CRAB ORCHARD - James Milton Adams, 71, of Hwy. 618, died Thursday at Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington.

Born March 19, 1933, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Elmer and Isabelle Gibbons Adams. He was the widower of Janet Fay Brummett Adams He was a retired employee of National Casket Factory and Tecumseh of Somerset. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Bryant of Brodhead; two sons, Roger and Kenny Adams, both of Crab Orchard; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services are 2 p.m. today at McKnight Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tom, Everett, Charles, Wendell and Tommy Adams and Cecil Gibbons.

LANCASTER - Marilyn Baker, 67, Fall Lick Road, died Wednesday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 7, 1928, in Leslie County, she was a daughter of Rebecca Day Joseph of Lancaster and the late Mitchell Joseph. She was a homemaker and a member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church.

Other survivors include her husband, Clarence Baker; two daughters, Carolyn Craig of Danville and Virginia Baker of Lancaster; a son, Daniel Baker, Lancaster, and Johnny Isaacs, Lancaster, whom she thought of as a son; four brothers, Willie Joseph, John Joseph, and Mitchell Joseph Jr., all of Lancaster, and Harold Joseph, Louisville; three sisters, Ruth Warmouth, Rhoda Hacker and Martha Boggs, all of Lancaster; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ramsey Funeral Home by Hunt Miller and the Rev. Andy Baker. Pallbearers will be James D. MORELAND - Elgin H. Baughman, 83, of Athens, Ala., died Friday at Huntsville Hospital.

Born in Water Valley, Miss., she was the daughter of the late James D. and Mildred Walker.

She was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and worked in the engineering office of the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Survivors include her husband, John H. Baughman; a daughter, Ann B. Porter of Rogersville, Ala.; a son, Jimmy Baughmann
of Marietta, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hustonville Cemetery by the Rev. Don Burton.

MORELAND - Margaret Ann Baughman, 80, of Hustonville, died Thursday at her home.

Born July 17, 1923, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Hettie Floyd Baughman. She was retired from
the University of New York at Oneonta where she served as associate dean of students. She was a member of Hustonville
Christian Church and received her undergraduate degree from Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga., and her master's from Indiana University.

Survivors include two brothers, Sam H. Baughman of Hustonville and John H. Baughman of Athens, Ala.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Revs. Betsy Smith and Don Burton. Burial will be in
Hustonville Cemetery.

Born Feb. 18, 1906, in Marion County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Brown. She was a homemaker and
the widow of Kelly Beldon.

Born Aug. 30, 1905, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Florida Stapp Allen. She was a homemaker, a member of Hustonville Christian Church for more than 60 years, and a member of Christian Woman's Fellowship. She was the widow of Stanley "Jack" Burris.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Wesley of Liberty and Lorene Maupin of Campbellsville; a son, Bennie Burris of Hustonville; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; eight great-grandchildren; a step great-grandson; and two great-great-granddaughters.

CRAB ORCHARD - Sophia Day Coots, 83, of Crab Orchard, died Saturday at her home.

Born April 14, 1922, in Leslie County, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Melinda Lewis. She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Bige Coots.

Survivors include three sons, Homer Coots of Danville, Michael Coots of Dayton, Ohio, and *Pat Coots of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Jackie Brock of Villa Rica, Ga., and *Hazel Saylor of Crab Orchard; four brothers, Lloyd Day of Xenia, Ohio, Dexter and Paul Day, both of Hyden, and Ernest Day of Lancaster; three sisters, Myrtle Fouts and Annie Hensley, both of Hyden, and Lillian Joseph of Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bige Coots Jr.

He died Tuesday at Charleston Health Care Center. Born Aug. 16, 1907, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Leslie and Kizzie Goode Coppage. He was a farmer and a member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church. He was the widower of Myrtie Downey Coppage.
Survivors are a son, Edwin "Buddy" Coppage, Liberty; four daughters, Alta Reid of Hustonville, Frances Porter of Charlestown, Ind., Anna Vanoy of Frankfort and Zetta Vaught of Lexington; a sister, Christine Downey, Princeton; 34 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Born March 6, 1923, in Ellisburg, she was the daughter of the late Winfield S. and Lilly Ann Purdom Allen. She was a teacher in an Ellisburg one-room school and a homemaker, and a member of Ellisburg United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Forkland High School and Lindsey Wilson College, and attended University of Kentucky. She was the widow of Merrill Cox .

Marie Wilson Crank, 84, of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.

