A
Revolt...........................
The Cumberland Telephone Company
who had a splendid plant
installed, in Lebanon, Ky., with
something near 300 phones,
advanced the rent and the
citizens arose in mass and
surrendered a large percent of
the boxes. Fully 285 were
surrendered last week.
The Cumberland, so we are
informed, had not been giving
the service required and this
with the advance led to the
revolt. The citizens of that
town met last Friday night and
subscribed $700,000 [sic] for
the purpose of putting in a new
plant. Luckily no franchise had
been sold and thus the people
will probably be the master of
the situation. The Home Company
has offered them long distance
connection. Free and untrammeled
competition is the only saving
clause for the great mass of
people. |
