vernon Salyers of Middleburg; four sisters, Martha Robertson and Elizabeth Carrier both of Waynesburg, Bertha Fight of Ohio, and Clythia Godbey of Mt. Olive; four grandchildren, Barbara Welch, Sandy Ford, Brent Meeks, and Penny Hurst; seven great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 26 at the Morris and Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill with Bro. Gary Yocom officiating. Burial was in Dunham Cemetery in Waynesburg.

Born Nov. 11, 1940, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Herbert and Ruth May Montgomery. He was a retired employee of Matsushita Appliance Corp. and a member of Mount Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Merle Lucas Montgomery; two sons, Mark Montgomery of Danville and Marty Montgomery of Mount Salem; a sister, Mildred Davis of Lancaster; four brothers, R.C. Montgomery of Junction City, Charles Montgomery of Danville, Edward Montgomery of Lancaster and Donnie Montgomery of Mount Washington; and a grandson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Travis Farris and Kyle Young. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Ann Reid O'Malley - 86, of South Third Street, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 3, 1917, in Hustonville, she was the daughter of the late Leslie McMurtry Reid Sr. and Marian Clarice Purdom Reid.

 She was an elementary school teacher at Kentucky School for the Deaf and retired as the supervising teacher. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, a 1935 graduate of Danville High School, a 1939 graduate of Centre College, and earned a degree in deaf studies from Gallaudet University. Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Crowder of Little Rock, Ark.; two sons, Stephen O'Malley of Chicago, Ill., and Brian O'Malley of Danville; and four grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home by the Revs.: Quentin Scholtz and Don Benningfield. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Born Aug. 27, 1916, in St. Mary's County, Md., he was a son of the late Moses and Gertrude Wathan Owens.

He was a retired county employee, having worked in Prince George County, Md., and attended Neal's Creek Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Beagle Owens.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Buckner Owens; two sons, Robert Owens of St. Mary's, and Leslie Owens of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a daughter, Ruth May Pyles of Prince George County; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Fox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd Padgett, Jr., 75, of Ike Singleton Road, Waynesburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

A native of Lincoln Co., he was born Aug. 30, 1930 to the late Lloyd Padgett, Sr. and Lula Elizabeth Hall Padgett. He was a retired truck driver for Super Service and member of the Woodstock Baptist Church in Somerset.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Marie Padgett; and two brothers, Russell and Walter Padgett.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Hardison Padgett; two sisters, Maxine (James) Hoseclaw and Juanita (William) Jones both of Waynesburg; three brothers, Howard Padgett of Lyerly, GA., Robert Marshall (Leota) Padgett of Waynesburg, and Lester (Veda) Padgett of Stanford; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Morris and Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill with Bro. John McPheron officiating. Burial was in Double Springs Cemetery, Waynesburg.

Survivors include his wife, Aleene Polston; a daughter, Lydia Yocum of McKinney; two sisters, Mattie Kidd of Stanford and Hattie Floyd of Danville.

MORELAND - Services for Dennis John Rachford, 57, of Stanford, were today at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Travis Farris. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.

He died Wednesday, Oct 19, 2005 at his home.

A native of Cincinnati, OH., he was born Nov. 18, 1947 to Sue Dunn Rachford Cooper of Hustonville and the late Charles John Rachford. He was a graduate of Morehead State University, a retired music teacher and band director at several school systems including Lincoln County High School, a long-time member of the Advocate Brass Band for which he played first clarinet, and a beekeeper, gardener and photographer.

Other survivors include two daughters, Amber Rachford Ripandelli of Orlando, FL., and Erin Rachford Wright of Lexington; and a sister, Janis First of Dunedin, FL.

He died Thursday. Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ruth Moore Sallee. He was a retired farmer, worked at Cowden Manufacturing Co. and owned an electronics repair shop. He was a member and deacon emeritus of Stanford Christian Church, an Army veteran, and a member of the color guard of American Legion Post 18.

Survivors include his wife, Lyda Broaddus Sallee; two daughters, Rita Faulkner of Stanford and Linda Sallee of Lancaster; a brother, Lloyd Sallee of Richmond; two sisters, Ann Masters of Richmond and Emalene Pratt of Middleport, Ohio; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Betty Bernice Chapman Schnieders, 77, of Cincinnati, formerly of Lincoln County, died Thursday, August 25 in Cincinnati.

A native of the Mt. Salem community of Lincoln Co., she was born Feb. 27, 1928, to the late Fred G. and Mary Elizabeth Holt Chapman.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Chapman and Myrtle Rose Chapman Thompson, and two brothers, George L. and Edward Chapman.

Survivors include her husband, John Bernard Schnieders of Cincinnati; two sons, John and Joseph Schnieders, both of Cincinnati; two sisters, Bonnie Chapman Cull of Fairfield, OH, and Jean Chapman Kidd of Cincinnati, OH; and a granddaughter, Susannah Meyer Schnieders Fowees.

Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati. Funeral services were provided by Radel Funeral Service.

He died Monday at Casey County Hospital.

Born April 11, 1915, he was the son of the late Bud and Minnie Sears. He was a retired farmer and former owner and operator of Sears Grocery. He was the widower of Lydia Followell Sears.

Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Sears Helm of Casey County; a brother, Robert Sears of Casey County; four sisters, Ruby Compton of Liberty, Wanda Sears of Stanford, Edith Cox of Lebanon and Lillie Followell of Franklin, Ind.; a special friend, Donna Cross of Somerset; and three grandchildren.

Thelmar Sims, 92, Gourley Road passed away Wednesday, November 19th, 2003 at his residence. He was born October 15th, 1911 in Lincoln County, Kentucky, a son of the late Boney Sims and Lucy (Stevens) Sims. He was a United States Army Veteran, a carpenter and a member, Sunday school teacher and Deacon at Pond Missionary Baptist Church, Kings Mt., Kentucky.

  He is survived by one son; Delmer Sims, Kings, Mt., Kentucky: six daughters; Opal Hatter, Liberty, Kentucky, Ova Padgett, Waynesburg, Kentucky, Oca Hatter, Kings Mt., Kentucky, Ona Jones, Waynesburg, Kentucky, Oma Black, Taylorsville, Kentucky, Ora Caudill, Louisville, Kentucky: two brothers: Wallace Sims, Kings Mt., Kentucky and Odie Sims, Kings Mt., Kentucky: one sisters; Edith Caudill, Kings Mt., Kentucky: 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 25 great great grandchildren. He also had one great great great grandchild. Thelmar was grandpa to all little children. They all called him grandpa.

  He was preceded in death by his wife; Eula Katherine (Shea) Sims, who passed away December 26th, 1999: one son; Gelmer Sims: 4 brother; Delbert, Oran, Alvie and Arnold: 3 sisters; Ester, Etheleen and Elsie. Funeral services will be 11:00 a. m., at the Chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral home with Brother Doug Sanders and Brother Johnny Friend officiating.  She was born February 20, 1922 in Lincoln County, Kentucky to the late Tom and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Cain Naylor. She was a member of the Preachersville United Methodist Church and a member of the Womens Missionary Union. She was a former employee of Palm Beach Clothing Company.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Smith of Preachersville, KY., A son, Gerald (Elizabeth Denny) Smith of Preachersville, KY.; 2 grandchildres and 5 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Tom and Lizzie Cain Naylor and her three Brothers, Bill, Marion & Leo Naylor

Survivors include three sons, Rick Sowder and Kenny Sowder, both of Crab Orchard, and Mike Sowder of Versailles; a daughter, Sandy Smith of Danville; a brother, Edward Sowder Jr. of Brodhead; four sisters, Francis Humphress of Alexandria, Hazel Smith of Depauw, Ind., Helen Lunsford of Cincinnati, and Faye Gullett of Shepherdsville; four brothers, Ronnie Sowder of Shelbyville, David Sowder of Mount Vernon, Mark Sowder of Crab Orchard and Chris Sowder of Brodhead; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James R. Sowder.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at McKnight Funeral Home by Clyde Lunsford and David Smith. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shaun Pendergraft, Jason, Josh, Jon, Matt and Andrew Sowder.

TILLETT, Pearlea VonLinger

Mrs. Pearlea VonLinger Tillett, age 90 of Crab Orchard, KY., died Monday, November 7, 2005 at the Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, KY.

She was the widow of William Shirley Tillett who preceded her in death on February 23, 1996. She was born November 12, 1914 in Russell Co. Ky, to the late James S. and Caroline Black Vonlinger. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include; 6 children; William S. Tillette, Jr. of Guatamala, Caroline Collins of Crab Orchard, Hurston R. Tillett, Sr. of Nolan KY, Mary Louise Murray of Brooks, KY., Dewey V. Tillett of Crab Orchard and Phillip O. Tillett, Sr. of Crab Orchard. Also survivied by one sister, Louise Walls of Danville, KY., 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

 Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Ray and James Tillett, two grandsons, Robert Allen Banta and Mack Tillett, one great grandson Tyler Banta.

  Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

 Services will be 11 A.M., Thursday, November 10, 2005, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Ernest Martin. Burial will be at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.

TODD, Hershel L.

Hershel L. Todd, 62, of Versailles, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the St. Joseph Hospice Care Center, Lexington.

