Katie P. Sanders

WAYNESBURG -- Katie Proctor Sanders, 98, of Cincinnati, formerly of 
Crab Orchard, died Sunday. 
Born Feb. 28, 1904, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late 
Theard and Cynthia Wilson Proctor. She was a homemaker, a member of 
Bethel Church of Christ, and the widow of Fred F. Sanders.
Survivors include a son, William D. Sanders of Cincinnati; a sister, 
Artie Stevens of Eubank; and a granddaughter. She was preceded in death 
by a son, Gordon Sanders.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Church of Christ in Crab 
Orchard by Gerald Carter. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home 
and 10 a.m. Wednesday until funeral time at the church.
Memorials may go to Vitas Hospice, Cincinnati.

STANFORD -- Jewell Holtclaw Sandidge, 90, of Stone Mountain, Ga., 
formerly of Moreland, died Saturday in Snellville, Ga.
Born Oct. 10, 1911, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late 
John S. and Faye Noland Holtzclaw. 
She was the widow of George R. Sandidge Sr.
Survivors include a son, Jere T. Sandidge of Stone Mountain; a sister, 
Marcella Koppius of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.

WAYNESBURG -- Services for Hurbel Ray Saylor, 69, of Parsons Road will 
be 11 a.m. Friday at Waynesburg Pentecostal Church by the Rev. Billy 
Brown. Burial will be in Elihu Saylor Cemetery, Stanford. 
He died Monday at Fort Logan Hospital. 
Born March 3, 1932, in Harlan County, he was the son of the late Elihu 
and Retha Hopkins Saylor. He was a member of Waynesburg Pentecostal 
Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Elbert Saylor and Ronald Saylor, both 
of Waynesburg, and Robert Saylor of Fort Worth, Texas; and a sister, 
Flossie Manuel of Stanford. 
Visitation will be after 7 p.m. Thursday.
Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

KY., beloved wife of the late LeRoy Schneeman and Lennis Francis, 
devoted mother of Carol (Mike) Schuh of Versailles, OH., John Schneeman 
of Erlanger, KY., Larry (Susan) Schneeman, and the late Jeannine 
Addler. Daughter of the late John and Ida Mae Chappell. Dear sister of 
the late Mary Jane Genton, Ada Hubbard, and Hubert Chappell. Loving 
grandmother of Todd and Scott Addler, Ryan, Reid, Robb, Randy, Karen, 
Becky, John, and Emelie Schneeman, Marc Dilworth, Donald Hamby, and the 
late Christopher M. Schuh. Also survived by ten great-grandchildren. 
Nellie retired from the Fusite Corporation and was a member of the Mt. 
Healthy Chapter OES #365. Sunday, November 4, 2001 at Wayne Hospital,

Survivors include his wife, Clema Davis Shea; a daughter, Jeannie 
Coffman of Richman; a stepson, Dallas Hayes of Cookeville, Tenn.; a 
brother, George Shea Jr. of Waynesburg; and three grandchildren. He was 
preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Stanley Shea.

WHITELAND, Ind. -- Sherman H. Sims, 65, of New Whiteland, Ind., died 
Saturday 11/17/2001 at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood, Ind.
Born April 12, 1936, in Kings Mountain, he was a son of the late Walter 
and Mae Leach Sims.He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Mae 
Patterson Sims.
He retired in 1998 from Richardson Rubber Co. where he had been a 
set-up operator for 28 years. He was a veteran of the Air Force.
Survivors include two daughters, Merlin Shine of Indianapolis and 
Carolyn Sears of Evansville, Ind; a son, Lynn Sims of Greenwood; three 
brothers, Kenneth Sims of Waynesburg, Leonard Sims of Milan, Ind., and 
Keith Sims of Mason, Ohio; four sisters, Izora Ratliff and Gladys 
Carman, both of Kings Mountain, Betty Merrell of Burlington, Ohio, and 
Jean Gooch of Linn, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and three 
great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held today at Locust Grove Baptist Church, Kings 
Mountain. Burial was in K.P. Hall Cemetery.

years for Lincoln County schools and a member of Pond Ridge Baptist 
Church. She was the widow of Joda Smallwood Sr.