A native of Lincoln Co., she was born Dec. 16, 1921 to the late Ashford and Flora Alice Denny Wilson. She was a member of
Beech Grove Baptist Church and the widow of Homer Crank.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Russell Dowell; three grandchildren, Connie Simpson, Ricky Wayne Dowell, and
James Ray Price, Jr.; three brothers, Manford, Willie, and Charles Evan Wilson; and one sister, Vernell Brock.

Survivors include two sons, Homer Douglas (Ina) Crank of Lancaster and Manford Harold (Ann) Crank of Crab Orchard; four
daughters, Edith Yvonne (James) Price, Dianna Mae Simpson, Eva Carolyn Dowell, and Deborah Lynn (Sherrill) Sims all of Crab
Orchard; one sister, Eva Volecker of San Antonio, TX.; two brothers, Edward Wilson and Joe Wilson both of Milton, OH.; 12

STANFORD - James Rice Crawford, 70, of Whitley Avenue, died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born May 3, 1934, in Lincoln County, he was the son of James T. and Josephine Rice Crawford. He was a retired water plant
operator with Stanford Water Works and served in the National Guard during the Korean War. He was a member of Pine Grove
Church of Christ and Masonic Lodge 631, McKinney. He was the husband of Fannie E. Johnson Crawford.

Additional survivors include two sons, James T. Crawford of Danville and Prentice C. Crawford of Stanford; three brothers, Robert
Crawford of Garrard County, Sammy Crawford of Madisonville, and Danny Crawford of Lexington; a sister, June Long of Garrard
County; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Elmer Crowe. She was a homemaker and a member of First Church of God, Hustonville.
Survivors include two sons, Elmer and Henry Crowe, both of Junction City; a daughter, Edith Carrier of Hustonville; 25 grandchildren;
46 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Bonnie League, Laura Gifford and Ruby Curtis.

Centre College administration office and had worked for the college for 20 years. She also was a member of Latonia Christian Church.

Roxie Padgett Gastineau, 68, Burdine Street, Somerset, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, January 27th, 2004 at her residence.
She was born March 12th, 1935 in Waynesburg, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Vernie Padgett and Ruth Jacobs Padgett.

She was a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter; Pamela Gastineau, Somerset, Kentucky: for brothers; Elgie Padgett,

Born Oct. 3, 1919, in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Letha Johnson Gooch. He was a retired farmer, a
World War II veteran, a Purple Heart recipient and member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Addington Gooch; two sons, Kenneth Gooch Sr. of Kings Mountain and Dean Gooch of
Danville; a daughter, Sandra Powers of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two step grandchildren;
seven step-great grandchildren; and six step-great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vida J. Gooch.

Born Aug. 6, 1943, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late William P. and Dessie L. Miracle Robbins.

Church in Leslie County and attended Watts Chapel Baptist Church. She was a retired teacher in Leslie County.

WAYNESBURG - Larry Denton Horton, 53, of Choctaw Drive, died Thursday in Lexington.

Born April 5, 1950, in Stanford, he was the son of the late Earl D. and Artie Mae Wright Horton.

He was a minister with Geneva Baptist Church and formerly with Indian Creek Baptist Church in Casey County.

He was former operator of Horton's Grocery and was a bus driver with the Lincoln County school system.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Rector Horton; two daughters, Chelsea L. Horton of Stanford and Artie Ruth Horton Cook of Fayetteville, N.C.; a brother, Gary Horton of Danville; three sisters, Bonnie Caldwell and Joanne Cornett, both of Danville, and Betty Lou Singleton of Lancaster.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant View Baptist Church by the Revs. Vola Brown, Bill Rhodus and Ben Curtis. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

Born Feb. 9, 1917, in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Armilda Rice Hendrickson. She was the widow of
Jake Hunley.

Survivors include two daughters, Norene Wilson and Vicki Black, both of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.

A native of Lincoln Co., he was born Tuesday, March 4, 1947 to the late Earl D. Hutchison and Louise Pendigraph Hutchison of
Highland. He was a truck driver for Core-Trans in Somerset, a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the
Highland Methodist Church.

Survivors include his fiance, Gayle Good of Eubank; two sons, Joseph Van Hutchison of Highland and Noah Todd Hutchison of
Ocala, FL.; one daughter, Dana Pyles of White Plains; one brother, Don Lee Hutchison of Danville; one sister, Linda (Terry)
Kimberlin of Louisville; and four grandchildren.

