The Adair County News, Wednesday, January 19, 1944 SERVICES TUESDAY FOR GEORGE COFFEY ___________ Member of Prominent Adair County Family Succumbs To Ill Health Sunday Morning. ___________ George Coffey, 68, died at 9 a.m. Sunday after having been in declining health for several years. Mr. Coffey was a son of the late Joseph and Jennie Page Coffey, both members of prominent Adair County families. He was a former Sheriff of Adair County, having served from 1918 to 1922 and at one time was Deputy Warden of the state Reformatory at Frankfort. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Smith Coffey; one son, Lewis Coffey; three daughters, Mrs. Robert Caldwell and Mrs. George Staples, Jr., and Mrs Mac Watts, of Memphis, Tenn; three grandsons and a granddaughter. Funeral services were held at 10:00 Thursday morning at Stotts & Cheatham Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. E.N. Perry and Rev. R.E. Reeves. Interment was in the City Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Messrs. W.E. Harris, C.R. Barger, Willard Staples, Everett Smith, Azro Hadley and O.A. Durham. |
