H.D. Hopwood is Dead At 80; Rites Planned
Handley D. Hopwood, 80, a retired printer, died
at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday at Western Baptist Hospital.
Mr. Hopwood, a resident of Moore Road, Mt.Zion
community, had worked for most of the commerical prinitng companies
in Paducah, including The Paducah Printing Co.,
Leake Printing Co., and the former Billings Printing Co.
He had been a member of the Paducah Typographical
Union No. 134 for more than 50 years.
Mr. Hopwood, a native of Sturgis, was a member
and deacon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
He and his wife, Mrs. Eva Hopwood observed their
50th wedding anniversary last March.
Other survivors include a son, of Paducah; a
daughter, of Paducah; a brother, of Paducah; two sisters,
East St. Louis, Ill., and of Wenatchee, Wash.; six grandchildren
and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled Saturday at 2 p.m.
at Mt. Zion baptist Church with the Rev. Jewell Barrett and the Rev. Vernon
Talley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Pease, Ira Harris,
Arnold Scott, Richard Gholson, Ray Myers and Beasley Vaughan.
Deacons of the church will serve as honorary
pallbearers.
Friends may call at Lindsey Funeral Home until
noon Saturday when the body will be taken to the church.
