John
Charles Wesley Hinton, 77, of
Falmouth, passed away on Saturday December
6, 2003 at the St. Luke Hospital East in Ft.
Thomas, Ky. He was born in Hardinsburg, Ky.,
on June 15, 1927, the youngest son of the
late Rev. William A. and Florence Williams
Hinton. He married C. Juanita Pharris Hinton
on November 12, 1950 and his dear wife
survives his passing. They were married for
53 years, he was preceded in death by a son,
Joseph McRae Hinton, December 5, 1985. He
was a member of the former Allen Chapel
United Methodist Church in Falmouth, where
his father pastored for many years and he
served as treasurer and song leader. He
owned the former Supreme Radio and
Television in Falmouth, retiring in 1977
after 25 years, he then went to work for
Square D. Company in Florence for 15 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife Juanita
are two daughters; Jacqueline Hinton-Cravanas
and her husband Vyrone Cravanas of
Knoxville, Tenn., Billie Jean Stout of
Batavia, Ohio, and a son John Anthony Hinton
of Easton, Pa., six grandchildren; Brooke
Stout, John Anthony Hinton, II, Tiffany
Hinton, Michael Hinton, Alex Cravanas, and
Taylor Cravanas; two sister-in-laws; Jewel
Pharris and Gladys Grant of Georgetown,
Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday
December 13, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Woodhead
Funeral Home in Falmouth, Ky., with Rev.
William Hinton, Jr. officiating assisted by
Rev. Harry Crozier. Visitation will be on
Friday December 12 from 7-9 p.m. at Woodhead
Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Gary,
Skip and Ronnie Allen, David and Danny
Hinton and Roger Jenkins.
Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery
in Falmouth, Ky.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the
American Heart Association.
Jane Foss, 83,
of Highland Heights, Ky., passed away on
Thursday December 4, 2003 at The Lexington
County Place, Lexington, Ky. She was a
retired Bank Manager at The Bank of
Alexandria, Ky., she was the daughter of the
late Dr. David Yandall Ragan and Rebekah
Ragan of Cold Spring, Ky., the wife of the
late Charles Foss.
Survivors include her son, William Griffin,
Alexandria, Ky.; daughter Pat Childres,
Lexington, Ky.; brother George W. Ragan,
Cold Spring, Ky., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday
December 8, 2003 at 1 p.m. at The Asbury
Methodist Church, Highland Heights, Ky.
Interment took place in The Floral Hills
Cemetery, Taylor Mill, Ky.
Memorials are suggested to The Hospice of
The Bluegrass 2312 Alex. Pike, Lexington,
Ky. 40501 or to The Shriners Burns
Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Verdie Tipton,
79, of Highland Heights, Ky., passed away on
Thursday December 4, 2003 at The N. Ky.
Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights,
Ky., she was a kitchen employee of The
Beverly Hills Club, Southgate, Ky.
Survivors include daughters; Sally Smith,
Highland Heights, Ky., Patricia Harris,
Indiana-polis, Indiana, Barbara Carney,
South Carolina, son; David Tipton,
Alexandria, Ky., thirteen grandchildren,
seventeen great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
Services were held at 12 noon on Monday, at
The Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky.
Interment took place in The Floral Hills
Cemetery, Taylor Mill, Ky.
Tom Nichols Jr.,
42, of Southgate, Ky., passed away on
Thursday December 4, 2003 at The St. Luke
East Hospital, Fort Thomas, Ky. He was
disabled, the son of the late Beulah Nichols
who passed away on October 28, 1981.
Survivors include his father, Tom Nichols
Sr., Highland Heights, Ky., one son, Thomas
Brandon Nichols, Covington, Ky., one sister
Darlene Compton, also of Covington, Ky.,
three brothers; Lloyd Compton, Dayton, Ky.,
Art Nichols, Cincinnatio, Ohio and Tracy
Nichols, Erlanger, Ky.
Services will be held on Tuesday December 9,
at 8 p.m. at The Cooper Funeral Home, Grants
Lick, Ky.
Interment will be in The Peach Grove
Cemetery, Peach Grove, Ky.
Velma Agnes
Bishop, 94, of Florence, formerly of
Falmouth, passed away on Thursday December
4, 2003, at the St. Luke Hospital West in
Florence. Born on August 4, 1909 in
Pendleton County, Kentucky, she was the
daughter of the late James Wadsworth and
Flavie Sharon Smith. She was preceded in
death by her husbands, William W. DeArmond
on May 31, 1969 and Everett Bishop on July
20, 1984, and her brothers, Edward and
Howard Smith, and her sisters; Nancy
Schneider, Stella Fardo, Viola Paynter, Mary
Adair and Dorothy Cookendorfer.
