Lloyd Thomas Adams, 68, of Georgetown, died Monday, May 21, 2007, in his home.

The husband of 45 years to Mary Ann Burgess Adams, he was born Nov. 21, 1938, in Owen County, to the late Loraine and Anna B. Neal Adams.

He retired after 30 years of service from Bendix in Frankfort, where he was a tool grinder.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Glenn) Hamilton, of Wilmore; three grandchildren, Abigail, Zachary and Katherine Hamilton, all of Wilmore; three brothers, Jack (Patsy) Adams, of Georgetown, Travis (Linda) Adams, of Cynthiana, and Dennis (Laura) Adams, of Versailles; three nieces, Diana (Joseph) Rodriguez, Tammy Hulette and Donna Adams; five nephews, Wayne Carpenter, Kevin (Lori) Adams, Chris (Tina) Carpenter, Greg Adams and Tim (Amanda)_Adams; and a special aunt, Emmarene Meredith.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin T. Adams, and a niece, Jill Ann.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, with Pastors Pete Hise and Bennie Robbins officiating.

Burial will be in Porter Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Greg Adams, Kevin Adams, Chris Carpenter, Charles Denniston, Glenn Hamilton, Billy Sharp and Billy Michael Sharp.
Honorary bearers will be Tim Adams and Wayne Carpenter.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert (Bobby) Elwood Adams, 62, of Georgetown, died Saturday, Sept. 
22, 2001, at his home after a short illness. He was the husband of 
Judy McFarland.
A native of Harrison County, he was the son of the late Ruby Katherine 
Maddox and Charles Gilbert Adams Sr. 
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kevin (Pam) Adams and Steve (Kim) 
Adams, both of Georgetown; three grandsons, Travis, Avery and Cody 
Adams, all of Georgetown; two brothers, Gilbert Adams Jr., of 
Versailles, and Jerry Adams, of Louisville; and two sisters, Jean 
Castle and Mary Ann Lisle, both of Winchester.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Johnson’s 
Funeral Home. Burial was in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Casket bearers were Steve, Jim and Austin Adams; Ben Calvert; Tommy 
Lisle; and Mike Castle.

Mary Frances Alcorn, 72, of Newport, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at 
St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was the widow of Otis Alcorn.
She was born in Berea on Aug. 9, 1922, and was the daughter of the late 
McKinley and Katherine McGillacuddy Long. She worked in Cincinnati as a 
leather specialist. She was a member of the Seventh Street Baptist 
Church in Newport.
Survivors include two children, Wesley Alcorn, of Gainesville, Fla., 
and Betty Eversole, of Newport; 11 grandchildren; and 21 
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Alma B. Lane, Hazel 
Whittamore and William Alcorn.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2002, at 
Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Taylor 
officiating.
Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be Friday, from 11 a.m. until time of service, at the 
funeral home.

Carl H. Anderson

Carl H. "Pappy" Anderson, 82, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007.

He was born in Fayette County on July 3, 1924, to the late Richard and Minnie Thompson Anderson.

The husband of Margaret Devers Anderson, he was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 14 F. & A.M., Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington, Royal Springs Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, American Legion and the V.F.W. He was district deputy of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, ran an upholstery shop specializing in Jeepsters. Also, he was a Kentucky Colonel, a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from IBM.

Survivors include a son, Virgil (Bud) Edwards, of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Duane (April) Edwards and Chelly Edwards, both of Georgetown; four great-grandchildren, Devin Edwards, Caden Shepard, Cammy Rodgers and Payton Rodgers; four brothers, Garnett (Naomi) Anderson, of Columbus, Ind., Marion (Mary) Anderson, of Hope, Ind., Gene (Jane) Anderson, of Logansport, Ind., and Cape (Louise) Anderson, of Lexington; two sisters, Dorothy Nichols, of Lawrenceburg, and Bonnie (Sonny) Poulter, of Salvisa; two cousins, Wanda Hamilton, of Georgetown, and Mark Perry, of Paris; a number of nieces and nephews and special friends, Jean Hackney and Bobby Young.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Edwards Tipton.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2007, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Huey Davis and Pastor Jeff Gibson officiating.

Burial will be in the Georgetown Cemetery with military rites.

Casket bearers will be Paul Hackney, Steve Fitch, Ernie Styler, Mark Perry, Terry Devers, Juball Dawes, Eddie Nichols, Alec Poulter and Bobby Jo Young.