Born in Moreland, he served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of Moreland United Methodist Church. He worked at General Electric Corp. in Louisville, and owned several businesses, including Lincoln Inn in Moreland, Johnson's Grocery in Milledgeville, Johnson's Texaco in Shelby City and K&B Wheel Alignment in Junction City.He also was a former employee of Whirlpool Appliance Corp. and a Junction City Council member.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Phillips Johnson; a daughter, Teresa Lyons of Danville; a son, Eddie Johnson of Danville; and four grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley K. Hale and Edna V. Kloppenburg, both of Preachersville, and Retha D. Higgs of Lexington; six sons, Ollie E. Lane and Jack N. He was former owner and manager of Gulf Service Station and Lynn Hardware, Hustonville. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 184, attended the Baptist church, and was Hustonville fire chief for 40 years.

NICHOLASVILLE - Louise Jones McBrayer, 69, of Shun Road, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Born Jan. 9, 1927, in Casey County, she was a daughter of Sallie Marshall Bertram and the late George Bertram Sr. She was a member of Brookside Baptist Church.
Additional survivors include her husband, Herbert McBrayer; three daughters, Sally Jones Hale and Karen Jones Kleczkowski, both of Danville, and Imogene Jones Goodlett of Nicholasville; two sisters, Jo Benton of Nicholasville and Martha Dean of Stanford; two brothers, George Bertram Jr. of Stanford and Ray Bertram of London, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Cleve Jones.

A native of Barbourville in Knox Co., he was born Nov. 7, 1925 to the late James Preston Melton, Sr. and Katherine Malinda Green Melton. He grew up in Lynch in Harlan Co., was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church in Frankfort, and entered the Army in 1943 serving in both the European and Mediterranean Theaters during which time he was awarded two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, and the Victory Medal. Following his military service, he completed his education and then went on to teach business education, serve as an elementary principal in the Lincoln County Schools, teach in Harlan Co., and become superintendent of the Bourbon County Schools. He joined the Department of Education as Director of Statistical Services, was appointed Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Finance, served as a public school finance consultant for the Department of Education and the Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee and Mississippi Departments of Education, on the National Educational Finance Project and the Governor’s Task Force on Educational Finance, and became Executive Director of the Staten School Board Association where he served until his retirement.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lisabeth Suzanne Melton; one son, David Stephen Melton; one sister, Betty Jo Coldiron of Cumberland; and one great granddaughter, Alaina Ann Hamilton.

Survivors include his wife, Eldred W. Melton; one son, James Preston (Pamela) Melton, III of Frankfort; one daughter, Sarah Ann (Gerald) Hamilton of Mason, OH.; one brother, Robert T. (Pat) Melton of Lexington; grandsons, James Preston (Leann) Melton IV of Fort Lewis, WA., and Matthew Melton of Frankfort; granddaughters, Haley E. and Holly E. She was a homemaker, a member of Stanford Baptist Church and a past member of Harrodsburg Order of Eastern Star 309. She was a 1969 graduate of Harrodsburg High School. She also was chairwoman of the Lincoln County Fair Horse Show, a member of Kentucky Walking Horse Association ladies auxiliary and has owned and exhibited world and international grand champion horses. She was the widow of Ronal Sharp.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy E. Davis of Liberty; two stepdaughters, Judy Burton and Mary Beth Sharp, both of Stanford; a stepson, Ronnie Sharp of Stanford; two sisters, Joyce Sanders of Harrodsburg and Janice Johnson of Louisville; and four step grandchildren.

Born May 9, 1937, in Campbellsville, he was the son of the late Samuel G. and Mary Lee Rice Smith. He was a health care consultant and former president and CEO of Ephraim McDowell Health.

In 2000, Smith was named Citizen of the Year by Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce and was a former chairman; and in 2001 he was recognized by the Kentucky Hospital Association with the Distinguished Service award.

Smith was past president of Danville Rotary Club and deacon chairman at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church, Danville. He sat on boards
at Campbellsville University and St. Catharine College. He was a board member of the Louisville branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of
St. Louis.He was a former board member of Ephraim McDowell Health, Ephraim Resource, Ephraim HealthCare Foundation, Central
Kentucky Cancer Program, Russell County Hospital, Fort Logan Hospital, and A Children's Place.Smith was former chairman of the
Cooperative Care board and the Hospital Technical Advisory Committee of the Kentucky Medical Assistance Program.He was a past
member of the board of directors and the 1991 class of Leadership Kentucky. He was a former assistant professor (volunteer) for
University of Kentucky College of Allied Health and a former board member of Central Kentucky Health Delivery Network.He was a
former member of the Kentucky Hospital Association board and the Kentucky State Legislative Task Force on Complimentary and
Alternative Medicine.He was a past board chairman of Corporate Family Services Inc. and a past member and chairman of
Danville-Boyle County Industrial Council. He was a past member of American Hospital Association, Kentucky Medical Insurance
Co.'s Hospital Advisory Committee, American Telemedicine Association, and National Rural Health Association former president

CRAB ORCHARD - Ruby Mae Hasty Sparkman, 60, of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday at her home.

