Adam Christopher Messmer, 18, of Alexandria, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas.
He was born on May 16, 1984 in Kenton County, son of Chris and Joan Moore Messmer.
He was a 2002 graduate of Campbell County High School and had attended Northern Kentucky University. He was employed by Truckway Leasing Company, Claryville and was a member of Plum Creek Christian Church, Campbell County.
In addition to his parents, Chris and Joan Moore Messmer, he leaves one sister, Kristen Messmer of Alexandria; his maternal grandparents, Bill and Bonnie Moore of Falmouth; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 9 at Plum Creek Christian Church in Alexandria with Bro. Larry Travis, Bro. Joe Green and Bro. Michael Damron officiating. Interment took place in Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County, under the direction of Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Serving as pallbearers were Dean Moore, Rodney Moore, Charles Messmer, Tony Messmer, Tim Messmer, John Messmer and Larry Messmer. Music was shared by Lennie and Amy Brown and Vic Vogt.
Memorials are suggested to St. Luke Rehabilitation Program, 512 South Maple Ave., Falmouth, KY 41040, or Plum Creek Christian Church, Rt 3, Box 292, Butler, KY 41006.


Bernice “Bunny” Aleena Caldwell Morris, 72, of Augusta, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at home.
She was born on July 24, 1924 in Pendleton County, daughter of the late Bernard Lee and Christine Mulloy Caldwell. She was a retired bookkeeper for Morris Standard Service and was a member of the Grassy Creek Christian Church. She married Carroll Fonzie Morris on May 6, 1944, who survives her passing. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Carol Faye Mains England on June 10, 1986.
Survivors include a son, Daryl Dean (Janet) Morris of Augusta; grandchildren, Sharon Staviski, Darin England, Kristin Morris and Brad Morris; great-grandchildren, Evan Staviski, Carrie Staviski, Hannah Staviski and Kaylee Staviski; and sisters, Helen Shields of Newport, Dorothy McClanahan and Carolyn Hart, both of Butler and Ruth Fogle of Demossville.
Funeral services were Thursday, January 9, 2003 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home, Augusta.
Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Augusta.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope or to the church of one’s choice.


Earl Hicks, 82, of Union, passed away January 3, 2003 at Northern Kentucky Rehabilitation and Care Center, Highland Heights.
He was a past master of Boone-Union Masonic Lodge No. 304, a member of the Scottish Rite and a United States Army Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Sophia Lee King; a son, Kenneth Hicks of Sparta; daughters, Phyllis Cuzick of Union, Vada Haley of Knoxville, Tenn., and Glinda Fugate of Erlanger; a borhter, Carlo Hicks of Demossville; a sister, Lucy York of Tyner; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, January 6 at Justice Funeral Home, McKee.
Interment was in Neeley Cemetery, Tyner.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Ft. Thomas, KY 41075.


Elmer Cox, 86, of Covington, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2003 at his home.
He was a retired truck driver for Ashland Oil and a volunteer driver for Latonia Baptist Church. His wife, Louise Barnett Cox, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, James Cox of Illinois and Edward Cox of Texas; daughters, Renie Cox of Covington; Sylvia Hastings of DeMossville, Janice Schulte of West Chester, Ohio, Charlene Argue of Burlington, Penny Bayse of Dry Ride, Jackie Cox of Erlanger and Barbara Pippin of Morningview; a sister, Beulah Goldfuss of Cincinnati; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 12 at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home in Latonia.
Memorials are suggested to ST. Luke Medical House Program, 7380 Turfway Road, Florence, Ky. 41042


Fletchie Cox Sorrell, 72, of Falmouth, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at River Valley Nursing Home in Butler.
Fletchie was born in Middletown, Ohio on October 14, 1930, daughter of Buford and Sallie (Applegate) Cox. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Zion Baptist Church. She married William (Bill) Sorrell, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Delmer Cox and a son (William) Stacey Sorrell.
Survivors include brothers, Edward (Buck) Cox and Delbert Cox, both of Butler, Curtis Cox of Falmouth and Chanis Cox of Foster; one grandchild; one stepgrandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Friday, January 10 at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth.
Interment was in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.


