Census, Marriage Bonds, Court Records, Newspaper. NOTES on Theresa UNKNOWN,THORP, McCARTY, HARMON/HAMMON, DEVINE: Theresa & Joseph McCARTY is my direct line through their son, Francis Marion McCARTY. We have realized that Theresa lived a hard, eventful and exciting life. She must have had good qualities and a few good looks to have married 4 times. At each marriage, she list her age at 40 years old, she must have kept her looks up to pass every time at age 40. She lived past 4 husbands, had children of her own and likely helped rear many of her step-children, grandchildren, neices, nephews and great grandchildren. She out lived many of her step children, their wives, husbands & children. We think she had children by her marriage to the Unknown THORP, possibly 3, but can't find the proof needed, but they are close to her during census. She lived during a time when Indians were still a threat along with unknown diseases at the time and nature's own hardships. She lived during the Civil War, it's hard to imagine the sites and sounds and gossip she heard and lived through during this time. Think of all the inventions she came to see that we all take for granted today. I just hope my Great Great GREAT Grandmother had a thousand more good times and memories than bad, and I'm thankful and blessed she is a part of me.
