This statement does not include the amounts involved in the two suits against Minor Colvin for taxes collected by him, in the suit in the Chancery Court for the taxes collected for the year 1877 the County has obtained two Judgments amounting to $1742.02 with interest from the 26th day of August 1879.  The suit in Circuit Court for the taxes collected for the year 1879, has not yet reached a judgment, but has been submitted on the report of the master commissioner to whom the case was referred.  The report of the Master Commissioner places Colvin's indebtedness for that year at something over $3600.  I have been unable to give the exact figures as Judge Boyd has the papers in the case.

The County also derives considerable revenue from the delinquent lists which under the present efficient management bring to the County over one thousand dollars per year.

On the other hand it will be seen that of the balance of assets stated above, amounting to the sum of $8786.95, the sum of $7581.23, being the amount of the Judgments against B.B. Mullins and J.M. Curry and sureties is still involved n the uncertain issues of a law suit.  I think too it extremely doubtful if anything is ever realized on the Judgment for $331.47 against the estate of John Wheeler.

There has as yet been no demand made on the fund raised by the Turnpike tax.  The County Court has subscribed to the Capital Stock of three companies aggregating about 21 miles of road, but up to this time none of the companies have compiled with the conditions nessary to enable them to draw their subscription.

January 13, 1881                          Respectfully
                                                  W.C. Holt

NOTE: These records have been transcribed from several different sources, either by us or by other researchers and provided as a starting point to assist you in your research; we've verified as many as we could, but be aware that there may be errors (either mis-spellings on the original records, almost illegible writing on the records, and/or typing errors on my part), so make sure to double check them prior to assuming they're "the gospel truth". We will never deliberately include erroneous information in any part of this site.

These records have not been copied by either of this site's coordinators from other sites, as has been implied by some. Sources have included records from the E. E.
