Callie L. Adams
Callie L. Adams, 100, of Lexington, widow of Matt L. Adams, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Sayre Christian Village, Lexington.
A native of Woodford County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ella Maupin Lathrem. 
Survivors include five sons, Joseph M. Adams, Versailles; Theodore K. Adams and Matt Adams Jr., both of Lexington; Johnnie B. Adams, Mt. 
Sterling, Ohio, and Raybell Adams, Ellicott City, Md.; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 
two stepgrandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth White, Lawrenceburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, 
Jessamine County.

Services 11 a.m. Thursday, Versailles Presbyterian Church. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. 
Contributions suggested to Versailles Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

 

Alexander John "Alex" Alexander

Alexander John "Alex" Alexander V, M.D., 65, a member of one of the oldest Central Kentucky families, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006. Born Sept. 17, 1941, 
in Lexington , he was the son of the late Dr. Alexander John and Jean Preston Alexander. He attended University School before graduating from Woodbury
Forest
School in Woodbury Forest , Va. He went on to graduate from Washington & Lee University in Lexington , Va. , and Tulane University Medical School  
in New Orleans , La. After an internship at Vanderbilt, he went into the U.S. Navy, attached as a medical specialist to the U. S. Marines, where he served in 
Vietnam and received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Commendation medal with combat distinguishing device, Vietnam 
Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation of the Gallantry Cross with 
Palms and the Bronze Star. He completed his military service at the U.S. Naval Balboa Hospital in San Diego , Calif.  Upon leaving the Navy with the rank of 
lieutenant commander, he completed his residency at the University of Kentucky . When in practice, he worked with Dr. Ben Roach and Dr. Norman "Jack" 
Fisher in Midway, the University of Kentucky Clinic , and The Frontier Nursing Service in Wendover. He then earned a master's degree in immunology and his 
Ph.D. degree in microbiology from the University of Kentucky . While working in this field, he did work on the blood typing and DNA of horses. This work 
contributed to the testing practice that is used in thoroughbred racing today. He later worked for the United States Army Research Institute for Infections Disease 
(USAMRIID). He was active in the Kentucky Sportsman's League and enjoyed competitive shooting. He is survived by two sisters, Katherine Alexander Brewer, 
Lexington , and Jean Alexander Gilcrest, Davidson , N.C. ; six nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and nephews. Services were conducted Wednesday, 
Sept. 20, at the Versailles Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery . Casket bearers were Tom Miller, Christopher Anderson, Bill Combs, Norman 
Fisher, M.D., Wayne Haffler, Michael Carmichael, Tucker Carmichael, and Russell McAllister, M.D. Honorary bearers were Mark Burud, William Gilcrest, Robert 
A.A. Brewer, and Tom Adams. The W.R. Milward Mortuary, Broadway, was in charge of arrangements.  Memorials are suggested to Versailles 
Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association.

William Lux Alves, 68, of Hobbs, N. M., formerly of Versailles, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at Lea Regional Hospital in Hobbs.
Mr. Alves, son of the late Haywood "Pete" and Mildred Alves, was born in Beattyville on Nov. 17, 1931. He moved with his family to Versailles 
in 1936 and was reared here.Mr. Alves is survived by two sons, Lee and Steve Alves, of Hobbs; two 
brothers, Robert Haywood Alves, Versailles, and Stanley Powell Alves, Oxford, Ohio; a sister, Patricia Gordon, Richmond, Va.; four 
grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Samuel Alves, is deceased.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at Northside Baptist Church, Hobbs. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Memorial Park. 
The Griffin Funeral Home, Hobbs, is in charge of arrangements.

