Alfred C. Smiley,
74, of Georgetown, passed away Sunday, March
23, 2003 at the VA Hospital in Lexington.
He was a retired self employed mechanic. He
was a United States Army veteran serving in
World War II.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral
Home in Berry.
Betty Ruth
Elliott, 72, of Falmouth, passed
away Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at St. Luke
Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.
She was born June 1, 1930 in Pendleton
County, daughter of the late Ben and Mary
Etta Craddock Martin. She married Wayne
Elliott on September 19, 1953 and her
husband survives her passing. She retired
from the former Sears Catalog Store in
Falmouth and she was a member of the Trinity
Southern Baptist Church in Falmouth.
She was preceded in death by nine siblings,
Edith Lorraine Martin, Fannie Irene Martin,
Mary Frances Reckers, Clara Katheryn Martin,
Esther Fern Hardin, Howard Edward Martin,
Lona Mae Voorhees, Bennie Martin Jr. and
Ruby Faye Martin and two half-brothers,
Floyd Craddock and Wilson Craddock.
In addition to her husband of 49 years,
Wayne Elliott, she leaves a daughter, Angela
Jones of Georgetown; two sons, Anthony
(Tony) Elliott of Falmouth and Mike Elliott
of Foster; nine grandchildren, Josh Elliott,
Dustin Elliott, Heather Elliott, Melissa
Elliott, Brittany Elliott, Felicia Cole,
Cody Cole, Zac Jones, and Samantha Simpson;
and three great-grandchildren, Kohl Lippert,
Kaden Elliott, and Iszac Jones.
Funeral services were Friday, March 14 at
Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Bro.
Bob Ice officiating. Pallbearers were Chris
Martin, Zac Jones, Bob Gulick, Barry Dennie,
Phil Bruin, Don Reckers, Gary Mofford, Jim
Hardin and Kyle Hardin.
Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery in
Falmouth.
Memorials are suggested to the Pendleton
County Public Library, 228 Main Street,
Falmouth, KY 41040.
General Stewart,
85, of Alexandria, passed away Tuesday,
March 18, 2003 at St. Luke Hospital East in
Ft. Thomas.
He was a retired carpenter with Norwood Sash
and Door Company. He was preceded in death
by his wife, Lila Stewart and two sons,
Billy Hollen and Carl Hollen.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty
Ellis, Anna Sue Turner and Olly Dean
Wortelboer, all of Alexandria, and Odie Hall
of California; a son, Bobby Ray Stewart of
Cold Spring; 16 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, March 21 at
Alexandria Funeral Home.
Interment was in Alexandria Cemetery.
Harold T. Whaley,
92, of Williamstown, passed away Tuesday,
March 18, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Medical
Center South in Edgewood.
He was born Sunday, November 13, 1910 in
Pendleton County, son of the late Virgil and
Lula Porter Whaley. He married Mildred
McClanahan Whaley, on January 4, 1932, whom
survives his passing. He was a retired
machinist. He worked for the Crawley Book
Machinery Company in Newport and Morris
Machine Tool Company. He was a member of the
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Grant County.
Besides his wife of 71 years, Mildred, other
survivors include a daughter, Anna Lou
Roland of Crittenden; a son, Gail T. Whaley
of Falmouth; a brother, Emerson Whaley of
Williamstown; two sisters, Ruth Simpson and
Fern Lucille Thompson, both of Williamstown;
four grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 22 at
Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in
Williamstown with Rev. Ronnie Angell and
Rev. Kelly Kennedy officiating.
Interment was in the Williamstown Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Carmel
Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o
Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 130,
Williamstown, KY 41097.
Hazel Wagner
Chatham, after residing in Mt.
Sinai, Indiana for nearly 56 years, passed
away Wednesday, March 19, 2003 in
Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mrs. Chatham, 78, was born in Pendleton
County on December 7, 1924, daughter of
William Wagner and Alma Miles Wagner, the
middle child of 11 born to them. She spent
her early years in Kentucky, moving to
Indiana at 17 years of age to make her home
there.In 1944, she married Adrian Chatham in
Jacksonville, Florida,
.Mrs. Chatham is survived by her husband of
59 years, Adrian Chatham; a son, Donald, of
Terre Haute; a daughter, Sharon, of
Massachusettes; two grandsons, Casey and
Nathan; a granddaughter, Abigail; four
sisters, Velma Powell, Aileen Hendy, Ruth
Mains and Mildred Golden, all of Northern
Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
Her six brothers, Bill Wagner, Charles
Wagner, Leslie Wagner, Herbert Wagner,
Marvin Wagner and John Wagner, all preceded
her in death.Funeral services were held at
First Baptist Church in Aurora. Pallbearers
were Paul Bearer, Casey Chatham, Nathan
Morean, Abigail Morean, Michael Andrew, Jeff
Andrew and Kenny Jackson Jr.
Interment was in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery in
Aurora, Indiana.
Mary
Elizabeth Powell, 85, of Foster,
passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003 at St.
Elizabeth Hospital North, Covington.
She was born on April 18, 1917, daughter of
the late Charlie and Gracie Whalen Turner.
She was a homemaker, valedictorian of
Sunrise High School Class of 1935, and had
been a member of Cemetery Chapel Christian
Church since 1957. She married Alva Powell
in 1936, who preceded her in death on
November 20, 1988.
Survivors include children, James (Shirley)
Powell of Germantown, Wilma Fay Skidmore of
Nicholasville and Neva Sue (Gene Dale) Moore
of Alexandria; six grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters,
Hildreth Lacey of Harrison, Ohio and Ida
Mildred Powell of Falmouth.
Funeral services were Wedneday, March 19 at
Cemetery Chapel Christian Church in Foster.
Interment was in the Lenoxburg Cemetery,
Foster.
