Notes for Martha UNK Possibly Gouldman:

I have part of a copy of the Thomas Gouldman family of Essex County and some of his descendants, compiled by Helen Kay Yates(Mrs. S. Wirt Yates).  This was copied from the files of the Daughters of American Revolution in Washington, DC

part of it is missing because the copier only copied pages 1 thru 8 and then

skipped to page 15 because they were the pages that related to my family.

I did find that Francis Gouldman was married to someone named Winifred and they had the following children: Thomas, Edward, Robert, Richard, Francis, jr,(born about 1735) Elizabeth, Frances, Molly, Sarah (born about 1741) and Martha. This may be part of the info you need.  Hope you do not mind the email.  Let me know if you want a copy can snail mail to you do not have scanner, husband took it to work.  I have copy machine here at house.   Nancy

She is not married and it states that the lines of the 5 girls have not been

researched even though are married names of Elizabeth married Donohoe,

Frances married Patterson and Molly married a Domagin, Sarah and Martha are listed without any marriage note, but you may be able to trace through the other

names.  There are no dates except for the 2 I gave you so I do not know the order of birth.   My line is through Richard (6) who married Ann E Kay.  That is the reason I have the document.  Will send you a copy of the complete document.  I am in So. Calif.

Some or all of Jesse's children belong to Lyda or to Rachel.  Since we have no marriage date or death dates to find out when he and Rachel married, I have deduced that probably all of his children but possibly Charlotte were children of Lyda.

Notes for William Abney:

Parentage of Wm. Abney from Abney Archives

I have identified Pvt. William as a grandson of Paul ABNEY (bapt. 1699). This Paul's son has been

called William, but this is in dispute. This "William" married and had issue. Of his issue, one son,

William "Jr." is known to have married had issue. The reason that wife & issue of this William Jr.

hasn't been located, in my opinion, is because they were with Pvt. William in Tennessee! That

William "Jr." must be one and the same as Pvt. William who married the GRAVES sisters. Why

should I make this bold statement...because it was Paul's family that was in that part of Goochland

County which became Albemarle County, which became Amherst County. Paul's was the only

ABNEY Family known to have stayed there in Amherst. Pvt. William ABNEY & Milly GRAVES

were married on 19 Dec 1795 in Amherst County! More evidence...Paul's descendants migrated to

Estill County, Kentucky! Pvt. William died in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, very near Estill County,

Kentucky.

        54.  John Thompson

Notes for John Thompson:

Mr Geo Thompson of Pleasont Hill Mo., is making his annual visit to our

town.  Mr Thompson is 75 years of age, was born in Pulaski County, Ky

married twice in Rockcastle and lived there 25 years is well known to many

of the citizens of that county.  His life has been of many changes.   He

went with a company to Pikes Peak in the 50's, traveled over the Western

plains and met with many adventures, returned about the beginning of the

rebellion, enlisted in the Union army; was taken prisoner at the time Capt

Harb King was and was accused of being one of King's bushwackers; was put

in jail at Somerset, then to Tennessee.  He soemtimes nearly starved.  Says

he met J.K. McClary once in Barbourville and told him he was hungry.

"John" went to try to get him soemthing to eat and brought him a hoecake,

all he could find.  He says it was the sweetest bread he ever ate.  The

rebels come very near hanging him when they hung King, but finally released

him, so broken in health that he was discharg

ed from service.  He came home regained his health, married his second

wife, and moved to Indiana; thence to Illinois, from ther to Kansas; back

to Illinois again, and then into Missouri where he now makes home with a

married daughter, but spends his winters in Kansas and his summers in Crab

Orchard.  I any old Rockcastle folks would like to see "hog eye" they can

call at G.H. Patten's, Crab Orchard, where they will find him as jolly as

ever and still barefooted on the top of his head.

THOMPSON OF PULASKI

They were a Scottish family, with some Irish blood that had been in America

for sometime, according to Henry Adams. They were rather small in stature,

but

well-developed muscular people. They were generally very fair with yellow

hair and blue eyes. In politics they were Whigs without exception.

Notes for James Davis:

Notes for James DavisI:

James Davis was a small man, in the War of 1812, and he was born in Virginia. James owned a

plantation in Hawkins County, Tennessee, near Rogersville; during the early years of his life he lived

on Cloud's Creek; later he moved across Clinch Mountain and lived in Mountain Valley, near

Friendship, the remainder of his life. At least four of his brothers were also farmers and lived near

Rogersville, Tennessee, in Hawkins County. James killed John Flowers of Hawkins County. This

coincides with a record in the Circuit Court files in Hawkins County that says that in April 1816,

James Davis, an older brother of Hezekiah II, killed John Flowers. John and James were good

friends; they were at a community gathering. John Flowers got too much liquor "under his belt"; he

became aggressive; he threatened James with a knife. James was backed into a picket fence with no

further way of avoiding an encounter; he jerked a picket of f the fence and struck John. This resulted

in John's death. James was acquitted of murder but the event caused him to leave the Choptack

community. He, therefore, moved across the Clinch Mountains, settled near Friendship, and lived in

Mountain Valley the rest of his days.
