Kentucky: A History of the State. Perrin, Battle & Kniffin, 6th ed.,1887, Spencer Co. DR. LEWIS N. HUME was born in Spencer County, Ky., December 18, 1853. He is the third of a family of four born to Lewis and L.D. (McGee) Hume. Lewis was born in Virginia, immigrated to Kentucky in an early day, and settled in Madison County, near Richmond. He was a Christian preacher for thirty-five years, and was a son of Charles Hume, who was born in Virginia. Mrs. L.D. Hume was born in Trimble County, Ky., a daughter of Enoch McGee. Our subject was educated in Louisville, Ky. He commenced to read medicine in 1871, attended two full courses of lectures at the university in Louisville, and graduating in March, 1884, with high honors. He also took a special course on diseases and surgery. Immediately after graduating he located at Camdenville, Anderson Co., Ky., and remained until November, 1876. He then went to Taylorsville, Spencer Co., Ky., and remained until June, 1886, but on account of failing health he was compelled to quit his practice for a while, so since June, 1886, he has been trying to regain his lost strength. Dr. Hume is ranked as the leading physician and surgeon in the county, and his many friends are anxiously awaiting his return to Taylorsville. He is a member of the Christian Church; politically a Democrat and is still unmarried. Hume McGee = VA Madison Trimble Jefferson Anderson