A native of Maysville, he was the son of the late Tespie and 
Lucy Vice Anderson and was a refrigeration mechanic for the 
University of Kentucky. He was a member of the Northside 
Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Alyene Buckler and 
Bonnie Calvert, both of Owingsville; a brother, Albert Anderson, 
of Owingsville; a special daughter, Kimmy Greathouse, of Midway; 
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Northside 
Christian Church in Georgetown with Bro. Dwight D. Elam officiating.
Burial was in the Porter Cemetery in Scott County.
Casket bearers were Brandon Anderson; Joseph Greathouse; Donnie 
Cobb; Wilbur Carpenter Jr.; George Tanner; Henry Preston, M.D.; 
Bobby Ison; Kevin Simmons and Wayne Williams.

Frank Andes, 50, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at the 
V.A. Medical Center in Lexington.
Survivors include his mother, Iva Coldiron Horan, of Grant County; five 
brothers, Morris Andes, of Cincinnati, James Andes, of Albany, Albert 
Andes, of Los Angeles, Charles Andes, of Grant County, and Roy Andes, 
of Cincinnati; and four sisters, Georgie Ooten, of London, Patricia 
Brinker, of West Union, Ohio, Judy Francis, of Peebles, Ohio, and 
Francis Brinker, of Georgetown.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at the Marvin S.

M.L. Archer, 89, of Georgetown, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at his 
home. He was the husband of the late Ernestine Ward Archer.
He was retired director of L.T.I. A native of Jellico, Tenn., he was 
the son of Morrison and Fannie Underwood Archer. 
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Katherine and Sam 
Pollock, of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Bettye Archer and Bill 
Cheves, and Samuel K. and Lisa Pollock; two great-grandchildren, 
Kathryn Elizabeth and Marilee Archer Pollock, all of Lexington; and a 
nephew, Jerry (Jo) Stout, of La Follette, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Archer and Josephine 
Stout.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at 
Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Georgetown Cemetery.

Joe Kennerly Asher

Joe Kennerly Asher, 84, died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Georgetown Health Care. He was the widower 
of Mary Elizabeth Massie Asher.

A native of Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Ellis and Fay Thomas Kennerly Asher. He was a 
retired Gulf Oil Co. tax specialist and a member of Georgetown Baptist Church, a graduate of 
Georgetown College and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a World War II Army veteran who served his 
country in the European Theater. After the war, he was a radio announcer with WAVE in Louisville 
before moving to WLAP in Lexington until 1950.
Survivors include two daughters, Fay (Dennis) McCloskey, of Lolo, Mont., and B.J. Asher, of 
Jasper, Ind.; six grandchildren, Ken and David Cartledge and Matt, John, Erin and Kelly Creed; 
two great-grandchildren, Brenden and Ally; a sister in law, Jean M. Sparks, of Georgetown; and 
two brothers-in-law,Jack Massie, of Paris, and Ray Massie, of Quitman, Miss.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2006, at Johnson's Funeral Home. 

Burial will follow in Georgetown Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Massie Asher

Mary Elizabeth Massie Asher, 77, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at her home. She was the wife of Joe K. Asher.

A native of Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late Roy Calep and Mamie Frances Maybrier Massie. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the CWSO. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters and a son-in-law, Fay and Den-nis McClos-key, of Lolo, Mont., and B.J. Asher, of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Ken and David Cartledge, Matt, John and Kelly Creed and Erin Wiseman; three great-grandchildren, Brenden, Ally and Zander; a sister, Jean (Donald) Sparks, of Georgetown; two brothers, Raymond Massie, of Quitman, Miss., and Jack Massie, of Paris; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Mass of christian burial was held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Larry Hostetter officiating.

Burial was in the Georgetown Cemetery.

Casket bearers were her grandsons and Rick and Rob Massie.

Honorary bearers were Mike and Mark Rhodus, Neil and Keith Sparks and Reilly Creed.

Ernest Dean Bailey, 70, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was the husband of Carolyn Parks Bailey.

A native of Georgetown, he was the son of the late Willie Freeman and Bessie Ann Bailey and was a retired employee of Yale Ken_tucki_ana Inc.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Manley, of Scott County, and Deana Elias and Rena Sweeney, both of Lexington; a son, Dan Bailey, of North Middletown; two brothers, Lewis Bailey, of Jessamine County, and Gene Bailey, of Lebanon, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Johnson's Funeral Home by the Rev. Bobby Lakes.

Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery.

Janet Faye Bailey, 52, of Georgetown, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Central Baptist Hospital in 
Lexington. She was the wife of Jerry Bailey.
She was born in Bourbon County on Nov. 24, 1950, and was the daughter of Thelma Walling Henson, 
of Paris, and the late David Lawrence Henson. She was a graduate of Paris High School and was a 
member of Georgetown Nazarene Church. She was a group leader for Bosch-Rexroth Manufacturing.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; two sons, Jay Bailey, of Lawrenceburg, and Jamie 
(Jessica) Bailey, of Georgetown; a granddaughter, Jaydan Bailey, of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Connie 
(Don) Barker, of Paris; and a brother, Ronald (Peggy) Henson, of Lexington.

He was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Fayette County to the late George Aruthur and Nannie Piper Baker.

He was an auto detailer, an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Seventh Street Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita Baker (James) Clark, and three grandchildren, Phillip Baker, Brandy Baker and Khalil Landrum.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Baker and Charles Henry Baker, and a sister, Elizabeth Stevenson.

Mary Louise (Connelly) Balof, 92, of Georgetown, died Sunday, March 10, 
2002. She was the widow of Albert Henry “Harry” Balof.
She was born in Eastman, Ga., on Feb. 12, 1910. She was the daughter of 
Eugene and Bessie (Reynolds) Connelly. A resident of Georgetown since 
1945, she resided for six years at Dover Manor Nursing Home in 
Georgetown, where she died. She and her husband were married in 1945 in 
Lake Wales, Fla. She moved to Lake Wales in 1925 with family.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, of central Florida; and numerous 
Connelly nieces, nephews and cousins in Florida and Georgia.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister, Talbert, 
Walter, Gus, Eugene and Myrtice.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 
Crestlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Richard Weekley officiating.
No visitation is scheduled.

died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000.
A native of Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and 
Amanda Reynolds Kenley. She was a member of the First Church of the 
Nazarene but attended Highland Baptist Church, Lexington.
Survivors include a son, Donald Lewis Barber, Georgetown; three 
granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; 
two sisters, Lizzie Dotson, Versailles, and Lucille Floran, Frankfort, 
and a brother, Leo Kenley, Indianapolis, Ind. An infant daughter, 
Margie Barber; three sisters, Lillian Roberts, Dell Dalton, and Katie 
Jordan, and a brother, J.C. Kenley, are deceased.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Johnson’s 
Funeral Home, Georgetown. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery, 
Stamping Ground. Bearers will be Gary Hardin, David Clark, Stan

William Alvin Barber, 85, died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at the VA Hospital in Lexington. He was the husband of Carrie Mae Williams Barber.

A native of Georgetown, he was the son of the late Abraham and Charlotte Bell Barber. He was a World War II Army veteran, a retired Hoover Ball & Bearing Co. employee and a member of Great Crossings Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Eddie G. Barber, of Lexington; three daughters, Deboria B. Robinson and Ruby Wess, both of Georgetown, and Linda Raglin, of Lexington; a brother, James Barber, of Georgetown; three sisters, Clara Frazier and Charlotte Williams, both of Lexington, and Aluthia McIntyre, of Boston; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Johnson's Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. C.B. Akins Sr.

Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be after 12 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home

Robert Barkley Bush, 96, husband for 57 years to the late Beulah Reed Bush, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at his home in Georgetown.

Born in Scott County on June 29, 1911, he was the son of Emery Woodford and Maude May Bush.

He was a 1929 graduate of Oxford High School and a member of the Kentucky Shorthorn Cattle Association and Scott County Farm Bureau. He received the Pioneer Farmer Award in 1983 and served on the Southern States Co-op Board.

He was a tobacco and cattle farmer for more than 80 years, and became an avid supporter of saddlebred horses in his later years, breeding and showing at many local shows. He was also an early innovator of no-till corn.

He was a member and elder of Providence Prebsyterian Church and later attended Bethesda Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Robert Reed (Sue) Bush, of Campbellsburg; a daughter, Pamela B. (Joseph) Scallan, of Washington D.C.; four grandchildren, Robert Bush II and Mallorie Lu Bush, both of Campbellsburg, Joseph A. Scallan III, of San Diego, and Marshall Reed Scallan, of Washington D.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Robert Logan Bush and Erin Reed Bush, both of Campbellsburg.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Bell Bush.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, with Minister Eddie Parker officiating.

