Ronald Dunn, 58, Butler

Ronald Lee Dunn, 58, of Butler, passed away at his home on Friday, April 30, 2004. The son of the late Oscar and Elizabeth Dunn. Retired from Black River Mine. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a crew member of USS Sumner County LST-1148. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby, Billy and Junior Dunn.
Survivors include: sons, Ronald Joseph Dunn, Cynthi-ana, Ky., Kenneth Lee Dunn, Butler, Ky., daughter, Tabitha Curtis, Dundee, Ill., sister, Janet Costigan, Butler, Ky., and five grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, May 3 at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler, Ky., with cremation taking place at Southwest Ohio Cremetory under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Butler,Ky.

 

Dorothy Jackson, 77, Grants Lick

Dorothy Roseberry Montgo-mery Jackson, 77, of Grants Lick, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, April 28, at her home. She was born in Ky., on August 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucy Lawson Roseberry. She was a member of the Fairlane Baptist Church and the Happy 100 Club, she married Melvin Montgomery on June 14, 1947, and he passed away on April 1, 1985, she then married Joe Jackson on October 3, 1986, and he passed away on July 18, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her brother Albert Roseberry and sister, Mary Jackson.
Survivors include: sons, Jam-es Montgomery, and David Montgomery, both of Falmouth, Ky., Richard Montgomery, Grants Lick, Ky., Marvin Mont-gomery, Butler, Ky., daughters, Carolyn Miller, Alexandria, Ky., Sandra (Sandy) Milton, Grants Lick, Ky., Theresa (Terry) Hollingshead, Falmouth, Ky., brothers, Elmer Roseberry, But-ler, Ky., Alan Roseberry, Indep-endence, Ky., sixteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday, May 1 at the Fairlane Baptist Church under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky.
Interment took place in the Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick, Ky.

Lois (McNees) Quindel 56, Illinois

Lois Carol McNees Quindel, 56 of Illinois, passed away on April 27, at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin Illinois of an apparent heart attack. She was born at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Cov-ington, Ky., on September 7, 1947, to Charles and Marjorie (Hiles) McNees, graduated from Falmouth High School, she later moved to Elgin Il. She was a Lab Technician at the Sherman Hospital in Elgin for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her father Charles in 1998.
Her coworkers could not praise Lois enough, they talked of how efficient she was and how kind and sweet to work with, one of the doctors said that when she was on the job you knew the job would be done correctly, they said she gave her all. She often stayed past her own shift when they were short on help. Her favorite hymn was Amazing Grace, she was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Elgin, Ill, her minister spoke well of her in his message, her nephew Steven Peed of Maysville, Ky., assisted with a story about his aunt and closed with a prayer. Several of Lois’s family made the trip to Illinois to be with the family. Pallbearers were, Randy Colvin, Kevin Colvin, Steven Peed, Douglas Ashcraft, Carl Colvin, Tommy Colvin and Steven D. NcNees. Lois will be sadly missed by all who knew her, she was such a joy and lots of fun to be with.
Survivors include: husband Gary Qunidel of 5 years, son Mark Bray of Belvidere, Ill., mother Marjorie McNees, Johnsville, Ky., sister, Connie Peed, Johnsville, brothers, Steve McNees, Elgin, Ill., and Rick McNees, Hampshire, Ill., also three nieces, two nephews, four aunts, many cousins, and a host of friends.
Interment took place in the Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin, Ill.

 

David Kramer, 52, Butler

David Allen Kramer Senior, 52, of Butler, Ky., passed away on Monday, May 10, 2004 at the St. Luke East Hospital. David was born on November 20, 1951, he was a member of the United States Army, he was also a Maintence Supervisor at the River Valley Nursing Home in Butler, Ky.
Survivors include: son, David Kramer, Jr., Butler, Ky., daughter, Lorelei Kramer, Falmouth, Ky., three grandchildren, Gunner, Stan and Sarah Froelicher.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, at the Peoples Funeral Home in Butler, Ky., with services being held at 7 p.m. the same day.

 

Phyllis Rumford, 52, Brooksville

Phyllis Rumford, 52, of Brooksville, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, May 4, at the UC Med Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on November 7, 1951, she retired from Dravo Lime, (Limestone Mine). She was the daughter of the late Kennon and Miranda Harney Dietrich, she married Herbert Lee Rumford Sr. on July 4, 1970 and he survives her passing.
Additional survivors include children, Tammy Rumford Williams, Brooksville, Miranda Rumford Peoples, Falmouth, Ky., and Herbert L. Rumford Jr., Brooksville, Ky., sisters, Margaret Frank, Brooksville, Ky., Marlene Day, Georgetown, Ohio., brothers, Frank Dietrich, Georgetown, Ohio., Marvin Dietrich, Mt. Orab, Monte Dietrich, Florida.
Services were held on Saturday, May 8 at Moore & Parker Funeral Home in Brooksville, Ky.
Interment took place in the Sharon Cemetery, Augusta, Ky.
Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association.

