He married (1) RACHEL HOPKINS November 03, 1804 in Green County, Kentucky, daughter of HENRY HOPKINS and HANNAH BURR. She was born Abt. 1782 in Pennsylvania, and died Abt. 1816 in Henry County, Kentucky. He married (2) ELIZABETH SMITH March 22, 1817 in Shelby County, Kentucky, daughter of ?? ?? and MOLLY SMITH. She was born Abt. 1794 in Virginia, and died 1867 in Lewis County, Missouri.

NOV 3, 1804 Married to Rachel Hopkins in Green County Ky. Witnesses: brothers Andrew and David Watkins. Marriage bond signed by him and brother Andrew. (Green County Ky Marriage Book A, p. 59.) She was born about 1780, and the 1880 Daviess County Ky census for son John Watkins, Jr. shows "place of birth of mother" as Pennsylvania.