Born Dec. 28, 1945, in Rockcastle County, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Gertrude Hasty.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene "Red" Sparkman; two brothers, E.J. Hasty of Lancaster and Billy Hasty of Mount Vernon; and three sisters, Ruth Rucker, Joyce and Mary Hasty. No service is planned.

Services for Leona Vandivier Stockton, 96, formerly of Salt River Road, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Bob Bausum. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
She died Tuesday at her home in Lincoln County.

TAPP, Johnetta Moberly d. 25 Apr 1999
GEORGETOWN - Johnetta Moberly Tapp, 65, of Georgetown, died Sunday in Cynthiana.
Born Dec. 26, 1933, in Garrard County, she was a daughter of Bill and Evelyn Foster Moberly of *Stanford. She was a member of White Sulphur Baptist Church and an employee of K Mart.
Other survivors include two sons, Billy Tapp of Millersburg and Charles Tapp of Georgetown; a brother, Billy Moberly of *Stanford; two sisters, Joyce King of Richmond and Bernice Trailer of *Stanford; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home by the Rev. John Cravens. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.

Born Aug. 27, 1920, in Butler County, Ohio, she was the daughter of Jim Blaine and Martha Anne Vaught Moore. She was a retired Veterans Administration hospital nurse and member of Pleasant Point Baptist Church. She was the widow of Edgar Long and Woodrow Terry.

Survivors include three sons, James Long of Nicholasville, and Kenneth and Randall Long, both of Stanford; two daughters, Dewilla Holtzclaw of Waynesburg and Drucilla Benedict of Kings Mountain; a brother, Remis Moore of Hustonville; three sisters, Alma Anderson, Patricia Hart and Betty Lou Hargis, all of Eubank; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff, Alan, David, Raymie and Steven Long, and Mike Benedict.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery.

Lauton Turpin, 68, of Cream Ridge Road, Danville, died Friday, February 14, 2003 at his residence.

Born September 21, 1934 in Casey County, he was the son of the late George Washington and Della Baxter Turpin.

Survivors include five sisters, Hazel Rogers, Lucille West, and Mildred Reynolds, all of Junction City, Lula Lester, Shelbyville, and Mabel Lechok, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Hubert Turpin and Estell Turpin, both of Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Turpin.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 18, at Stith Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. Buddy Turpin and Rev. Wayne Stevens officiating. Burial was in the Hustonville Cemetery.

Janie Ellen Vanhook, 77, Britthaven Nursing & Rehabilitation, formerly of the Elrod Community passed away Tuesday, November 9^th, 2004 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, Kentucky.

She was born March 27^th, 1927 in Walnut Grove, Kentucky, daughter of the late William Poynter and Losey Mae Debord Poynter. She was a homemaker and a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband; Bennie Clyde Vanhook, whom she married on September 23, 1943 in Somerset, Kentucky: two sons; Hershel David (and Linda) Vanhook, Elrod Community and James Everett (and Twila) Vanhook, Bobtown Community: two daughters; Joyce (and James) Alexander, White Lily Community and Jean (and Robert) Saylor, Goshen, Ohio: two brothers; Dewey and Everett Poynter, both of Somerset, Kentucky: four sisters; Calla Anne Poynter, Greenwood Community, Kathleen Stigall, Somerset, Kentucky, Maggie Brown, West Chester, Ohio and Hazel Head, Somerset, Kentucky: 9 grandchildren; Jessica Cook, Sean Vanhook, Byron Vanhook, Kacey Vanhook, Tracey Wiley, Theresa Kiser, Jamie Cain, Jennifer Wittmeyer, and Janette Peckinpaugh: 8 great grandchildren; Brianna Cook, Mariah Cook, Austin Wiley, Tara Wilburn, Taylor Kiser, Alex Cain, Aislyn Cain and Logan Wittmeyer: one niece; Wanda Holt: one nephew; Bill Vanhook: special friend; Dan Porter.

She was preceded in death by her parents: one brother; Willie David Poynter: one sister; Mary Hudson.

Mattie Mae Wilkerson, 91, of Danville, died Tuesday at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born May 18, 1913, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mattie Penman.

She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church in Stanford. She was the widow of Vonnie Wilkerson.

Survivors include a son, Joe Cecil Masterson of Stanford; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be noon Saturday at Stanford First Baptist Church by the Rev. William H. Ewing. Burial will be in Barrows Hill Cemetery, Stanford.