 

Erma Hughes, 85, Falmouth

Erma Kathryn Hughes, 85, of Falmouth, passed away on Saturday, May 8 at her home after an extended illness. She was born in Bracken Co., on April 21, 1919 a daughter of the late Robert and Carrie Fancher Huston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hughes on September 25, 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the Falmouth Baptist Church.
Survivors are: daughter, Cheryl (Delbert) York, Fal-mouth, Ky., and a grandson Brandon York, Perry, Georgia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11 at the Falmouth Baptist Church with Rev. Don Mays and Rev. George Naylor officiating. Music will be shared by Adarin Williams. Pallbearers for the service will be Winston York, Marion Courts, Russ Conrad, Darryl Sargent, Ralph “Skip” Taylor, and J.W. McKinney.
Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Falmouth Baptist Church or Hospice of Hope; 909 Kenton Station Road, Maysville, Ky.

 

Allan Monroe, 60, Butler

Allan Robert Monroe, 60, of Butler, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, May 4, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, South in Edge-wood, Ky. He was a veteran truck driver for 30 years.
Survivors include: sons, Todd Monroe, Georgetown, Ky., Jeremy and Matthew Monroe both of Northern Kentucky, brothers, David Monroe, Heb-ron, Ky., (half-brother), Guy Howard, Lexington, Ky., sisters, Debbie Maurer, Cincinnati, Linda Lourash, Decatur, and dear friend, Alma Bray, Butler, Ky.
Services were held on Wed-nesday, May 5, at the Linne-mann Funeral Home, Covin-gton, Ky.
Interment took place in the Winchester Cemetery, Win-chester, Ky.

Michael Wiggins, 21, Demossville

Michael S. Wiggins, 21, of Demossville, Ky., passed away on Monday May 10, 2004 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, he was born in Harrison County on June 10, 1982, the son of David Wiggins, of Demossville and Lisa Wiggins of Alexandria, and Candy Frost and they all survive his passing.
Additional survivors include, brother, Hunter Wiggins at home, sisters, Katie and Brooke Wiggins, both at home, grandparents Philip and Janis Kay Wiggins, Falmouth, Ky., Mike and Karen Frost, State of Washington, Noel and JoAnn Trout, Cold Spring, Ky., Uncles, Brian Wiggins, Jim Trout and Dan Trout.
Services were held on Sunday May 16 at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth, Ky.
Interment took place in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Butler, Ky.

Mary Kirk, 79, Indianapolis

Mary Hanna Kirk, 79, of Indianapolis, Ind, formerly of Falmouth, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2004. She was born on May 15, 1924, a daughter of the late Lee Crozier and Carrie Maude Ayres.
Survivors include: daughter, Anna K. Ferguson, grandson, Robert S. Ferguson, three sister-in-laws, Estella Butler, Lela Crozier, Rose Crozier and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Monday, May 17 at the Robinson Community A.M.E. Church in Indianapolis, Ind, with Rev. Teresa Thomas officiating. Music was shared by Charlene Rhoades.
Pallbearers for the service were Gary Allen, Ronnie Allen, David Crozier, Johnathan Crozier, Carl Mitchell, and Ralph Taylor Sr.
Interment took place in the Crown Hill Cemetery, India-napolis, Ind.

 

Elizabeth Rogers, 63, Ohio

Elizabeth (Betty) Rogers, 63, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at the Mercy Fransiscon Hospital in Cincinnati. Betty was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 9, 1941, the daughter of Elzie Baker and Lola Lynn Walls. She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Rogers, brothers, Lester, Charlie and Ethaley Walls, and a sister, Ellen Day.
Survivors include: sons, Glenn, Raymond and Hollis Rogers all of Cincinnati, Ohio, daughters, Lola Walls, Eubank, Ky., Betty Lee Rogers, Cincin-nati, Ohio, Theresa Rogers, Florida, brothers, Bill, Raymond and Hubert Walls all of Cincin-nati, Ohio, and Bobby Walls, Texas, sister, Oletha Walls, Falmouth, Ky. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18 at the Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth, with services being held at 2 p.m. after the visitation, also at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in the Butler Cemetery, Butler, Ky.

