BRIDWELL was born in Spencer County, Ky., April 28, 1838, the eldest of a family of five children born to James and Margaret (Terrill) Bridwell. James was born in Spencer County, August 17, 1777, and engaged in agricultural pursuits; he was a son a Presley, who was born in Virginia. Mrs. Margaret Bridwell was born in Spencer County, Ky., and was a daughter of Maj. Terrill. Our subject was reared on a farm in Spencer County, received a common-school education, and has always been engaged in farming and stock raising. He married, on April 17, 1862, Sarah C. Hughes, of Spencer County, Ky., a daughter of Elijah and Permelia (Wells) Hughes, and three children have blessed this union: James L., Elijah H. and Eliza A. James L. was educated at Taylorsville; Elijah H. and Eliza A. at Bardstown, Ky. Mr. Bridwell and family are members of the Baptist Church. He is a member of the I.O.O.F., and politically a Democrat.
