Matthew ROGERS married Eleanor CARTER. Their daughter
Mary married John B. KELLEY in 1814 and lived in Warrick

CARTER families. Was Eleanor's father Shadrach CARTER?
She named a son Shadrach. Who were Shadrach, Meshack,
Abednigo, Nicholas and Thomas CARTER? Thomas moved next
to Thomas LINCOLN in Spencer Co., Indiana. Who were the
families of Gabriel and Isaac COX? I believe that Nancy
COX who married Benjamin GRAY ca1796 and moved to

These people in my query all lived in Nelson County,
Kentucky. Some of them moved to Indiana. I have
information on those who moved. I need information on
those in Nelson County especially who were their
families and where they came from. Who was father of

they were reported to have married in 1905. Is there any

William HARRELL owned land in Nelson County from 1796
- 1802 on which his son, Chester HARRELL, lived. It
appears that Chester married twice, with the first
marriage possibly to an Everett. The second marriage was
in Bardstown on June 1, 1787, to Betsy STEPHENS daughter
of Mary Cases or Gates. The Chester Harrells moved
briefly to Preble County Ohio, before locating
permanently in what became Franklin County, IN. Chester

husband was frozen to death in a snowstorm abt. 1808-1810. (His last child ,
Harriet, was born abt. 1808 and he is not shown on the 1810 census, so it's
logical.) He was a trader/salesman. Their daughter Harriet's spouse was named

Writer's wife Judith Grace LEONARD Clayton seeks information on her grandfather
JOHN JOSEPH LEONARD. Looking for ANYTHING on John Joseph Leonard, born 1878 in
Nelson County in Bardstown, KY. He was an itinerant printer and "type setter."
In his teens worked around newspaper offices in Louisville. Joined the Army for
the Spanish American War. (All this in his own words). He married widow Martha
Anne Garris Robertson in Great Falls, SC about 1906. Unknown how he came to
SC...possibly after the War. Told Martha Anne Garris Robertson that his mother
and father had been a vaudeville act, essentially dancers. Riverboat people on
the Mississippi River. He was somehow orphaned and was raised by his grandmother
in Bardstown...she was a Shelton or Sheldon. He had a twin brother. We have
researched Bardstown and have found nothing. He has thus far escaped us in
Louisville as well. Nothing on his Spanish American War record either. His
record should reveal that he lived around Bardstown until at least his teen
years. Then to Louisville until the Spanish American War. He and Martha Garris
Robertson Leonard had one son, Richard Louis Leonard, Sr. born in 1908 in Great
Falls, SC. John Joseph Leonard died in 1947 in Kannapolis, NC.

Children: John Baptist b. 1745, d. 1 Feb, 1808 m. Susannah Gough m. Elizabeth
Hopewell Shercliff 26 jy, 1791 Anne Spaulding - m. Edward Spaulding sometime
before 1763 Mary Anne Dant Mary Mills m. Justinian Mills in 1751 Charles Joseph
Francis Xavior, incorrectly called Joseph Francis Excol in the Calendar of

14 June, 1798 m Samuel Willett 18 March 1818 d. 29 December, 1875 in Kentucky
She was married in Bardstown, Ky - at that time her parents were dead Joseph
Francis - maybe b 1799; baptized at Georgetown, Md (now DC) in 1800.
----------------- Question 1: Does anyone have any information about Joseph
Francis Xavior Dant or Martha Shercliff Dant, his wife? I know her father was
Thomas Shercliff, St. Charles Co., but do not have either a birth or a death
date for either person. I have seen him referred to as Joseph and as Joseph
Francis. ---------------- Question 2: Has anyone seen baptismal records for
Eliza Ann Dant and/or Mary Dant, of Thomas and Martha? Thomas apparently had 8
children, the youngest appearing only in the Trinity Church (Georgetown)
baptismal records, hence probably died in infancy. All other children were
born/baptized in Georgetown, except two daughters: Eliza Ann and Mary. Thomas
and Martha lived in Kentucky from 1817-1825 and the rest of the time in
Georgetown and then in Prince Georges Co, Md. On the 1830 census they were
listed as having two daughters, one born between 1815-1820 and the other born
between 1820-1825. Since this is the time they were living in Kentucky, I assume
their baptismal records are there. I have no idea which church they attended
while in Kentucky, but they were Roman Catholics. -------------------- Thanks

the Cox's Creek Baptist Church in Nelson County, Kentucky. His children were

(married Polly MARSHALL), John (married Polly RICKS), Thompson (married Sarah
BATSEL), Sarah (married William MARSHALL) and James. Many of these families went
to Daviess and surrounding counties in Kentucky and on to IN, IL, and westward.

Query: I am interested in any information that anyone could
provide on the exact locations of the mill at the mouth of Hardin's creek
(apparently near a road that crossed Grundy's Ford and Stewart's creek) and
warehouse (1/4 mile from the mouth) owned by Jacob Doom during the 1790s.
Jacob lived on 625 acres on Short creek between John Nall and Richard Parker;
and next to Jacob Yoder; apparently "on the east side of the road leading from
John Phillips to Bardstown".
He also had land below Lebanon along Indian Lick creek and Rowling Fork
creek- apparently next to Henry Smock and two families named Whitehead and
Mayerd.
Among his friends and associates were Robert Peak, Ignatius Cissel, Thomas,
John and William Phillips, Coleman Brown, John Lancaster, William Rice, James
Watkins, John Helm, George Hamilton, Thomas Brown, Henry Faith, Richard Shelby,
John Overlin, Terrence Conner, Thomas Elliot, Isaac Morison and George Summers.
I am interested in any information on Jacob Doom, old maps or local histories
detailing the area of that time, or information on any of the individuals
mentioned.
By the way, I have a truly "sickening" amount of information on the many
branches of the Dooms.
I live in St. Louis and will be returning to the Bardstown area in the near
future.

Query: I am looking for information on the REID family who settled in
Nelson Co. in 1782-85 on the "Beech Fork," I think near Gilkey's Run. I have
traced my lineage back to Alexander Reid, b. in Nelson Co. in 1804. In his
marriage bonds to Lucy Anna Robinson (d.o. John Robinson and Henrietta Reid),
Alexander lists his father as David Reid from Pennsylvania and his mother,
Nancy, as being from Maryland. I believe Nancy's maiden name was Power or
Powers. (Henrietta Reid was also related to David Reid, I think his sister.)
Alexander and Lucy Reid's children were John D., Susan M., Margaret
A. George W. and Eliza C.
The above-described land is listed in the Master Index of Virginia
Surveys and Grants 1774-1791 and was surveyed in the 1780's. The index lists
several different Reids on the land in that area (i.e., Alexander, Andrew,
James, John), but not David. I do know that it was my family of Reids that
settled on that land. I just have not been able to figure out David, father of
Alexander's, connection to the Reid's listed in the Index of surveys & grants,
or to find out exactly where they migrated from and if they obtained their land
through military service, homestead, etc.
Any help on this, or information on the families of Power(s) and
Robinson, would be greatly appreciated.

For example, the "lore" is that his first wife was Annie Coleman. I have
never seen any proof of this, and would love to obtain information that
would prove or even tend to confirm this. Alexander's second wife (and
mother of Joshua) was Susan Unseld. I, too, have lots of information on her