Barbara Tipton, 55, Alexandria

Barbara Jean Tipton, 55, of Alexandria, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, May 18, at the Highland Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Highland Heights. She was a homemaker and a member of The Old Time Holiness Church of God in Newport. She was preceded in death by one son, Jason Tipton in 1975.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Tipton, Alexandria, Ky., mother Nannabe Crank, Newport, Ky., two daughters, Trina Perkins, Alexandria, and Barbara Jo Tipton, Highland Heights, son Ray Tipton, Cold Spring, brother, Ronnie Adams, Highland Heights, six sisters, Lisa Adams, Highland Heights, JoAnn Curlington, Cincinnati, Jeanette Fields, Newport, Priscilla Adams, Erlanger, Marcella Adams, Bellevue, Judy Adams, Florence and nine grandchildren.
Services were held on Friday May 21 at the Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Interment took place in the Johns Hill Cemetery in Highland Heights, Ky.

 

Rev. Richard Fisher, 65, Ohio

Rev. Richard Elemuel Fisher, 65, of Ohio, formerly of Newport, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, at The Clermont Mercy Hospital in Batavia, Ohio.
He was a television minister for many years and did radio ministry and jail ministry. He was a member of The Apostolic Pentecostal Lighthouse, 210 Poplar Street, Bellevue, Ky.
Survivors include: Son, Jonathan Fisher, Bluefield West Virginia, daughters: Tammy Lynn Davidson, Virginia, Tammy Lynn Fisher, Hammers-ville, Ohio, and four grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday, May 22 at The Apostolic Pentecostal Light-house, Bellevue, Ky.
The Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky., was in charge of the burial arrangements.

Amanda Russell, 27, Butler

Amanda Russell, 27, of Butler, Ky., passed away on Sunday, May 23, at her home, she was born in Ft. Thomas, Ky., on November 19, 1976, the daughter of Mike and Trena Kidwell Roberts, and the wife of Tony Russell, married on July 14, 2000. Her parents and husband survive her passing.
Additional survivors include: brother, Keith Roberts, Indepen-dence, Ky., sister, Angela Works, Ft. Thomas, Ky., grandmothers, Delcie Roberts and Viola Kidwell, both of Butler, Ky., mother and father-in-law, David Gordon Russell and Lucille Russell, Dayton, Ky., brother-in-law, William Russell, Dayton, Ky., several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.
Services were held on May 27, at the Peoples Funeral Home, Butler, Ky.
Interment took place in the Butler Cemetery, Butler, Ky

 

Roger Yates, 58, Virginia

Roger L. Yates, 58, of Dryden Virginia, formerly of Cynthiana, Ky., passed away on Sunday, March 23 at his home. Born on March 2, 1946 in Clintwood, Virginia, he was a son of the late Jerry and Josephine Marshall Yates. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Yates. He married Linda An-derson Yates on November 5, 2003, and his dear wife survives his passing. He was a coal miner working for years in Virginia, he loved the outdoors-hiking, boating, fishing and camping.
In addition to his wife, Linda Yates, he is survived by one brother, Tony Yates, Pennington Gap, Va., four sisters, Loretta Gail Smith, Coeburn, Va., Glenda L. Ellis, Rita Jean Hale, and Lisa Kennedy all of Clenchport, Va., four step children: Krystal Anderson, Robert Anderson, and Christopher Bell all of Georgetown, Ky., Shaun Anderson, Cynthiana, Ky., five step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Friday, March 28 at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry, with Rev. Larry Lee Jones officiating.
Interment took place in the Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.

 

Zelma Ferguson, 69, Walton

Zelma Marie “Mee Maw” Ferguson, 69, of Walton, Ky., passed away on Monday, May 24 at Good Samaritian Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a homemaker and retired owner of Fergie’s Restaurant, Walton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Ferguson in 1994.
Survivors include: son, Mike Ferguson, Walton, Ky., brother, Tommy Biddle, Sunrise, Ky., sisters, Betty Smith, Falmouth, Ky., Brenda Eckler, Paris, Ky., Toni Templeton, Cynthiana, Ky., two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held on May 26 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton.
Interment took place in the Floral Hills, Covington.
Memorials are suggested to National Kidney Foundation.

Daisy Polanski, 70, Falmouth

Daisy M. Polanski, 70, of Falmouth, Ky., passed away on Thursday, May 27 at her home, she was born in Perry County, Ky. on April 8, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Arch and Rhoda Jane (Caudill) Spencer. Daisy worked at Cincinnati Gas and Electric in the Building Services Department.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Monroe, Glenn Taylor, and Berse Spencer, and her sisters, Eunice Combs, Lula Grubbs, Mary, Peggy, and Denver Spencer.
Survivors include, son, Alan Polanski, New Jersey, daughters, Mindy Miller, Mason Ohio, Jeannie Tate, Falmouth, Ky., Sheila Polanski and Cindy Mejias both of New Jersey, sisters, Joby Noble, Florence, Ky., Martha Holiday, Bromley, Ky., Rosalee Hall, Middlesboro, Ky., seven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, June 1 at the Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky.
Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery.

