The Oldham Era.  George W. Fendley Commits Suicide at Westport

Mr. George W. Fendley, son of the late John Fendley, committed suicide at his home near Westport late Thursday. He had been in bad health for several weeks and his farm work was being neglected. He became despondent and took a dose of Paris Green. After telling his wife she called the physician and antidotes were administered about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. He seemed to be much better and the family thought he had passed the crisis. Later he was taken worse and all suspected he had taken a second dose, although he would not acknowledge having done so. He passed away about 10 o'clock. A funeral service was held at the home of his brother, James Fendley, on Saturday morning.  A neighbor, Mr. A. M. Stokely, conducted the service after which the remains were interred in the Pres. Collier Burial Ground.  Mr. Fendley was 47 years old. He had been married twice, all children by his first wife being grown and married. He has only one child by the present wife. He leaves one brother, and a sister, Mrs. Newton Straughn.