Entombment will be at Georgetown Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be John P. Kitchen, Tracy Hilander, Price Smith, Robert Reed Bush II, Joseph A. Scallan III and Marshall Reed Scallan.

Honorary bearers will be Leroy Jones, Dave Clark, Gene Jarvis, Elmer Riley and George Hehr.

Ward Davis Barkley

Ward Davis Barkley, 83, died Friday, March 9, 2007, as a result of an accidental fall.

He was the widower of Patricia "Pat" Muntz Barkley.

He was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Scott County, to the late Ward Carrick and Mable Mullins Barkley.

An avid fisherman and hunter, he was a member of the American Legion and the Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church. He was a World War II Army veteran, and was retired from the Scott County Board of_Education.

He is survived by a stepson, William Howard Risk, of Louisville; a brother, Walter Leighton Barkley, of George-town; three sisters, Anna Jean Brannock, Esther (Tom) Fogle and Phyllis (Bobby) Green, all of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Neeley.

Services were 11 a.m. Monday at Tucker, Yocum and Wilson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Bailey officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Gilead Road Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Randall Grimes, Greg Brandenburg, Heath Oliver, Joe Wriner, An-drew Glenn and Jimmy Fogle. Betty J. Barnett, 74, of Sadieville, formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died 
Friday, March 29, 2002, at her home. She was the widow of James E. 
Barnett.
She was born on May 2, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Earnest 
and Nettie Peck Blythe. She was a retired employee of the Ramada Inn, 
Ohio; a longtime member of the Merlin Heights Pentecostal Church, 
Dayton, Ohio; and attended Trinity Assembly of God, Georgetown.
Survivors include a son, William Major (Vicki) Barnett, of Georgetown; 
three grandchildren, Billy (Elisha) Barnett, of Georgetown, Jennifer 
(Isaac) Bredberg, of Georgetown, and Micki Barnett, of Georgetown; a 
great-grandchild, Isaac Carter Bredberg, of Georgetown; a sister, Wilma 
Farris; five brothers, Jack, Mike, Ronnie, David and Daniel Blythe; and 
a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny E. Barnett; a brother, Bill 
Blythe; and a sister, Sissy Blythe.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Tucker, Yocum & 
Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Joseph officiating.
Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery of Stamping Ground.

Gene Edwards Barnett, 33, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001.
He was born in Fayette County on Aug. 25, 1968 and was the son of the 
late Arnold Wayne and Patricia Ann Kirkland Barnett. 
He is survived by a sister, Sherri (Robert) Peters, of Georgetown; two 
nieces, Tera McLain, of Georgetown, and Tanessa Jones, of Lexington; a 
great-niece, Alexus Prado; and a great-nephew, Antonio Prado. 
Graveside services were Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at the Georgetown 
Cemetery.

Jordan, Juan Prado and James Leinger.

Carl Samuel Bassett, 84, of Stamping Ground, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 
2001, at Georgetown Healthcare.
He was born in Scott County on March 30, 1917, and was the son of the 
late John Peter and Adeline Braden Bassett. He was a retired farmer and 
a member of the Caney Fork Baptist Church. He served his country during 
World War II.
Survivors include a nephew and seven nieces.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Tucker, Yocum 
& Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Alexander officiating.
Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery of Stamping Ground.

Bradley Scott Beatty, 41, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, in Lexington.

A native of Georgetown, he was the son of Charlie Beatty and Ruth Ann Duvall Price, both of George__town, a member of Gano Baptist Church and a 1983 graduate of Scott County High School. He was a former facilities manager for Meridian Management Co.

Survivors include two children, Nathan Clinton and Natalie Ann Beatty, Hendersonville, Tenn.; two sisters, Leanne B. (Reed) Chacksfield, of Loveland, Ohio and Cindy (Scott) Holler, of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at Johnson's Funeral Home by the Rev. Darrell Cruse.

Burial will be in the Georgetown Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Reed Chacksfield, Scott Holler, Gary Beatty, Joey Lusby, David Showalter and Craig Ruth.

Charlie Beatty, 66, died at home Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006.

He was born Dec. 27, 1939, to the late James Beatty and Gertrude Vance Beatty Humphrey. He was the former owner of Charlie Beatty Heating and Air.

He was a farmer, a member of Stamping Ground Baptist Church, a graduate of Stamping Ground High School and a 50-year member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Post 24.

