Bessie (Hargett) Smith, 71, of Brooksville, passed away Friday, April 4, 2003 at home.
She was born March 26, 1932 in Bracken County, daughter of the late Luch and Stella Mofford Hargett. She was a retired cook for the Bracken County Board of Education. She was a member of the Salem Wesleyan Church in Brooksville. She married John Smith in June of 1958, whom survives her passing.
Preceding her in death were brothers, Charles Hargett, Bill Hargett and Clyde Hargett and sisters, Jesse Hargett (Bessie’s twin) and Margaret Bravard.
Besides her husband, other survivors include children, John Smith of Maysville, Jeff Smith of Brooksville, Dennis McQuinlin of Covington, Jerry McQuinlin of Johnsville, Pam Workman of Brooksville, Rhonda McDonald of Tipton, Ga., Donna Mobley of Flemingsburg, Linda Meyer, also of Brooksville and Kathy Meyer of Amonda, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Hargett of Crothersville, Indiana; and sisters, Louise Burton of Augusta, Faye Sellers of Brooksville, and Betty Mills of Covington.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home in Brooksville.
Interment will be in the Johnsville Cemetery, Foster.


Frank Emery Kells, 84, of Florence, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
He was born Monday, September 23, 1918 in Grant County, son of the late Willie Francis and Kattie B. Ammerman Kells. He was a member of the Roanoke Christian Church in Falmouth. He was a mechanic for Hertz Truck Rental in Cincinnati, Ohio for over 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Kells of Florence; a son, Kenneth Kells of Morgan; a daughter, Audrey Kells Ward of Florence; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were April 2 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown.
Interment was in the Williamstown Cemetery.


Joyce Stull, 64, of Alexandria, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003 at her home.
Joyce was born in Wolfe County, Ky. on August 19, 1938, daughter of Roy and Nora Smith. She was retired from Dairy Mart in Newport. Preceding her in death was a son, Michael Stull and a brother, JR Smith.
Survivors include her mother, Nora Smith of Grants Lick; a daughter, Debbie Proctor of Butler; brothers, Richard Smith of Alexandria, Jimmy Smith of Covington and Hobert T. Smith of Cold Spring; and sisters, Cynthia Ward and Kathy McDowell, both of Falmouth, Faye Perkins of California and Lyndia Bolia of Harrison, Ohio.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 7 at Peoples Funeral Home in Grants Lick.
Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.


Marjorie Lee (Morgan) England, 77, of Augusta, passed away Friday, April 4, 2003 at Augusta Health Care.
She was born July 14, 1925 in Brooksville, daughter of the late Robert Lee and Anna Marie (Lundrigan) Morgan. She was a member of the Augusta Presbyterian Church. She married Carl England in August 6, 1948, who preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include nieces, Cheryl Morgan and Pamela Morgan, both of Michigan, Carolyn Smittee of California, Lana Clark of Brooksville, Sherry Field of Corinth and Michelle Morgan of Louisiana; a nephew, Steve Morgan of Mt. Olivet; a sister, Lavonne Fryman of Augusta; and two brothers, Wilbert Morgan of Alexandria and Robert Morgan of Warren, MI.
Funeral services were Monday, April 7 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home in Brooksville.
Interment was in the Brooksville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope in Maysville.


Paul “Rusty” Wilson, 78, of Falmouth, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003 at the home of his son.
Rusty was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 8, 1925, son of the late Jess M. and Lou Caudill Wilson. He was a retired bricklayer; member of the Falmouth Christian Church and former deacon there; president of Local #2 Newport for 13 years; member of Bricklayers Union for 50 years (B.A.C.); and a Mason for over 50 years. Rusty was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #109 and VFW. He was also a cub scout master.
Preceding him in death was his first wife, Louise Fogle Wilson, who passed away on April 11, 1986. They were married on July 12, 1947. His second wife, Norma Martin Wilson, preceded him in death on September 11, 2002. Also preceding him in death were brothers, John Wilson, William Wilson, Harold Wilson and Jess Wilson.
Survivors include a son, Paul Wilson of Falmouth; a daughter, Linda Wilson Simons of Carlisle; a sister, Verna Flora of Wilder; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Salvation Army or to the Falmouth Christian Church.