Ella Louise Anthony, 62, of Lexington, formerly of Midway, widow of James C. "Spud" Anthony Sr., died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at the 
University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center, Lexington.Born in Woodford County March 9, 1939, she was the daughter of the late 
Ben Glaspy and Eddie C. Ingguls.Survivors include eight daughters, Anna Roark, Eddy Anthony, Sharon 
Spencer, Mary Anthony, Phyllis Anthony, Lisa Anthony, Eve Anthony, and Angie Anthony, all of Lexington; five sons, James Anthony Jr., 
Lexington, Larry Anthony, Versailles, Paul Anthony, Midway, Phillip Anthony, Lexington, and David Anthony, Lexington; three sisters, 
Arnetta Washington, Lexington, Helen Washington, Midway, and Marcella Long, Midway; 24 grandchildren; a great grandchild; and numerous nieces 
and nephews. A daughter, Marsha Susan Anthony; a son, John Andrew Anthony; three brothers, J.B., Norris, and Cecil Ingguls; and a sister, 
Lorraine Ingguls; are deceased.Services were conducted Saturday, March 9, 2002, at the Midway Second 
Christian Church by Sister Sandra Dickerson-Sneed. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery. Casket bearers were Glen Crawford, Marcus Crawford, 
Norman Crawford, Norris Ingguls Jr., Cecil Washington, and Fred Jackson. Honorary bearers were the officers of the Midway Second

Lowell D. Baker, 92, of Lexington, formerly of Versailles, husband of Florence Ponder Baker, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001.
Born in Woodford County July 22, 1909, he was the son of the late William E. and Anna Rice Baker. 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. A son, Donald Earl Baker, two sisters, Bertha Lutz and Wilma Baker, and 
two brothers, Thomas and Lee Baker, are deceased.Services will be conducted a 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, 
at the Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel, Versailles. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers will be Charles "Buddy" Baker, 
Ronald Wayne Baker Sr., Barry Baker, Ronald Wayne Baker Jr., Mark Hill, and John Hill.

Edna Rarden Ballinger, 89, of Frankfort, formerly of Versailles, widow of Arthur Ballinger, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Lawrenceburg, following an illness.

Born March 12, 1918, in Bell County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Alice Gamble Mills. She was the retired owner of E&A Market and a member of New Life Worship Center.

Survivors include three sons, Clifford Fultz, Lawrenceburg, Clyde Fultz Jr., Frankfort, and Ronnie Rarden, Woodford County; a daughter, Alice Johnston, Frankfort; two brothers, Amond 
Mills, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Frank Mills Jr., Eddy, Texas; three sisters, Gladys Garrison, Harrison, Ohio, Myrtle Hollingsworth, Harrison, Ohio, and Dee Winterod, Moscow, Ohio; and many 
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A daughter, Arlene McKinley; a brother, Lenord Mills; and two sisters, Pearl Lovell and Juanita Brock, are deceased.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Gene Roberts. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery. 
Family members and friends served as casket bearers.

Lillian Barber, 87, of Lawrenceburg, widow of John Barber, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Lawrenceburg, 
after a long illness.A native of Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late George 
and Leanola Wash Hall. Services were conducted Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Harrod Brothers 
Memorial Chapel by the Rev. George Dye and the Rev. Gene Roberts. Burial was in the family lot in the Alton Cemetery. Casket bearers were 
Donnie Cox, Rick King, Kelly Carr, Lloyd Jones, Johnny Santeramo, and Roger Combs.

Vernon Barnes, 86, died Monday, June 5, 2006, at Georgetown Community Hospital. He was the 
husband of Margaret Barnes.

He was born June 7, 1919, in Stamping Ground to the late James and Pearl Ryley Barnes. He was a 
retired employee of Genesco and was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. 
He was a member of Buck Run Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, George Vernon Barnes Jr., of Frankfort; two grandchildren; and six 
great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2006, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with 
the Rev. Ray Roach officiating.

Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort.

Ada Belle Strange Beasley, 92, of 205 Beaver Park, Versailles, widow of  Milward Beasley, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at her residence after a 
long illness.A Woodford Co. native, she was the daughter of the late David and Minnie Belle Strange. She was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church and 
had owned and operated Beasley’s Grocery in Nonesuch.She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Raider and Christine 
McCauley, both of Versailles; two sons, Milward Beasley Jr., Franklin, Ohio, and Paul Thomas Beasley, Henderson; 10 grandchildren, and 17 
great-grandchildren.Services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Blackburn 
& Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, by the Rev. David Duggan. Interment was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County. Casket bearers 
were Steve Beasley, Tony Beasley, Kevin Beasley, Michael McCauley, Kyle Beasley, and Ron Smith.

and Khamaria Shanks; and a step-sister, Suzanne Austin, all of Lexington; step-mother, Almeda Bibbs, Winchester; three aunts, Mary P. 
Collins, Cleveland, Ohio, Ann Jackson, Versailles, and Jennie Didlick; an uncle, William Bibbs, Winchester; and numerous cousins.
Services were conducted Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Highlands Baptist Church. Burial was in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Martyn-Hurley Funeral

Lexington.Born in Miami, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Mary Goodpaster Bowling. She had lived in West Virginia for several years prior to 
residing in Versailles. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Natausha Hython, Steubenville, Ohio, and Gabriella Arriaga, Versailles; a son, 
Westley Bowling, Versailles; a sister, Anna Tingler, Nicholasville; a brother, Larry Estes, Bradford, Maine; and several uncles and aunts.