daughters, Carrie "Sis" Howard of Somerset, Wanda J. Johnson of London 
and Bonnie Smallwood of Waynesburg; six brothers, Joseph Moore of

STANFORD -- Matt B. "Smitty" Smith, 79, of Stanford died Sunday at Fort 
Logan Hospital.
Born Jan 25, 1923, in Garrard County, he was the son of that late 
William and Myrtle Jones Smith. He was a retired manager of the old 
Begley Drug Store in Stanford. He was a member of Stanford Christian 
Church, a Navy veteran of World War II, and a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Stroud Smith; two daughters, Rose 
A. Smith Southerland of Shelbyville and Mitzi A. Smith Black of 
Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. 
Merry Jones. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery with military rites 
by Caswell Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion.

Earl Morris and Leroy Boone Jr.

Born July 16, 1917, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the 
late Arthur and Ada Frances Stephens Foley. 
She was a retired cook for Waynesburg Elementary School where she 
worked for 22 years, and a member of Order of the Eastern Star and 
Double Springs Baptists Church. 
She was active in the Senior Citizens group and was a former 
volunteer for Waynesburg Area Rescue Squad and Waynesburg Ruritan 
Club. She was the widow of Manuel Smith.
Survivors include a son, Lynnville Smith of Bangkok, Thailand; two 
daughters, Wanda Alford of Midway and Joyce Williams of Lexington; 
a brother, Lilburn Foley of Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren; 
and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Smith, Christopher and Bryson Alford, 
Jonathan and Joshua Williams, and Nicholas Foley.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral 
Home by Brad King. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

Harris. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Smith and a member of the Watts 
Chapel Baptist Church. 

Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Carter of Crab Orchard; three sons, 
Kenneth E. Smith Jr., Ronnie J. Smith and Randy Smith, all of Crab Orchard; 
three brothers, Gobel Harris, Eugene Harris and Jesse Harris, all of Crab

Pearl "Pearlie" Elizabeth Sexton (female) She was born on Tuesday, May 02, 1911, in the Town of 
Betze, Letcher County, Kentucky. She married (1) Benton Sexton on Saturday, August 22, 1925, in 
Vicco, Perry County, Kentucky. She married (2) P. T. "Pokie" Smith on Friday, January 17, 1941, 
in Letcher County, Kentucky. She died on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, in the City of Bradenton, 
Manatee County, Florida. She was buried on ????????? in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in the Town of 
Stanford, Lincoln County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Thomas Sexton and Mary Ann "Polly" 
Stidham. 

When I receive the actual date of her burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, I will contact you 
with the date.

MORELAND -- Wilma Baird Smith, 87, of Mount Salem died Saturday at 
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born May 28, 1914, in Elk Valley, Tenn., she was the daughter of the 
late M.L. and Almeda Gipson Baird. She was a homemaker, an employee of 
Kentucky State Hospital, and retired from Oakwood in Somerset. She was 
a member of Mount Salem Baptist Church and the widow of James Cleo 
Smith. 
Survivors include three sons, Wendell Smith, Larry Smith and Jerry D. 
Smith, all of Mount Salem; a daughter, Sue C. Franklin of Stanford; 12 
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Mike 
Mullins and Tim Cochran. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bruce, Kevin, Keith and Brian Smith, Greg and Shawn

a member of Hustonville Christian Church.She was the widow of Clarence 
Sommer.
Survivors include her sister, Margaret Baughman of Hustonville; two

Hustonville; and nieces and nephews.

James Randall "Randy" Sowder, 44, of Lawrenceburg, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Monday 
evening, May 28, 2001, at Bluegrass Community Hospital, Versailles, after complications from a 
heart ailment.

Born in Lincoln County on Feb. 9, 1957, he was the son of James Franklin Sowder and Jean Farris 
Taylor, both of Crab Orchard. He was a heavy equipment operator for Grubbs Excavating.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three daughters, Heather Robinson, Bryantsville, 
and Krystal Sowder and Sondra Sowder, Versailles; a sister, Sandra Jean Smith, Danville; three 
brothers, Ricky Franklin Sowder and Kenny Ray Sowder, both of Crab Orchard, and David Michael 
Sowder, Versailles, and a granddaughter, Abigail Renee Robinson, Bryantsville.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, May 31, at the McKnight-Martin Funeral Home Chapel, 
Crab Orchard, by the Rev. Billy Gooch. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Crab Orchard. Casket

Kenneth Earl Stevens, 63, of Crab Orchard, formerly of Versailles, husband of Lou Anna Kidd 
Stevens, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at his residence.