Robert Colemire, 60, Covington

Robert Leon Cole-mire, 60, of Covington, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, June 2, in Kenton, County. He was born in Bracken County on January 14, 1944, the son of the late Everett and Ida Mae Rudd Colemire. He served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Cecil and Herb Colemire.
Survivors include sister, his son Bobby Dale Colemire, sister, Carolyn Colemire Lea, Falmouth, Ky., brothers, Ronald Colemire, Alexandria, Ky., Hansel Colemire, Brooksville, Ky., Larry Colemire, Scottsdale, Az.
Services took place on Monday, June 7, at Moore & Parker Funeral Home in Brooksville, Ky.
Interment took place in the Oakland Cemetery.

Kirk Graves, 47, Morehead

Kirk “Butchie” Graves, 47, of Morehead, Ky., passed away on Thursday, June 3, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Ky., he was born in Falmouth, Ky., on November 26, 1956, the son of Sylvia Graves of Falmouth, Ky.
Survivors include his mother, Sylvia Graves, Falmouth, Ky., brothers, Greg Miller, Terry Warner and Jeffrey Graves all of Falmouth, Ky.
Services were held on Monday, June 7, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Falmouth, Ky., under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky.
Interment took place in the Cresent Hill Cemetery, Falmouth, Ky.

Elizabeth Gunckle, 82, Newport

Elizabeth Gunckle, 82, of Newport, passed away on May 4 at Highland Heights Care and Rehabilitaion Center, she was a homemaker. She was receded in death by her husband Willian Gunckle.
Survivors include, daughter, Harriet Scherrer, Falmouth, Ky., son William Gunkle, Newport, Ky., brother John Beal, Newport, Ky., Lawrence Beal, Portsmouth, Ohio, and Harry Beal, Selma, Ind., sisters Rosemary Girdler, Cincinnati, and Suda Faulkerson, Newport, Ky. Seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Roseina Bruin, 91, Cynthiana

Roseina Mains Bruin, 91 of Cynthiana, formerly of Falmouth, passed away on Sunday, June 13, at the Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana. Roseina was born in Pendleton County, Ky., on April 13, 1913. She was the daughter of Charlie and Capitola Cooper Mains, and a member of the Antioch Mills Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Bruin, daughter, Cora Mae Colvin, brothers, Shelby and Hansel Mains, and sister, Alberta Gallagher.
Survivors include, sons, L.W. and Shelby Bruin, both of Falmouth, Ky., daughters, Rubye L. Cooper, Berry, Ky., Naomi Teegarden, Falmouth, Ky. A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15 at the Peoples Funeral Home-Fal-mouth, Ky.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, also at the funeral home. Officiating ministers were Bro. Bill Wilson and Bro. Chad Doerr. Pallbearers: Charles L. and Rodney L. Cooper, Terry L. Lonaker, Richard D., Robert W., and Bradley Bruin. Honorary pallbearers: David Bruin, Craig Schlueter, Kristen Schlueter, Sonny Lonaker, Timothy D. and Charles E. Cooper.
Interment will take place in Bracken Memorial, Brooksville, Ky.

Roseina Bruin, 91, Cynthiana

Roseina Mains Bruin, 91 of Cynthiana, formerly of Fal-mouth, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana. Barbara Sammons, 53, Falmouth

Barbara Ann Sammons, 53, Falmouth, passed away on Saturday, June 5, at her home. Barbara was born in Campbell County Tennessee on June 15, 1950. She was the daughter of Virgil and Barbara (Baird) Clark.
Survivors include: brother, James Sears, Ohio, sisters, Dorothy Trent, Ohio, Victoria Sears, nieces, Gina and Serena Guthridge, both of Falmouth, Ky., nephew, James Sears, Falmouth, Ky.
A Memorial Service was held on Friday June 11, 2004 at the Riverside Cemetery in Falmouth, under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home.

Milford H. Neal, 81, Demossville

Milford Hayden Neal, 81, of Demossville, Ky., passed away on Saturday June 19, 2004 at his home. Hayden was born in Pendleton County on April 29, 1923, the son of the late Herbert and Emma Wynn Neal. He was a farmer, retired from Kahn’s in Spring Grove, Ohio, president of the Mt. Moriah Cemetery for many years, Grassy Creek Christian Church. He married Joyce LaFollette Neal on June 22, 1957, and she survives his passing.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Ray Neal, sisters, Ann Wickelhaus and Mary Neal.
Additional survivors include: son, Roger Neal, Demossville, Ky., daughters, Debbie (Jim) Shoemaker, and Karen Neal both of Demossville, Ky., sister, Edna Smith, Menifee Co., Ky., three grandchildren, Erik, Meri-deth and Kenton Shoemaker.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 22, from 4-8 p.m. at Peo-ples Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky.