Born Aug. 16, 1943, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Herbert Austin and Ada Denney Todd. He was an electrician for the state government, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Georgetown Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sisters, Ethel Snelling, Ohio, Thelma Braden, Ohio, and Bonnie Owens, Versailles; and two brothers, Clinton Todd, Ohio, and Arvest Todd, Versailles.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill by Minister Joe Hill. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Arvest Todd, Ken Owens, Clinton Todd, Harold Todd, Shelby Todd, and Ronnie Todd.

CRAB ORCHARD - Zella Denney Harris Underwood, 88, of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday.

Born Feb. 5, 1917, in Mount Vernon, she was a daughter of the late William D. and Lee Oma Mae Robbins Denney. She was a member of Providence Church of Christ and the widow of Roy D. Underwood.

Survivors include a son, Johnny A. Harris of Crab Orchard; a stepson, Bill Underwood of Morristown, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Shelly Hues of Morristown, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at McKnight Funeral Home by Thad Eubank. Burial will be in Fairview Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bo Underwood, Russell Abney, J.R. Harris and Bobby Woodall.

UPCHURCH, Isabell Rice

Isabell Upchurch, 61, of West Alexandria, OH, died Friday, March 24, at Fort Hamilton-Hughes Hospital in Hamilton.

Born May 18, 1938, in Crab Orchard, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Eva (Hendrickson) Rice. She attended the Pillar of Praise Church in West Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cullen D. Upchurch, in 1991; and a sister, Elizabeth Bullins.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tracey and Julie Upchurch of West Alexandria; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Clifford Hodge of Hamilton, Angela and John Collins of West Alexandria; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are five sisters, Peggy Withers of Hamilton, Loretha Napier of Batavia, Verdie Hilton, Mary VanHook and Joyce Helton, all of Michigan; and four brothers, William and Eugene Rice, both of Kentucky, Jasper and Franklin Rice, both of Michigan.

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 28, at the Pentecostal Highway Holiness Church, Hamilton, with the Rev. L.L. Collins officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

MORELAND Helen Watts, 70, of Maxeys Valley, died Wednesday in Junction City.

Born Sept. 15, 1935, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Finley and Lottie Maddox Griffin. She was a homemaker and a member of Maxeys Valley First Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Watts; two sons, Wayne Watts of Junction City and Mike Watts of Maxeys Valley; a brother, Franklin Griffin of Maxeys Valley; two half-brothers, Tommy and Virgil Griffin, both of Maxeys Valley; a sister, Laura Crowe of Maxeys Valley; and a grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Norris McCawley. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Vaught, Mike Lively, Dennis Lobb, Timmy Martin, Danny Smith and Tommy Smith.

WHEELER, George Roy

George Roy Wheeler, 49 of Hustonville, died Tuesday, Oct. 18 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

A native of Logansport, IN, he was born Jan. 17, 1956 to the late Glen Douglas Wheeler. He was a carpenter.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Reed of Bradfordsville; one daughter: Katrina Wheeler; one son, Anthony Miller of McKinney; one brother: Curtis Wheeler of Bradfordsville; four sisters: Wilma Wheeler of Bradfordsville; Pat Huffard of Lafayette, IN; Tonnia Redding of Flora, IN., and Kimberly Walker of Logansport, IN; three grandchildren; two uncles; five aunts; and one great aunt.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 21 at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland with Bro. David Fralix officiating. Burial was in Mays Cemetery.

Dakota Whitenack, four days, daughter of Charles Anthony and Tracey Louise Logan Whitenack, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: her maternal grandmother, Ada Logan of Harrodsburg; her maternal grandfather, John Logan of Harlan; her maternal great-grandmothers, Jean Perkins of Harrodsburg and Thelma Logan of Harlan; her paternal grandmother, Mary W. Baker of Harrodsburg, and her paternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Abt of Lincoln County.

The funeral was held Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Derek Baker officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

STANFORD - Services for William H. Wilder, 74, of Old Ottenheim Road, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion. He died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital.

WILLIAMS, Elizabeth Goodpaster                                    d. 14 Feb 2001

Elizabeth Goodpaster Williams, 93, of Lexington, formerly of Versailles, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the Darby Square Nursing Center, Lexington.

She was born in Lincoln County on Feb. 10, 1908, the daughter of the late Elza Thomas and Erma Ray Goodpaster. She was a former employee of the Barrett and Son shirt factory in Versailles and was a member of the Versailles First Christian Church. Ms. Williams was also a former worthy grand matron of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by a son, Ronald E. Williams, Lexington; two sisters, Bea Riestenberg, Florida, and Nora Barker, Versailles; two grandchildren, Ginger Deloye and Sharon Beth Bertman; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers and three sisters are deceased.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel, Versailles, by the Rev. John Weaver. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery. Casket bearers were Frank Barker, Clarence Thomas Goodpaster, Willie B. Horn, Harold Wallace, Harvey Watts, and James Lloyd Tewmey.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Daryl Hodge. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