A native of Stanford, he was the son of the late Oley D. and Sara Ellen Foley Stevens. He was a 
farmer and a member of Faith Temple of Preachersville.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Kenny Stevens and Wesley Stevens, both of 
Crab Orchard; three daughters, Barbara Sweeney, Martha Day, and Rose Mary Northern, all of Crab

he was the son of the late Carey W. and Maude C. Osborne Thompson. 
He was a farmer and welder and a member of Fairview Church of Christ. 
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and had attained the rank of 
Seaman first class. He received the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-
Pacific Area Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and World War II 
Victory Ribbon.

Crab Orchard - George A Thompson of 904 Pine St, the former mayor of Crab Orchard, died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital in 
Stanford. He was 57. He served the city as mayor from 1979 to 1982, during which time he helped to bring about construction 
of the Crab Orchard Medical Building in 1982. Thompson had also served as city councilman and chairman of both the Crab Orchard 
Medical Board and Lincoln County Senior Citizens. Born Feb 16, 1938, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late 
Herbert and Martha Ella Wren Thompson. Survivors include his wife, Sue M Thompson; one daughter, Janet Gutenson of Crab 
Orchard; two sons, George A Thompson Jr. and Lonnie Mitchell Thompson, both of Crab Orchard; one brother, Franklin Thompson 
of Crab Orchard; and one grandson. Services will be at 11 a.m.Tuesday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home. Burial will be in 
Ottawa Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Pallbearers will be James Manuel, Harold Martin, David Newcomb, Jimmy Howard, 
Elmore Wardlow and Fred Simpson. Visitation is after 6 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. until time of the service Tuesday.

WAYNESBURG -- Morris Edward Thompson, 69, of Oneida, Tenn., died 
Saturday at Scott County Hospital in Oneida.
Born Sept. 18, 1932, in Pine Knot, he was the son of the late John H. 
and Dora Murphy Thompson. He attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in 
Oneida. 
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Vonlinger Thompson; two sons, 
Mark Thompson of Helenwood, Tenn., and Johnny Thompson of Whitwell, 
Tenn.; two daughters, Janet Worley of Stearns and Robin Malone of 
North Edwards, Calif.; two sisters, Muriel Stephens of Helenwood and 
Betty Phillips of Somerset; two brothers, Earl Thompson of Monticello 
and Roy Thompson of Georgetown; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Beldon Thompson.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jones & Son Funeral Home in 
Oneida by the Rev. Chester Morgan. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. 
Wednesday in Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg. 
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

STANFORD -- Ree B. Thompson, 87, of Somerset Street died Tuesday at 
Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Nov. 29, 1913, in Pulaski County, she was a daughter of the late 
Franklin H. and Hannah Stepp Brittain. She was the widow of M.G. 
Thompson.
She retired after teaching school for 30 years in Lincoln and Pulaski 
county systems. She was a member of Stanford Baptist Church and 
formerly taught the Women's III Sunday school class. 
She was a member of the XYZ Club, Order of the Eastern Star, the 
Lincoln County Retired Teachers Association and the Lincoln County 
Homemakers Club.
Survivors include a son, Johnny Thompson of Stanford; a daughter, Becky 
Hazlett of Stanford; a sister, Madge McWilliams of Science Hill; and 
four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery 
by the Max Nester and Dale Denton.
Visitation is after 9:30 a.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home. 
Memorials are suggested to the Stanford Baptist Church Fund.

home.
Born Sept., 24, 1899, in Simpson County, she was the daughter of the 
late Livingston B. and Sarah Jane Starks Thurmond. She was the widow of 
Stephen Livingston Thurman. She was a member of First Christian Church 
(Disciples of Christ.)
Survivors include a son, Ret. Gen. William Thurman of Pinehurst, N.C., 
and a daughter Rosemary Hamblin of Danville; eight grandchildren; and 
10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hodgenville Christian Church. 
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church 
(Disciples of Christ).