Archie Lawson, 78, Falmouth

Archie Earl Lawson, 78, of Falmouth, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2004 at the St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas, Ky. Born on June 12, 1926 in Pendleton County, Ky., he was the son of the late John W. and Rose Hess Lawson. He married Mary Elizabeth Thorn-berry Lawson on February 8, 1947 and his dear wife survives his passing. He worked as a farmer and as a steel worker with Keegler, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by three children: Helen Law-son Riley, February 23, 2003, and two infant sons: Wayne and John Lawson and his grandson, Danny Eaton, May 13, 2002, five brothers: John, Roy, Amos, and Henry Lawson, and Russell Haley, and one sister, Laura Johnting.
In addition to his wife, Mary Elizabeth Lawson, he leaves four children: Larry Lawson, Ronnie Lawson, Arlene Fodor and Sylbina Traylor, all of Pendleton County; nineteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, three sisters, Anna Mae Gunsayle, Margaret Straub, and Geneva Shoemaker all of Pendleton County, Ky., one brother, Carl Lawson of Pendleton County, Ky.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Bro. Darrell Breeden officiating. The pallbearers will be Buddy Allen Eaton, Brian Lawson, Charlie Eaton, James Lawson, Hunter Lawson, and Emile Fodor. The visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Stanley Yelton, 77, of Cynthiana, Ky., formerly of Falmouth, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana, Ky. Stanley was born in Pendleton County, Ky., on February 8, 1927, he was the son of Arthur and Ellen Carter Yelton. He was a member of the Falmouth Christian Church, retired from the United States Army and from the Kentucky State Highway Department.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Edgar and Ralph Yelton, and sisters Hattie Lonaker and Ruth Maywood.
Survivors include: son, Robert Orme, St. Petersburg, Fla.,bro-ther, Paul Yelton, Walkerton, Ind., sisters, Mildred McKinley, Frances Lucille Yelton both of Falmouth, Lenora Justice, La-Porte, Ind., Margaret Dorman, Luna Pier, Mich.

Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery, under full military honors.

James William McCown, 91, of Cynthiana, Ky., passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2004 at The St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, Ky. He was a Railroader for The L&N Railroad, the husband of the late Lucy McCown, who passed away in 1985. He liked to hunt, do garden work and he raised tobacco.
Survivors include: sons, Rev. James R. McCown, Fort Mit-chell, Ky., Jack McCown, Cyn-thiana, Ky., Daniel McCown, Newport, Ky., brother, Joseph Andrew McCown, Martinsburg, West Virginia, twelve grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.

He was a Master Mason with the Alexandria Lodge #152, Alexandria, Ky., a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #337, Alexandria, Ky. Past Associate Grand Guardian of Job’s Daughters of Kentucky, he was also in the Army. The son of Donald and Coletta (nee Cox) Stahl.
Survivors include: wife, Phoebe M. John (Dave) Barnett, 49, Falmouth

John David (Dave) Barnett, 49 of Falmouth, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in Cincin-nati, Ohio on April 11, 1955. Dave was an employee at Anderson Equipment Co. in Falmouth. Mr. Barnett was a dedicated volunteer with the Pendleton County Emergency Management where he served as treasurer and served as the Technical Support for the computers and communications. He worked many hours making sure the computers were programed correctly and did all the set up, networking, etc. on them, plus other things that needed to be handled. He worked on computers at home for businesses in the county. He was a member of the Kincaid Bassmasters and worked for the past 15 years helping with the Joey Wells Memorial Kids Fishing tournament. Dave and his son, Mike, worked in and later opened the distribution center at the Pen-dleton County Fairgrounds during the Flood of 1997 in Pend-leton County. They worked handing out food, cleaning supplies, water and clothing to residents that were in the flood. He was preceded in death by his mother Sylvia Miller Barnett. He married Deborah Ramsey Barnett and his dear wife survives his passing.
Additional survivors include: son, Michael Stephen and daughter Jessica Grace Barnett, Alexandria, Ky., granddaughter, Haley Jane Barnett, he also leaves behind a host of wonderful friends and neighbors.
Services were held on Friday, July 2, 2004 at the Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth, Ky. Pallbearers were, Craig Peoples, Henry Whalen, John Richa-rdson, Robert Bruin, A.J. Rose-berry and David Haley.
Interment took place in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Dave will always be remembered in our hearts as a caring and giving person. Because of this, the Barnett family decided that it would be appropriate to donate his organs to help other people.