Roy Oliver Borowiak of Dunn, N.C., formerly of Versailles, husband of Betty Paterson Borowiak, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at his residence.
A native of Woodlawn, Ill., he was the son of Joseph and Josephine Kraweicki Borowiak. He was a retired salesman with Southeastern 
Transformer, Dunn, N.C., and was associated with Kuhlman Electric, Versailles, for 11 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kevin Borowiak, Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Cheryl Hatcher, Richmond, Va., and Lynn 
Ryan, New Castle, Ind.; and one grandchild, Brett Ryan.Services were conducted Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at the Skinner Funeral 
Home Chapel, Dunn, N.C., by the Rev. David Sherrod. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

her home.She was a daughter of the late Cran and Zannie Means Kincaid.In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Tammy Bostic 
Goodlett, Anderson County; four sons, Mike Bostic, Ernie Bostic, and Wayne Bostic, all of Anderson County, and Jackie Bostic, Washington 
County; four sisters, Debra "Sissy" Cummins, Anderson County, and Marie Brumback, Nancy Watkins, and Libby Clark, all of Woodford County; seven 
brothers, Herbert Kincaid and Edgar Kincaid, both of Anderson County; Floyd Kincaid, Jackson County; Donnie Kincaid and Venard Kincaid, both 
of Franklin County, and Phillip Kincaid and Bradley Kincaid, both of Woodford County; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and 
several nieces and nephews. A sister, Molly Cheatham; a brother, Walter Kincaid; a grandson, Joshua Bostic, and a nephew, Billy Cheatham, are 
deceased.Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, by the Rev. Bob C. Jones. Interment was

Sallie Bottoms, 76, of Versailles, wife of Charles Bottoms, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Born in Woodford County Oct. 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William Mac and Sadie Samuels Caldwell. She was a retired housekeeper 
and a member of the Versailles First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, William Harris, Lexington, and Larry Weathers, Alabama; a brother, John Caldwell, Woodford 
County; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the Versailles First Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Weathers and the Rev. Floyd Greene. Burial will follow 
in Steele Cemetery, Versailles. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 31, at the church. Casket bearers will be Pete Washington, Theo Babbs, Richard Carr, A.J. Chase, John Miller, 
and Bo Miller. Honorary bearers will be Bradley Buckner, Richard Kirtley II, Joe Richards, and Mrs. Bottoms's grandsons.

Robert Wesley "Bob" Bowen, 70 of Versailles, formerly of Huntington, W. Va., husband of Cynthia Sue Linet Bowen, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, 
at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.Mr. Bowen was a native of New Boston, Ohio, a son of the late Russell 
and Elizabeth Aldridge Bowen. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Lee 
Klek, Rocky River, Ohio; Lauren Lee Bowen, Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Linda Lee Paluch, Dublin, Ohio; a sister, Carol Lee Haney, 
Wheelersburg, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Maria and Nikolas Klek, Emma, Clare and Benjamin Snape, and Jaclyn, Trevor, and Cole Paluch. A 
son, Kevin Russell Bowen, and a brother, James "Stormy" Bowen, are deceased.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, by the Rev. Ron Brooks and Jerry Sander. Burial 
was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington.

Alford "Doc" Bowman, 80, of Lexington, husband of Emma Louise Dearing Bowman, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at the VA Hospital.
He was a native of Versailles, a son of the late William Lonzo and Stella Mae Bowman. 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Darrell Bowman, and Gary Bowman, both of Lexington; two stepsons, 
Richard "Ricky" Conkwright, Lexington, and Randy Conkwright, Nicholasville; eight grandchildren; a great grandchild; a 
brother, John Bowman, Versailles; and seven sisters, Laura Robinson Jr., Lila Goins, Lora June Serber, and Nita Robinson, 
all of Versailles; Alma Jean Walford and Kitty Riddle, both of Lawrenceburg, and Anna Belle Gill, Midway. A sister, Edith 
Carter, and three brothers, Lawrence Bowman, Lonzo Bowman Jr., and Kelly Bowman, are deceased. Services were conducted at 
11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 
Jessamine County. Nephews served as casket bearers.