Survivors include his daughter, Janie (Sam) Herrington, of Georgetown; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Emily and Sarah Herrington.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Allen Breen, and a sister, Eva Breen.

He was the husband of Carol Powell Brewer.

A native of Lexington, he was the son of the late Maurice Nathaniel and Lucille Ambrose Brewer. He was a U.S. Army Viet-nam veteran and a member of the Georgetown Community Church. A retired farrier, he owned Bluegrass Forge for 27 years. He was currently employed by Lowe's of George-town.

Survivors include two sons, Craig (Cherie) Queen, of Caseville, Mich. and Scott (Kelley) Queen, of Floyd, Va.; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Wanda (Bill) Dugger, of Georgetown; and two brothers, Bill (Linda) Brewer and Carl (Cynthia) Brewer, both of Lexington.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 at Russell Cave Road Baptist Church, officiated by Gary Graves, pastor of Georgetown Community Church.

a member of the Georgetown Baptist Church.

Mary Louise Wilhoite Brockman, 75, of Owenton, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at New Horizons Medical Center.

A native of Scott County, she was the daughter of the late John W. Wilhoite and Mary Jane Ayres Wilhoite.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Charlie) Ellis, of Beechwood, and Jeanette (Jon) Harris, of Brookfield, Ohio; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ralph C. Burrows, 94, of Georgetown, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at 
his home. He was the husband of the late Grace Duvall Burrows and the 
late Audrey Wilson Burrows.
He was born in Scott County on Oct. 22, 1907, and was the son of the 
late Alonza C. and Tina Woods Burrows. He was the first principal for 
the Scott County Junior High School. He began teaching Burton 
Elementary School, and from there he taught at the Yates and Stamping 
Ground Schools. He was a graduate of Georgetown College and received 
his master’s degree from the University of Kentucky. He was a member of 
the First Christian Church, Georgetown; a member of Alpha Gamma Chapter 
of Kappa Delta P. of the University of Kentucky; and a former member of 
the Georgetown Rotary Club.
Survivors include three nieces, Carol Perkins, of Owen County, Kathy 
Towles, of Georgetown, and Evelyn Miller, of Franklin County; and two 
nephews, Douglas Burrows, of Cynthiana; and Duane Burrows, of Modesta, 
Calif.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Selena Wilson; and four brothers, 
Justus Burrows, Kenneth Burrows, A.C. Burrows Jr. and Lloyd Douglas 
Burrows Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002, at 
Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Cox

Newberry and Rilda Newberry Doughtery. She was a retired dry cleaning 
clerk for over 50 years.

Ishmel (Karen) Burus, of Stamping Ground; two grandchildren, Kelly 
Adams, of Lexington, and Patrick (Brendi) Burus, of Georgetown; four 
great-grandchildren, Natasha, Hanna and Abigale Adams, and Colton 
Burus; five step-grandchildren, Roma, Mona, Heather, Kimberly and 
Joshua; seven brothers, Winston, Rollis, Lloyd, Bascomb, Bill, Edsel 
and Daniel Newberry; and six sisters, Verla Hughes, Mary Ritchie, Linda

She was a graduate of University High School in Lexington, Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va., and received a Masters of Library Science from Emory University. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Women and the Daughters of the King and former member of the Scott Co. Women's Club, Junior League of Lexington, Scott Countians Against Drugs and was a Scott County Committee for Academic Excellence facilitator.

Survivors include a son, Benjamin C. Bynum, of Georgetown; a daughter, Anna A. Bynum, of Arcata, Calif.; a sister, Clare W. (Ed) Sullivan, of Atlanta; two brothers, Dr. Sankey (Connie) Williams, of Philadelphia, and Coke (Liz) Williams, of Moreland Hills, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

June 26, 2007, at his residence.  Born in Scott County, he was the son of the late, Earl and Blanche Wise Campbell. 
He was a member of the Lawrenceburg Church of God and was a retired truck driver for A1 Portable Buildings.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Darlene Smith and Kay Spies, both of Lawrenceburg; two 
sons, Wesley  Campbell, New Jersey, and Tommy Campbell, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 
and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister, Linda Hamilton, is deceased.

Wendell Franklin Centers, 53, of Frankfort, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 
2001, at the V.A. Center in Lexington. He was the husband of Shelia 
Burgess Centers.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1948, in Barboursville, and was the son of James 
Oscar and Irene Joyner Centers. He was a self-employed heavy equipment 
operator. He served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member 
of the Oakland Christian Church, V.F.W., American Legion and D.A.V.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Justin Thomas Centers, of Frankfort; 
four daughters, Arlena Gail Norris, of Stamping Ground, Wendy Lorelle

Edith Linn Clifton, 92, Scott County artist and widow of Charles F. Clifton, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at Georgetown Community Hospital.

