Mrs.
Anna
Humphries Brown Roark, 90, of
Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Harrison
County, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2003
at St. Mary’s Hospital in Knoxville.
She was a member of the First Christian
Church in Mountain City, Tennessee.
She is survived by two daughters, Patsy
Stranberg of Knoxville, Tennessee and Nancy
Puddi, also of Knoxville; a son, Paul Brown
of Houston, Texas; a stepson, Kenneth Roark
of Rainbow City, Alabama; a stepdaughter,
Marilyn Carpenter of Independence; a
brother, Howard Gooden of Cincinnati; and
numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, April 21 at
Woodhead Funeral Home in Berry.
Interment was in the Pythian Grove Cemetery,
Berry.
Memorials are suggested to the American
Arthritis Foundation.
Cleve Collins
Jr.
, 71, of
Crescent Springs, passed away Saturday,
April 19, 2003 at St. Luke Hospital West in
Florence.
He was born on September 4, 1931 to the late
Cleve and Narsis Campbell Collins. He was a
member of the Masonic Lodge No. 345, Golden
Rule Lodge in Latonia and was a United
States Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by four siblings,
Merrill Collins, Pole Collins, Elsie Collins
and J. L. Collins.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years,
Norma Collins; two children, Carlotta
(James) Shelton and Randall Collins; two
grandchildren, Steven (Amie) Shelton and
Amanda (Jamie) Smith; two
great-grandchildren, Annabelle Jane Smith
and Breona Jade Shelton; seven siblings,
Bonnie Woodall of Cincinnati, Harvey Collins
of Bardstown, Susie Ericson of Independence,
Johnny Collins of Burlington, Christine Ward
of Florence, Betty Jean Vest of Cincinnati
and Polly Jane Wolfe of Middletown, Ohio.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 22 at
Woodhead Funeral Home in Berry, under the
direction of Gayliss Gaines and James
Shelton. Pallbearers were Jamie Smith, Steve
Shelton, Jacob Howard, Jonathan Collins,
Jason Collins, Bill Howard and Jeffrey
Collins. Honorary pallbearers were Joe
Chambers, Billy Howard and Bud Ericson.
Interment was in the Pythian Grove Cemetery,
Berry.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of
one’s choice.

Eula Dean
Bathalter, 66, of Falmouth, passed
away Thursday, April 17, 2003 at her home.
Born in Rowan County, Ky., on May 4, 1936,
she was the daughter of the late Russell and
Delphia Ison Mynhier. She was an artist and
an author. She married Robert E. Bathalter
on November 23, 1973 and her devoted husband
survives her passing.
Dean, as she was known, was a 1965 graduate
of Pendleton County High School.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she leaves
a son, James H. Barnard of Alexandria; a
daughter, Victoria Lynn Wagner of
Winchester; two grandchildren, Adam and
Kendra Barnard; a brother, Darryl Mynhier of
Louisa, Ky.; and three sisters, Mary Jo
Thompson, Lavaughn Engil and Pauletta
Walthers, all of Morehead.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, April 22 at Woodhead Funeral Home
in Falmouth with Gary Barnard and Father
Bach officiating. The family will receive
friends from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday preceding the
service.
Her final resting place will be in the
Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of
Hope in Maysville.
Edith M. Denny,
86, of Lexington, passed away Sayre
Christian Village in Lexington.
She was born Saturday, April 7, 1917 in
Pendleton County, daughter of the late John
and Ethel Denny. She was a member of the
Roanoke Christian Church in Pendleton
County. She was a supervisor of instruction
and a retired teacher for the Pendleton
County schools, having 44 years of service
in education.
Survivors include two sisters, Carrie Ruth
Dance of Lexington and Mildred Morris of
Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday,
April 24 at Roanoke Christian Church in
Pendleton County. Visitation will from 1
p.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be in the Roanoke Church
Cemetery, Pendleton County.
Memorials are suggested to the Roanoke
Church Cemetery Fund or to the Sayre
Christian Village.
James
“Jimmy” Teegarden, 65, of Falmouth,
passed away Saturday, April 19, 2003 at
Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana.