Mary Murphy, 69, Berry

Mary Katherine Murphy, 69, of Berry, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana after a long battle with lung disease. Born on July 11, 1934 in Lincoln County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Moore Leach. She married Eugene Murphy on December 8, 1954, and her dear husband survives her passing. She was a homemaker and member of the Methodist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Leroy Murphy.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, Eugene Murphy, she is survived by eight children: Patricia North, Cynthiana, Ky., Linda Stanfield, Lake City, Fla., Rosella Slade, Cynthiana, Ky., Brenda Murphy Crapps, Lake City, Fla., Johnny and Tony Murphy, both of Berry, Ky., Daniel Murphy, Springfield, Tenn., and Hope Murphy White, Berry, Ky., thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother, Arnold Leach of Kings Mountain, Ky., and two sisters, Cora Rayborn and Christine Rolland, both of Kings Mountain, Ky.
Services were held on July 3, 2004, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry, with Bro. Jeff Fain officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Tony, Johnny, Daniel, and Shannon Murphy, Jesse James, Jason Slade and Brandon North. The honorary pallbearers were Gary White, Dale North, Billy Slade, Clyde Stanfield, George Crapps, Danny Bowen, and Randy Rayborn.
Interment took place in the Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry, Ky.

Harold Newkirk, 74, Falmouth

Harold Newkirk, 74, of Fishing Creek Road, Falmouth, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2004, at the St. Elizabeth South Hospital in Edgewood, Ky. He was born on April 7, 1930, son of the late Dora and Jessie Records Newkirk. He married Anna Mae Lodge on December 17, 1949 and his wife survives his passing. He was a farmer, carpenter, and former employee with Davey Tree Co., a member of Concord United Methodist Church, Pendleton County.
In addition to his wife Anna Mae, he leaves two sons, Harold Michael, and Allen Wayne, both of Falmouth, one daughter, Patricia Ann Newkirk, Fal-mouth, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and two sisters, Helen Stokes, Harrison, Ohio, Beulah West, Falmouth, Ky.
Services were held on July 10, 2004 at the Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth with Bro. Don Mays officiating. Music was beautifully offered by Adarin Williams. Casket bearers were: Roger Morehead, Jonathan Allen Newkirk, Matthew Lee Newkirk, Allen Wayne Newkirk, Bob Gossman and Mike Moore.
Interment took place in the Newkirk Cemetery at Kincaid Lake State Park.

Flossie King, 95, of Falmouth, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2004, at the Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown, Ky. Born on May 2, 1909 in Wayne County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late James F. Weaver and Bertha Mae Canada Weaver Holmes. She was a homemaker and a member of the Falmouth Baptist Church. A retired employee of Stop & Tell Restaurant in Falmouth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude King, and her brothers, James Hurl Weaver, Charles Weaver, and Herbert Weaver.
Survivors include her sister, Margaret Cooksey Harris of New Castle, Ind., brother, William F. Weaver, Ft. Worth, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held on July 15, 2004, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Rev. Don Mays officiating.

Larry Whalen, 57, Falmouth

Larry A. Whalen, Sr., 57, of Falmouth, Ky., passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2004 at his home, after a long battle with cancer. Larry was born in Pen-dleton County on October 5, 1946, the son of the late George Thomas and Lena McClanahan Whalen. He was born and passed away in the same house on Montjoy Street in Falmouth, Ky. Larry was a 1964 graduate of Falmouth High School, he was always very popular in school. He was a member of the Falmouth Baptist Church and in past years attended Willow Baptist Church, he was baptized by the late Rev. Carl Sears, after failing health, Larry retired from Sysco Food on a disability plan. He was preceded in death by his son Seth Allen Whalen on July 14, 1989, and sister Anna Marie Whalen Haley, on April 25, 1980.
Survivors include wife Ollie Geneva Lowery Whalen, Falmouth, Ky., sons, Jonathan Thomas Whalen, and Larry Allen Whalen Jr., both of Falmouth, Ky., daughter, Shanna Rae Whalen, Cynthiana, Ky., beloved step children, Tonya and Jeff Fugate, Amanda Hermann and Lucinda “Betty Jo” Hermann all of Falmouth, and Bill Hermann. A devoted and loving brother, Marvin Thomas Whalen and his wife Sue, of Cincinnati, Ohio, two grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren. He also leaves behind one aunt, Helen McClanahan Hamilton, Butler, Ky. Also surviving their dear cousin are twelve first cousins, one niece, and four nephews and a host of family members and friends.
Music was very important to Larry, it was in his blood. In high school he played in a rock and roll band called The Shipmates. He also had a band called “Whalen and Company.” Larry loved to work with wood, he could make just about anything. This was a talent handed down from his father, he loved to build and fly model airplanes. He loved to raise garden and can it’s harvest. His favorite Holiday was July 4, from the time he was a boy he loved to experience and create fireworks. Another favorite pastime and hobby when Larry was young was reading and collecting comic books. After graduating in 1964 Larry went to work for Mr. George Reed who owned a Heating and Cooling Company in Falmouth, Ky., he left that job and went to Cincinnati to work for the old Thomas Frozen Food Co., now Sysco. Larry will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Services were held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Peo-ples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Leon T. Robert and Daryl Fletcher, daughter, Patricia Copeland, brothers, Gyneth Jenkins Sr., and Jearl Jenkins.