She fondly remembered working to feed the
soldiers at Camp Atterberry in Indianapolis,
Indiana, she had also worked handling eggs
for the Farm Bureau Insurance Agency,
housekeeping for Loraine Hotel, and
operating a rooming house, all in
Indianapolis, Indiana. She was also a member
of the Mt. Moriah Christian Church,
Pendleton County.
Survivors include; daughter, Flavie Elmore
of Florence, with whom she lived , three
step-children; Doyne Hartman, Cayuga,
Indiana, Doris DeArmond, Clinton, Indiana,
Dick Bishop, Falmouth, Ky., two
grandchildren; Miranda and William Elmore;
fifteen step grandchildren, several
great-grandchildren, and many nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on
Sunday December 7, 2003 at the Woodhead
Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Rev. John N.
Elmore officiating. Casket bearers were
Larry, Jeffrey, and Kevin Vanlanding-ham,
Dick and Rick Bishop, and William Elmore.
Music was shared by Gerald Stephenson and
Randy Wallace.
Interment took place in the Bethel Cemetery,
Butler, Ky.

Clarence Bauer,
67, of Maysville, passed away on Tuesday
December 2, 2003 at Meadowview Regional
Medical Center of complications from cancer.
He was born on August 24, 1936 the late
Augustine Augustus and Edith Case Bauer.
He was preceded in death by his sister,
Teresa Skidmore and brothers, Donald, Joe
and Danny Bauer.
He was an avid hunter, bingo player and
wildlife enthusiast. He was a member of the
Germantown United Methodist Church and a
veteran of the U.S. Army, the beloved
husband of Diana Jolley Bauer, his wife of
21 years, the devoted father of Violet
(Clay) Hedgecock, Germantown, Ky., Lois
(Danny) Wheeler, Cindy (Mole) Gentry, and
Christy (Efraim) Rosen-baum, all of
Maysville.
Other survivors include his grandchildren:
Amber Bauer, Lola Gentry, Josh Wheeler and
also Nicholas, Randi, Levi, and Alex
Rosenbaum, brothers; Augustus (Jerry Ann)
Bauer, Jr., Minerve, Charles (Judy) Bauer,
Maysville, sister; Emma (Ronnie) Hord,
Rectorville. He is also survived by numerous
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday December 6, 2003 at the Germantown
United Methodist Church. Palmer Funeral
Home, Germantown served the family.
Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick
School, the American Cancer Society or the
Maysville VFW.
Jerry
Mitchell Waters, 41, of Dayton, Ky.,
passed away on Tuesday December 2, 2003 at
his residence. He was a self employed
construction worker.
Survivors include his mother Patricia Jessee,
Dayton, Ky., one daughter Christina Smith,
Cincinnati, Ohio, one sister, Jennifer
Waters, Dayton, Ky. and one grandson.
Funeral services were held on Friday
December 5, at 8 p.m. at The Cooper Funeral
Home.

Randall Lee
Bowen, 82, of Demossville, passed
away on Wednesday December 10, 2003, at his
home. Born on March 30, 1921 in Pendleton
County, he was the son of the late James
Columbus and Mary Katherine Mangold Bowen.
He married Geneva Pearl Donahue Bowen on
October 24, 1945, and his dear wife survives
his passing. He was a well-known Pendleton
County farmer and carpenter, for many years
he was a valued employee in the Produce
Department of Wyatt's Super Valu, Falmouth,
a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist
Church for over 60 years, where he had been
active with Sunday school and Discipleship
Programs, for over 25 years, he and his wife
Geneva, had maintained the church.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, Geneva,
he leaves seven children: Mary Lou (Carl)
Gray, Williamstown, Teddie (Gail) Bowen,
Freddie (Sharon) Bowen, Dollie (Clinton)
Gray, Eddie Bowen, Tim (Becky) Bowen all of
Demossville, and Randall (Velma) Bowen Jr.,
of Dry Ridge. Grandchildren: Melissa York,
Stacy Gray, Greg Bowen, Amber Burgemeir,
Chad Bowen, Amy Shoemaker, Aaron Bowen,
Lindsay Bowen, Charity Gray, Erin Bowen,
Dustin Bowen, Kyle Bowen, and Mikayla Bowen;
great-grandchildren, Hailey York, Mary Kate
Shoemaker, Molly and Maggie Burgemeir, Zak
Bowen, and Tucker Gray; brothers: George
Bowen and Bernard Bowen both of Demossville
and a host of nieces and nephews, and
friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday,
December 14, 2003 at the Woodhead Funeral
Home, Falmouth, with Rev. Chad Quick
officiating, also shared the music. The
pallbearers were his grandsons: Stacy Gray,
Greg Bowen, Chad Bowen, Aaron Bowen, Dustin
Bowen, and Kyle Bowen. The honorary
pallbearers were Brian Burgemeir, Mitchell
“Micky” Shoemaker, Danny York, Bobby Straub,
and Mark Dressman.