Tom Purdy, 73, of Falmouth, passed away Friday, April 4, 2003 at Harrison County Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana.
Tom was born in Kentucky on February 3, 1930, son of the late Victor and Myrtle Purdy. He served 35 years on the Falmouth Fire Department. For over 40 years, he was in charge of the Falmouth Little League. He was a former Falmouth policeman for four years. He was a milk truck driver for Pendleton and Bracken Counties. He was a Pendleton County school bus driver. Tom was also a self employed water truck driver.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clyde Purdy and Floyd Purdy; sisters, Carrie Clos and Wilma Hopper; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Purdy of Falmouth; sons, Charlie Purdy and Rocky Hughes, both of Falmouth and Randy Hughes of Oklahoma; a daughter, Cyndi Martin of Falmouth; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, April 7 at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth.
Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery.


Valeria Jean (Tucker) Bell, 63, of Augusta, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Maysville Extended Care.
She was born March 14, 1940 in Mason County, daughter of the late Henry Tucker (who passed away in 1955) and Mary E. (Fields) Tucker Miller (who passed away in 2000). She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Augusta.
Survivors include her loving companion, Don Clark of Augusta; sons, Ricky Florence of Lexington, Marvin Florence of Milford and Anthony Florence of Tennessee; a daughter, Penny Steele of Florida; several grandchilden and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Carolyn French of Umatilla, Florida, Delores French of Murphy, North Carolina and Mary Fryman of Augusta.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home in Augusta. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospcie of Hope in Maysville.


Mrs. Virgilene Stanfield Spegal, 86, Falmouth, passed away Monday, April 7, 2003 at the Grant Manor Nursing Home in Williamstown.
She was the widow of Chris Johnson and Chester Spegal. She was born in Pendleton County on June 22, 1916, to the late Henry and Mollie Vickroy Stanfield. She was a retired employee of Ben’s Department Store in Cincinnati and a member of the Flour Creek Christian Church in Butler.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Johnson in 1963, a brothr, Howard Stanfield and a sister, Hazel Brownfield.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Joan Miles of Falmouth; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 at the funeral home, under the direction of Bro. Dale Bobb.
Interment will be in the Butler Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Pendleton County Senior Citizens or to the American Cancer Society.


Walter Olan Sexton, 76, of Augusta, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Hospital South in Edgewood.
Walter was born in Covington on June 3, 1926, son of the late Olan M. and Flora Hazel (Scroggins) Sexton. He was an owner/manager of Wallou Tool Company in Foster. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a life member of the VFW Post 9535 in Augusta. He married Louise (Coleman) Sexton on April 15, 1943, who survives his passing.
Preceding him in death was a son, Larry Sexton; a brother, Allen Sexton; and two sisters, Pat Sexton and Ethel Glaser.
Besides his wife, other survivors include a daughter, Sandra Sexton of Augusta; and two grandsons, Stephen Pullom of San Diego, California and Joseph Pullom of Groton, Conn.
Funeral services were Sunday, April 6 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home in Augusta.
Interment was in the Sharon Cemetery, Augusta.


William Charles Rump Jr., 68, of Falmouth, passed away Monday, March 31, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Rump was born on September 23, 1934, son of William and Mary Gripshover Rump. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II. He married Georgianna Niemeyer Rump, whom survives his passing.
Besides his wife, other survivors include sons, Gary Rump of Williamstown and Bill Rump Jr. of Piner, Ky.; daughters, Debbie Hembree of Erlanger and Ava Bogan of DeMossville; brothers, Leo Rump of Covington and Lenord Rump of Ryland Heights; sisters, Frances Foltz of Clearwater, Florida, Dorothy Winston of Erlanger and Alma Deathrage of Independence; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, April 4 at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth.
Interment was in Short Creek Cemetery, Pendleton County.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
American Legion Post #109, VFW Post #1978 and DAV Post held full military services for Mr. William Charles Rump Jr. at the Short Creek Cemetery on April 4, 2003.
Mr. Rump served in the United States Army in World War II.
To Mr. William Charles Rump Jr., we honor and salute you.
To the famiy, we offer our sympathy.
American Legion #109, VFW Post #1978 and DAV Post members present were Ray Hammond, Wallace Browning, Tom Luckey, Carl Butcher, Charlie Biddle, Bill Williams, Steve Lonaker, James Priest, Joe Taravella, Sam Hodge, Jonathan Smith, Omer Bentle, Nelson Hill, Charlie Lemmons, Jim Sharp and Larry Fields.