The Rev. James Lonnie Bradley, 75, of Lebanon, husband of Billie White Bradley of Lebanon and father of Sam Bradley of Versailles, died 
Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.A native of Burnwell, W. Va., he was the son of the late Lonnie E. and 
Ada Vealey Bradley. He was a retired Baptist minister who served the Level Grove Baptist Church, Cornelia, Ga.; First Baptist Church, 
Jenkins; Central Baptist Church, Maysville, and Springfield Baptist Church. He was for many years active on various boards of the Kentucky 
Baptist Convention. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by a daughter, Susie Nally, Lexington; three grandchildren, Brad Nally, Betsy Nally, and

MAGGIE BRADSHAW, 77, of Nicholasville, died Tuesday, Feb. 22,2000 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. The daughter of the late Ben 
and Sallie Woolums Troxell, she was the widow of Fred Adams and Vernon Bradshaw. A retired seamstress of Union Underwear, Barrets Sewing 
Factory and the Mary Katherine Shop, and a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Keene, she is survived by her son, Pete Adams of 
Pleasureville, and three stepsons, Keith (Dot) Bradshaw of Florida, Autry (Betty) Bradshaw of Lexington, and Walter (Beverly) Bradshaw of 
Jessamine County; one granddaughter, Patricia Ritchey, and two great-granddaughters. Also surviving is a sister, Elizabeth Woolums of 
Frankfort and a brother, Ben Troxell Jr. of Frankfort; seven stepgrandchildren and a niece, Linda Demaree of Santa Claus, Indiana. 
She was preceded in death by both husbands.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, at Hager 
and Cundiff Funeral Home with the Rev. DeWayne Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Versailles Cemetery. Family and friends will

Della Mae Bray, 60, of Weisenberger Mill Road, Midway, died of complications fram an aneurysm May 10, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital 
in Lexington. She was the wife of Robert Bray and the daughter of the late Richard Sorrell Sr. and Betty Troxell Sorrell of Midway. She 
attended the Refreshing Ministry Church in Midway. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Della Marie Spicer, 
Midway; three sons, Willie Todd of Georgetown, and David Todd and Bobby Bray, both of Midway; 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grand
children. Two daughters, Cheryl Ann Todd and Donna Sue Todd; an infant son; and a brother, Richard Sorrell Jr., are deceased. 
Burial in Midway Cemetery.

Della Mae Bray, 60, of Weisenberger Mill Road, Midway, who was an ardent supporter and volunteer for Hospice of the Bluegrass, died of complications 
from an aneurysm Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. She was the wife of Robert Bray and the daughter of the 
late Richard Sorrell Sr. and Betty Troxell Sorrell of Midway.

She was so touched by the care that hospice workers gave her father before his death in 1991 that she wrote a book about it. She paid to have the book, titled 
Helping Hands and described as "a ministry to broken hearts and lives," published later in 1991. She donated all proceeds to the hospice.

She ended many sections of her book with "Good-bye for now Della," a phrase that was used on her funeral program. She was also the author of another book of inspiration.

Mrs. Bray was an employee of Caretenders and a former employee of Texas Instruments in Versailles for 21 years. She attended the Refreshing Ministry Church, Midway, 
and formerly donated much of her time to a clothing bank.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Della Marie Spicer, Midway; three sons, Willie Todd, Georgetown, and David Todd and Bobby Bray, 
both of Midway; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Two daughters, Cheryl Ann Todd and Donna Sue Todd; 
an infant son; and a brother, Richard Sorrell Jr., are deceased.

Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, by the Rev. Ed Nichols. Interment was in the Midway 
Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ricky Noe, David Noe, Larry Troxell, Wayne Troxell, Donnie Hudson, and Steven Tucker. Memorials are suggested to

Born in Anderson County Oct. 22, 1917, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Ethel Klem Brown Sr. 
Mr. Brown was also a frequent writer of letters to the editor of The Sun.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Charleen Vittitow, Versailles; four grandsons, Ken and Timothy Cox, both of 
Versailles, and Chuck and Douglas Carmickle, both of Lawrenceburg; five great grandchildren; a niece, Rita Bogusky, Florida; and a nephew, Ed 
Brown, Florida. A daughter, Georgeann Carmickle, is deceased.Services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at the Duell-Clark 
Funeral Chapel, Versailles. Burial was in Sand Springs Cemetery, Anderson County. Members of the Duell-Clark family served as casket

Born Aug. 4, 1943 in Wilmore, he was the son of the late Hugh Thomas and Mary Rose Lyttle 
Buckler. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John Thomas Buckler, Berea; a sister, 
Charlotte Sinkhorn, Danville; two step-grandchildren, Ben and Brandon Pyles; and a 
step-great-grandchild, Indigo Pyles. 

Services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Betts & West Funeral Home by the Rev. Gilbert

A native of Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late George and Susie Buckner. 

She is survived by a brother, Bradley Buckner, Versailles; three nieces, including Bonita Roberson of Versailles, and two nephews.

Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County, by the Rev. O.L. Hughes. The 
O.L. Hughes & Sons Mortuary, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.

Calvin "Red" Columbia, 74, of Versailles, husband of Ann Columbia, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Lawrenceburg.
Born in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Jessie Hatfield Columbia. 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Patricia Craig McDaniel, Versailles, and Lou Bowman, Lawrenceburg; four sons, 
Calvin Columbia Jr., Frankfort, Jesse Robert Craig, Millville, Mark Allen Craig, Tyrone, and Norman Craig, Lawrenceburg; two sisters, Joyce 
Hays and Netty Kimbrell, Lexington; a brother, Quentin Columbia, Lexington; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
Services were conducted Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, by the Rev. Tom Hinkle and Chaplain Mike 
Harris. Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Wes McDaniel, Norman Craig, David Hayes, Tim Collins, Mark Craig 
Sr., and Jim Jarman. Honorary bearers were Bobby Cummins and Shane Cummins.

Memorial Hospital following a short illness.A native of Henry County, he was born Oct. 24. 1913, the son of the 
late Julia Wiley Colston and William Colston. He was a retired farmer and a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Aldridge Colston,Franklin County;five sons, Jimmy W. Colston, John I. Colston, Joe 
Colston and Ronny Colston,all of Franklin County, and Billy L. Colston, San Bernadino, Calif., three daughters, Mrs. Frances

Lucien Howe Congleton, 87, of 1135 Buck Run Road, Versailles, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, from injuries received in an automobile accident 
on Clifton Road Wednesday, Sept. 27.Mr. Congleton was past president and CEO of W. T. Congleton Co., Inc., Lexington.
A Lexington native, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Effie Mae Kilgore Congleton. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky 
School of Engineering, where he was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Tau, and Scabbard and Blade. He was a former 
member and elder of Crestwood Christian Church, where he was a charter member. At the time of his death he was an active member and deacon 
emeritus of the First Christian Church of Versailles. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 24th Infantry Regiment in 
the Asiatic Theater and with the 90th Infantry Division in Europe. He received a Bronze Star for action in the vicinity of Fort de Mont 
Castre, near Normandy, France, and a Silver Star during the Moselle River Crossing at Malling, France.
He served on boards of the Second Street and Greater Lexington Y.M.C.A.s, the Child Development Center of United Cerebral Palsy of the 
Bluegrass, the Kentucky Ready-Mix Concrete Association, and the Lexington Home Builders Association. He also was a member of the 
Lexington-Fayette Zoning Board for six years.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane Congleton; two sons, 
William T. Congleton II, Lexington, and Robert C. Congleton, Versailles; two daughters, Lucia C. Gilchrist, Lexington, and the Rev. 
Linda M. Kemp, Topeka, Kansas; five grandchildren, Sarah R. Bell, Laramie, Wyo.; James W. Congleton and Katie Congleton, both of 
Versailles; Reagin Kimmell, Topeka; and Chuck Kemp, Huntington, W. Va.; and a great-grandson. A son, David J. Congleton; a brother, William E. 
Congleton, and a sister, Helen C. Breckinridge, are deceased.Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Oct. 5, in the Lexington 
Cemetery by Dr. Don M. Vanzant. The W. R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway, Lexington, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions are