Stanford, died Wednesday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born July 8, 1911, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late 
Caleb H. and Susie Pigg Todd. He was a farmer and retired from 
the orange grove business in Florida.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Gustin of Crab Orchard 
and Corine Hawkins of Fort Wright; a son, Ernest "Bud" Todd of 
Crab Orchard; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 22 
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at McKnight-Martin Funeral 
Home by Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Hershel L. Todd, 62, of Versailles, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the St. Joseph Hospice 
Care Center, Lexington. 

Born Aug. 16, 1943, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Herbert Austin and Ada Denney 
Todd. He was an electrician for the state government, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of 
Georgetown Church of Christ. 

Survivors include three sisters, Ethel Snelling, Ohio, Thelma Braden, Ohio, and Bonnie Owens, 
Versailles; and two brothers, Clinton Todd, Ohio, and Arvest Todd, Versailles. 

Services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill by Minister Joe Hill. 
Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Arvest Todd, Ken Owens, Clinton 
Todd, Harold Todd, Shelby Todd, and Ronnie Todd.

CRAB ORCHARD -- Homer L. Todd, 79, of Ky. 618 died Thursday 
at Fort Logan Hospital following complications associated with 
pneumonia. Born July 29, 1920, in Lincoln County, he was a 
son of the late William J. and Effie Clay Bastin Todd. He 
was a retired custodian at Broughtontown Elementary School 
and former custodian at Lincoln County Courthouse. He was a 
member of Friendship Baptist Church and had been a member of 
the Civilian Conservation Corps in Montana. Survivors include 
his wife, Ruby Blankenship Todd of Crab Orchard; two sons, 
Larry and Tony Todd, both of Crab Orchard; a sister, Pearl 
Belcher of Crab Orchard; three brothers, Lester Todd of 
Cincinnati, Leonard Todd of Crab Orchard and Lois Todd of 
Waynesburg; and five grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. 
Sunday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home by Cecil Roundtree. 
Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD -- Lora Reynolds Todd, 94, of Crab Orchard died Sunday at 
Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1908, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late 
Manford and Bessie Griffin Reynolds. She was a member of Friendship 
Baptist Church and the widow of Bernie Carl Todd.
Survivors include five daughters, Hester Smith of Crab Orchard, Edith 
Powers of Kennesaw, Ga., Gladys Lockard of Columbus, Ind., Doris 
McQueen of Cumberland, and Wanda Baker of Lockland, Ohio; five sons, 
Manford Todd and Bernie Todd Jr., both of Columbus, Ind., Milford Todd 
of Georgia, Raymond Todd of Crab Orchard and Robert Todd of Hamilton, 
Ohio; two half sisters, Ivie Irvin and Ruby Reynolds, both of Crab 
Orchard; 33 grandchildren; and several great- and 
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three children, 
Clyde and Emmaline Todd and Zelma Smith.
Services were today at Friendship Baptist Church in Broughtontown by 
Cecil Roundtree and Gerald Carter. Burial was in Friendship Baptist 
Church Cemetery.
Grandsons were pallbearers.

Toliver. She was a homemaker and a member of Parksville Knob 
Independent Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Zella Turner of Danville; a son,

Fla., and Elaine Kennedy of Bluefield, W.Va.; three brothers,

Burial will be in McKinney Cemetery.He died Monday at his home.
He was an appliance service technician and a member of McKinney Area Rescue Squad and McKinney Fire Department. 
He had served on the Lincoln County Fire Board and belonged to Lonesome Pines Bluegrass Band. He was a World War II 
Navy veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7101.
Born Oct. 3, 1926, in Lincoln County, he was the son of Carlous and Sabra Baugh Toombs. 
Survivors include his wife, Doris Toombs; three daughters, Tina McDonald of Hustonville, Murlyn Toombs of Lawrenceburg and Mary Ann Chambers of Okinawa; a son, Wesley E. Toombs of Seffner, Fla.; a brother, Herb Toombs of Danville; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