Jimmy was born in Bracken County on June 13,
1937, son of the late James and Clara
Perkins Teegarden. He was a retired deputy
jailer for Pendleton County and was an avid
outdoorsmen. He married Naomi Bruin, whom
survives his passing.
Besides his wife, other survivors include, a
daughter, Kim King of Falmouth; a son, Terry
Lonaker of Falmouth; a stepson, Sonny
Lonaker of Falmouth; stepdaughters, Robin
King of Boyd and Amy Brown of Falmouth;
sisters, Bertha Wigglesworth, Mary Catherine
Teegarden and Ruth Hall, all of Falmouth;
seven grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday,
April 22 at Peoples Funeral Home in
Falmouth. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Richie,
Ricky Teegarden, Jimmy Bruin, Bob Yelton,
Randy Wyatt and Joey McCoy.
Interment will be in the Mt. Vernon
Cemetery, Pendleton County.
Richard Magee,
90, of Cynthiana, passed away on March 22,
2003 in Cynthiana.
He was born in Harrison County on February
9, 1913, son of the late Sylvester Magee and
Myrtie Winkle Magee. He had two brothers,
Fred and James, and two sons, Robert Ray and
Richard Jr., who also preceded him in death.
He was a farmer, an auctioneer and a long
time employee of the Taystee Bakery in
Cincinnati, Ohio.
Survivors include a son, Ronnie Magee of
Garland, Texas; a daughter, Lillian Conrad
of Alexandria; five grandchildren; one
stepgrandchild; one great-grandchild; and
several nieces and nephews.
Services were at the convenience of the
family.
Interment was in the Pythiana Grove
Cemetery, Berry.
Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, was in
charge of arrangements.
Richard
Robinson, 21, of Covington, passed
away Sunday, April 20, 2003 at St. Elizabeth
Hospital North, Covington.
He was a cook for Wendy’s in Ft. Wright.
Survivors include his mother, Almeda Plogman
of Covington; and maternal grandparents,
John and Lorraine Sams of Covington.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m.until the time
of service on Tuesday, April 22 at Cooper
Funeral Home in Grants Lick.

Rose Virginia
McVay, 80, of Falmouth, passed away
Monday, April 21, 2003 at St. Luke Hospita
East.
Rose was born in Tennessee on November 28,
1922, daughter of James and Grace Andrews.
She married Doc McVay who preceded her in
death. Also preceding her in death was a
daughter, Grace Byrum, a sister, Della
Thompson and a brother, Frankie Andrews.
Survivors include daughters, Phyllis Edwards
of Falmouth and Peggy Charles of Orlando,
Florida; sisters, Ruth Surgener of Indiana
and Nellie Farris of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10
grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, April 25 at
Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth.
Interment was in the Johnsville Cemetery,
Bracken County.
James David
Rose, 52, of Cynthiana, passed away
Sunday, April 20, 2003 at his home,
following an extended illness.
He was born August 10,1950 in Paris, Ky., to
Rev. James Wurth and JoAnn Holbrook Rose.
Mr. Rose was a 1968 graduate of Jessamine
County High School and a 1972 graduate of
Asbury with a Bachelor in English Literature
and from Morehead University with a Masters
in Education. He was employed by the
Harrison County School System as a high
school teacher. He was an avid book reader
and a member of the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Rose was also a former teacher at the
Pendleton County High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived
by his wife, Amber Thompson Rose; a son,
Michael Austin Rose of Cynthiana; a sister,
Debra Hudson of Cynthiana; and many family
and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 23 at
Drake Whaley McCarty Funeral Home with Rev.
Jimmy Rose and Rev. Wayne Sparks
officiating. Pallbearers were Rick Gaunder,
Joe Mucker, Steve Rigsby, Rick Redmond, Paul
Hamann and Bryan Thompson. Honorary
pallbearers were John Swinford, Dr. Frank
McKemie and Gayle Rose.
Interment was in the Battle Grove Cemetery.
The family requested that donations be made
to Hospice of Bluegrass of Cynthiana.