Interment took place in the Pleasant Ridge
Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Lucy Roseberry
, 94, of
Menzie Bottoms Road, Butler, passed away on
Sunday December 14, 2003 at the St. Luke
Hospital East. Lucy was born in Ky on
January 7, 1909, she was the daughter of
Thomas and Emma Lawson, a charter member of
Fairlane Baptist Church, she worked at the
Grants Lick Elementary School lunch room,
and was retired from the D.A.V. She married
Frank Roseberry whom passed on December 22,
1959. She was preceded in death by her son
Albert Roseberry and daughter Mary Jackson.
Survivors include: sons, Elmer Roseberry,
Butler, Ky., Alan Roseberry, Independence,
Ky.; daughter, Dorothy Montgomery Jackson,
Grants Lick, Ky.; brothers, Donald Lawson,
Florence, Ky., Allie Lawson, Covington, Ky.;
sisters, Velma Walthers, Ellenton, Fla.,
Lillian Nazi, Taylor Mill Ky., Minnie
Roseberry, Butler, Ky.; nineteen
grandchildren, thirty four
great-grandchildren, three
great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Thursday December 18,
2003 at the Fairlane Baptist Church under
the direction of Peoples Funeral Home,
Grants Lick, Ky.
Interment took place in the Oakland
Cemetery, Grants Lick, Ky.
Lola Mae
Sacra Berardi, 89, of Butler, Ky.,
formerly of Louisville and Lexington, Ky.,
passed away on Saturday December 13, 2003 at
River Valley Nursing Home, Butler, Ky., born
in Lexington, Ky. on August 15, 1914 she was
the daughter of John and Vinnie Sacra, she
was a waitress at the Campbell House
Restaurant and Golden Horseshoe in
Lexington, Ky. She was a member of Clifton
Heights Christian Church, Louisville, Ky.,
she was preceded in death by two sons in
infancy, four sisters and one brother.
Survivors include her husband, Donald
Berardi, Louisville, Ky., sons: Robert M.
Ockerman, North Port, Fla., Gary W. Ockerman,
Park City, Ill. and William R. Ockerman,
Butler, Ky. three grandchildren: Lisa
Arnold, Falmouth, Ky. Sheila Ullrich,
Naples, Fla., Billie Jean Ockerman, Ft.
Thomas, Ky., and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday
December 16, 2003 at Peoples Funeral Home,
Falmouth, Ky.

Kimberly Kay (Doyle) Cooper, 43, of
Augusta, passed away on Saturday December 6,
2003 at Meadowview Reg. Med. Center in
Maysville, Ky.
She served as Payroll Specialist for Emerson
Power Transmission, a member of Germantown
United Methodist and Germantown Brite Siders
Homemakers. She married Roby Cooper on June
24, 1978 and he survives her passing. She
was born on January 12, 1960 in Maysville,
Ky., the daughter of the late William
“Billy” Doyle, whom passed on January 17,
2001, and Mary Ann (Jefferson) Doyle of
Germantown.
Additional survivors include her daughter
Tabitha (Stevie) Sorrell, Germantown, Ky,
and a grandson, Logan Thomas Sorrell.
Services were held on Wed-nesday December
10, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Palmer Funeral Home,
Germantown, Ky.
Interment took place in the Maple Grove
Cemetery, Germantown, Ky.

Daniel, Jr., 82, of California, Ky.,
passed away on Sunday December 14, 2003. He
was a retired rigger for Interlake Steel,
Newport, Ky., a senior Deacon at The Flag
Springs Baptist Church, California, Ky. He
was a WWII Marine.
Survivors include: his wife, Marion Daniel,
daughters: Brenda White and Wanda Wanner,
both of California, son: Tom Daniel,
Alexandria, sister: Genevieve Daniel, North
Carolina, eight grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday December 17, 2003 at The Cooper
Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky. Visitation
will be 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday December 16,
2003 at The Cooper Funeral Home, Grants
Lick.
Interment will take place at The Floral
Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill, Ky.
