Carter Saylor

Carter Saylor, age 99, of Hamilton, passed away in his residence, on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at 9:30 p.m. He was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky on February 26, 1905, the son of Wilburn and Laura (Helton) Saylor. Carter was employed as a machinist for Ford Motor Company, Sharonville, for 41 years, retiring in 1964 and was a member of the UAW Local #633. On February 10, 1926, in Newport, Kentucky, he was married to Alice King and she preceded him in death in 1988.

Carter was an avid gardener and a dedicated Red’s Fan, attending his first game in 1927, following the team for 77 years, and “the left hander rounding third and has made it safely home.”

He is survived by one son, Donald and his wife Beverly Saylor of Mooresville, Indiana; one daughter, Brenda and her husband Frank Webb of Hamilton; one brother, Walter Saylor of Hamilton; one sister, Susan Truman of Hamilton; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Curtis, Darrell and Robert Saylor; one daughter, Phyllis Purdy; seven brothers, Chester, Dillard, Bill, Jerome, Silas, Roscoe, and Mackie Saylor; and four sisters, Sidney Bilhardt, Merlie Chappel, Ella Croucher and Hester Chaney.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Willard Baker, Pastor of the Pater Avenue Pentecostal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m.