A native of Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late Kelly R. and Oma Blythe Linn.

She was a member of First Christian Church, a founding member of the Scott County Art League and was honored as Outstanding Citizen by the House of Representatives for her contribution in the arts in 2007.

Survivors include two sons, Charles David (Betty) Clifton, of Georgetown, and James Leslie (Susan) Clifton, of Sadieville; three grandchildren, David (Amy) Clifton, Leslie Ann (John) McClellan and Tony Clifton; three great-grandchildren, Kristie Clifton, Trinity Clifton and Layna Sides; three sisters, Mildred Vallandingham, of Medford, Ore., Aretta Clifton and Nora (Tommy) Clark, both of Felicity, Ohio; and a brother, J.T. (Beulah) Linn, of Bromley.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Jones and Helen Courtney; and two brothers, Charlie Linn and Kenneth Linn.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Johnson's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Thorn officiating.

Heart. He was the son of the late Van and Vina Campbell Combs.

Charles O. Cook, 96, of Georgetown, died Saturday, August 5, 2006, at the Georgetown Community Hospital. He was the husband of Lucille Murphy Cook.

A native of Georgetown, he was born November 19, 1909, in Harrison County to the late Samuel Green Cook and Cora Ann Fryman Cook.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Great Crossing Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Linda (Mike) Whaley, Carol (Bryan) Hughes and Charles M. (Sandy) Cook, all of Georgetown; a sister, Cora Lee Alcorn, of Georgetown; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. James (Rocky) McManus officiating. Pallbearers were: James C. A native of Georgetown, born May 1, 1928,  he was the son of the late Ola Morris Cook Sr. and Ruth Britton Cook. He was a retired AT&T employee and attended Newtown Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sondra (Louie “Red”) Queen and Sherry (Mark) Wanchic; three grandchildren Brett (Dawn) and Brooke Queen and Christa Wanchic; a great-grandson, Evan Queen; a brother, Tommy (Janet) Kidwell; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Hinton and Jane Penn, all of Georgetown.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Johnson's Funeral Home by the Rev. Bob Franz.

Burial was in Georgetown Cemetery.

Joe Costello, 61, of Sturbridge Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007.

He was the husband of Claudia Yockey Costello.

He played baseball in the San Francisco Giants organization and with the Hawaiian Islanders from 1965-1972.
He was an operator of the Made from_Scratch catering company.
He was a coach, mentor and cheerleader for all the Scott County girls' sports. Since 1992, he worked as a school bus driver for the Scott County school system.

Survivors besides his wife include three daughters, Jessica (Tommy) Greathouse, Corinne Costello (Michael Nash) and Ashley (Eric) Taylor; a grandson, Isaac Taylor; his mother, Geraldine C. Bruce; a brother, Dan (Esther) Costello; one sister, Mary Teska; an uncle, Walt (Shirley) Terwilliger, two brothers-in-law, Bruce and David Yockey; a host of nieces and nephews; and three very "special" daughters, Erin Tackett-Leaverton, Christy Dennis and Marryanne Woodman-Allen.

Alta Ireland Cottrell

Alta Wood Ireland Cottrell, 92, of the Bee Hive Home in Georgetown, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 in Danville. She was the widow of John A. Cottrell.

She was the daughter of the late John and Mattie Baldwin Ireland, and a retired supervisor in the state personnel department. Cottrell was a member of the First Christian Church and Spindletop Hall. She had been active in the Democratic Party, represented Scott County twice in 4-H state competitions and was a county bridge champion twice. She was twice named a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include a son, David Cottrell; two daughters, Carolyn Gillette and Jane Cottrell; four grandchildren, Clark Cottrell, Keith Cottrell, Melissa Cox and Rob Gillette; two great-grandchildren, Ally-son Cottrell and David Cottrell; a sister, Ona Hukill; three nieces, Patsy Rich, Mattie Brown and Marion Simon, and in-laws Bob, Edith, Susan, Allan and Jennifer.

She was preceded in death by a brother Chester Ireland, and four sisters, Lucille Reynolds four sisters, Lucille Reynolds Courtney, Elva Adams, Mildred Penn, Nora Brooking and Verbal Lee Simon.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 at Johnson's Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Scott Cox.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery.

