My mother is 83 years old and my Father passed away never knowing his
people of Adair county Kentucky. I wanted to surprise my mother about this
but always come to an end, the story is my grandmother Pearl Allen was born
in Adair county on October 11 ,1901 , her father was a doctor and delivered
her, her mother's name was Elizabeth Mcgaha and the father was Albert Allen
, well the story goes she died in childbirth and Elizabeth's mother swore he
had killed her. and Pearl was raised by Elizabeth , well no records of that,
then my grandmother Pearl worked as a
house keeper for the Redmon family in Adair and got pregnant. Luther left
and went to war or military, it probably was a scandal I am sure. I don't

Who was "Doc" Walker? I have a Kate Clyde Curtis (1894-1939), d/o Joseph
Underwood Curtis and Sally Emily Gentry of Monroe County, married James
Joseph Grant and after his death (1927) married a "Doc" Walker after 9
Apr 1930 (census). Per her death certificate she died in Adair County and
was in Columbia Cemetery, Adair County (interment listed on Find-A-Grave).
Her spouse was "Doc Walker" who was also the informant named on the death
certificate. What was Doc Walkers given name or given names? Also any

Am looking for any info on the McCaffree's from 1820 back. Particularly
Charles McCaffree who was born in Scotland and came over in the 1750's.He
had a son William who married a Mary Boyle in the 1790's. They had at
least 3 sons, James born abt 1800,Charles born 1816 and Issac born 1822,all
born in the Cumberland-Adair area. Charles Sr was thought to have fought in
the Indians Wars and the Revolution for 13 1/2 years.

I have encountered a brick wall in Adair County and her name is Margaret
Dooley who was born in 1818.
Margaret is the mother of 5 children but never married: Sarah A. b1835 who
married to a Sallie
Mary C. 1843-1924 who married to a Crawhorn; Elizabeth b1845; Angelina b1848
who became a ward of the state for "having lost her mind" James Milton
1854-1931 who was my great grand-father. Married Nancy Baker
and moved to Bartholomew, Indiana. In the 1850 census (Adair County, KY) she
is listed as being born in
Virginia. In the 1880 census (Taylor County, KY) she is listed as being born
in Kentucky and living with James Milton and Nancy. I assume she died before
the 1900 census. If there is any information out there--birth place
documentation, parents names, or even minor contextual details--I would love

I am looking for the parents or siblings of Fountain Thomas (1817-1885)
who spent the majority of his life and was buried in Spencer, Owen County,
Indiana. His headstone says he was born in Pulaski Co., Ky but
there is no mention of him there. I found an article in the Owen Co.
Journal about his life that says he was born in Adair County Kentucky in
1817, came to Monroe County Indiana in Jan. 1827. Returned to Greene
County Kentucky two years later (abt. 1829) and came to Owen County Indiana
two years after that (abt. 1831) where he found work, married, and spent his
remaining years. His name is fairly unique so I'm rather
surprised I'm having such troubles. Any help at all would be greatly

Looking for info on Joseph Burton and Mary Owens Burton. According to
the 1850 Census, they were living in a tavern/hotel with their seven
children. Joseph was possibly the tavern owner. At the 1850 Census, Joseph
was 57 and Mary was 36. One of their sons George (b 1839) was George Hector
Burton. He was a commander of the Sharpshooters of the Orphan Brigade. I am
trying to connect them to the rest of the Burtons in Adair Co. I descend
from William Leander Burton Through his son Thomas M and Louisa Bryant. Any

Seeking information on the family of William R. Smith , he and his wife
and children moved to Adair Co. between 1860-1870, from Scott Co. Tenn. They
are enumerated twice in 1870 and once in 1880 in the Gradyville
area, then most disappear after the 1880 census. According to birth records
for a couple of their children, Preston Smith in Wayne Co.Ky.1858 and
Rebecca J. Smith in Whitley Co., Ky. in 1855 the mother was Sarah Potter
(the wife of Wm. R.). children as of the 1870 census of Adair Co. Ky. were
Joel Smith, Louisa Smith, Rebecca J. Smith, George W. Smith, Preston Smith,
and John A.H. Smith. William R. Smith the father was born ca 1823-27 in
Whitley Co., Ky. and Sarah Potter Smith the mother was born ca 1828 in Knox

I am trying to find maiden name of the wife of John M. Darnell born Adair
County Feb 26, 1838 died Russell(?) County Mar 30, 1870. I think she may
have been Catherine Coffey but I have no record to prove that. They are
buried in the Coffey Farm Cemetery Russell County near Webb's Crossing. His
marker displays CO C 13TH KY INF. (Cival War Vet) Catherine lived in Webb's
Crossing until her death in 1919. Census records show a brother Larkin
Darnell lived with John And Catherine Darnell and that Larkin stayed with

looking for information about my 2nd great grand aunt, Letice/Lettice/Lettie
Ann Mayes who married George W. Atkins (from Adair Co.) in Taylor Co., KY on
September 2, 1862. Specifically, she and George had at least the two
daughters that I have read about. I don't have specifics, just that the
girls were likely born between 1884 and 1891, and would be THRILLED to find
out anything about children born to this couple. Additionally, Lettie
remarried in 1892 so I would like to know whether
George and Lettie divorced or if George died and left Lettie a widow. George
and Lettie appear in the 1870 and 1880 census reports for Adair Co. but
without children (Caroline, a 12 year old in the 1870 census, may have been
born to the couple but both George and Lettie appeared living with their

Hezekiah and Rose lived in Russell County and moved. Their daughter,