George T. Steele of New York, passed away on June 26, 2004 at Park Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. He was born at Concord (Pendleton County) Kentucky. He was the son of the late Garnett and Beulah Steele, he was preceded in death by his wife Lyla, sister Carrie Holt, and four brothers, Desmond, Wayne, Ray and Floyd. George was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Corp. with 33 years of service, an Army Veteran, member of American Legion Post #468, and a member of the Crafts-man/Robertson Lodge #969.
Survivors include, daughters, Debra Allwood, Karen Herzog, and Margaret Swarts, all of Rochester, brother, Donald of Falmouth, Ky., seven grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Services were held at Bethany Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. James Todd and Rev. Alice McDowell.

He lived in Taylorsville with his wife of 61 years the former Elizabeth Vater. He was born on August 17, 1921 in Harrison County. Bro. Florence attended the one room Hopeful School in southern Campbell Co., and Butler High School in Pendleton Co. He graduated from the Southern Baptist College Megna Cum Loude, second highest in his class. At the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville he earned his Master of Divinity degree. For 45 years he was a pastor in Kentucky plus three years as a missionary in Colombia, South America. The churches he pastored were Ken-Boo Baptist in Florence, Lynn Acres Baptist (12 1/2 years), Ormesby Ave. Baptist and Yorktown Baptist in Louisville. He also pastored the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Willisburg and First Baptist Church of Tompkinsville. He was pastor of the First Baptist Church, Cold Spring for six years before he had to retire for health reasons in 1982. Serving as a machine gun section leader in France during WWII he was captured and held prisoner for several months. Released by the Russ-ians, he and his comrades were forced to walk 1500 miles through Poland and Russia to the port city of Odessa, Russia where Americans met them. From this war his medals include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star plus a citation for acting as a lay chaplain in the prison camp and preaching each Sunday to the more than 1,000 men in Staleg III C.
He wrote a book containing incidents and stories from his childhood entitled, “Hopeful Back To These Hills.” Frank was honored by being listed in “Whose Who in Kentucky” in 1966 and “Who’s Who in Religion” in 1966. His most recent honor was being chosen as the alumnus of the year for Pendleton Co. Schools in 1999. His picture and biographical plaque are on the wall in Pendleton Co. High School’s “Wall of Fame.”
Fifteen months ago Brother Florence was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was able to live at home until two months ago when his wife was no longer able to care for him and he was moved into a nursing home near by.
Besides his wife he is survived by three children, Terry Allen, English, Indiana, Linda French, Cox’s Creek, Ky., and Nancy Whittlock, Taylorsville, Ky., nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
The visitation will be Thursday, July 15, in the Grants Lick Baptist Church beginning at 11 a.m. with the Funeral immediately following at 2 p.m. (no evening visitation). Peoples Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Interment will take place in the Oakland Cemetery in Grants Lick.

Frank Allen Jr., 75, Falmouth

Frank “Les” Allen Jr., 75, of Falmouth, Ky., formerly of Oxford, Connecticut passed away on July 12, 2004 at the St. Elizabeth North Hospital. Les was born on June 4, 1929 to the late Frank Sr. and Olive (Christian) Allen. Les was a mechanical engineer with Uni-royal out of Naugaeuck Conn-ecticut. He was involved with the Boy Scouts as well as the Little League Baseball in Oxford, Connecticut, was a former 1st selectmen in Oxford. His wife of 53 years, June Allen survives his passing.
Survivors include: Sons, Dwight Allen, Falmouth, Ky., Gordon Allen, Milford, Kansas, daughter, Kim White, Foster, Ky., sisters, Jessie Fleming, Falmouth, Ky., Beverly Lineweber, Roxbury, Conn., five grandchildren, Scott Allen, Darcy Albers, Lyn Devoid, of Ky., and Paul and Timothy Allen of Milford, Kansas, great-grandchildren, Baylee and Jason Albers, Adaysa Devoid and Cammi Fetch. Several nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth.
Interment took place by Cremation.
Memorial contributions: In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations to honor his memory be made to The American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association at 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas TX 75231.

