Kentucky: A History of the State. Perrin, Battle & Kniffin, 6th ed.,1887. (Spencer) S.T. LLOYD was born in Nelson County, Ky., March 26, 1828. He is the ninth of a family of twelve children born to Joseph and Martha (Bridwell) Lloyd. Joseph was born in Virginia. He immigrated to Kentucky about 1814 and settled in Nelson County. He was a shoemaker by trade, but followed agricultural pursuits, and was a son of James Lloyd, who was born in England. Mrs. Martha Bridwell was born in Virginia, a daughter of Isaac Bridwell, who was quite a wealthy and prominent farmer. Our subject moved with his parents to Spencer County when he was a year old and there has since resided. He is considered one of the largest land owners in Spencer County; although his first purchase was but eight acres he now owns 1,700 and does not owe a dollar on it. He is also extensively engaged in stock trading. He married, in March, 1853, Martha J. Hedges, of Spencer County, Ky., daughter of Amos Hedges. Seven children have blessed their union, five of whom are living: Wiliam T. was married to Inez Taylor, and had three children, Fred, Mary and Susie; Florence B. Tichenor; Mollie Wiggleworth; Joseph; Alice M., who married Samuel Wallace and who had one child, Joseph C. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and all the children, except Mollie, are members of the Baptist Church.