Lillian Routt Cornish, 90 , of Versailles, widow of Clarence H. Cornish, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at her residence.
Born in Woodford County Jan. 17, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Lora Bowman Routt. 
Survivors include a son, Donald R. "Dickie" Cornish, Versailles; a granddaughter, Judy Cornish Dowell; two step-great grandsons, John and 
Barry Dowell; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Loreen Barnes, and two brothers, Leroy and C.E. Routt, are deceased.
Services were conducted Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at the Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel, Versailles, by the Rev. Charles McKinley. Burial was in 
the Versailles Cemetery. Casket bearers were Winfrey Adkins, Jim Adkins, Joe Routt, Tommy Routt, Jerry Risk, David Risk, Alen Risk, and 
Charles Yarber. Honorary bearers were Bill Routt, Jim Rouse, J.C. Moraja, and Randal Dowell.

Anna Amason Cox, 51, of High Shoals, Ga., formerly of Versailles, wife of Albert Bud Cox, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Georgia.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Cheri Cullison and Jami Cox; a son, Albert Cox; and her mother, 
Mary Lord Amason, all of Athens, Ga., and three grandchildren.
Burial was on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Oconee Memorial Park, Watkinsville, Ga. Arrangements were handled by Oconee 
Chapel Funeral Directors, Watkinsville.

Earl T. Cox, 73, of Lexington, a retired sheet metal worker and former employee of Dunsmore & Son, husband of Elsie Cox, died Wednesday, March 
20, 2002, at the V. A. Medical Center.Born in Woodford County, he was a son of the late Albert and Lettie 
Maddox Cox, was a U. S. Army veteran, and had been in the Navy reserve. He was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Lexington.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael Cox, Nicholasville; three grandchildren, Joanah Welch, Michael L. Cox, and 
Matthew A. Cox, all of Nicholasville; a great grandchild, Aaron Welch, Nicholasville; and a sister, Pauline Ginter, Versailles. A great 
granddaughter, Javelin Welch, is deceased.Services were conducted Monday, March 25, 2002, at the Blackburn & Ward 
Funeral Home, by the Rev. Dwayne Walker. Interment with military honors was at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Casket bearers were Michael L. 
Cox, Matthew A. Cox, Earl Anderson, Steve Anderson, Kenneth Cox, and Bobby Quisenberry.

Born Nov. 12, 1907, in Loveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Emma McClain Peacock. 
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Craig, Yellow Springs, Ohio; two sons, Bill Craig, Durham, N.C., and Gary Craig, Hudson, Fla.; 12 
grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. A brother, Charlie M. Peacock, is deceased.
Services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at the Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel, Versailles. Burial was in Rose Crest Cemetery. Casket

A native of Frenchburg, she was a daughter of Mary Faulkner Howard, Lexington, and the late Wesley Howard.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two daughters, Gina Ann Morse and Carrie Leigh Crutcher, both of Lexington; three grandchildren; three brothers, 
Thomas S. Howard, Versailles; Wesley N. Howard Jr., Paris, and James E. Howard, Nicholasville; and a sister, Barbara H. Finch, Lexington.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington, by the Rev. James O. Finch Sr. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County.

Harry Cunningham Jr., 78, of Versailles, a retired barber here, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the Homestead Nursing Center, Lexington.
He was a U. S. Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving in England with the Eighth Air Force. 
Mr. Cunningham was a son of the late Harry Sr. and Hettie Goodrich Cunningham.

He is survived by a sister, Evelyn Devers, Frankfort; a daughter, Phyllis Carl, Versailles; two sons, Harry Cunningham III, Frankfort, 
and Tony Cunningham, Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers, 
Herbie and Eural Cunningham, and two sisters, Pauline Hagar and Elizabeth Hampton, are deceased.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. today, Dec. 28, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Jessamine 
County. Casket bearers will be Billy Cunningham, Harry Cunningham IV, Mike Cunningham, Bobby Carl Jr., Ted Nagel, and Robert Adcock. Honorary 
bearers will be James Hartley, Arthur Devers, Stanley Carter, Mike Brown, Jesse Brown Jr., Jimmy Brown, Lynn Baker, and Donald Turner.
