3.  THOMAS2 BRUMMETT (UNKNOWN1) was born November 6, 1753 in Franklin County, Virginia, and died November 11, 1842 in Anderson County, Tennessee.  He married MARY R. BURRIS May 17, 1793 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee.  She was born Abt. 1766, and died November 6, 1847.

 

Notes for THOMAS BRUMMETT:

Thomas fought as a private in Posey's Virginia Regiment.

Enlisted 1777 10th Va. Regiment Served 3 years. His application for a

pension dated 16 Oct. 1818 age 64 years, states that he enlisted in 1777

in the VA. 10th Regiment under Captain Cliff Shelton.  He was in the

battle of

Brandywine, Guilford Courthouse, & others.  After 3 Years, he was

discharged at Philadelphia.  He was admitted on the pension rolls Oct.

17, 1818.  Mary Brummett, his widow, applied July 1838.  An affidavit by

an Alfred Smith of Mt. Vernon, Rockcastls County Ky., states that Thomas

Brummett died in Anderson County Tn. November 1842, and Mary died

November 1847.

Thomas Brummett was ceded 200 acres within the western territory of North

Carolina in 1787. This could have been in the area that was later to be

Tennessee! So he may not have been in what we think of as N. C. today.

Last Will & Testament of William Brummett,  dec'd

I, WILLIAM BRUMMETT,  do make and publish this as my last will and

testament,  hereby revoking and making void all other wills by me at any

time made.  First I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be

paid as soon after my death as possible out of any money that I die

possessed of or may first come into the hands of my Executors.  Secondly

I give and bequeath to my wife PATSY BRUMMETT one Gray mare and colt,

three cows and calves,  twenty head of Hogs of her own Choosing,

thirteen head of sheep,  thirty head of Geese,  one big pot,  one small

pot and flat oven and lid,  one set of dog Irons,  with all the House

hold and Kitchen furniture,  and also my wife PATSY BRUMMETT is to have

the land I now live on her life time and after her death the land is to

be sold at the Hyest bider for cash on a Twelve months credit then the

money equally divided amongst all my named Children ELZIRA, PAYTON, JOAB,

GINARY, PRESTON, HENRY, GEORGE, JOHN, WILLIAM, MARGET, CALVIN, LUCY,

ALEY, BANER, HUGH L. AND SURRELDY, and also the the ballance of the

property to be sold at Twelve months credit and the money to be equally

divided between the first named children, I do hereby nominate and

appoint ALEXANDER TURNER and my wife PATSEY BRUMMETT my Executors.  In

witness whereof I do to this my will set my hand and seal this 21st day

of April 1840.

was near Ky. line). William lived a long time near Williamsburg Ky. or

Tn. and in Anderson County Tn.

Brummett's All show's he was 85 at his death. This means he was born in

1755. He may be buried in Whitley County,Ky. Unable to find in Anderson

County Tn Cemetery listings.

William Brummett member of 10th Va. Regiment, served during 1777-1778 in

Revolutionary War. Served at Valley Forge & Trenton---With brother Thomas.

There is a deed dated Mach 7, 1846 in which Calvin, Alice, Banner,

Preston, Hugh, Payton and Surreldy deeded 200 acres of land which had

belonged to William Brummett, deceased, to Thomas Washan of Anderson

County. The deed was not registered until 1855.

Notes for JAMES A. BRUMMETT:

James A. Brummett was a Baptist Preacher and lived in the area known as Marlow. He was killed near the end of the Civil War. Jasper Smith wrote, "Uncle Jim Brummett while sitting in his home feeding a child on his lap, an unknown man entered the room, poked a pistol in his side an shot him dead. He was buried in the Walker Long Cemetery in Dutch Valley".