 

Ada Callen, 86, Milan

Ada Elizabeth Callen, 86, of Milan, Ind., passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Ripley Crossing in Milan, she was born on November 2, 1917 in Mason County, Ky., the daughter of Arnette Miles and Minnie Gladys (Johnson) Earles, she married Dewey Burlew, Carl Joseph Cline and later Robert Callen. She with Mr. Cline were owners/operators of the Koeng Hotel; later she worked at the Milan Ben Franklin Store. Mrs. Callen was a member of the St. Paul Luthern Church at Stumpke’s Corner and was a member of the Milan Senior Citizens. She was preceeded in death by nine brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include sons, Carl (Chipper) Cline of Milan, Roger Cline, Dillsboro, Dennis Callen, Burleson, Texas., Steve Callen, Milan, daughters, Barbara Shelton, Alexandria, Ky., Brenda Bowen, Demossville, Ky., Dianna Cline, Catskill, Ky., brothers, Charles and Herbert Cline both of Butler, Ky., seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. (Indiana time), Tuesday, July 20, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home at Milan. (812) 654-2141.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Fun-eral Home under the direction of Pastor, Richard Mackey.
Interment will take place in the Craven Cemetery, Milan, Ind.
Memorials can be made to Ripley Crossing, Rescue 30 or Ripley County Cancer Fund.

 

Gertrude Yelton, 95, Falmouth

Gertrude “Gertie” (Gillespie) Yelton, 95, of Falmouth, Ky., passed away on July 17, 2004 at Harrison County Memorial Hospital. Gertrude was born on May 23, 1909 to the late Christopher and Clara Haley Gillespie. She was a longstanding homemaker, and active member with Trinity Baptist Church, Falmouth, Ky., as well as an active member with Eastern Star of Pendleton County, Ky. She married William “Bill” Yelton and he preceeded her in death along with her brother Earl Gillespie and son William Yelton, Jr.
Survivors include, Bob Yelton, Butler, Ky., daughter, Geneva Field, Alexandria, Ky., Caroline Wright, Falmouth, Ky., ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Trinity Baptist Church under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky. A one hour visitation will be held at Trinity Baptist Church proceeding the Services.
Interment will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth, Ky.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be extended to Trinity Baptist Church.

 

Gertrude Yelton, 95, Falmouth

Gertrude “Gertie” (Gillespie) Yelton, 95, of Falmouth, Ky., passed away on July 17, 2004 at Harrison County Memorial Hospital. Gertrude was born on May 23, 1909 to the late Christopher and Clara Haley Gillespie. Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth, Ky.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be extended to Trinity Baptist Church.

Agnes Myrick, 69, Demossville

Agnes Straub Tolle Myrick, 69, of Demossville, Ky., passed away on July 17, 2004 at the St. Luke Hospital East. Agnes was born on Februsry 24, 1935 to the late Earl George Straub and Edna Florence Murphy. She was employed by Over Head Door Company for the past 25 years, an active member with Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by Helen Straub, and Heidi Kuhl.
Survivors include her husband, William Myrick, sons, Eugene Tolle, Brooksville, Ky., daughters, Bertha Artrip, Walton, Ky., step daughter, Patricia Kay Houseman of Tennessee, Cookie Gibson, Loveland, Ky., brothers, Earl Straub, Butler, Ky., Jimmy Straub, Dayton, Ohio, Frank Straub, Newport, Ky., sisters, Irene East, Cincinnati, Ohio, Stella Whitaker, Butler, Ky., Margaret McMillian, Bellevue, Ky., Alberta Powers, Dry Ridge, Ky., nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service was held on Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Chapel of Praise, Falmouth, Ky., with services following the same day under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Interment took place in the Butler Cemetery.

 

Vera Welz, 89, Ohio

Vera LaVonne (nee Mueller) Welz, 89, of Ohio, passed away on July 16, 2004. The beloved wife of the late William F. Welz, Jr., devoted mother of William Welz (Elaine P.) and Jill W. Benkert (Herschel), loving grandmother of Barry W. Benkert, Robyn L. Benkert and LaVonne L. McCord, great grandmother of Megan, Barry Jr., and Courtney Benkert, Patrick McCord and Caige Jacobs, dear sister of the late Vern Lee “Mickie” Parsons, sister-in-law of William Parsons and Beatrice Welz, best friend of Mariah Gardner.
Visitation on Tuesday, July 20, from 10-11 a.m. at the Westwood United Methodist Church Chapel, 3460 Epworth Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45211 where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Westwood United Methodist Church or Grant’s Lick Baptist Church, 941 Clay Ridge Road, Alexandria, KY 41001.
