GEORGE W. ANDERSON was born May 13, 1814, in Lincoln County, Ky., and at
the age of four years moved to Bloomfield, Nelson County.  There he
remained until 1833 when he moved to Taylorsville, Spencer County, where he
has since resided.  His father, John Anderson, came to Green County, Ky.,
from Augusta County, Va., about 1803, with his father, William Anderson,
who was a physician.  John was born in 1777, and died in 1839.  He was a
merchant and trader; was a prominent Mason, and instituted many of the
first and most noted lodges of that order in Kentucky.  He married Charity
Elliott, daughter of Capt. George Elliott, who was three years captain in
the navy during the Revolution; his eldest son, Alexander, being his
lieutenant at the age of sixteen.  Mrs. Anderson came from the same county
in Virginia as did her husband; she was born in 1779, and died in 1833 of
cholera.  Our subject is the third of four children, and was educated in a
private school in Bloomfield, Ky., under the management of Rev. Mr. Clack.
He began for himself at merchandising, which he followed for ten years at
Taylorsville; was sheriff of the county seven years, and has also been
engaged in farming.
