Charles DePauw
my 4th g. grandfather
Charles De Pauw, born Ghent, Belgium March
11, 1753, died in Louisiana August 31, 1814. DePauw
owned property in Lincoln Co. as early as 1787 and lived in northwest Lincoln
Co. (Mercer, Boyle and Casey co. area) until about 1810. He was in the
French army at Yorktown and served with Shelby at the Battle of the Thames.
Charles DePauw was also living in Lincoln Co. when he was involved
in the plot by the Frenchman Genet to overthrow the Spanish in Louisiana.
I also have his military record from the
French archives, a listing of him as a volunteer in the Kentucky Mounted
Volunteers and a photograph of burial site in Salem, Indiana.