Ida Mae (Cooper) Lytle, 78, of Augusta, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2003 at Prestonsburg Health Care Center in Prestonsburg.
She was born in Robertson County, Ky., on May 24, 1924, daughter of the late Charlie and Myrtle Shields Cooper. She married Vernon Scott Lytle and her husband preceded her in death. Children, Lana Sue Sweeney and Scotty Lytle and sisters Lois Marie Snyder and Helen Elizabeth Hutchinson also preceded her.
Survivors include grandchildren Dennis Tucker, David Tucker, Joetta Tucker and Richie Lytle; sisters Mary Jean Montgomery of Ohio and Charles Wayne Cooper of Ohio; sisters-in-law Ester Lytle of Falmouth and Catherine Lytle of Augusta.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 12 at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Interment took place in the Johnsville Cemetery, Foster, Ky.

Iona Darlene Oetzel, 84, of Grant’s Lick, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2003 at the Robertson County Health Care Facility, Mt. Olivet.
Mrs. Oetzel was born on July 6, 1918 in Claryville, daughter of the late George and Mabel (nee Daniel) Baker. Mrs. Oetzel was retired, she was an employee of Hancock’s Food Mart, Highland Heights. She also worked for the Campbell County Schools and a member of the Grant’s Lick Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcom Schafer in 1973 and husband, Phillip Oetzel in 1991; a sister, Eva Mac Munro and three brothers, Harold, Leroy and Ralph Baker.Survivors include two daughters, Charlene Kennedy of Grants Lick, and Alta Wilson of Butler; a son, Gayle Schafer of Grant’s Lick; a stepdaughter, Janet Goodell of Prophetstown, IL,; a sister, Ida Lee Gaugler of Center Valley, PA; a brother, Charles Baker of Ft. Thomas; five grandchildren, Lisa Schafer, Michael Schafer, Jason Kennedy, Jennifer Kennedy, all of Grant’s Lick, Jamie Kennedy of Crescent Springs; two stepgrandchildren, Diane Baker and David Goodell, both of Prophetstown, IL; two great-grandchildren, Josh and Taylor Emery, both of Grant’s Lick and two stepgreat-granchildren, Jacob and Abbey Baker, both of Prophetstown, IL.Funeral services were Thursday, January 9 at Grant’s Lick Baptist Church with her grandsons, Rev. Michael Schafer and Jason Kennedy officiating. Music was provided by Peggy Miller and R. Dell Brandenburg. Serving as pallbearers were Jamie, Jennifer and Jason Kennedy, Josh Emery, Russ Donaldson, and Bill Schafer. Honorary pallbearers were Lisa Schafer, Taylor Emergy and Charles Baker.Interment was in the Butler Cemetery under the direction of the Alexandria Funeral Home.

Mable Clara Cummins, 98, of Butler, formerly of Foster, passed away Monday, January 6, 2003 at River Valley Nursing Home in Butler. Mrs. Cummins was born in Bracken County on April14, 1904, the daughter of the late George and Merchia Gosney Meyer. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death was her husband, Dana Chatham Cummins, a grandson, Skip Martin, a granddaughter, Sandy Wells and a brother, Wilford Meyer.Survivors include a son, Shirley Cummins of Verona; a daughter, Fern Martin of Falmouth; a sister, Georgia Lou Thompson of Bracken County four grandchildren: Melanie Pikar, Andra Nichols, Gene Mark Cummins and Tim Cummins; four great-grandchildren: Dana Wells, Stacey Wells, Jacob Pikar and James Pikar; and three great-great-grandchildren: Abbi Wells, Tiffany Wells and Brittany Wells.Funeral services were Saturday, January 11 at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.Interment was in Lenoxburg Cemetery, under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.Memorial contributions are suggested to the Gideon Memorial Bible, P.O. Box 147, Falmouth, KY 41040 or to the Pine Grove Methodist Church, c/o Hilda Wright, 4309 Concord Caddo Road, Falmouth, KY 41040.


Tracie Lynn Reed, 28, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at her home.
She was employed with preferred medical group in Kenwood, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her father, Edward Richardson of Newport; mother, Sandra Richmond of Newport; sons, Garen Reed of Covington and Chase Reed of Coldwell, Ohio; daughter, Tama Reed of Covington.
Services were Saturday, January 11 at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Interment was in Alexandria Cemetery.


Sharon K. Cochran Gates, 56, Indianapolis, passed away January 4, 2003.
She was a teacher 12 years for Shelby Central Schools. She was a graduate of Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky. and the University of Kentucky.
She and her husband formerly pastored at the Falmouth Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth W. Gates; daughter, Jennifer Gates and parents, Winifred and Helen Kendall Cochran.
Funeral services were January 8 in Eastlawn Wesleyan Church, of which she was a member and Sunday School teacher.
Interment was in Washington Park East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wesleyan World Missions, in care of the church.