8, 2002, at her home.
A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Henly and 
Flora Merrell McIntosh.

Esther Townsend Covington, 88, of Pocahontas Trail, Georgetown, died 
Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at the Hospice Care Center. She was the widow 
of Jessie L. Covington.
She was a native of Montgomery County, a retired employee of the Union 
Underwear Co. and a member of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Candy M. Cains, of Georgetown; a son, 
Ronald Howard Coburn, of Lexington; two sisters, Irene Crowe, of 
Winchester, and Marie Townsend, of Mt. Sterling; a brother, PeeWee 
Townsend, of Mt. Sterling; 10 grandchildren and several 
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Callie Jo McKinney; a son, 
Bobby Coburn; two granddaughters, Regina Cains and Ginger Pickett; and a grandson, Allen Snowden.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at 
Johnson’s Funeral Home with Pastor Stanley Holder officiating.
Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.

Frank Covington, 66, of Showalter Drive, Georgetown, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at his home after several months’ illness. He was the husband of Janice Ann Conrad Covington.

An EMT for the Georgetown/Scott County EMS, he was a native of Scott County and the son of the late Lloyd Thomas and Ethel Rogers Covington. He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Peggy (Tony) Burchell, of Lexington; two sons, Frank Allen Covington, of Lexington, and Thomas Shane (Gail) Covington, of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Gladys (Roy) Atwood, of Richmond; a brother, Richard (Beulah) Covington, of Georgetown; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Covington; and two sisters, Louise Robinson and Carrie Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Johnson’s Funeral Home with the Rev. William C. Thorn and the Rev. David Welsh officiating.

Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery.

John Richard Covington, 92, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at the UK Medical Center.

Born Feb. 16, 1915, in Scott County, he was the son of the late James T. and Susie Willhoite Covington.

He was married to the late Priscilla Wise Covington for 60 years.

A salesman with Ades/Lexington Dry Goods and Penebaker & Son Dry Goods, of Lexington, he was a member of the George-town Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, secretary of the Young People's Department and a member of the Baracca Sunday school class.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Carol (Johnny) Griffin, of Georgetown; a son, John Richard (Betty) Covington II, of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Jeffrey T. (Teresa) Griffin, of West Chester, Ohio, Melissa (Keith) Lancaster, of Stamping Ground, John Richard Coving-ton III and Benjamin McCoy Covington, both of George-town; four great-grandchildren, Anna Claire and Kyle Griffin, both of West Chester, Ohio, and Jonathon and Zachary Sutherland, both of Stamping Ground; and four step-great-grandchildren, Keith Wayne (Karen) Lancaster, of Independence, and Megan, Lindsay and Molly Lancaster, all of Georgetown.

was a member of Boyers Chapel United Methodist Church.

(Flint) Davis, of Cynthiana; seven grandchildren, Ricky Lane Cox, Beverly Carol Trimpi, Debora 
K. Isonhof, Rita Faye Parfit, Michael Keith Davis, Shoney McNabb and Vickie Ritchie; and several 
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce VanArsdale.

Services will held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by

Leslie Mae Todd Cox, 87, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at Darby Square 
Nursing Home in Lexington. She was the widow of Alvin Cox, to whom she 
was married for over 55 years.
Born in Mercer County on Sept. 15, 1913, she was a member of the 
Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was the daughter of the late 
Robert and Pearl Beane Todd. She was a member of the Big Eddy 
Homemakers and Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Carden, of Lexington, and Judy 
Elkins, of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Reed and Amy Elkins, 
Stephanie Daniel, Rachelle Collins and Jerry Black; and a 
great-granddaughter, Ashley Black.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Rogers Funeral 
Home with Clay Lyons officiating.
Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lexington.

He was a former owner of Quality Office Supply in Georgetown, a member of Stamping Ground Church 
of God, where for years he was the church clerk, a past president of Georgetown Lions Club and a 
member of the Gideons.

Survivors include two daughters, Michelle (Ashley) Thompson, of Atlanta, and Mary (Roger) Goenk, 
of Mary Esther, Fla.; a father-in-law, Maurice (Polly) Humphries, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a 
brother, John Crank, of Monticello; and five grandchildren, Nikki Lewis, Cearra Crank, Michael 
Kidwell, Douglas Kidwell and Mackenzie Goen.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Crank.
